Find Care & Housing
I just got off the phone with my sister. Conversations with her are basically me grunting occasionally while she prattles on and on and on and on about her work - the details of the job itself, her co-workers, her co-workers families, her residents (she works in a retirement community), her resident's families.... (yawn). Somewhere in the midst of all that there "might" be a nugget of information about our family or someone I actually know and give a d*** about, but I tend to zone out and miss it.

I just discovered a new online comic. I never knew that comics can have music! Each page has a lovely piano playing in the background. The 1st page was heart-touching (piano music helped reach the emotions within.) I'm on the 3rd page. I was surprised that piano music can actually portray nostalgia (just like the comic page where the person is reflecting the past.)

I'm savoring each page. Even backspacing 1 page, then hit the Next page button so that I can listen to the piano music again. I'm going to FB later on and Tag that comic. I have a feeling by the time I'm done reading this comic, I will have a deeper appreciation to piano music.

Oh, just google: Siren's Lament (found in WebToon).

My sig other answer the phone and on the other end was a telemarketer who asked "is the Man of the house at home?" to which sig other answered "no, she isn't here right now" :P Well, it got the telemarketer to hang up.

I tried Prime, but am doing better without; just have to make sure my order is over $25 with Amazon items to get free shipping. Just ordered a nice, HEAVY tailgater with microphone for singing and there was no shipping - yeaaa! Nice to get this stuff delivered to our door; also good deals on stuff like Zinger teas (those with hibiscus for elevated BP), 2 lb jars of raw, unfiltered honey for $10 - stuff like that. We live 60 miles from a city, so it helps a lot.

I like Prime and Prime Pantry. I can order things that I can't purchase locally.

I was just contemplating whether or not my Prime membership is worth the $100 per year. I think so, though. I get good value from being able to order darn near ANYTHING online and not have to set time aside to go to a special store and hunt down something I need.

I recently decided to splurge some and buy some things to put the apartment together. I was in the market for a smart tv so I read reviews, did comparison shopping, and ended up getting a very nice tv for $300 delivered right to my door. That's where Amazon, and the Amazon Prime service, really excel for me. I used to watch the free movies but haven't don't that lately. I know they offer free books and music, too. So if you take advantage of those extras, it's a nice deal.

I use it primarily for the very REAL CONVENIENCE of being able to get good products delivered to me. It probably saves me more time than money, but that time is invaluable imo.

I'm not a Amazon Prime subscriber. FYI, for those doing the monthly sub the rate will be going up after 18Feb. From $10.99 to $12.99. I did the calculation. That's $155.88 a year if you do the monthly sub. Best to do the annual subscription which is still under $100.00.

No, they won't. Mango trees are one of their favorite 'homes'. Oldest bro thru our local healer was able to rid the scary one. Everyone sensitive to spirits felt the difference. No more eyes watching you. No more hearing a family member's voice calling out to you. I can now go on the porch without feeling scared... Face mask sounds good to filter the smell...thanks.

Book can you wear a good mask with filters like a gas mask. I know it wiould be hot and uncomfortable but might be the lesser of two evils. maybe if you asked nicely the spirits would kill the tree for you.

I woke up this morning and checked the porch and front area. Oh, no! Our large mango tree right in front of the house is blossoming! I'm allergic to mango. Just smelling the blossoms will trigger weeks of full flu-like symptoms including deep coughing, runny nose. My doctor 's solution at time was shutter the windows and use air conditioning. We don't have an air con in living room. Something in my bedroom causes headaches... I can't stand that strong mango smell. I will need to tell sis to keep the livingroom door closed.

cwillie -in England, walking down a residential street, sometimes I could smell a blooming rose bush before I could see it, and with no wind. As you say, the scent carried on the warm humid air.

That being said,

book - I have experienced odd smells at times where they should not be, and wondered about their significance. What you see is not necessarily all of what you get.

It's surprising how far scent can travel on a calm night, especially a warm humid night.

Glad, even if it's blooming, we don't have a tree nearby. Our land is large. None of us are into gardens. Across from us - is an empty lot. On the right, is my dad's property and beside that is a warehouse parking lot for their trucks. On the left is the low income apartments. There is no plumeria trees around. .. Yes, very creepy. Very unusual. There is no way the scent of plumeria will continue to grow strong right there on the porch and to permeate into the house. There's no wind. By the time I go to sleep tonight, I would have found a very logical explanation for this. Because I am sleeping in the livingroom, where the livingroom door is just 4 feet from my sofa bed. Anyway, it's time to hit the sack.

