Gee whiz, kinda leaves me out, I mean I'm actually considered by most that know me as rather crabby, and as for the rest, well it's pretty much standard equipment.

Nah, no trips to Vegas for theses cool cats, a trip to an Indiana riverboat was plenty.
Though I have been to Vegas, I was surprised how much I liked it, at least back in the 90's...last time was in 2000 I think it was.
Nit much of a gambler really, though I do like a good game of poker on the occasion.
No, back in those days I'd run out of gambling money, in say two or three hours, and then it was onto good ol' fashioned American 24/7 drinkin' & debauchery, not to mention the high quality (and some not so much) buffet gorge fests.
I was even offered a bartending gig there once, at a verrry cooly sleazy joint called The Atomic Liquor Store, that often I wish I'd had taken.
And no, I don't think they had penny slots in these Indiana casinos.
Not that it would have mattered, Mama would have climbed my tree, then loudly proclaimed me to be an awful son, the worlds biggest cheapskate, and probably tell everybody in spittin' distance I was adopted :-) .
Well it's time to make oatmeal...banana walnut with raisins, dates, and a heap o' brown sugar...the long cookin' oats...I let her believe I make it special just for her, truth is, I just really dig the stuff ;-)
Hope everyone has a wonderfulliciously funtastic day!

Bartender!...before I go, a round of rubber chicken for all of my friends if you would please my good man...oh yes, and get yourself a little something, your service has been most eggceptional!
(did I just perchance hear a groan..yeah okay, I guess the yolks on me *snort* I kill myself sometimes HA!)

good morning, I'm becoming a hoarder. I just look at all of the stuff and don't want to get rid of it. Part of the reason I don't invite people over to visit is that I am embarrased about my house. When we leave they can pull up a dumster and load it up. Instead of either throwing stuff away or donating it, I get another plastic container and store it for later (which never arrives) Maybe I'll get motivated to go through some stuff one of these days. It would give me a project.
sorry to hear about the hurler in FL.

If I find stuff for the boat while I'm cleaning, I'll load it into a plastic container. I have a mask and snorkel and the kayak, but those are keepers. I'm going to bring them when I come for a BOAT visit. What do you need for the boat? I'm going to get ready for the day, as the HHA (home health aid) is due here in a while.

Angela.......welcome!!!!!!! And good morning to all........I was being a sleepyhead last night, since col went to bed early so did I for a change. Slept about 10 hours and it felt so good. Angela I also care for my mil but you will see me use col (crazy old lady) all in affection of course. She is in her own home attached to our home and I spend my days running up and down the stairs. She has dementia, will do things for herself, but has had a developing cold for the last couple of days and has let me fetch and carry for her. Don't want that to become a habit! We try to make her get up and do things for herself, keep her mind and body active, she doesn't do anything except read the daily newspaper and whine to go "shoppy-shoppy"....now if I can just get her to change her soaking wet diapers...................vent away I did, and still do, when I fell into this site and it has been a lifeline for me....have read so many new friends. I have no one to vent to except here, am retired from 25 yr in ems, family are all a**holes, except my wonderful son and his wife and 2 girls, hubby is er doc but he doesn't want to hear what a turd his mother can be, he knows :) So vent, cry, yell, ask questions, make comments.....and make some BOAT time....thanks to our capt bobbie....................

when they make those noises get up and leave.....I cannot stand to be around the col while she is eating. Half the time she eats while sitting on the couch and a lot of it ends up on her front....she has a dog she calls her "binky baby" and has let him grab food off her plate!!! When in a restaurant she likes to play peek-a-boo with her napkin and when she gets up a lot of food is stuck to her lap and how it gets around to her butt I have yet to figure out!!!!!!

Took the trash out a little bit ago. It is so freakin' cold!! Florida is calling my name!! I'm so tired. Got to sleep late and woke up early. Probably take a siesta later today. And, my Illini basketball team plays this afternoon. I'm trying to get chores done this morning. 5 Hour Energy maybe?? I've tried that before and sometimes it makes me jittery or seems to have no affect at all. Has anyone else tried that? It would seem to be the care givers dream. Okay, more later.

thinking about taking the dinghy out again today.
Warm it all up so when Miz comes we can zoom zoom.
right Linda? give your pa a kiss for me and thank you for the hug!

GP! how you feeling today? get that rice yet??

ssk! come across any single and double cotton sheets you don't want? Pillowcases? Love old soft cotton sheets and we have 3 bedrooms on the boat.
got plenty of towels and washrags.
got a bowthruster in there somewhere? One that preferably goes both ways? I already had one that only went one way....
There's an electric motor that the Smithsonian wanted back.

Ssk, I feel the same way. My house is full of stuff that needs to be gotten rid of. Do a little here and there, but always seem to walk away from it. Someday my house will be organized, but for now....
Angela, welcome! My mom has PD and dementia. Lots of gross stories here! Wheelchair bound and mostly incontinent both ways.A couple weeks ago I left her for a few minutes to eat her supper. When I checked on her, she had cleaned the toaster oven, inside and out, with her mashed potatoes and hamburger. It's impossible to leave the table when she eats! I always come back to find a mess! This morning she spooned her oatmeal onto her napkin and was stirring it!. Pretty much have to have a constant eye on her.
Still below zero here! Got to go run errands when Merry gets here. Really don't want to go out!
Morning Jam!!! and Bobbie, and Miz and.......

