Anyone know someone in television? we could do a reality show, you know, the ridiculus lives of caregivers and their adorably difficult wacky parents. think of the situations they could plop us in and just watch as the hilarity unfolds.
Maybe, Ted? Are you familiar with comic strip "Crankshaft".? Especially "Pickles"?
Several others deal with aging .. in a very human, humorous way. Several daily comics even deal with the darker side. Creativity is a way out of sorrow. Humor helps more.
If you can stand back, look at the silly side of it all, find a way to laugh ~ even at the darkest stuff like we have shared here on this thread ... maybe we can help others. A comic strip is a venue. Work it!
Bobbie has! The lady who started this post almost 5,000 comments since February ...
The fact that we can all comne together here, laugh, cry & vent ... find humor in our desperate lives .... Think about it
Rosella - You have put into words my exact thoughts. How can we all come from so many different places and have the same lives? I can even stand the criticism from my sibs but when my sister gets my dad all worked up, that's when it pushes me over the edge. I've been telling friends that I'm truly considering checking myself into an alcohol rehab or psych unit for the holidays to hide away and not deal with it all. I just don't know if I have the strength to put on a happy face for all of them even for my dad's sake. I know I haven't been posting much lately but have been reading all of your posts. I almost feel silly venting about my issues when I read some of the terrible, terrible things some of you have been through and are still caregivers. But I also recognize the common thread that WE are the caregivers without the support or assistance of anyone else. Friends keep telling me that someday I will be able to look back and see this whole situation differently and I know they are right. But it sure does get hard to remember that when you are completely exhausted, so stressed you have continual stomach issues, you drink too much alcohol just to numb yourself, etc, etc. To all of you - always know that I understand your pain, your joys, your everyday struggle because I experience it with you day in and day out. Hope all are able to get a good night's rest. Love ya
Ted ~ you are so awesome! I think several of us Groosed Out have written to Dr Phi; & Oprah with no response.
Now that Hoarders are a hot topic I'd think our situation would carry more weight! We are a silent Growing majority! Baby Boomers caring for out folks. In silence until I found this thread ...
Few of my neighbors realize my father is living here. They wonder why I rarely leave the house. Quiet gossip ... Am I some kind of reclusive crazy lady now? Nope ... I have a responsibility & he is my father. They can wonder & chatter as much as they like ... But few of them have taken on what we have. I know from the neighborhood gossip. Their parents who have passed, yet never lived in thier homes... the neighbors concerned that they might one day be in my place ... can't imagine it ...
Yep! It's a differnt sense of life ~ one we never imagined happening ... I need to drain my father's dragon (cather) now ... flush piss down the toilet & ensure his tubes are properly connected & functioning ...
Mary, I think Ted and I might agree that my song is not fully transferable to cartoons. I think cartoons would actually take away from the words of the song.
hcarey, yes I finally took tonight's meds just now, several hours late. I'm getting out of the house and going downtown with folks that I feel very comfortable to unwind with. They've heard my song but not with the new verse. My therapist heard it today and said while I've fit the words in with the tune, it would be far more powerful just plainly read.

Family systems therapists understand that there are dynamics in every family which are either healthy or unhealthy according to how healthy the boundaries are, ( and we both not about them not being healthy). All too often, someone becomes the identified patient for everyone to dump their stuff on as an escape from dealing with their own crap because they deem either that person is worthy of it or can take it or for whatever sick reason.
The idea of cartoons with that songs is nauseating. I guess there is not an emotioncom for throwing up?
Kuli, it is sad that we think of going to a psych unit in order to have some rest. Our happy and careless relatives, when they want to have a rest they go to the Bahamas! I am like you and sometimes I wish I get ill so I can go to a hospital and have someone who takes care of me. When I had a kidney stone last year and I went to the hospital for a few hours, I was so well and thanked the nurses 1000 times. But this is a mechanism we should not go into! Crowe, I think it is the third option (.... or for whatever sick reason). (the other two choices imply that they have given us a thought for more than 1 minute)
rip, I'm sure you mean well, but please zip the idea of a comic strip for my song and I can feel Ted shaking in his shoes over the idea. Believe me, there is nothing cartoonable about "Mamas Don't Raise Up Your Boys To Be Substitute Spouses" . nor the parallel universe of "Daddys Don't Raise Up Your Girls To Be Substitute Spouses" as well was the tangential parallel world which I saw with my wife where emotionally my MIL has made my wife a substitute spouse because her hatred of men kept her from having a healthy relationship with any man who was worthy of being her slave. Not all pain can be made into comic humor. For example there are photos of WWII most if not many will never see unless you visit the Yad Vashem's Holocaust History Museum in DC or in Israel. Can't make a comic strip of a line of adults stripped naked in front of a huge ditch of dead bodies in front of their children about to be executed right in front of their children's faces. There's not any humor there only pain.