It's 9:30pm. I have the front living room door opened with the security screen locked. A floral scent started permeating through the windows/door. I assumed oldest sis switched to a different brand of cigarettes. At first, the floral scent was nice. But the stronger it got, my head started hurting. I even sneezed so hard. I ignored it since usually sis' cigarette smell will eventually taper off. But it was getting so very strong. I got up and opened the screen door. Oops.. sis is Not outside smoking. I breathed in deeply. Eew! That floral smell is so very strong and thick!

Have any of you ever wore a Hawaiian lei made of real plumeria? I have in Hawaii and here on island. That's what I'm smelling - plumeria. But we don't have a plumeria tree, nor rose bushes or orchids, etc... I had to close the wood door. I wonder where that floral smell is coming from?... And the thoughts (based on my native upbringing) popped into my head that I'm being visited by deceased dad... or by one of my ancient ancestors who is not happy with me for perhaps playing a terrible music loudly on the radio? (We're not suppose to play, make loud noises at nights. We are disturbing the dead.) I'm going to change the channel back to my usual talk show radio (US mainland's big coin, diving, right-left wing, etc...)

The outbreak protocols at this facility are totally different than in the first nursing home mom was in, in fact other than a sign on the door there is no evidence of anything different going on at all. I haven't seen the nurse who called, and I kind of wonder if anyone would say anything if I just showed up for lunch and sat down beside mom. On the other hand I think it is just as well if I keep her in her room and away from the crowd until supper time.

Your visits are not pointless
Unless it is a burden to you then continue as you are able

I found it very hard to stay in mom's room when she was in isolation too,
but sometimes the thought of doing something is more difficult than the actual doing

If you wear a mask 😷 can you help in the lounge ?
(1)
Report

Cwillie,
Your presence is required.
Imagine all of us sitting there with you, some are praying.

No actual data on this, but I feel we are present to escort the sick through their final days, an act of loving kindness if we are willing.

If you are too uncomfortable, you can decide to visit less or not stay too long without guilt.

Maybe have your sister meet you there sometimes, go to lunch after the visit?

You are a shining example of a loving daughter. We're you an endurance runner in a marathon?

CW,
So sad. You are kinda to the point of offering short periods of comfort and visiting to make sure Mom is being looked after properly?

You are a good and devoted daughter. I am sure your Mom would be very proud of you.

Due to the flu at the nursing home I've been told I'm restricted to visiting in mom's room so I haven't been able to help out in the dining room, how that stops the spread of germs is beyond me since I'm not sick and everyone not under quarantine who hasn't any visitors is crowded together in the lounge as usual. Anyway, generally visits now consist of me prattling on about the weather and any "news" I can think of - which takes no more than 10 minutes - and then sitting holding mom's hand while she drifts off to sleep. Sometimes I take a book. It's amazing how quickly the change in routine has influenced my desire to visit, I found it difficult enough before but now it just seems especially pointless.

I can't eat sashimi. I take one look at it and think raw meat.

A while back, a woman who went to a chiropractor for a neck manipulation for a pinched nerve on her neck. She came home in a lot of pain. She suffered a stroke and she died. It seems when the chiropractor shifted her neck, it tore her left vertebral artery. Maybe having a massage is safer?

Sushi was on the news, but I thought it was fake.
A man had a 5' tapeworm come out, he ate sushi daily, but not sure that is the kind of worm fish have, mostly in the summer. About 3 weeks ago, I think it was reported.

Golden,
I have heard that one can have a stroke being placed in the neck insert in the
sink when getting your hair washed at the hairdresser.
Also, a chiropractic adjustment can cause a stroke.
A broken neck is also very scary.

Because of these reports, I had asked my chiropractor about a stroke.
Deciding the alternative was worse: Complete bedridden immobility, causing blood clots, unable to walk or sleep without acute pain, and the necessity to take many pain meds that had adverse effects, etc.
I opted for the risks of chiropractic for myself.

I do not eat Sushi.
