CWillie,
The slow to load had me fooled, because the forum opened up fine.
However, the navigation from one question to the next, from here to over there is very slow.

On a funny note.

Today we took our cat to the vet. I thought I'd put my mask in my front pocket of my jeans but when I went to put it on it wasn't there. Hmmm? l searched all my pockets. Looked inside the car and around our place when we got home. No mask.

So I'm using the washroom. I turned around to wipe myself and I see something black floating in the toilet. Yep, my mask. It must have been on me somewhere and when I went to pee it fell in. So I peed on my mask today. Take that, stupid covid mask. :)

My 2 BFFs planned a 2 day trip to my river house for me, hubs was designated boat driver and cook. Things went south when one had to bring her 3 YO granddaughter along,, and it was raining on the morning we left. But as hubs said,, just roll with it! It was actually alot of fun. GD was well behaved, puppers survived although she was a bit stressed by the loud noises, and we kept it low key! hot dogs and bought fried chicken.. lots of GD loving the puppies pool ( puppy hates the pool) and GD loving hubs "fishing" for her.. she wanted to pet all the fish! And the weather turned out to beautiful after lunch on the first day. So I learned I need to just relax and let it go!

Thinking about the caregivers out there, hoping everyone is getting their rest, plenty of showers, and some good food, keeping cool in the summer heat, or warm in the storms.

Check in here if you like-it can be a lonely journey without someone to talk to.

I used to go to the Reading Terminal Market in Philly. Before it became more of a tourist destination. Although, if you have the inclination and time, it's worth a visit.
There was a time when it was so run down, I'd have to walk around the puddles of water on the floor, as the roof leaked really badly. But, it was close to work, very reasonably priced goods, great selection of: seafood (at least four stands), vegetables grown in Lancaster, Basset's ice cream (been there at least 120 years-same stand too-sooo gooood), chocolates, Old City coffee roaster, cheese, Amish/Mennonites on Fridays and Saturdays, kitchen gadget shop, beer garden, rickety piano for someone to pound the keys, BBQ, Vegetarian, Asian, Amish (get there early), roast turkey, Gourmet food stalls to name a few choices....all packed into what I guess is a good sized city block. Some company took it over a few years back, fixed the roof, raised the vendor's rents, made it much more tourist friendly, which I have mixed feelings about, as some businesses left as a result and they had such good meat or cheese or fish. So, that is a Philly version of a farmer's market. Up here-not so much, there was one place that was ok-but, again, sold to a company that pretty much cleaned it up, a lot of disgruntled vendors and I'm not sure if it's ever going to come back to what it was.

There is a weekly Friday night "farmer's market" in the town where I work. It started as a market but is now anything but. It is a weekly summer celebration of summer with live bands, micro brews from the town brewery, wine tasting, distillery samples, entertainment for the children, some booths and food trucks. I have not been as I am in town Monday through Wednesday. If my house ever sells things will change.

But now, add in the economy, home prices decreasing, interest rates increasing. I got hit in 2008-2009. Don't want to do that again. Can't do that again. Won't do that again! I am very afraid recession is where we are headed, but a correction had to come!

Regard farmer's markets. I use to go to the once a week farmer's market in my area but stopped once the grocery stores started to offer organic items. Plus, the farmer's market had changed over the years, too many non-food booths, and less food booths. I think the farmers found it was becoming too expensive to haul all the items back and forth.

I've heard complaints that the reason we can't get more vendors is because people don't support the market. I wandered through the one last month hoping for some local asparagus, rhubarb and maybe some early strawberries and what I saw was a (small!) bag of flavoured popcorn for $10. There was honey, but we have a family apiary just a few minutes out of town that I would rather support. Dog treats. Paintings that looked like an amateur DIY project. Frozen pizza from a big company that sells at fairs and markets. Just one food truck, selling food that didn't make my mouth water. And absolutely no asparagus, rhubarb or strawberries :(
I didn't bother to walk through the one this month.

Farmer's Market are new to me, but are as you describe, Cwillie. Expensive too. Tamales are $4.00 each.
The new FM has a video while the market is open. It showed the health department out in force, and the host 'issuing warnings' to vendors of their presence.
There were also inspections to make sure a vendor was selling fresh, grown themselves. But it appeared they were 'on the FM circuit', doing that only, except for the Tamale vendor.

Some really nice vegetables. And loose teas, some medicinal.

It was over 90 degrees that day, so I was wondering how they could keep food cold enough with just ice in a cooler. 🙄

When I was young we never had any farmer's market locally but I remember making a couple of trips to a very big market in Mennonite country that featured a lot of fresh and prepared foods as well as handicrafts from local growers (and even a livestock auction), all at amazing low prices. Today there are "farmer's markets" popping up in a lot of local communities but they seem to me to be just a marketing ploy, most of the vendors are businesses that only do the market circuit, and even when you can find someone selling actual locally grown/produced food it is at a premium price far in excess of what I would pay for the same items from the grocery store.
I'm curious, what farmer's markets are like where you live?

We are getting a little pop of hot weather (34°C/93°F), when I checked the near by beach cam I can see lots of people in the water.
Water temperature is around 15°C, that's about 60°F. Brrr, those people are nuts!

My sis just called from her MIL's, the power has finally come back on after Saturday's storm and she is helping to go through the fridge/freezer. MIL doesn't want to throw anything away and sis doesn't want to be the one who has to force the issue 😬🙄

It seems I got lucky yesterday, the storm that raced through my region was just the northern edge of a string of destructive weather that ripped across the province, there are power outages and trees down from Windsor to Ottawa and on into parts of Quebec.

I shouldn't have stopped for that to-go coffee, I was still 3 blocks from my door when a storm blew in with rain and hail. Soaked to the skin (and I'm glad the hail was tiny, ouch)!

Willie, I agree. I hate it when it gets warm out. Fortunately, we've been having an unseasonably cool Spring.

I'm still feeling crap though so I could be in Paradise and it would not matter.

Just heard that the nephew of one of my friends, son of a former member of our congregation died. He was 25.

No details, but I can't imagine the pain that all of his family is enduring.

We say Baruch Dayan ha'Emet (blessed is the true judge). Too sad.

Grocery delivered last week included Guacamole, packaged, keep refrigerated, perishable. Husband put it in the cupboard. Handed it to me while I was making nachos, eating nachos. Then it dawned on me.

His relentless search for older, spoiled food is now affecting me, even though I have done the 24/7 hypervigilance routine.
