"i have a stud mule named Smokey and a Arabian mare called Dixie,I was hoping they would fall in love and have babies. Smoke is scared of Dixie,so their romance never took off and NO I'M not helping them out they are on their own."

You sure Smokey ain't loaded with blanks?
While sterile mules aren't nearly as common as some would have us believe ('ol Nitro was a stallion, which was why it was so stupid to try and ride him when he was feelin' a tad bit randy), I'm not sure a mule can breed a horse...at least I've never heard of it.
I guess it would depend on it's particular grab bag of chromosomes (I don't remember which it is, but a horse or jackass, has an extra, X or Y chromosome, which causes most mules as the result of the breeding, to be sterile..somethin' like that), but in the crap shoot of making life, I suppose anything is possible.
I mean think about it, have you really taken a good look of any neighbors you might have recently...boggles my mind sometimes, butt then that's not much of a stretch.

Hey Bob, I did use that don't fall out of a boat thing advice, but as it turned out it, was just some fancy schmancy theory...hmm, and ya know, why I'll climb into a canoe, well that's anybody's guess, but it might be because I can hang on a tad bit better, that and I think I stay closer to the shoreline.
On the other hand, I never said I made any sense, and come to think on it, leaky rowboats are also a hystorical specialty of mine:-)

Pirate - The main difference is that the term ".38 caliber" usually refers to revolvers while ".380 refers to automatic handguns. The 380 is more associated with the 9mm. There is not much difference in the size of the ammo between the 380 and 38. When I was first learning how to shoot I had a little 22 in hand and wasn't paying much attention, pulled the gun up, aimed and pulled the trigger.......dumbass here didn't move my thumb from behind the hammer and got "flybit" OMG that hurts! it hits right between your thumb nail and first knuckle. I learned real fast to keep my thumb parallel to the gun.
At the end of January hubby is taking me to St. Louis for a couple of nights to just "get away"....staying at Harrah's casino. He's a sweetie.....hope the weather will cooperate. Guess I will check on mil and make sure she has woke up and started on her many cups of coffee for the day.

Ohhh, a donkey...might be back to the mixing of different ratios of chromosome thing...or maybe Smokey ain't askin' 'cause he ain't tellin'..or possibly he's saving him self for the right one...then again Arabian's are rather high maintenance and Smokey feels just a wee bit inadequate.
Tell him to be a big time brayer, uhh, player, he's gonna have step up and work on that self esteem!
Hope this helps *SNORT* ;-)

My son was raised around guns and was taught early to respect them and to ALWAYS check to see if they are loaded. His dad kept all guns in a closet with a lock at the top so only he or I could open it. If son wanted one we would get it out, stood right there while he checked to see if it was loaded, then he could have it. He only liked the 22 rifles and they were never loaded. He learned well enough that one day he got one, checked it, put it up and went back 10 min later to get it again and knew to go through the whole routine of checking. He still does that today. His 2 girls KNOW that you don't touch one of Nana or Papa's guns........it means big trouble, but my son has instilled in them to respect guns and Nana puts them up when they come around...:) We live in a rural area, but right on a State road, you just never know who might decide to break a window and help themselves. A few years ago our neighbors were robbed in the afternoon, deputies called me at work to go home and check our house.....nothing was done but who knows? Having ADT is a great deterrent, plus the fact that a lot of people know we are well armed here.
rip----peach confirmed me last night on the fb page...saw it just before I went to bed. And if I don't get up from here and start my day, I'll be here reading for the next 2 hrs. I'm feeling better today and can think about Mom without breaking down. It's a weird feeling knowing I don't need to go into the nursing home....ok so now I have to go have a serious talk with mil....we have told her repeatedly to not go to the mailbox...it is right on the busy 2-lane state highway. she goes to end of drive-way to get her newspaper...only exercise we can get her to do. We have explained how easily she can become a grease spot in the road by going on to the mailbox...I have an alarm on box so I know when mail is delivered and since mail doesn't come until around 2 pm I knew something was up. I called her on the intercom and asked why she did that "oh I've never been there before and I just thought I would see if there was anything left from yesterday". Give me strength! When we moved her here a year ago, you would not believe the MOUNDS of mail I threw away cleaning her house. Her granddaughter's husband helped us and threw out 50 large black trash bags on only one of his trips......after moving her here I saw that she donated money to each and every plea that came in the mail. I still continue to throw junk mail away that comes here for her....we don't want her messing with the mail especially this time of the year with tax info coming in. She would take something and we would never know it has come.......ok no more venting today.....I'm going to take a shower now and make it a positive day.....after I mop the floors...:)