Cuz - OMG that tazer story was just too too funny. Thanks for starting my Saturday with a laugh. Welcome to the new members - you will never find a better group of people- caregivers that care for each other as much as they care for their loved ones. Dad is still sleeping off the sedation from his procedure yesterday. He is a little confused why he has pain where his incision is, poor guy. I'm glad he was able to come home yesterday or he really would be confused today. Off to clean and disinfect catheter bags. Hope all have a wonderful Saturday if I don't get back here today. Hugs and kisses, Kuli

col feeling better today but is in bitch mode........God give me the strength not to drown her during her bath. Stood right behind her and yelled her name....nothing....walked around in front of her and said don't you think we ought to change our batteries? Oh no, they're fine....oh really? and what are those chunks you keep pushing out of your mouth....Snickers? think we ought to go brush our teeth? no we use toothpaste not rinse to brush with. let's change our wet drawers now.....but oh please here, let me wipe up the floor first where you let your dog PEE ALL OVER THE FLOOR, because it's too cold for binky baby to be outside. And if you tell me one more time that your doggie would never pee on the floor, I might strangle you. So now she's sitting on potty struggling with what I know is her strapless bra....the whole damn thing is down around her waist! I tried to get her to take it off and got my head snapped off for that one....so wear it old woman! Knew she was up at midnight eating oatmeal, hubby and his strange wake/sleep habits keep me informed, snapped at me that she ate when it was light out.....so put nasty laundry in her washer and walked out. If she feels well enough to be bitchy she can wait for me to check on her much later. Turn the camera on and watch her try to figure out how the sink got filled with soapy water and the dishes are in it........:) Going to eat my Activia now and take my Valium and I should be good to go for a while. Hugz to all.............

I think you are right on Angela! Cripes, you have been thru alot!
Now a servant for a demanding picky self appointed queen?
Ouch!
Are there any of those fancy senior places near you? My dad was reluctent to move from his grand home after we lost Mom. After a bad illness I convinced him to try an apartment in the nearby "luxury" senior residence.

It took a while but it worked great for several years. He still drove so they'd gang up & go out to restaurants & bitch with each other.
Well, they'd complain daily about the "Fine dining" food served in the dining rooms, the wine selection available, laundry facilities, lousy maids, the exercise equipment, staff ... you get the picture.

Took the whining load off me & was fun to hear many of the stories. i still miss seeing some of the other "inmates" when I'd visit with the dogs.

Many of the place offer trial stays in guest suite which might 'encourage' her ...

Oh Jam, I hear you and you know I was there.
I went through a lot of crabbiness(!) with mom while we both got used to what was coming.
After awhile my mom loved getting the treatment with the shower and hair done while wrapped in towel on hopper.
In the long run it was easier. Less time and energy spent by just putting her on the pot, getting that routine down. Her attitude improved and she got used to it.
At the end of the day I was less frustrated and had less stressful moments and mom was way happier.
routine really works for dementia patients and it can help the caregiver too.
I know it sux. please trust me I know.
If you saw the way mom had treated me and talked to me you would think that it would have been impossible!
Everybody's Dementia is different that's for sure.
You are a good daughter in law and I hope your husband gives you a big fat hug and kiss from us.

I sure have crabs on the mind.
funny looking word.

Did I ever tell you guys about the time I did a 'Man on the Street' style interview with mom using the business end of a douche bag as a mic.
Caught her unawares in the bathroom.
Asked her how she liked the service in this hotel.
She covered all the departments, gave it a decent rating overall and mentioned a few things that could use improvement.
I should have taped it.
I would so love to see that again.

Ya, what Rip said.
In the long run I think that that is the real issue.
I had to put my mom in respite when I did because it was going to kill me.
I totally get it. We drove that train almost all the way into the station and I couldn't pick her up anymore.
Back is still shot.

It was mealtime during an airline flight.

'Would you like dinner?', the flight attendant asked John, seated in front..

'What are my choices?' John asked.

'Yes or no,' she replied.

SMART ASS ANSWER #4

he opened his trench coat and flashed her.

Without missing a beat, she said, 'Sir, I need to see your ticket, not
your stub.'

AdBrooks!
I bet she has Dementia.
I ain't no doc but that's the front end of the behavior that we notice.
We as caregivers get sucked into the vortex.
See if she'll draw you a clock. Round with the numbers in the right spots.
You need to see a doc too because Namenda and Aricept do work and she may be able to care for herself longer.
Not bathing and stinky is one of the first signs that someone else sees.
It's awful and I am so sorry and as exhausted as you are, I am so sorry.
The people with dementia are demented. Sick.

we're going to be here for you and I don't say that lightly.
