I talked to Deefer, just now and she has a really cool Massachusetts accent! We both notice how light dialogue seems to have gotten, I think it is hols and stress and the crud...but I still read even if I don't write and I am hoping everyone has a Nice Thanksgiving and safe one too what ever it is like where you are.....Here it is warmed right up...It is 8 degrees out side now.... I hope things are OK with Miz, you are all in my thoughts...
Just got on & found out about Miz's Mom!! I am SO sorry that her Mom is not well & that Miz is having to go through this! She was already feeling so down. When its raining, you don't need the dam to break! Bobbie, please throw her a life line & keep encouraging her for us! Please keep us updated.
Bobbie, I'm so sorry that you've been sick, too! Glad that you're starting to feel better! I'm glad that you're not alone, & that you have Kitty there with you, but wish you were here with us for Thanksgiving! Please KNOW that you're one of the positives in our lives that we're all most thankful for this year & for many to come!!! Wish we could all be there with you to give you a great big hug & thank you in person!!! ((((((((((((BOBBIE))))))))))))...cyber-hug...next best thing to being there!
Hope everybody else is having a blessed evening! Yes, the dark hole is banned!!!
Sorry I haven't been online too much lately. Mom just demanding lots of time.
Bobbie and Rip, I hope you are both feeling better. It seems like I have heard so many people with pneumonia lately. Plus the stomach virus is around too. Take lots of vitamin C and get some rest (yea, I must be delerious).
Miz, I hope your mom will get better soon. I'll keep you both in my prayers. Linda, I hope pa has better days ahead too.
I'm cooking some of my dishes for tomorrow. I am making the sweet potatoes with strusel topping, corn bread dressing and black cherry gelatin salad. We are having dinner at my nephews house.
Austin, enjoy your online "dates". That is how I met my honey. January will be 2 years we have been together.
Take care of yourselves and remember y"all are one of the things I am most thankful for this year. Y'all are truly lifesavers!
know how you feel my husbands grandmother has been using all of our tooth brushes didnt know it at first caught her in the middle of the night god only knows what she does with them but she has dentures and she doesnt clean them everyday like she is suppose to i suggest u buy a new toothbrush and put it under lock and key we have to hide ours in our rooms with the doors locked because she has demenchia and prowls all night best of luck to you
Crow, I know I shouldn't isolate myself and I certainly can't at work but I don't want my depression to affect others either. I do what I can to keep my "game face" at work and home but when I come on here and can be me, I would rather write humor than darkness. I am fighting as hard as I can to crawl back up to the light these days. I don't know why though. Maybe the idea of holidays and being forced to spend time with those who have no time for my dad just brings out the worst in me. Anyway, I hope Miz's mom gets better quick and I plan to focus my thoughts on how grateful I am to have my dad for one more Thanksgiving holiday. He'll be 86 on December 9. Unbelievable that he's gotten this far with the odds so stacked against him. But I truly wish all a wonderful Thanksgiving and hope that it's enjoyable. Love and kisses to my aging care family! xoxoxo
Just put mom in bed for more sleep! Here's wishing you all a safe and happy holiday! Miz, Hoping Mom pulls through for you! Bobbie, wish you had someone with you! Linda, hope Pa has a good appetite today! Ted, A worry free day for you! Crowe, Good thoughts to you! Kuli, Diane, Peach, Rip, Pirate, Maxine and everyone else, Happy Turkey Day!!!! Kathy
Kuli! congrats on another thanksgiving with your dad! A year ago today I made a nice Thanksgiving dinner for Nik and my mom in LA and we started putting up the tree.
No Thanksgiving dinner for me this year. No mama and no Nik and I'm sick and can't have anyone near me so they don't get infected. I have the plague. And only one can of chicken soup left! (looking around for a sandal to boil)
Miz! we're thinking of you and your mom! Linda! how's Pa? is he getting a drumstick? Please take care of yourself cooking and doing for that big family!
I'm too dizzy to think too much. Everybody have a great day and let's check in with each other if you all get the chance.
My dad has Dementia and is an anger white male. He's so nasty to be around. He has meds to even out his moods but won't take them. Here's the gross part (one of them!). His teeth are so bad they are rotting out of his head. He doensn't brush his teeth anymore and never washes his hands. When he gets in the car, I have to roll down the window cause his breath is so bad. Yuck! And when we say, "you really should brush your teeth, dad, " he says, "That's none of your business! I'm retired! I'll do whatever I want." Oh Lord.....
Happy Thanksgiving to all. I'm grateful to have you to talk to here in cyberspace. I've got a turkey in the oven and it's smelling pretty good in here! Hope your day goes well.
The tide is very high and still coming in and the boat is rocking up and down with these very gentle waves.
Cat is roasting her hind end in a sunbeam. The pilothouse doors are open and she just came in from roasting all of her on the foredeck. since falling in she hasn't tried walking the rails again. thank you God.
ssk.... mashed potatoes? i would make the turkey just to get to the gravy!! (I make good gravy; learned from mom)
man, I'm hungry. gonna have to pop open that can of soup!
Happy Thanksgiving ~ may all the family turkeys be pleasant & tolerable.
I'm thankful I don't need to deal with mine. Dad says he'll be surprised if they bother to phone him.
