GA,
Thanks for mentioning the car insurance again. I am going to need to look into mine even closer now. Because they sent a letter, saying the Mileage Report form was enclosed, but it wasn't. Costco has another carrier, and they never asked me what the mileage was. Still waiting for the form.

Most insurance companies prior to this have asked. But now they ask me to estimate mileage per year. Well, how are they going to prove (ie: the value of my car by mileage used over the years) if they have no record of documented mileage since 2015?

When I had the oil changed, the mechanic put down the wrong mileage. I was using this to estimate my yearly mileage used. Oops.

Send wrote (a month ago - I'm just getting around to this thread!):

'found that I wayyy overpaid car insurance for the last two years."

It's interesting that you discovered that. I did as well, once the fog of caregiving began to lift and I had more time to assess various aspects of my life.

Some years ago I found really good insurance agent; we got along well, she was helpful in recommending carriers, one of whom was, as she put it, partial to seniors. Prices were right, I switched carriers.

Over the years and a few what I considered claims (which were denied), I began to rethink the value of this carrier. Moving forward and checking other carriers, I found a cheaper, more reasonable carrier. So I switched, on the last day before the current insurance expired as I didn't feel like going through explanations on why I had no confidence any more in the carrier she selected.

Called at an odd time and left a message. When she returned the call, of course wanting to talk me out of switching, she also mentioned that she had several other carriers with good prices. So why didn't she mention that before I switched? I never called her back.

Just an observation: if someone tells you that a certain carrier is partial to seniors, still do all your comparison checking, but think seriously about whether or not this advice is really true.

Boj, was that a freudian slip?

dear everyone :),

have an awesome sunday :).

1.
AND this message is to give warmth and beautiful (use imagination; your favorite colors) flowers, to everyone here helping their elderly LOs. (for people not so into flowers: here is fresh beer).

some people, on the contrary, receive totally undeserved screaming/blame/criticism, day in, day out.

wash it out of your mind.

and replace with here:
warmth and a huuge number of flowers.

hug!

2.
AND here is double the warmth + flowers, as soon as you manage to also rescue your own life (deceasing stress, being doubly kind to yourself, because your ‘self-care cup’ needs double filling).
:)

bundle of joy :)

more hugs to everyone! :)

on my mind?

POSITIVE:

i say it just about daily directly to them:

i have - fantastic - caregivers. so lucky.

as we all know, while caring for our elderly LOs, it's an unfortunate rollercoaster:
emergency/calm/peace/emergency/calm, etc.

the caregivers have now gone through a few emergencies, together with my LOs and i. they have been amazing. and they sincerely, genuinely, care.

NEGATIVE:

i notice physical symptoms from stress. i promise to be more careful of my body/mind/soul/heart, everything.

i wish us well!! :) :) :) :)

bundle of joy :)

Disclaimer: I did not make this up, cannot claim association or family resemblance to the injured patient, not sure that I believe the story as told to me.

Something is fishy....
CNA agrees to become In Home Service Provider,
but darn, not a CNA, and no driver's license to drive her to the store..
maybe a criminal.

Patient had broken her foot, and barely healing.
New CNA, (not a CNA) helps patient to move her bed, and headboard falls on
broken foot.
This is (can't be) happening, but yes, it is a full moon @ 98.6% full.

Got to, just need to keep out of this toxic chaos.

I think that people are mostly just oblivious to the danger ITRR. It "looks" solid and some may even assume the piles of snow and ice are built up over the beach when in reality they are 10, 20 or 30 feet off shore... and of course all it takes is seeing one other person out there for the rest to assume that means it's okay.
Same thing happens with people venturing out on the ice over ponds and rivers, maybe you could do it years ago but with climate change we just can't reliably trust that it's thick enough in this area any more.

cwillie, that is a horrifying picture.

Sounds like people that want daring selfies and fall over cliffs. How many have died out of the millions that have done it? Had it happened before it became a "thing" it might not have become a "thing".

Just wow!

I have to admit, I have never had any desire for this type of adrenal rush though, so I would never get it.

It's that time of year again that whenever I check the local beach cam I see fools climbing all over the highly unstable shelf ice. It's stupid enough in the dead of winter but on a windy day with temps well above freezing it is doubly so - yeah, maybe nobody has died in recent memory but it's really playing a dangerous game of chicken 😦

Dear Lord,

Thank you for standing by me so far today.
With your help. I haven't been grumpy, judgmental, or even lost my temper.

But I will be getting out of bed soon, and I'll really be needing your help even more.

Cwillie,
Congratulations! Good deal.
We are addressing the grocery expense this month.

After getting the oil changed in my car, checking mileage...
found that I wayyy overpaid car insurance for the last two years.
Stayed home a lot!

Instead of just under 10,000 miles per year, it was less than 4,150.
Still wondering if I made a mistake on the calculations. When I figure this out, I may call the insurance company for a possible refund. Slipped my mind.

Oh dear. It could be only 1,040 miles in 2021.

