How are you handling the HEAT??? I can't imagine what it's like with an older person... Super heat wipes us all out, & they are fragile ~ But damn it .. so are we!
Whooops ... my sorry sub conscious just hit ... I know it's easier for us younguns ...
But do you ever have an hour of peace?
I know ... define peace? In our lives it's a "moment uninterrupted".
I know and it doesn't bother me, let me know we will go sit outside...if it is dementia settling in it is gonna be trouble, other wise he just wanted to sit outside and realized a little too late it is not really something he can just go and do anymore...Mom will be home soon,,,hmm and it is all my fault again....
BGB, Mom is only 83 and can't walk by herself anymore. She fell down all the time, and couldn't remember it happening 5 minutes later! She is now strapped to her wheelchair and in a special walker at daycare, or they wouldn't be able to keep her there! It's really tough getting her out the door and into the car three days a week. Getting her home is worse because she is so tired by then, but won't nap ever! Is your Gram still home alone during the day? Does she have dementia? If so, you're going to need someone to be with her all the time eventually. I had to quit my job over 2 years ago to be with Mom. It's a long road! Glad to see you come here for help. Miz, sorry you are so down lately. Sounds like we all need SLEEP!!!!! Linda, Poor you! Not enough sleep either. Love the boot story. Does Dad wear pull-ups to bed? I found the best ones on the market, if you want the info. Saved me from changing the bed so much. Rip, Pollen in the fall? We have ragweed, dry leaves, etc.,but I don't think any pollen. Jen, Sorry for your bad day! Husband's new owner is coming in tomorrow to take over the business. Hope he still has a job when he gets home!
Ok this is how you get rid of the oder. I use Hydrogen Peroxide in her wash, I put a little in the water she washes up with (just a little) I also use it to clean with (make sure you use gloves) I use it around the base to the toilet because she refuses to sit. I was using bleach it only covers it up for a short time and it was killing me. I use it in washing all the towels she use. Now I clean everything with it and it's cheaper than bleach. try it. when using it straight out the bottle use gloves if not it makes my hands pain. So use the gloves, Oh I clean her teeth.
BGB ~ I received an email about Hydrogen Peroxide! Made sense. I use way too much bleach! Is it all they say it is? I'm on!~ Where do they sell it in gallons?
What does the hydrogen Peroxode do? Is it a pee be gone? Wish I could douse the house in it....
Hey deefer how is things East Side?
Waiting for my mom to come home, blame me for everything as usual. My aunt is gonna call and recommend child proof locks. Mom just gets annoyed anyone talks behind her back but as she wont talk or listen TO anyone so be it...
You can use Hydrogen Peroxide for lots of things. I use it to whiten my teeth also, I learned the hard way I had to use gloves when clean with it. I also had an email years ago and it was a list of things you can do with it but i don't have it anymore i just use it everything i don't use bleach anymore. and i find the peroxide works, i wish i did know where to buy it in gallons.
Deefer, My husband and i take care of my grandmother we both work we leave home around 6am and return 4pm the caretaker come at 7am and leave at noon so shes home til 4pm by herself, but trust me she don't leave that chair unless she want coffee and it's in the coffee pot, sometimes she might want to cook an egg.she's burn a few pot's, the smoke alarm goes off the the lady next door comes running. So far so good. it's just that when we get home she want to talk us up from the time we get there til she goes to bed, with the same story over and over and over, because she been home for about four hours along. in her mind that forever.
You all take care i'm going home to hear that story about papa and the train.