Thanks to you guys ... our understanding online family! This dreaded holiday seasom will be easier for me this year knowing you guys are available & "Get it!" ~
snowing in Seattle! 3" new since 6 AM. Cold spell is supposed to break today, back to rain. I'll miss the silent beauty of the white stuff. Won't miss trying to heat the house. 60F bedroom is a bit cold ...
Selfish, don't let Dad in the car until he brushes! We had the problem of not bathing with my MIL......no bath, no go anywhere. She's lied over the past year, can't figure out the stench would give her away. So when we looked at her and she still looked "greasy" or stank, plans were canceled. Of course now I bathe her simply because she can't. Be very firm about Dad taking his meds, or put them in food if possible. Does Dad live with you? I gave my MIL a bottle of waterless hand cleaner to keep by her kitchen sink.....nevertheless I WILL NOT eat or drink from anything she has...:) MIL says I'm bossy and "meaner than a snake", but she does what she is told. Of course after discussing her nasty attitude with her physician we decided to increase her anti-psychotic med......she's is not a zombie, but she is compliant now. Good luck with Dad and please don't allow yourself to feel bad because you have to be FIRM......Happy Thanksgiving!
Selfish sibling-Does your dad have dentures,my dad got where he couldn't properly clean them himself,so I learned about denture cleaning. What I am concerned with is not stinky breath, but all of the health complications that go with improper cleaning-heart troubles, infections even pnuemonia-particles rotting in the mouth is more serious than just stinky breath.I have never been able to lead a man around by his nose-ring ,men have the tendency of doing the opposite of what we want them to do,you have to let him [think] it was his idea.
I tried to send hugs to all but am running out of time so anyone I missed my wish is the same - for a peaceful, happy day that we can all be thankful for each other and for the wonderful care we provide to our loved ones day in and day out! Love and kisses to all! (Maybe someday we'll have an aging care family Thanksgiving dinner. I'm thinking the boat may not be big enough for that though...) xoxox
We always celabrated my dads birthday on Thanksgiving,I miss him terrably.I'm not as good of a cook as my dad,but I'm giving it my best shot today. We are havin' turnip greens, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoe pie, glazed sweet potatoes, turkey breast,honey-baked ham-bourbon glazed ham, cranberry sauce-yankee-dressing[southern dressing] 2 kinds of rolls, broccoli, cauliflower, fruit salad.I've cooked something for everyone I know won't be here today. The only time my dad drank was on his birthday,so I picked up a bottle of wine for him to drink, which I will knock out.I went and saw the first R rated movie I've seen in 11 years- Colored Girls-it was intense.I hope that the ones of you who have family left appreciate today and spending time with them,as they say none of us know what tomorrow will bring.Gotta go give the cows and donkeys their Thanksgiving feast now.
Happy holiday to everyone. It is pleasant to spend the holidays with people you love. If you can't, does not matter! I spent the 2000 New Year (midnight between Dec. 31st 1999 and January 1st, 2000).... with my ex landlord's horses! Because they were so scared by the noise of firecrackers (you remember what was that night like?) that they needed someone close to them to calm them down. It was not the worst New Year's eve of my life. Any news from Miz? Hi Deefer, you had disappeared for a while!
It was 72 degrees, but ya,ll had to send that storrm down here and now the front is upon us.We yo yo down here on the weather.80 one day-20 the next, not a lot different than northern Florida. After cooking for two days non stop lil Tenny informs me she is not feeling well and has no appetite-left overs for a week---ohhh well......
Good to see from you. This is a hard time of the year for lots of us. I'd do anything for a turkey dinner and some mashed potatoes. (Anything but walk to town; too pooped) I lost my appetite also with this bug I have. Left overs from Thanksgiving are the best.
Hey Rip How you feeling? i'm coughing and hacking and at least the Cat had some turkey dinner in a can. Didn't look that bad but i'm not that nuts yet. gimme minute.
I'd be happy with a 2 piece from KFC.
I told you guys about the time I pulled into a KFC drive through and told the kid I wanted 2 drumsticks, but I wanted them from the same bird. I didn't want 2 lefts or 2 rights..... He was still scratching his head when i pulled around to see the expression on his face. I was laughing so hard, He saw me and knew I was pulling his drumstick.
oh! Our BRAT Bobbie!!! Poor KFC kid! This crud has been hanging on way too long for me! Lots of other people are suffering around here. How it hit Florida ... Computers? Sir would certainly blame it on a computer virus. When they started intergrating computers into Boeing my old timer Dad said: "Pretty soon people are all going to be nothing but eyeballs & butts". That was 30 years ago ...!
Look at gaming kids today ~
He appreciates my computer now just b/c he knows how close we all are. I often report who I'm talking with online & what about. He knows you are friends ~ Sends his best wishes to all!
Best Wishes back to Sir from all of us. brat, indeed.
This just in from Miz: Would you please tell everyone on the thread that i can't get on agingcare or facebook from here and i was too exhausted when i was at home yesterday but that i appreciate them SO MUCH and love them.
Got the sweats again. how long does this thing last Rip?
geez, Bobbie ... I hate to be honest! It's been going on for over 3 weeks! Aching, sore everywhere, especially my throat! Shivers & sweats ~ ah .... NO! Can't be the same thing ... please! wish I could be more positive.
