My daughter lives in Denver so he lives too far away.
He loves playing in the snow!
Is a family gathering worth all the worry that comes afterward? My OCD would be overdrive afterwards.
My sig-other's grown daughter and her two teen children wanted to come for Christmas. We nipped that in the bud real quickly. There is always next summer for a visit and when everyone in the family had their shots.
Me too! I would love to hug him. At least my daughter sends me photos.
She sent me a video of him trying to catch snow on his tongue. So cute.
She said she fell in love with him as soon as she met him on Zoom.
The shelters aren’t open due to COVID. So they do Zoom meetings. His owners surrendered him because he chased a rabbit and ate him and became sick. He was throwing up and had diarrhea.
Huskies have a strong prey drive. The shelter gave him medicine and he’s doing fine now.
He was living at the shelter for a couple of weeks until my daughter adopted him.
She said he hadn’t received his shots or had been neutered. He’s 11 months old. So, the shelter got him up to date on his shots and neutered him.
No telling what his back story is. The owner told the shelter they did not want to pay the vet bills. Maybe they lost their job due to COVID, who knows?
He seems to be very happy with my daughter. She says he’s well behaved but pulls on his leash a bit. She’s in the process of training him to behave while on the leash.
Huskies are pretty dogs. She says he’s really smart. She bought him toys and a comfy bed.
I hope we get to visit with my daughter after my husband is finished with his cancer treatments and it’s safer to travel concerning COVID.
Even though you don't get to see him in person yet, at least your daughter sends you photos and videos - the second next best thing to being there!
I tend to agree that the owners may not have been able to afford a vet visit/bill after he ate the rabbit and getting sick. I wonder how long they had him because maybe they didn't know this about the breed and thought if it could happen once, it might keep happening.

I'm glad he didn't have to wait too long at the shelter before your daughter found him and decided to adopt him. I always feel bad for the dogs who are passed over time and time again. There was one at our local humane society that had been overlooked for a year. If I recall, finally someone adopted him or her!!
I think his pulling on the leash is part of his still being considered a puppy and being very happy in his new home with your daughter and just plain old getting out. I've heard small dogs are considered puppies for one year and larger dogs, two years. He's definitely in his element, weather and all.
He sounds very happy and well behaved. Now he has everything he needs - a loving owner, plenty of toys, a comfy bed and of course food and shelter.
Their eyes are like an icy blue - very unique for dogs.