i too wondered about pamela . i sent her a hug but still havent heard from her . deefer.. my dad wears depend pull ups . it leaks all to one side (left side) never on the right side , i guess thats where his penis likes to lay on the left side . sometimes it dont leak and sometimes it does . i use cloth padding and plus plastic padding and his pull up brief , ahh still leaks , i got online what i saw on tv about cheap pull ups , and bam i was getting warnings , virus attackin my computer . i hurried and got that cleaned out , piss me off that they adveriste shit on tv and askin us to get online and its got virus in there . i guess i ll stick with good ole walmart . even tho i hate that store . wheres bobbie , miz , secret sister ? priategal and tenn too . hope im not forgettin someone eles . oh yes maxine !! hope all is well . never took a nap i wanted , daughter called said shes comin over and i waited and waited , she went to the store and went on back home and didnt stop by here . i thought well thats great , no nap . hopefuly i ll get to bed early tnite . pa slept almost all day and he ll be awake all nite . i ll put him in bed and turn on his lit tv and pasty cline music and my shift will be over till morning . gosh im so worn out , oh the proxide , yep ! it cleans windows too !!! best window cleaner ive ever came across ! oh yes plz wear gloves haha if u dont ur hands will be stingin and turn white and get all foamy up . itch like hell after while . xoxoo
Hi! Ladies, I do not sleep at night because I work. But my mother sleeps like an angel all night long, so I can sleep if I want to. You have seriously to find a way to make your mother /father /grandmother /grandfather/ (whoever) sleep... If they do not sleep at night it does not matter to them, they don't have such an active life during the day. But we, we have to work, cook, clean the house and so on. We have to rest, (decently). You cannot go on waking up 5 times a night to change diapers, make night breakfasts and so on.... Make them sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bludgeon them, if it is necessary. Jen! Are you alright after the bleach shower? I am glad you managed to wash it away very fast! Oxygen peroxide seems a good way of killing bacteria, maybe you could throw the bleach away. We have to be careful, we are tired and so we do not pay enough attention when we do things, Do you remember when I climbed the sidewalk last summer???? Good night everybody!
Wow, it sounds like everyone is having their own set of challenges this week. Deefer, I hope everything works out ok with hubby's job. It's the not knowing that drives you crazy. GP, I hope the new depression doctor can get you on the right track and you can get rid of the UTI. BGB, thanks for the hydrogen peroxide tip. I'm going to give it a try. Rip & Jen, my buddies out west, I feel for you. The isolation and "imprisonment" gets to us all after awhile. Rossella, I can soooooo relate to you and your mother's situation. Mom bitches and complains that I don't treat her right when I give her my all and deprive myself of things to make sure she has. She gets to the doctor and I neglect my health to make sure she has everything. But is it ever enough? I take her out, I spend time with her yet it's never enough. It's these sort of things that help me drift into the black hole.
Bobbie, make sure the Barbara B is tied up securely. We need you and the Barbara B to keep a light at the end of the tunnel for us all!
I know I haven't addressed everyone, but know you are not forgotten. My poor pea brain just can't remember everything! Get some rest and I'll chat with you tomorrow.
Good evening all... I am so with you Miz... but i am glad that i have this oppurtunity when i do to come on here and see my online family.... it has been a busy time lately, hope everyone is well i believe dad has big surprise a uti.... nurse will be here tomorrow.. get the ua sample for culture.... i am def in better spirits....doing alot of breathing techniques which really helps with all of the anxiety.... i thank all of you for just being who you are........... i feel blessed to have found this site and all of you... hope all is well with everyone and talk to you soon angie...
Sleep, Rossella ... find time to sleep if you can.
I was a swimmer & always had the scent of chlorine on my skin & hair. Drove men wild! I'd have guys sniffing me after 3 hours out of the pool. I'd be standing in the grocery line & ... sniff sniff.. Remnants of chlorine in my hair? Maybe .... I was married when they all started sniffing ...
If i could swim again ...
This is a really stupid post but I am feeling simple now.
I have a spray nozzle in my Hydrogen Peroxide bottle now! Watch out germs ...
Also, per Castawy, I have filled squirt guns with vinegar to attack those awful Morning Glory plants.
It feels that bad. just got an Email from brother the cop who abused me, but I asked about too many calls to 911 for lift assists, my Aunt was wondering about it...he says it could be a bad thing. As in it isn't an emergency and it ties up emergency services and they do keep track that much I know, he suggested it is time to put him in a home basically, yes maybe mom will listen to the son she loves if she won't listen to the daughter she doesn't care all that much for.
