Thanks AC. Just to let you know that old messages I deleted long ago continue to be being dumped in my profile messaging inbox. I am eliminating them fast as I can and they keep coming. A new batch showed up this a.m. so I am thinking we are still dealing with some stability issues in the Forum site.

Appreciate how hard you are trying, but am personally worried about the safety of the site itself.

ETA It works!!! Thank you AC for fixing this and no spam this morning.

Tested my ability to post in many places yesterday and overnight.
It seems to be working, at least for me.

Hoping others who have had trouble can find their way back.

I found that some threads are no longer automatically set to the "Newest first" and you have to reset that thread.

Now certain folks are having difficulty posting and or logging in. Geaton cannot post in Safari or Chrome, she gets automatically logged out when trying to post a comment. Alva is locked out but was able to post about it earlier:

Congratulations to AgingCare for getting rid of those ding dang spam bots that were as persistent as they were annoying! I can only imagine how complicated the situation was to sort out.

Thanks to all! 🙏

Hi all,

We want to let you know that our tech team has deployed a fix to counteract the spam activity in the forum. We’re also investigating ways to strengthen our filters and stop spam from being posted in the first place. Thank you for your patience!

We’re committed to keeping this forum safe, supportive, and easy to use. We truly appreciate you sticking with us as we work through these improvements.

AC mods, a new day & its 10AM and the bots are back. So far 20+ in the questions forum AND NOW they have found “discussions” forum! There are pages and pages of scam bot posts there as well.

This forum is part of AP4M. They are going to get into that and all it’s data. You have got to do something about this. For me this is becoming way too bothersome, compromised and flat out spooky to stay active in this forum. I’m sure others feel the same.

PLEASE Aging Care fix this ongoing problem or at least let us all know what the heck is going on and what you guys are doing to at least try and fix it.
I keep trying to be hopeful that this is the day that things will be different, but nope here we go again with the annoying hacks.
My patience now is wearing beyond thin.

My question, after going through 10 pages of spam and no new questions that make any sense whatever is this:
IS THERE A WAY for our admins to have oversite BEFORE A QUESTION IS POSTED to the AC site.
I must agree that this level of attack will wear out even the most persistent regulars.

IF there is no way to stop this particular "bug"-- and clear IPs isn't the answer as each post comes from another name--the basically this site is not going to survive.

I hope that AC will update us on this every few days.
I'm close to taking off a few weeks, myself.

I am curious if this is ransom-ware of some type. If so, AC may be done with. I doubt they would pay 100s of 1,000s to keep this site alive.

AC mods, at 8:30AM CDT today, there has been over 100 scam questions - aka bot phishing - posts out of Indonesia in the past 9 hours. Over 100 overnight.! This happening today after 3 different weekends of scam posts. All - based on languages and references to Toyo - coming out Indonesia.

Whatever you are doing is not in any way shape or form solving the problem. I’m guessing all that being done is removal of the post and a block on the poster. That is useless for this type of bot attack.

Please pls pls do what Goddatter has posted. Do a country block. It’s a pretty straightforward action. It’s kinda viewed as a nuclear option but in the years Ive been on this site never ever a post out of that country. Really if you are in Bali you are on vacay ensconced in a Villa, or having monkeys stealing your sunglasses Ubud or diving in Gili…. you are so not on this forum. Get a webmaster to block Indo, all its islands.

If don’t get ahead of this, there will be zero traffic to this site from real folks. AC is part of AP4M, theres a lot of financial info held there that eventually will have an overlap for bot entry.

Your firewall should be able to block by IP, either very specifically, or by a range of nearby addresses. Likewise, a country-wide or regional block should be possible. How much valuable traffic do you get from the area/country spamming the site? Block them.

Likewise your forum posting software and settings should have the function to block, or send to admin approval, posts with certain keywords you can define or alter as needed. The spam posts I’ve been seeing certainly have repeated the same set of words.

(Yes, I was a longtime webmaster and web developer.)

Aging Care, if you haven't figured out by now how very annoying and irritating it is to go on this forum EVERY morning and see nothing but the spam posts then you're not paying very close attention.
Like I had mentioned before, perhaps it best that you guys just shut this forum down for a few days until you can get this nonsense figured out once and for all.
Because if something isn't done soon you will be losing a lot of your daily contributors and it will be all your fault.
I don't think that it's just me that is losing their patience with this ongoing issue.