I feel sorry for the dogs at the shelters too.
My daughter rescued a poodle last time she had a dog. She loved that dog.
He had Cushing’s disease. He wasn’t responding well to the meds and was starting to suffer and the vet said it was time to put him down.
My daughter grieved for him terribly. She had him all through college.
The vet said he was around 5 or 6 years old when she got him from the shelter.
He had been abused. His little hip was broken. My daughter spoiled him! He was a cutie. He loved her.
We had a schnauzer for our oldest daughter. She was cute little pooch but stubborn as can be! LOL
The youngest daughter picked a greyhound for her pet.
The grey absolutely stole my heart! He was the ‘fawn’ color and looked like a small deer.
Greyhounds make great pets!
I'm glad your daughter rescued a poodle but, how sad that he ended up with Cushing's disease and didn't respond well to the medication. I've never had to put a pet down but, even the mere thought upsets me and I'm sure it was extremely difficult to do but, I know we don't want to see them suffer just because we don't want to be without them and suffer the pain of losing them. How sad that he had been abused and having a broken hip because of it. I'm so glad he ended up having a great life once your daughter adopted him!! Those are the kinds of stories I like - happy, happy endings!
I don't know much about the Schnauzer's but, I take it being stubborn is one of their traits.
I don't see people with greyhounds as pets very often. I would imagine they'd need a huge backyard. But, they are sweet looking - I've never seen a "fawn" colored one. I love deer so I bet he was adorable. I'll have to google images as I'm sure they'll have one. I always felt sorry that they were used for racing but, that's just me.
My grey came from a track in Florida. I was absolutely thrilled when Florida closed their tracks.
I hope they found homes for the dogs.
We adopted ours through Greyhound Pets of America.
I did volunteer work with them. We brought our dogs to ‘meet and greets’ so the public could get to see them and how sweet they are.
They are sprinters. They are not long distance runners so we had to explain that to joggers who thought they would make good running pals.
My grey was a champion. He was super fast. He did sprint in my backyard. We took him often to the dog park.
I bet you were thrilled when you learned Florida closed their tracks. I actually wonder if there are many or any tracks still open. Kind of like when they started closing down pet stores due to the problems coming from puppy mills.
That's good that through volunteering with "Greyhound Pets of America" that you were able to educate people as to what type of environment they need to be in and that they are not meant for jogging long distance but, instead are sprinters. They seem to have a gentleness about them probably because they look dainty to me. And what dog doesn't love going to the dog parks! I think a lot of people don't think about researching a breed before they get them and that's where problems arise. All dogs are not created equal that's for sure.
We originally tried to get our dog through a shelter but unfortunately ended up buying our doxie from a pet store back in 2007 and she put a good show on for us (she was 4 months old at the time) - no one wanted her. We had her in the room where they let you visit with them and she had a little accident which was part of her sickness. She had kennel cough too, so we told them to take her out of the cage where she was with two other puppies (different breeds) and put her in a separate cage in the back. They said she barked the entire night. It took us 5 months to get her well. She had the highest level of Giardia, a parasite that transfers to both other dogs and humans. We had to wear gloves, kill our lawn because of the bleach we had to spray it with every time she went potty and had to wipe her behind every time she went along with cleaning her crate since we did crate training for the first time. She liked it in there. My husband ended up writing to the company who owned the Pet Store chain - we ended up getting some compensation back but, it was like pulling teeth.

I didn’t realize it took that long to cure kennel cough. Is that common?
I have heard that some dogs get that while they are boarding at certain places when people go on longer vacations.
All dogs deserve a good home.
Thank you - right now she has a growth right on the upper eyelid that is in a bad place so we aren't going to get it removed. I have an antibiotic ointment that I put on it when her eye is irritated and I've been giving her a Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement to help with her back and hips. Just having a hard time adjusting to her new behaviors from being deaf now.
We thought she was a mini when we bought her but, she's actually a tweenie (between a mini and standard doxie). She looks like the one lealonnie uses in her avatar.
I love animals and I wish they all had loving homes - like you said they all deserve it!
Actually, it wasn't the kennel cough that made her extremely sick for the first 9 months of her life. She probably got over that in a couple weeks. It was the Giardia parasite which is why we had to do all those things to help get rid of it as well as the vet giving her high doses of medication.
My husband is really good at taking care of that type of thing so between the two of us we were able to nurse her back to good health in 5 months. It must have been a great day for her when she felt good! Her picture at 4 months while adorable had a sadness in her eyes as she tilted her head to look at the camera. She's been a happy dog ever since!
Oh, I see. You and your husband are on top of things. Animals have all kinds of health issues.
Thank God for good vetnerians to treat our fur babies.

My cousin that I loved so much had a wonderful sense of humor and truly a man ahead of his time in many ways.
He lived well into his 90’s but put on his tombstone, “See, I told you that I was sick!”
His 90th birthday party was so much fun.
He married and had six children. His wife died.
He remarried a widow who had four children and together they had two children.
So, they had a ‘Yours, Mine and Ours’ situation.
They were all at the party. I have a bazillion cousins.
In my case, I would like “she seized the day”.
Does your niece use the expression, ‘adulting’? My youngest daughter uses that word and I have to laugh 😂 because it sounds stupid to me! LOL
My kids tell me that I am out of the loop. Maybe I am! English is a living language that is always changing.
So now I am making dog bandanas. They are so cute!
I made a couple for my daughter’s new pooch.
I don’t know if my oldest daughter wants bandanas for her kitties!
They sew up quickly. I might make a few bow ties for him too! I found a pattern online.