Jen, sorry, I did not understand very well your story. If you want, can you explain better to me? By e-mail? If you do not want, I understand. On a lighter note: (the sexy smell of chlorine!!!) One summer, about 20 years ago, they told us that the best way to get tanned was to pour on our body a mixture of oil and sea water. The whole beach smelled of salad dressing! It was so fun. Love you babies!
Good Morning Lovely Ladies. :) I hope that jobs stay secure and none of yall are in that black hole right now. J, I hope you can come to some kind of a good result with your family that is best for all of you. GP, are you feeling any better? Pamela, where are you? I have my head above water and am actually enjoying my job. The bad news is I went to pay my vehicle registration and to change my name on it and was told I would also have to bring in my title and I would be charged $99.00 for the sticker and about $98.00 for the change of name. OMG, when does it end? I know our state is near bankruptcy but this is ridiculous!! Especially for those of us who are struggling so much financially. Ah well. I will do it and pay it. My best friend is coming to town this weekend and we are going out to lunch on Saturday. We have not done that in soooo long. Her father has cancer and is now on a feeding tube at home. So sad. K, whoever I missed, I am sorry. It's really hard for me to stay caught up on here. Love you all and hugs to all. THINK OF THE BOAT!!
Hello all, Miz, They've started charging for name change now? That is just too cold. Yet another marriage penalty? Enough already. Hope your week improves.
Linda, THE ULTIMATE ZERO COST HEAT PACK......Take a dish towel, damp/wet (not drippy), place folded in microwave & give 3-4 minutes on high power. Use a pair of tongs to remove from micro & wrap in a dry dish towel. Lay it on whatever is sore (your hub's back) until the heat goes out of it (10 min.?). They say to use a cold compress for the first 24 hrs after an injury & alternate hot & cold after that. The cold helps with swelling & the moist heat helps relax the muscle. NEVER use dry heat, always moist. Hope this helps your hub. It has worked for me many years in countless situations.
RE: Hydrogen Peroxide: Works wonderfully on blood stains (direct application) prior to wash. Bubble, bubble toil & trouble. lol. I also use vinegar in the wash (NOT in conjunction with Hydro-peroxide) in the wash as natures antiseptic and it also removes odors. Works great on towels....esp. hub's gym clothes (man sweat).
Hope everyone's elders behave themselves the rest of the week & gives some much needed peace to you ladies. Love & best.
Jen, how are things going today? Sounds like there's help on the horizon for you!
miz, SO glad that you're feeling better!!!
Job news??
Rossella, funny about the salad dressing tanning lotion! I'd heard of other people putting iodine in their sun tan lotion, too...they swore by it!
Another great heating or cold pad is to stitch 2 washclothes or handtowels together, leaving about a 2 inch opening & fill about 1/2 - 2/3 full with the cheapest white rice that the Dollar General store has. Stitch up the remaining opening. Can be kept in the freezer...great for hot flashes or place in the microwave for about 3 minutes on high. I've also used the ends of old pillow cases & have also actually made some using the legs of old blue jeans...those are my favorites. Old jeans are really soft & just feel soothing! I keep these in the freezer...it's easier & quicker to get them hot in the microwave than cold in the freezer, but you can take them straight from the freezer to the microwave. These are also good as warming pads or cold pads while transporting food to dinners! I've made some that are shaped to go around your neck & they're great over the face & eyes for a sinus infection! Hum...rice, washcloth or old blue jeans...who'd have thunk it?
Thank everybody who has encouraged me RE: the UTI! The hugs are very appreciated!!! I went to the Urologist yesterday & she said the infection was gone, but there was a bacteria...what's the difference? She did an ultrasound & a cath to see if I am retaining. YUCK! She took me off of the 4th antibiotic & put me on another med that I'll be on for 6-8 weeks. If it works great & if not then more expensive test ($650) & an even more expensive ($2000 to start with) treatment. Where does it stop?? Still miserable! I'm afraid that dark hole is sinking to the deep south, all the way to Georgia! Little to no sleep, endlessly, make one REALLY b!tchy!!! Hope everybody else is having a LOT better day!!!
