Ouch, gershun. I did that at work a number of years ago. R.I.C.E helped for the first hours then by evening I felt better when I got up and walked a little around the house. My boss had sent me home for that day and the next, but the next day I decided to go to work as sitting around with it elevated wasn't helping any more, I think the walking improved the circulation - not doing a marathon or anything just getting from one place to another.

Not saying it would be the same for you you have to go with how you are feeling,

Minor to what you did I dropped something heavy on one toe last week which swelled and bruised nicely then a couple of days later stubbed my little toe on the other foot. They are getting better. Good excuse to sit with my feet up and get some reading done. lol

Yes Golden, although I never need an excuse to put my feet up and read but now I have one. :)

It's pretty swollen right now. I doubt I could put a shoe on and go for a walk right now. It's the upper part of my left foot on the top and side.

Anyway, I'll just limp along and see how it looks and feels in the am.

Let us know how you are tomorrow. No walking so soon for sure!! Prayers for healing.

Gershun, I highly recommend a product called Dit Da Jow, it is sold as an antiseptic but, it is used by martial artists to heal sprains, bruising and pain from practice.

It is amazing stuff. We buy ours from a local dojo. I would call around and see if you can get it around you. They might even just apply some for you to try.

I hope you feel better quickly.

Just a heads up, elevating a foot injury can cause blood clots. Please be careful.

Gershun, maybe some Biofreeze? You must have some sore muscles, maybe muscles you didn't know you had? Ice should reduce the swelling, compresses? Is there a nurseline you can call?

Ah, I love my friends on here! You warm my heart.

I didn't know that about blood clots Real. Although I was thinking about that looking at my foot and seeing edema.

Thx, Real and Glad for your recommendations but I can't get out to pick anything up right now. I'll keep an eye on it carefully.

Thx for caring you guys!

Gershun: I hope that you recover quickly. May want to see your PCP, but definitely avoid the ER. You may want to see if your primary care has an 'Ask a Nurse' phone number. And perchance you could get delivery for anything you may need to recover.

So I phoned an ask a nurse number, described my injury and she said that I should see someone asap. So I risked going to emergency. I took a cab.

To make a long story short. I broke two toes. My baby toe and the one beside it. I've got crutches and need to see an orthopedic surgeon. Oh joy, oh bliss.

Here I thought the doc was going to come around the corner with a you've wasted our time look on his face. Instead he said "What'd you do?" He was really nice. Asked me if I'd had dinner yet. Said he could bring me a sandwich. I felt old though. You know how old people get treated. That's how I felt. Sigh.....

Anyway, it wasn't that busy there, all things considered. I was masked. Hopefully I didn't catch anything that's going around.

Gershun - so glad you were diagnosed and well looked after - even the sandwich! Heal fast. Hope you don't need any surgery.

Gershun,
Hydrate!
So glad you went to E.R., because you are going to need the crutches.
Put a large water bottle by your bed.
And a small trash can in case you won't make it in time, even with the crutches.

Take your phone with you to the kitchen and bathroom, even so, do not have anything in your hands when using the crutches.

You will get through this.

Thx everyone.

Glad, you were right. I am very sore today. Not just my foot, but everywhere. I'm not very good with the crutches either. I've never had to use crutches before.

I've got an appt. with an orthopedic doc for the 22nd. I'm surprised they didn't wrap my toes or anything like that in the E R. Ah well..........

Meanwhile, I'll hydrate like you said Send. And read a lot I suppose. It's a beautiful day here today. I wish I could go for a walk cause this time of year these days are few and far between.

I was on crutches when I broke my ankle (bad break, needed surgery) and was ticked when told another six weeks after the cast came off.... I got that I hated those things!! Extra padding for the pits and hand grips is a must if you are actually supposed to be non weight bearing.

Santa is coming to my town tonight, the parade starts at 6:00. I just don't get the appeal of these evening parades, IMO it's much too early to eat before and too late to come home and start cooking after.

The nurse gave me a cursory demonstration of how to use crutches. I felt like such an idiot as I meandered my way through the vast sea of people in the E R waiting area. You know that seven mile stare people get when they're waiting in the E R. I guess I was a distraction. "Hey, look at that broad trying to use her crutches" LOL

Parades? Never saw the appeal. Even daytime ones.

I think it's a small town thing Gershun, there's not a whole lost else going on to kick off the holiday season and the people on the street (and in the parade) are probably your neighbours. Back when the parade was on a Saturday it used to bring people into the downtown shops too but I kinda doubt they're getting much business from these evening parades.

If you ever want to see a hilarious skit about small town parades look up This Hour has Twenty-Two minutes Christmas special. The whole episode was good but the part about the parade was priceless. I think it aired 2012.

Gershun: I am glad that the "Ask a Nurse" could help you and that you did seek treatment. Sandwiches at the ER are always welcomed by me.

Thx Llama, I didn't take the offer of the sandwich but it was nice of him to ask.

I got there at 9pm. and was home by 11:30. A record for me for emergency room visits. The only other times apart from visits for my mom which were numerous and too many to keep track of were when I used to have panic attacks and the wait time then was sometimes six to seven hours.

Only day two and I'm already having broken toes fatigue.

Hello, haven't been here for sometime, been really busy just being a caregiver and keeping everything going forward. Husband is feeling better but still is very weak and he really doesn't want to do anything to help himself. We have been struggling also with memory loss and his anger. Everything I say is wrong, everything I do is wrong. He would never admit that maybe he forgot, no it's me that didn't tell him. It's me that made the mistake. Even though I do understand what is happening, it's so darn hard to hear all the time that you are the one that is wrong, you are the one that made the mistake, you are the one that never gets it right.

We were struggling with our marriage before this all happened so I imagine that doesn't help matters. I will never leave him and he can count on me to be there but sometimes I just have to wonder when are my feelings going to matter, when can I have someone say something nice to me.

Guess I am done with my feeling sorry for myself for now. Thank you for hearing me. I just needed someone to listen to me today,

Who says we get too old to change? My DH went shopping yesterday, and came home with the air of a victorious battler against enormous odds. He had just bought his first ever cauliflower in 71 years! He eats it anyway, just under protest.
