Just reporting, no questions. Took my mom to the gerontologist today that we have been waiting months to see. Now I see why his initial consults are so sparse, he was wonderful. His medical assistant was wonderful, the desk staff were wonderful. No paperwork, they did the medical history verbally.
He really took time getting to know my mother, her history, her physical condition and current challenges and absorbed it all quickly. Gave advice on medications, reviewed her most recent bloodwork, read and explained the CT scans of her lungs, (we had no idea radiation from her cancer treatment caused scarring, no one ever mentioned thus) did a memory test (the clock test etc.). He was empathetic while being forthright, echoed things her psych NP has been saying, really made us feel like we are taking all the right steps.
The best part is he is affiliated with and located in hospital that we would go to if needed so he can be on the team along with any hospitalist.
Now I just keep hoping her PCP retires so this guy can be her (and my dad's) PCP too! It gave her a real lift mentally to be listened to and not rushed. He also actually sent a script to increase her prevacid dose on the spot. No waiting for the old school doc to give his desk person a piece of paper that may or may not get entered by the end of the day..
Does it change the daily problems, no, but it feels like a miracle and is so relieving just to have more clarity and to know we have someone now that we can look to for guidance on these things whatever those may be. 🙏🙏🙏
Wishing all a peaceful holiday.
Thankful for this group it's like having a diary that talks back 😊
What a marvelous update from your last message.
Casole, please ask if this cannot be her primary doctor now. I think that this person CAN BE. You shouldn't have to return to the PCP.
Please check on that after the holidays.
I am so happy for you and your mom.