Hi, we are all on the edge of that black hole, but there are better days (like this one, for everybody) which help us to stay away from the black hole. Hope for all of you and myself that every now and then we continue to have some moments of respite!
Hi Miz, Rose, Cast, deefer, Georgia, spirell, Angie, rip and dtflex...
Today is a better day simply because it is NOT YESTERDAY!
Good enough eh? Thank you all for the support and wishes...Things are quieter here. No major changes Grandpa is most definitely signed up for Adult Day Health starting Tuesday and going..........I suppose he could refuse and we will deal with that when it comes.
The 911 call regarding lift assists is. How many before they call social services? My aunt asked that after his fall yesterday, he really just slid down my leg and landed on my foot, not even hard, no injury but he is NOT able to get back up. AS far as I am concerned That IS an emergency. Don't all those LIFEALERT commercials say just that? "I've fallen and I can't get up..." "Help is on the way..." Well help IS emergency services not two guys named Guido and Slash who run a senior lift assist program, where all they do it stay on call and go pick up people who have fallen on the ground!
And I doubt we are near the limit. Yes there is better use of emergency technicians time but this IS part of their job Period, you want to help people, fine, take 20 minutes help my grandfather up off the pavement! Old people fall in nursing homes too, and as he is fed clean (relatively) and not injured what are they gonna say? I WAS right there when he "fell"!
Any how, all's quiet on the Western front again, and I think he wash chagrined enough to realize (if it wasn't dementia) that he can't just get up and go down the stairs to sit in the sun by himself...all he has to do is ask...and apparently it is the one thing he will never do!
I hope everyone is doing ok today and your burden are not too heavy...and you don't need Guido and Slash to come out. Their rates are exorbitant!!!!
I wonder if they will start charging you for those 911 pick up assists? I know one year my aunt got so drunk at a Christmas eve party at another aunts house. She weighs 300+ and was on the floor sloppy drunk. My other aunt did not want her in the house anymore cause it was getting late. Her son took off during all the kaos..b@st@rd. So we had to call 911 and she wanted to know who...I told her it was her sister..lmao. But there was no way we could lift that dead weight...it took both paramedics guys to hoist her away.
Dtflex....yeah your comment about all you do for mommo and it goes unrewarded yet they want more...yeah know that one.
I rented a bedroom to a Guido, however his name was Raul. Mexican. Great guy! When Dad lived here 5 years ago I had 2 men renters. Doug, a cat guy, stayed downstairs with his 5 cats. Super nice man. Raul had an upstairs bedroom. He & Dad hit it off! They'd laugh & joke ... often about me! Sit on the deck for hours telling stories. Joked about my self contained bedroom ... Dad dubbed it the "Old Lady's Chamber". Thanks Sir!
Both were former clients so I knew them. Now I'm ultra cautious about renting a room again. Especially after all the Craig's List crap.
I had one arrogant WACKO guy whom I hired to do work ... He wanted to stay here. Had to have him removed by the cops. He decided he was going to move in & help me! - Creepo City ! Big record for assault & being insane. Glad I have cops around.
Now I read that they are cutting funding on social services. Dang ...
Pirate! Where have you been? How's your battle? Love your story ~ I wish we could create a comic strip for caregivers. The stuff we deal with is so insane it can be funny.

Love & best.
miz, SO glad that you're feeling better!!!
Hmmm iodine probably dyed her skin dark...lol
When Dad lived here 5 years ago I had 2 men renters.
Doug, a cat guy, stayed downstairs with his 5 cats. Super nice man.
Raul had an upstairs bedroom. He & Dad hit it off! They'd laugh & joke ... often about me!
Sit on the deck for hours telling stories.
Joked about my self contained bedroom ... Dad dubbed it the
"Old Lady's Chamber".
Dang ...
Where have you been?
How's your battle?
Love your story ~
I wish we could create a comic strip for caregivers. The stuff we deal with is so insane it can be funny.
I love the Pickle's comic. Anyone else follow it?
