It was a good month before my brain caught up with the new normal - I kept thinking I needed to see about Mom - my husband did too. They say it takes 3 weeks to form or break a habit.
Do be careful about letting strangers know you live alone. (thats the cop/mom in me worrying). When I was a single Mom I always told workers and such that came to the house that my brother was a cop and he often stayed over.
16 posts to 20.000... A milestone. Who's gonna get it? Not me because I am posting again tonight. I am always happy to hear your stories and see that sense of humor and smartness don't get lost in this every-day ordeal! I hope you are reasonably well in all this mess and you keep safe. I know that when this will be over, in one year, 3 years, 10 years I will do "pfff" like a baloon which has been inflated for a too long time! Tks for your hints for Criminal Minds... Very creepy episode. Have a nice wake up and day!
Ok, ladies. I'm in on the boat ride. Hawii sounds good. I didn't notice, did anyone think about music? I can't plan an instument any more, but I can still hold a note. How about a quartet?
Christina the lady at the care center might have been wanting to help you she may have been where you are now-most of the time I was able to leave my husband for a little while and just getting an ice cream seemed like haven. I try not to let people know I live alone when someone calls and asks to speak to my husband I say he can't come to the phone-he died over 2 yrs ago.
Kuli, I think that is wonderful dad was checking in to make sure everything was ok. There are so many theories & faith based beliefs about the afterlife that I've come to think maybe there's a little truth in them all. I do feel there is some "connection" between the present and the afterlife. My dad has been gone 20 years and I still think of him daily in one way or another.
Christina, I didn't mean to come off as preaching but rather sharing the info I had just heard. I hope you can find that "balance" that you feel comfortable with. Some people deal with bad situations by denial and can go about life and forget the person in the NH. But like me, you are a person with a sense of responsibility that won't allow us to just disappear.
Carolyn, stick with us and we will help you stay sane or we will all go crazy togehter!
Mom is doing a slight bit better today. I'm pushing liquids like crazy. That is until she gets pissed off and says no more. If she will let me leavbe her today I will run some errands while the caregiver is here.
Cricket, I have a recipe to post but I have to find it first! It's actually a vegetarian recipe that is soooo yummy.
Morning Friends, I have been up since 3:15 am. I'm watching "The Relic" and it is pretty gory. Good go see you, Kuli:) it is interesting how energy changes forms and we know who or what we are experiencing. When I was little, a lady in along white gown would pace back and forth in my room from the bed to the door and back. She was illuminated. Sometimes in my sleep I would sense her and reach my arm up to her, but I never felt anything. I asked my sister--8 1/2 years older--why she was standing on the side of my bed, looking at me the night before. She gave me a look and said it wasn't her. I was frightened and worse, no one to talk to, so I blocked it from then on. In my 30s I met a woman who told me this spirit was sent to comfort me since I was so isolated from my family. When Mother says she 'sees someone, I am pretty sure it is random snapshots firing off in her brain. But perhaps one day those images will be giving her comfort as she transitions. I pray about that for her, because she is SO afraid of death. I guess that is another reason I am in this family. When my girl cousin passed 2 years ago, one morning I woke up and there was a bird flitting around outside the window. It was looking at me and immediately I knew it was a message from Jeannie. You just know, right? Sometimes it's just a bird, but this time it was her. I found dimes after my brother passed. First time, a handful of them on the floor on my car behind the drivers seat. Since 2003, I find them at opportune times, when I have been contemplating a decision. Almost immediately a dime appears wherever I may be, and I know what I must do. I do not go around looking for dimes, and never has it been explained any other way. Oh boy, I'm glad we can say anything here and there is interest and no judgment. I believe the appearances are a message to us that yes, they are different now, but they are with us. At least it comforts us as we cannot yet comprehend life fully without physical proof. Sorry this is so long. It is freezing this morning. Well, relatively speaking. Have a good day. I'm ready to go back to sleep now. What is it about waking up at 3:15? Hugs, xo
Diane, I did not take anything you said as bossy. Don't worry about things like that. I'm your friend:) not a relative. Haha! WhooHoo! TG, huh? Ok: where is Miz? SelfishSiblings? Rip, LindaHeart, ANN?! Hello? Maybe Ann ran away from home. Check in, Sistas! Love you! Christina xo
Carolyn, I'm so glad you've joined us here! You are a delight.
Barb, the cop Mom is often referred to as the Helicopter Mom (Hovering) and I tend to be like that with my friends to so everyone forgive me if at times I get to be to much. . o.O xxoo
Diane, I can't wait to get that recipe because I'm trying to eat more veggies and less meats these days.
Jen, I love your "balance" statement, you crack me up! It's good to see you posting :)
I just want everyone to know that I talked to Ann and she's behind with keeping up with all the posts here and a bit stressed out about it (like we all get at times). She is not doing to good right now and frankly her poor body is "beat up" from trying to do it all for her Mom :( She is struggling with the possibility of NH out of survival for both her Mom and her. As it is right now if her Mom falls she has to call 911 because she is physically unable to lift her. It's a heartbreaking dilemma. I think she could use a few extra hugs myself. Hint Hint :)
Btw, Stress eaters.. I copied and pasted some really interesting information from the Constant Cravings book over at the Nutrition thread and how I learned a lesson from this information by seeing how it applied to myself. Humbling.
I would love to talk more with everyone but I need to get busy here on the home front. I'll be back throughout the day as I pace myself with breaks. Love you all, Cricket "Chirp Chirp"
Christine, right after I posted I saw your post and have to comment before taking off to do the dishes. I found your post very interesting and I also have had similar experiences since my sister died many years ago. I know they might sound strange but it is strange to us in all our lack of knowledge of the life beyond. What I am trying to say is strange doesn't make it crazy or wrong, just unknown. Had to say that! XXXOOO Chirp!