HI, I've been looking up travel sites to make reservations for my sons to visit when it's cheapest to fly. Maybe in early May, I think southwest airlines is ok. Miz, I boggie boarded in san diego too, while visiting my sons. Went to the san diego zoo, sea world, temecula wine tasting, Jullian, a town in the mountains. My son likes to go to the desert and jump over sand dunes with his dirtbike. I still worry about it and he's now 31 yo! "make sure you wear your helmet, son" "mom, I'm a grown man!" CA is such a big state. I'd like to go back and do some more exploring some day. The mule talk is interesting. A different world out there compared to living on the coast. More open space, more land. Ive got ducks and gees out front, don't shoot em !
like a lot of us, wish i was on bobbie's boat for the new year's "bash",,we would probably get drunk and disorderly and be kicked out off the dock.

Oh yeeaaah, now that's a plan, safety first, that's almost my motto!
I once lived in southern Indiana, in Madison, right on the Ohio River, in an old shanty boat, that was dragged up and then set into the hill back in the 1920's...now that's my kind of boat!
Lived on the Cumberland River in a little cabin, just a few mile from Tennessee border too, and now I'm on the Licking River, so I'm pretty much an old river rat...okay, so I can't swim so much, but I sure can catch & fry up some serious heapin' helpin's o' deeelicious Catfish with my own special green onion Hushpuppies (Mmm mmmm, but now I'm just braggin'), so what's the big deal about swimmin' anyway, I mean ask a Catfish, I've never seen one swim out of my fryin' pan is what I'm thinkin'.
Crispy, and quite tasty, food for thought.

crap i posted a whole nice long post and it never posted...harumpf...now have to remember what I posted.

Jam, thanks for the clarification on the 38 vs 380. My old b/f did let me try a 9mm but did not like it it was old and the b's would get stuck and it freaked me out, so never liked an auto...like the slow revolv. better. (hmm maybe did not post due to this talk). So the snappies attack your chi? Wow usually chi's have so much piss and vineagar all on their own. LOL.

Miz - why you stressed? Hugs big hugs. I wish we could all be together in a big country home kitchen on this New Year's eve morning. I would make some good strong vanilla hazelnut creme coffee and scrambled eggs and sausage and belgian wafflies!

Pat - sorry I scorned you when you came in, I thought you were jumping on us. People don't get this blog that is wonderfully stuck in the middle of the aging care website. I thought mules were sterile? This past county fair they had a burro and a horse at the land management of CA they have an adoption program for all the critters left in the dessert from the old days that were abandoned and they kept breeding. So now instead of them being put down or starving they have an adoption program. We loved the little burro (donkey?) the horse was jealous can we spent more time with the burro. If I lived in more of a rural part of CA I would have some animals. I just love animals and nature it has always made me feel good and mellows me out. People are so frustrating but animals even though they can be pesky are still not as frustrating as humans can be. That's why I love my 'free pets' I call them..the crows, birds, squirrels and the occasional oppossum. I know something is coming into my mom's yard at night, have not figured out what it is, not a squirrel they are not nocturnal. It is either a opossum, or a skunk or a raccoon. Those are the only critters that could climb and are in the south bay area. I know I have left out food late at night on top of the garbage pan intended for the crows but by sundown if the crows did not eat it I notice it is gone in the morning well it's either early crows or something that is coming into the yard. I have found poops like cat poops. I found one pile that had a ton of hair in it...could have been oppossum fur. hmmm one of these days will find out what it is.

