Feathers, feathers, feathers!
The angels are molting?

There are no more tears in heaven, and no more dandruff either.

So, Gershun, when it was lightening, you used to say the angels were changing lightbulbs?

Maybe someone up in Heaven has dandruff.

We used to say when it thundered that the angels were bowling.

Thank you cwillie. I'm in the US, and got one documentary by Dan Curtis, just by searching for 'caregivers'. Wish I'd seen it earlier, but it still helps. I hope alot of caregivers get to see it.

Pprogressive dinners sound like a great idea!

Rriverdale, I believe he had his prostate removed but the cancer had already spread to his bones and some nodes. He seems to be doing okay with radiation and hormone therapy.

Glad your numbers are better!

I've stumbled across some documentaries on caregivers at the National Film Board of Canada archives that were made back in 1997 by filmmaker Dan Curtis. I wish that everyone who has aging relatives or knows a caregiver could watch them, they are such a wonderfully bitter sweet portrait of the realities of aging (one dear old soul in particular very much reminded me of my mom). One thing that struck me was how relatable they are and how little things have changed in 20 years. Unfortunately I don't think that the videos will play for those outside of Canada.

The progressive dinner groups sound fun. There is one here that a local food critic does at our fine restaurants. Interesting idea too. I love cooking too. Not a big eater but ironically I like cooking.

Usedup, that sounds like so much fun! Enjoy, and it sounds like you are doing great at meeting new people!

I joined a new progressive dinner group in my condo building. We met this evening for dinner. Had cocktails first, a great asparagus salad; had chicken n’ dumplings and broccoli casserole in my condo. Finally desserts and coffee downstairs in gathering room. Had a good group of people - all single and mostly 45 -65. I met several new interesting people. We meet again in two weeks. I belong to another progressive dinner group which is good too. Wider variety of ages and a few couples. I’m not very good at meeting new people, but I like to cook and try new food, so this works well for me.

My numbers are better today. Grateful for that.

Barb. Is the cancer patient having prostrate removed? My husband is as it is through out the prostrate. It's being done at the end of January

Barb,

Sorry about his cancer. Yeah, some women don’t listen to advice. Some don’t even listen to their own inner voice.

cwille,

Same thing with my mom. Pressure became very low. I ended up taking her to the ER. The ER doctor told me that Parkinson’s patients generally run lower blood pressure. She took her off of her meds. I didn’t even know why she was on them. She never had high blood pressure. Do some doctors just give a person BP meds when they reach a certain age?

NHWM; He has a huge ego, is very smart, charming and manipulative. His current wife (someone I've known and liked for years) was well warned by everyone in our community about what he was like before she married him.

Needing to look out for my very smart daughter's interests, going forward. He has state 4 prostate cancer and he plays that very poignantly and frequently.

Barb,

You’re a wonderful grandmother. Your daughter is blessed to have you to call on in a pinch.

That’s a shame your ex is a bully. Don’t you think bullying comes from insecurities? Sometimes I do. Other times I think people are capable of simply being mean and have huge egos and feel they are entitled to ‘special treatment.’

This probably belongs in the whine thread; Ex's hot water heater blew yesterday as he and his DW were heading out to Budapest. He called my eldest, who is now arranging replacement; I needed to pinch hit by picking up grandson (no problem there!!) but now she is going to have to move everything in his basement to facilitate getting the new water heater brought in. I told her that kind of labor was NOT part of her contract and to tell her dad he needed to hire someone to do it, or to get her brother or ANYONE else to do this.

She thinks she has boundaries. We ALL think we have boundaries, but he's the quintessential charming bully and we all usually agree to what he proposes.

Sigh.

I did google some of the medications. Some can lower BP while others can raise it. The dilemma is that just recently it had dropped so low.
(1)
Report

Cwillie, they are medications I have taken for awhile. My BP tends to run low but never with numbers below 100 and a pulse rate in the 120 range. BP was a little better this morning but pulse was 126. We have left a message for the doctor. Last night was bad because even though I was tired I couldn't get to sleep.

Riverdale - you say no new medications but do any of your regular ones lower BP? I watched my mother's pressure drop dangerously low and no one had the presence of mind to reduce or discontinue her meds.

The Viking is on liquid cystex as prevention which has dmannose - it has helped a lot since she had sepsis two years ago

the latest UTI was ecoli so likely a result of diarrhea - being immobile makes it nearly impossible to avoid going up the urethra

her mood has become so bad that I'm thinking I'll have no choice but to put her back on risperdal which I absolutely hate doing as it knocked her out and made her speak gibberish
it was suggested to use neurontin but that too is off label and has a high tolerance with need for increasing dosage

I have been drinking water, decaf tea, coconut water. Have eaten fruit, soup, little rice puddings. Don't really know what else to do. Just wondered if anyone has any thoughts regarding this issue.

D. Mannose comes from cranberries.

MsMadge,
The Viking has had enough UTI's that seeing a urologist to manage this would help? The urologist can check to see if the UTI has cleared.

If she is still looking sick, can you have her tested for sepsis?

There is one antibiotic that reads: it is still working after the meds run out.
That one is not Bactrim I don't think.

Instead of worry, can you call the doctor today, before the weekend?

Do you have treatment for Candida, often caused by antibiotics?
Is her tongue coated white?
(2)
Report

D Mannose powder works, imo, as a preventative, and is almost tasteless, no bad taste, diluted in water.
If a patient has diabetes, one must be careful, get a doctor's advice if it is safe.

If I have it correct, the D Mannose are the sugars from the cranberry.

That does not make it harmful sugars, just check it out because I cannot figure it out.

As for occasional sugary treats allowed for any diabetic, when there is presence of UTI and antibiotics, NO SUGAR at that time. It would be contraindicated. Sorry, do not have the reference available at this time.

The Viking is done with her second round of bactrim for another uti

she still looks sick
I hate to cath her again to get a sample to see if it’s clear

one of my favorite hoca residents passed - still fairly young and he loved to push the Viking’s buttons but I never worried that he would get mean with her despite her cussing him out

maybe he was blessed to go quickly as opposed to being locked up in the land of the demented for years