A Place For Mom..pass.

Obviously the Tech Team doesn't know how to fix the spam situation today there is at least 2 pages of them. Might be time to hire a new team.

This is not the page I signed up for some 10 years ago, the entire mindset has changed.

I am more or less with Geaton on the need for Articles in this age of the internet. I haven't really referred people to our articles so much as I refer them to our responses; for instance we get some questions at least weekly: "what is the best incontinent wear" as a for-instance. I always tell folks to move up the the search bar and type in that question and get the many answers already in responses to that common question. It saves me time and gives them access to so many responses.

Hope you can get it fixed Very Soon, before there is nothing left of this wonderful sight.

Oh yes, place for mom, my vote is NO.

One thing that is no longer a part of AgingCare is the articles, all you have to do is look at the comments and it's plain that most of them are at least a decade old, and several are much older than that. I get that the basic info is still relevant but I'm sure there have been new developments in the world of caregiving and dementia that might be of interest to caregivers.

When I was looking for somewhere online to share my caregiving woes and get support, I found Aging Care. If it had been named "A Place for Mom" I wouldn't have given it a second look. Over the more than 10 years I have been here, it is meeting the needs of many caregivers. The links at the bottom of the page provide information and contact regarding resources.

I understand that a business has to continually look for new ways to market what they have to sell. Not sure at all that a name change as suggested would do that. I think it would be less attractive to people.

Many thanks for your good work deleting the recent spam. It happens these days regardless.

I hate The Name A Place For Mom, it’s sexisr. What about Dad? And it sounds like you want to get rid of someone because there is no place for them in your life.

I always have hated that name, ever since Joan Lunden from GMA started hawking this business in the 1980s. I would never have gone on this forum if is what it was called.

Also changing the name makes this forum sound like it is a shill for institutional care. Huge conflict of interest. People here have various opinions on the subject, and there is no right way to go about caring for an aging LO. I’ve gained a huge perspective on this subject over the years I’ve been on this forum.

I didn’t get the survey, AC but this is my 2 cents.

And you’re welcome.

Thanks for listening, AC! This a.m. the site is clear; nice not having to wade through the scammers to get to the questions.
I love the Forum, and have for years, but would love to know there is someone reading daily the new questions. There aren't all that many, and it would so clear the decks of some things that are clearly just junk. When the silly stuff is just too silly it makes the regulars believe there's no shepherd on this flock.

As to that survey?
Please don't change the name to A Place for Mom.
People everywhere are familiar with APFM. And we often mention it when recommending it to others. We usually say why we recommend it, when we don't, and why. I think APFM already does benefit from those times we recommend such a service. But I think that the public in general, having a Forum NAMED APFM, would be more suspicious of any advice, thinking that all replying to their questions were merely shills for the service. I think it would make the public in general LESS likely to reach out to you or to respect our advice, not MORE likely. But that's just me...................

I hope AC continues to thrive; I hope there's more oversight in general. Again, thanks.

I think the fact that Alaska Airlines was completely grounded yesterday for about three hours due to hackers, we can understand that this is a serious problem, and one getting worse. Sorry this is such a persistent hack and it is now 7/21 with AC already in cleaning up the floors from constant posts.

I too hope that the site can be saved, but looks like this is pretty serious.

I am not coming here anymore until the spam issue is resolved, this is ridiculous, this site is way beyond the times from a functional standpoint. No reply button on posts that are replies, no report button on spam/scam posts and so much more.

If need be hire someone to get this straightened out.

As this spam/hack issue seems to be getting worse, perhaps it may be best that Aging Care shuts down this forum completely until this issue is resolved, as it has now gotten WAY beyond annoying and making me personally not want to come here anymore.

I am hoping you are wrong, and suspecting you are correct.
Recently we were sent a questionnaire by APFM asking if it would make a difference to us if the Forum was named A Place For Mom.
Don't know about for us, but would for the trust of the public at large, and I think would spell doom for what has been such a great source for information.

I don't at all resent APFM advertising and using the Forum, and I think they don't weigh in overmuch for themselves. BUT if it becomes merely an arm of a for profit business it will lose the trust of many, I fear, no matter we try to answer questions.
