Something about nothing but little things please little minds. Went shopping at Aldi and thoroughly aprove of their policy of locking their carts up till you push in a quarter. This time there was one abandomed in the parking lot keeping it's quarter. I almost went and got it to retrieve the quater but decided it was not worth the effort, I am not that desperate and what can you buy for a quarter anyway?
Then I thought that if I added 3 more quarters I would have $1. Surely you can't buy much if anything for $1 these days.
So I went looking in the grocery store. a loaf of generic white bread, an apple or orange, 2 pounds of bananas, hot dogs, a head of lettuce,a couple of medium tomatoes, cans of fruit or veg, a frozen chicken pot pie, a pound of frozen veg a greek yogurt, and occasionally a whole pineapple. Have to add a dozen eggs.
Now I need to rest my few remaining brain cells

Book, Monday was a Federal holiday here - President's Day - so no mail, no banks, no govt. offices. However, I was surprised when I was doing some research into some missing commission payments for a travel agent client of mine that even the accounting departments in major hotels and resorts were closed! Spent 2 hours making calls only to have to follow up again today.

On Monday, all of our banks were closed, and the gov't offices were opened. I even saw the US Postman delivering mail in our office box!

Was very odd that all the banks here were open today, only gov offices and post office closed.

Family Day here too, but no shopping because most malls are closed, as well as beer and liquor stores, grocery stores, etc. The municipality plans "family" events, but only if you have little kids - face painting, skating, snowshoeing, sliding down the snow "mountain" built by the road crew. The Legion did open their doors for a couple of hours for darts and billiard for us older folks. I think most of us don't really know what we're supposed to do on Family Day cause we've only had it for 10 years or so, it doesn't seem natural to have a holiday in Feb.

Our holiday was last Monday. They call it Family Day here. But I've heard they are going to make ours coincide with the rest of Canada. I don't know why they don't just call it going to the mall and shopping till you drop day instead cause that's where everyone seems to gather.

It is a holiday here today too Send, although it is a provincial holiday so it isn't everywhere - some places have a different day off - and it also goes by different names depending on which province you live in.

Happy President's Day!
CWillie, today is a holiday in the U.S., celebrating PAST presidents.

Tidbits:
President's Day never falls on the actual birthday of any American president. Four chief executives—George Washington, William Henry Harrison, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan-were born in February, but their birthdays all come either too early or too late to coincide with Presidents’ Day, which is always celebrated on the third Monday of the month of February.

Cwillie, now you have me soooo curious! Are you able to rewrite what you posted and put it on a private message to me? It's like being with close friends and learning that someone has a juicy gossip but .. we have to 'whisper' it. =)

Don't feel badly, cwillie
I had a do nothing day, and if not for going to hoca to help put mom to bed, I wouldn't have gotten out of my nightie

I did enjoy some of the Olympics - especially Norway winning gold in the men's relay

You guys are funny; and absolutely right about small towns, cwillie. We've lived here 21 years (because my husband built this house, so he won't leave), and I've gained 80 lbs in the last 17. I weighed 120 lbs till I was 50, now up over 200; nothing to do here but eat, wherever you go. I bet there's food at our hardware store.....

On the internet, I found this list:
Healthy Brain Foods
(None of these are sold at the hardware store.)
Avocados
Beets
Dark Chocolate
Blueberries
Bone Broth
Broccoli
Celery
Coconut Oil
Eggs Yolks
Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

I can make a blueberry smoothie because our organic blueberries from t.j's are frozen.

I did, however, buy a magnet tool at the hardware store, so if there is any metal like, in the salad,
I can find it and take it out.

What did you find CDN?

Sorry guys to hear about deleted posts and rearranged words. I haven't been paying close attention, but I will try starting now.

Quiet Sunday for me too. Cwille, I hear you. Some days it feels like time is moving more slowly and others it just goes by lightning fast. I'm also puttering a bit in front of the computer today. I thought about watching the Olympics, but it makes me a bit sad because my father enjoyed watching sports so much that even having the Olympics on in the background makes me emotional.

Hi Send, I hope you find something good to eat!:-) Speaking of which, I need to look in the fridge and have a late lunch.

Poor Cwillie!
In between posting here I went outside and watered the plants. Not bragging, just want to explain that I haven't eaten yet!

Can you say what exactly did you buy at the hardware store for Mom to eat?

The only things to do in a small town involve food, either shopping for it or eating it I'm supposed to be cutting back on unhealthy food. I went to the hardware store, fed mom her lunch and have been sitting online all day doing absolutely nothing worthwhile. About an hour ago I checked the time to see if I could get ready for bed - nope, it was only a little after 3:00 in the afternoon. OMG I need a life.

Luckylu,
That is putting the cart before the horse, rearranging your words like that! Maybe they did delete part of it.
I know that I have been so distracted lately, I would not remember what was deleted.

Cwillie,
Your words that were deleted were not any of the following, were they? :
blessings, joy, misquotes from the bible, more blessings, happy happy happy, joy, blessings.

I got up this morning and decided I'd better go to church since the weather is fine and I have no excuse not to, but when I checked the facebook page (do you know how annoying it is to try to use facebook when you aren't a member?) I discovered the pastor is away. Well, all dressed up and no place to go.

Ah, the mods have been a work deleting things... well, it really belonged on the whine thread anyway. SMH.