"Looking for a small minature mare for him that pulls a cart."

There's a fella up the road that breeds miniature horses, or did when I moved here at any rate, if you'd like I can get his number from his plumbing business.
I use to know of a place in Indiana that bred them too, called Little King Farms if I recall correctly.
I don't know if they're still in business, but they were a pretty big deal in the mini horse biz at one time...more like itty bitty show horses I think, probably too prima donna like, to do lowly blue collar workin' stiff pony work, pullin' carts.

Well folks gotta sign off and call mommy dearest and start getting ready to go over there. I hope she does not have a poopie butt! They were making cocktail meatballs on the morning show...hmmm maybe I will make some since b/f will be coming over around noonish. Like I mentioned before making New Year's eve dinner of Tri Tip, vege dish and potater dish...and some cheesecake for dessert. Oh and plus wine and champagne later..oh yes! Hopefully mom will eat some dinner and not say NO! But I think when the smell goes through the house it will make her hungry. Not asking her anymore just going to plop down a plate of very finely cut food....they should make a device you could put meat into and it cut it up fine for you...could be used for kiddies and old folks!

tenn you be careful on that weather...they were just showing on the morning east coast news show that some horrible blizzard is in the mid of the country. It was really cold here in CA...had heater at 72 last night and it wa still cold in the house. Even on the east coast news shows they were mentioning the east coast is nice and the weather here is cold...go figure eh?

Signing off for the year of 2010...9:00 am Dec 31

Happy New Year to ALL!

Aww no worries, I never thought that :-)
I really just jumped in on something that popped up on some page I was checking out, and really had no idea this was like a blog/forum/board/group whatever kinda thing.
Trust me, I know how I come off sometimes, and I am an ongoing project in this virtual world.
I'm very thankful it's here, or I would probably have already gone insane since my real world has gotten quite considerably smaller, as I'm sure many on here can understand.
And to think, I use to crave solitude from the masses, but interaction with a variety of thinking breathing human beings, is more important than I thought possible.

Now I'm certainly glad I took the time to keep reading this joint!
Y'all folks seem pretty cool & groovy, and I've learned so much useful stuff that I didn't even have a clue I should know already.
Albeit some of it's scarin' the ever lovin' beejeezus outta me!
Ignorance sure can be bliss, but I've always been more of a Boy Scout.
About tryin' to always be prepared that is, um, they threw me out of the Boy Scouts..I wouldn't wear that jack booted thug/Sound of Music lookin' uniform ;-)

My hope is that I can contribute something.
Now I don't know as if I can, but ya just never know, and I've been known to surprise myself on the rare occasion....okay, so that Leisure Suit and platform shoes surprisey thing didn't work out so swell, but I was young and impetuous, not to mention that Becky chick that like 'em so much, was pretty daggum smmmokin'!

Tennys ~ Did you notice the Funny Farm has a Mommoth Donkey named Smokey? ...sad news .. checked theor website & they're no longer open to the public. Loosing baby Gracie Roo was a real hit for them.

A couple months ago I received a "Help!" email where a Canadian breeder dumbed a couple dozen Icelandic Horses/Ponies in a lot in Toppenish, WA. They were seeking adoptive homes. Everything I've heard about the breed is amazing!
I thought of you when I read it ...

Pat ~
Hope your glad you hit that unknown place on the vast internet.
I'd love a history how everyone found this specific thread. I remember the frustration one Saturday, sunny summer aternoon, mourning my beloved Husky who was losing his battle with cancer ... trapped home b/c of Sir's imending UTIs, whether his catheter was flowing or plugged ... wondering if his meal would come shooting out ...
I think I wrote something about the years my life has been controlled by my father's digestive system ...

that was late June. I was more alone than I'd ever been - thats saying volumes for a fairly independent lady. I took a chance to comment on something.

Pirate, our Pirate, raised a curious point last night as only she can. Something about copyrighting, etc.
I need to clear my bittersweet eyes & drain Sir's Dragon.
