My local news talk radio station is driving me nuts, and it's not just the inane commentary (although there's plenty of that too). Sometime in the last decade a professor at the local college must have really emphasized the idea of careful annunciation because half the people have an annoyingly robotic speech pattern - you know, where there is that. little. pause. between. each. and. every. word. And I'm not sure if advertisers are trying to be folksy or they are just just at the mercy of poorly educated writers but even the commercials are annoying. Ahhhh!

Cwillie, I hope you feel better. This is such a depressing time of year even without Covid. It is freezing here in Upstate New York and there is no SUN!! We are expecting more snow and freezing cold this week. I hope you feel better.

Dear cwillie, you said “you can delete if you come back in the 30 minute edit window as long as you replace the comment with something else, even a period will do”. One bright side for women about getting old – no more periods! That’s something NOT to get depressed about..

cw. - sorry that you are depressed. Dealing with doctors usually depresses me if only for a short while. The last one I went to for a full check up gave me the works and I was definitely over 75. That is the works minus a colonoscopy. These days are especially challenging for just about everything and everyone. I am finding that music helps my mood. It doesn't change the externals but when I listen to it alot I feel better. Definitely the North American world is geared to people much younger than us.

cwille,

I get it! I have my share of depression at times too.

You don’t have to justify or explain your feelings to me.

I think some of the ‘Pollyanna’ advice is ridiculous too!

I don’t think we can get ‘over’ things with any of those silly or foolish recommendations either.

We work through issues. Sometimes it takes a bit of time. Perhaps more than we like.

I am so sorry that you are down but you have valid reasons and I will not question or criticize you about it.

I wish that I could be of more help. All I can offer is support.

I hope things will improve for you soon.

In the meantime, you are welcome to vent anytime. I am sincere in my empathy.

Thanks NHWM. I'm just depressed. And I'm so effing tired of all the inane pep talk online telling you that life is better after 50 or that to combat loneliness you need to go and volunteer or any of that other sh*t advice and that 90% of everything written there is usually focused on people under 30.

For anyone who is interested in our Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans this year. Look up our krewe of house floats.

Of course, the parades are canceled. It’s fun to see our creative spirit is still alive! We have thousands of homes that are decorated like floats. So cool!

cwille,

My doctor says that all women still need physical examinations until the age of 66.

Once a woman reaches 66, she no longer requires a physical examination.

So, in my opinion you have every right to feel as you do.

I hope that you can resolve this issue with your doctor. Please share your concerns with your doctors.

Golden/Send, My Mom and I have taken Robaxin. Very effective and no side effects
(3)
Report

Send - there is Robaxin or Robax - the same thing - just methocarbamol. It has few side effects and is reported to be very safe.

There is also methocarbamol combined with other pain killers which I have used alone and they don't help FM pain at all for me so I prefer the plain methocarbamol.

Robaxacet - Acetaminophen/Methocarbamol
Robax Platinum - Ibuprofen/Methocarbamol
Robaxisal Extra Strength - Acetylsalicylic acid/Methocarbamol

I hope it helps you. You may feel the relaxing effect when you first take it. The music is really helping my sleep and I know that is part of the equation. But I don't know if I could soak myself in it as I am if I didn't live alone.

Pumpkin is safe. Neither of them went out yesterday.

Gershun - Minus 2? I wish!!! I guess it is what you are used to. But, I will never get used to minus 30 and worse.

Gershun,
Oh, that is cold!

It could be cold until March?

Trading is not necessary Gershun. There is plenty of sun in SoCal to go around. 🌻🌼☀️🌤🌅

Respect. I have a lot of respect for anyone living in that much cold.

Pammzi,
You are strong to be able to do what needs to be done now.
The birthday card for DD will always be a sweet memory from Grandma.
She must have been an amazing Mom, thinking of others at the end of her life.

Sorry for your loss.

omg.
This morning it was 19 degrees! What a shocker!
In the night, I dropped the digital thermometer, it was accidentally reset to Celsius.
Still, 65 is cold when you want to get out of bed.

Sorry the rest of you are freezing. Hoping little Pumpkin stays inside.

Thanks everyone for your advice and well wishes.

Will be looking up Robax.
I am a mess.

Pam, I agree, your daughter will appreciate those memories!

its...bittersweet isn’t it? Is that the right word to described it? I remember when my MIL passed, we had to go through a couple old trunks she had, to find pictures for the slide show. One of the trunks was FULL of memories. She kept her kids report cards, writing assignments and art work and every card they gave to her. Every card from the grandkids too. None of her children knew she had saved all of that stuff. We didn’t know she was so sentimental! And the kids got to relive memories for those few hours we went through the trunk. We laughed and we cried a lot that day.

I have been slowly cleaning up Moms things, and doing her desk a bit a a time. Today I found a birthday card she bought for my Daughter, ( she passed before her bitrthday) and a box of letters she saved that we had sent to her ( from DD) when DD was very young! I am going to give them to DD, who will get a kick from them. This is hard.. but I know she is in a better place.

Send - sorry about the flare up, They are no fun. I find Robax (methocarbamol ) is the only drug that helps me, Recently I read a study that showed that listening to music reduced pain in FM patients, and improved their sleep. I didn't buy the article so I don't know the specifics but I figure any music that you like that is relaxing, and listening for a several hours a day could help and certainly wouldn't harm. I have been doing it for the last few days and my sleep is definitely improved. I hope it works for the pain. And hope you feel better soon.

Golden,
Having a fibromyalgia flare-up.
I want to be numb, on my bum and my whole backside. Legs and foot too.
20 minutes max. Just a moment without pain would be nice.

My dH rubbed my shoulder. Just like fibro knots, they are painful to the touch. There was a sore spot, he rubbed it out! Felt so much better! Of course, this hurts his arthritic hands, so cannot do it often. I so appreciate him. Then I have to rub his neck. 🤷🤷‍♂️

The temperature is dropping now at 4:00 p.m. to 67 degrees F.
The sun is still out, the high today was 74 degrees. Hubs is wearing shorts.

It was a good Sunday in SoCal.

So, I am not going to wish for snow or rain. I will be content. Even though I need to ice my perifomis muscle, and sitting on a snow patch would help.
No complaints though.

Yeah, when I check WunderMap it's pretty darn cold all through the prairies, the worst is -37°F up in Golden's territory (I'm not stalking Golden, just checking up on my nephew who also lives out that way).
OTOH it's a sunny 84°F in Jamaica this morning.......I'm dreaming of warm beaches🏖️🌴

Geaton, don't they use block heaters there?

Apparently we are to just about to have our coldest, snowiest weekend in the UK for several years. Windchill on Monday to be -7 degrees celsius, which is nothing compared to what you guys get. The media are calling it the second "Beast from the East" after the first one in 2018, when we had about 60cm of snow. Again, that's not excessive by your standards, but we are just not set up to deal with it as it's so rare for us.

-3 F here in MN this morning. When I first moved here in '79 there was one night where the air temp was -40F and with added wind chill it was -80F. My friend said the bowling ball stored in the trunk of her car parked outside shattered that night. My hubs grew up here in the days before all the modern warm weather fabrics. Just wool and fur and down. When he was in college he had to light a small charcoal fire under the oil pan of his beater wagon in order for it to start. If there's no wind, you can do all the same activities outside even at those temps. "There are no bad temps, only inappropriate dress." These temps keep out the riff-raff. Fewer crimes committed outdoors. Way fewer cockroaches.