Funny, my b/f told me tonite he wants me to make an appointment to see my doc. I told him I don't have time - I spend too much time taking my dad to docs. He knows what my life is like and I know he's only worried about me but to think of yet another appointment, another commitment is just toooo much. On a lighter note, my dad's cardiologist suggested my dad get into the heart failure clinic when we saw him Friday. When I asked what was involved with that, he told me my dad would have to come there 2-3 times a week. When I told him that I couldn't possibly get him there that many times a week, he asked if my dad could take a bus. I looked at him and almost said out loud "seriously, seriously, you think this 85 going on 86 year old man could get on a bus and travel 15-20 miles 2-3 times a week, get off the bus and find his way around a university hospital. Not to mention that BECAUSE of the heart failure, his ability to even walk that far is not even reasonable." Instead I said I didn't think that was an option. Tomorrow we see a new cardiologist that will hopefully refer my dad to the local hospital heart failure clinic that we can arrange transportation with the senior center in our town. It never ceases to amaze me how clueless even the docs can be. And I'm a nurse!
Many months ago, we went on a roll on this site connecting or creating names or slightly altering names of movies or TV shows that would make the title of our life. We had a blast!
Kuli: yes, nobody understands! You should have explained to hiim, too, with the same words you used here. I wonder if there is a chance your father gets into that hospital two days a week and he stays there! And they give him all the cure that he needs.
Rip, Crowe! Little misunderstanding! are you alright now? I am not the lawyer of Rip, but she is a very very sensitive person and she knows very well when you can laugh and when you cannot. Only, we have not read your song, we do not know what it is about!
Ted. you have that absurd sense of humour that I like so much
I know that doc only had good intentions of keeping my dad out of the hospital. My dad HATES, HATES, HATES being in the hospital so I am all for this option. But even as a nurse I can no longer manage his meds to keep him out of heart failure and out of the hospital without some help. So I am hoping that the local heart failure clinic will help with this. But, him, on a bus?? Unbelievable
to clear any misunderstanding, my posts were replying to "

hey Crow ~ Have you thought about letting it out in cartoon fashion? I know of a guy named Ted who has graphic skills ... I believe you have his email, as he has your song.
Might just help lots of other people hiding out there ..."
If you have read the thread then you have most likely read the title of the song.
I live in a very difficult country on many points of view. But we have a few very good things here. There is kind of a (free) taxi service, organized and paid by the municipality, A taxi (a big van, actually) who can take onboard 4 or 5 ill people, (plus wheelchairs), takes them to the hospital or day care, and then he takes them back home. That would be the ideal solution for you. Can you find low price a person who drives your dad to the hospital? A student who wants to earn some money, that you trust, of course. - for example
I have something like that here in NC, It's Like a bus service with 4 0r 5 Wheelchair accessable vans, and thay only charge $3 a trip wherever you go, caregivers ride free. You call and make an appt with them or you can set up a regular pick up. I believe it's subsidized by the county health Dept. You Might want to ask around where you are
Good looking bunch of sailors here. Rossella, you won BoatTime!!
Love all you guys and where's Miz and Deef and Flex and SS and and and
Rip the Stitch! More Cat Comedy on the boat. Kitty has figured out how to train me even better than before. She is now getting 2 meals a day because she pitches a fit and doesn't stop until something shows up in her bowl. She also thinks it's funny to pat my butt when I walk by. First attention I've had in months.
This thread has always been about jokes. There are sad things in the world and many sad things have happened to us. Sadness and pain are about perception and how hard it is to make it back after being hurt as badly as many of us have been hurt. You can make it back. takes a lot of work, but you can make it back. Important to remember: everybody hurts, no one person's hurts are 'more' or 'less'. Everybody here has been traumatized one way or the other.
If you want to see Nazi jokes watch Mel Brooks movies. He stated that that was the only way he, as a Jew, could deal with the horror of the Holocaust.
You keep looking for the light there Rip.
Sorry all that shit happened to you Crowe. It was wrong and we feel for ya, just want to make you laugh somehow. the song quite frankly sounds awful but I hope it makes you feel better. I've written some terrible stuff too but it made me feel better just to get it out.
I think Rosella has won a seat on the boat! Maybe even the chance to be the captain. What do you think, Bobbie? Not many people can say they started something that has not only continued for so long but provided so much comfort to so many people. Bobbie, you (and your boat, and your kitty) are AWESOME! So glad you found a kitty to be a co captain for you.
