Find Care & Housing
We are under stricter measures than ever yet case counts are soaring through the roof, I am so over this - checking the morning news has part of me wanting to crawl under a rock and hide while the rest of me wants to throw off the traces and run wild. I've had no contact yet about vaccine availability. And on top of that the trees are pollinating and I want to tear my itchy eyes out.😖

Here in Md they are finally getting it into the Drs offices. We got an email 2 weeks ago, hubs repsonded he would take whatever they had, and 4 days later he got Moderna right in the Dr office! So much easier than the lists and drive bys.

Check the BBC news website now - it has the findings from EU and UK regulators...

cwille,

Can you sign up for more than one location?

People do that here. They take first available.

They are asked to cancel the others.

Sometimes they do, other times not.

Then they have to find others to receive the vaccine which isn’t an issue unless it’s near closing time.

AZ is only open to those 55+ while they study the risk for younger age groups NHWM. I have no idea where I am in the queue, but since I only logged on this morning probably not anytime soon.
Most of the 80+ group who want it have received their first dose of Pfizer, we have only recently opened that tier up for those 70+ (65+ in some places) and other identified high risk groups.

I am a news junkie and I like to check the BBC, ABC, Al Jazzera for different perspectives. And of course MSN likes to try to shove American news down our throats on their platform.

cwille,

I hope that you are able to get your shot soon!

I would take the first available vaccine.

Chris,

So true. I believe that Astra even said the blood clots may or may not be related to the vaccine. Who knows, right?

I got the Moderna. No issues except sore arm.

Restrictions are letting up here.
(3)

We have Pfizer too, and also today was the first day someone got a Moderna jab in the UK. The largest number of jabs has been with the AZ one though - at least 18 million shots given of that one, to date. With those kinds of numbers you are bound to see a few cases of very rare side effects, if indeed they are even linked to the jab.

If you are interested, EU and UK regulatory authorities are giving an update later on today about the AZ jab and any potential side effects.

Since we’re just starting to emerge cautiously from a 3 month lockdown, it’s hard to see whether the dramatic reduction in UK hospitalisations and deaths are purely linked to the lockdown, or to the vaccination programme as well, but early indications are that the jab is doing its job. It’s reducing the number of cases through the protection it offers, reducing person to person transmission of the virus, and virtually eliminating serious illness, hospitalisation and death amongst those who might still get the virus after the jab.

cwille,

Do they still have age restrictions on Astra?

Did you get your shot yet?

Certainly better than wasting the shot, even if there are age restrictions.

I know people that refuse to take any vaccine. They are afraid and no one can convince them.

I would be more afraid of getting Covid, than enduring the side effects.

Biden approved shipments of AZ to us that would have otherwise gone to waste because as far as I know it still isn't approved in the US. There has been a big push to use it up before it expires.

cwille,

Yes, there is Johnson and Johnson, only one shot. It’s supposed to be slightly less effective.

There was an issue with Astra in younger people (under 60), it was causing blood clots. I don’t know if it’s still like that.

And the morning news reports there will be a stay at home order announced today. Despite current measures case numbers are exploding, mostly in urban areas - they are back to erecting field hospitals 😣

Of course the press has glommed on to the blot clot story and that is what is driving my reluctance, plus the fact that Pfizer & Moderna both seem to be more effective. Is the UK 100% AstraZeneca or do they have other vaccines as well Chris?

I had the AZ shot, as did my DH and pretty much everyone we know who is eligible for it at the moment. No side effects, arm wasn’t really that sore either.

They have opened up for those 55+ for the AstaZeneca vaccine and I've followed an obscure trail to put in a request to add my name to the list, I have no idea when an appointment may become available. I'm ambivalent about the AZ shot, if I have the opportunity to get Pfizer first I will take it instead.

We recently had another thread asking why old people constantly talk about their bodily functions. Today on my walk I noticed a new, annoying, doughnut shaped floater in my eye, when I checked online after I got home I discovered that it is called a Weiss ring and happens to almost everyone when the vitreous fluid in the eye detaches as we age. It won't ever go away but most people learn to ignore it after a while. WTF 😖

Going to just sneak this event in here for those interested on 3/23 and 3/24.

Coronal mass ejections can be dangerous when they hit the Earth. CME's can seriously disrupt the Earth's environment. Intense radiation from the Sun, which arrives only 8 minutes after being released, can alter the Earth's outer atmosphere, disrupting long-distance radio communications, earth's electrical grid, and sensitive person's health: heart and emotions.

This event is not expected to be a direct hit on the earth's atmosphere.

Disclaimer: Difficulty wording this, don't know too much about these things.

Once I put on the kettle to boil and went into the other room waiting to hear it whistle. I was watching t.v. and wondering why I hadn't heard it yet. So I went into the kitchen and the burner was on but no kettle. I hunted for it and eventually found it in the fridge.

So absent mindedness gets us all Willie. Look for your window box in the least likely place and you might find it. :)

cw,

Well, that could be. Things can turn up in odd places. It’s usually because we started doing a project, then get distracted with an interruption and inadvertently place objects in unusual places.

My mom said when my brother was a baby they didn’t sleep for months. She said that daddy was so sleep deprived that he cracked two eggs in a bowl and put them in the kitchen cabinet.

Mom woke up the next morning and got a bowl down to scramble eggs and there were two raw eggs already in the bowl! 😆

I'm waiting until the weather completely turns warmer so I can clean out everything before I give up NHWM. I just can't imagine anybody taking it, I'm sure I have probably done something weird with it (but right now I can't imagine what that is) 🤔😕

wille,

Someone must have taken it. I love window boxes.

If you have checked everywhere, what other explanation is there?

I have 2 window boxes that I place by my door every year. One I brought in after I took down my Christmas/winter greenery, I've been looking everywhere for other one and I think I've checked all the logical places; in the shed, under the deck, in the house (odd, but ???). How can a window box just disappear?

Celebrating March birthdays, of course!
Marzipan marble pound cake. 🍰
Tweety went to bed early, and I already had my 5 hours of consecutive sleep.
I don't fight the insomnia anymore, and go to sleep anytime I want.
If I go to bed early, I am awake after 4-5 hours.

And where were those damaging winds predicted also in my area?

It would make a good hobby to make our own greeting cards. Except, after years of e-mail, I no longer have kept track of people's home addresses. 🤦‍♀️

Happy Birthday CWillie!

My #4 nephew's SO works for a greeting card manufacturer and apparently business is booming so somebody must be sending old fashioned cards in the mail.
The forecast was for damaging winds overnight (although I didn't notice anything) so I guess March is in like a Lion and should leave like a Lamb?

(BTW, wasn't it the middle of the night there 3 hours ago, what are you doing up in the middle of the night?)

Just do not want to forget to wish people happiness on special days CWillie!
Especially when I will be busy with bills during the first 3 days of the month.

Hoping for a return to the social formality of mailing out cards to a few people, starting again as a hobby. And the function to complete it. You know, finding the pen, the card, the address, filling it out, sealing without licking the envelope, keeping it nearby to put in the mailbox. Could be a real chore!