I'm pretty sure I've grumbled here before about the 2 grocery stores in my small town being ridiculously expensive since it's one of my major peeves. The other day I made the trip to the next town to shop at the discount supermarket there and when I got home I went through my receipt and checked the prices against what I would have paid if I had bought the same items online from my local supermarket (which coincidentally is part of the same grocery family, Loblaw).
my cost - $40.24
total at local store - $88.98.
100% worth the drive.

I am on my Feb staycation that I take every year to burn down some PTO, and so far it has been nice. Just piddling around the house, some cleaning out and trips to Goodwill, etc. Tomorrow Hubs and I are taking a day trip to Luray Caverns.. just because,, Hey its a vacation! We opted for a day trip because of the animals, and I am actually looking forward to it! Have not been there in many years, and they say it is an easy self guided walk of about 1.5 miles. Planning to go slow and take pictures. Today DD had off so she spent the day with us and we did Valentines day dinner of steak and scallops,, yummy! And a friend stopped by. Thursday another BF is coming over with her grand daughter they are taking care of temporarily,, she is already tired out after 3 days, so the GD can run around here and play with the dog and cats and we can catch up. I told her there is a reason we ladies in our 60s don;t have babies... LOL we are too tired!

I don't think that as we age, we can ever get too old to be surprised!

It is my fault the sunflower seeds in Dh's snack cupboard were so old, my fault, yep, all my fault. 🕯

The house air gets very dry in winter, causing dry throats, dry nose membranes, dry skin, and coughing, and itching.
I read that keeping the humidity higher can help ease that, prevent colds/flu, clean the air, decrease the dust. And I will look younger maybe!
Humidity reading over 30% has helped, as it dropped to 16%. The actual recommended readings for better comfort and health are online.

Spring brings a load of regular maintenance of the home to mind....some things are spring cleaning; changing batteries in fire alarms, motion activated lights, sorting through food storage, and other things you might mention.

I have a list of things to do in the spring, continued from 5 years ago....no problem, some of those things never got done. 🤗

So far, we did take down and put away the Christmas lights.

Good news. Just yesterday, my dH and I sorted through the food supply, and I hid the expired foods in a trash bag under my bed, so I can remove it when he is not home.

Bad news. Just today, those good looking sunflower seeds were sitting in a jar on the counter, dH just had some. They were so expired, rancid, tasted toxic like a chemical, I had to spit them out. Putting them down the garbage disposal, he objects. Don't do that! Another disagreement. I hate this.

A friend of mine is flying to Monkton NB later this week to visit a daughter she hasn't been able to see for a couple of years so in light of the big storm heading up the coast I thought I would check the weather forecast for that area. I was puzzled when neither the Weather Network or AccuWeather were able to supply anything for Monckton, and they couldn't find St John or Frederickton either. And then when I tried a general search of New Brunswick they couldn't supply that, it's like the whole province doesn't exist. WTF

Oh my! People are being good to me. My snow angel came by this evening to do the driveway and sidewalk, and I went out to take the trash to the curb as I forgot it last week. Normally I wouldn't go when he is here, but it came to mind and I didn't want to forget it again. He offered to take the 2 bins to the curb for me. It's not a big thing but it counts. The trash bin was heavy for me this week with the stuff from the basement flood and the driveway is slippery and I don't need another tumble. I will be so glad when I don't have to do this anymore.

Waiting to hear the final word on financing for the condo.

Re: the quilts - I belong to a church group that makes quilts for the homeless and other charities, that's all well and good when the materials are donated but when they end up buying fabric, batt and thread I can't help but think they could have got more bang for the buck buying blankets from Walmart. Same goes for all the people knitting mittens, for goodness sake I can buy better, waterproof insulated mittens at the dollar store.

Cwillie, when we were young, crafts were a way to save money. Gardening for vegetables and a few flowers for the house, knitting for pullovers, crochet for little mats you couldn’t afford to buy, etc etc. We unraveled jumpers to re-use the wool. Now crafts are a way to spend money, not to save it. I was shocked to find from a friend that making a quilt cost her several hundred dollars for materials, as well as hours of her time.

Try going back to the old ways. Walk around the block, find something that seems to grow easily where you are, go in and ask if you could take a cutting. You might even meet some nice people! Collect your own seeds. Use all that plastic packaging to make seed trays. Make your own compost to turn into potting mix. Find a gardening club with like minded tight wads like me!

I've never had the time or the space to plant everything I lusted after in magazines and catalogues GA, seems when I had plenty of one I never had enough of the other. And the prices are just ridiculous, gardening used to be an inexpensive hobby but now everything from the seeds, pots, soil to fertilizers are becoming more than I'm willing to pay.

CWillie, I've experienced a slow loading (more like an annoying delay) in loading, other than signing in and out.  This has occurred for at least a week.   I began to open two browsers and switch back and forth, giving this site time to load.  However, usually I just give up and leave.   I'm getting garden catalogues, and I'd rather spend my time deciding how much money to spend on dozens of new varieties of bulbs and seeds.  So far, I've identified at least enough to compromise 1/2 of my monthly SS allotment.  And that's only from 3 catalogues.