Russ and Sam, two friends, meet in the park every day to feed the pigeons, watch the squirrels and discuss world problems.
One day Russ didn't show up. Sam didn't think much about it and figured maybe he had a cold or something.. But after Russ hadn't shown up for a week or so, Sam really got worried. However, since the only time they ever got together was at the park, Sam didn't know where Russ lived, so he was unable to find out what had happened to him.
A month had passed, and Sam figured he had seen the last of Russ, but one day, Sam approached the park and.. lo and behold!.. there sat Russ! Sam was very excited and happy to see him and told him so. Then he said, 'For crying out loud Russ, what in the world happened to you?'
Russ replied, 'I have been in jail.'
'Jail!' cried Sam. What in the world for?'
'Well,' Russ said, 'you know Sue, that cute little blonde waitress at the coffee shop where I sometimes go?'
'Yeah,' said Sam, 'I remember her. What about her?
'Well, one day she filed rape charges against me; and, at 89 years old, I was so proud that when I got into court, I pleaded 'guilty'.
I have always been fascinated by stories of the supernatural...the good stuff not the spooky stuff.
Maybe sinse I am open-minded about it, I have had so many experiences that just can not be explained away.
Here's another one: When I was in HS I thought about becoming a clothing designer. I begged my parents for a sewing machine. My Dad thought I would lose interest and the machine would gather dust. This went on for awhile.
Finally, my Mom had enough of our "discussions" and just went out and bought me a nice little machine set in a cabinet. And I did study fashion design in my early college years and used it a lot.
Fast forward a few years later after my Dad had passed. I was home from college. I was on the floor, dusting around my sewing machine and accidently placed my hand on the foot pedal and the machine started whirring away. Then, I glanced over at the electrical cord and noticed that it was not plugged in!
I ran out of the room so fast and swore that I could hear my Dad laughing. He always had a quirky sense of humor!
Do not think twice about call 911 to pick someone up -I had to call them over 50 times sometimes 3 times in one week and the firemen cops parimedics and emt's never got upset with me-there was no way for me to get him up when he fell.
Cricket, I do not think any of us are crazy. I know I am sane and have always been. I have often thought I was a functional misfit. Sometimes I am too honest or blunt, and maybe that is a fault. I have nothing to hide, bu maybe someone else does. Do whistle blowers make good money? I don't think so:) My husband often says to me, "oh, you CAN'T say THAT!!" that's where my naïveté comes in, like I missed something subtle, or really, it's that I cannot tolerate sham and pretense and passive aggressive stuff. I think I have a good bs detector.
Christina, me to except for when I am BS'ng myself, sighs... isn't it so much easier to see the BS in others! LOL Thank goodness I am my biggest project so I leave my friends alone. I think and say what I am thinking far more than I don't and feel like my true friends will respect that about me. But that's not when being like this is a problem, it's when we really aren't that close to the other person or what they are saying. Know what I mean Jellybean?
Yes, I understand. Sometimes we assume we can say something and we should not. One more thing I wonder if anyone has experienced regarding "unknowns": I was in the kitchen last time this happened, home alone, and suddenly I heard someone call my name. "Chris!" It sounded like it was in the other room. I answered, "yes?" , walked in the other room, looked outside, no tvs on. Then I listened and I knew I was totally alone. Weird. Who was it? I started paying attention to whatever! haha
i have had alot of those expericances too . since i was a small child . i still can not figure out who it was or what that was all about . i have a bunch to tell but rather not meow about it . did 2 ricks of wood and feelin chest pain , had em over 2 weeks now , think t oo much caffine ? no pepsi for me a week and i started slurpin some and bam chest pains , ah i ll have a beer now im sleepy pooie . i best get a nap in me so i can babysit mygrandkids tnite . love you all !! and for the spirits loomin ya shall not be afraid . someone passin by is telling you know theyre here and watching over us for a good reasons . i welcome the good spirits anytime . some thinks im crazy and some believes it cuz they too have expericance it , i fel bad for the ones that has never exeprinace it cuz theyre not speical . we re speical and we feel it and know it . god lord mary of all gods are letting us know . once i heard a voice tellin me to slow down and felt my foot offthe gas pedal and lord behold a semi in front of me lost its big ole machine off his trailer and laded on the road , big fire spark boom , my heart jump in mythroat thinkin if i had injgore that voice that thing would have landed on my car with me and my daughter and a boy i babysat for in it . yep i honesltly believe it ,,,,, been there and saw it all . gonna get a nap now . xoxox
Just back from a winderful day OUTSIDE. We went cemetery photographing again today and without the snow were wildly successful! Stopped at the Cozy in Thurmont which is famous for its catering Camp David and it was the best restaurant expereince I've had in a long time . So - a good day overall. Hope ya'll are having one as well. Love you guys
When my kids were little, we gathered with their aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc. at my dining room table. My youngest brother, Bob, was 30 and I was 39 when this occurred.
Because of the age difference, I was often liks "little mom" to Bob. I tucked him into bed, bathed him, read him stories and tickeled him a lot!
When Bob was 30 he committed suicide. It was heartbreaking for all of us. Long story short, I received a number of sympathy cards which I placed in the dining room on a book shelf.
For days, I'd pass the cards on the shelf and when I'd walk from the kitchen back into the dining room, they'd all fall off the shelf. I replaced them time and time again. After a few days I was really tired of this and was checking for drafts in the room, etc. I could find no reason they should all fall off the shelf that way.
A week after Bob's funeral I came from the kitchen after dinner and as I did, all but one of the cards fell. "Ok, Bob, you think your funny!" I said, "I don't want to play this game any more".
The last card came down. Feeling annoyed, I repositioned them all and they never fell again.
After my first husband died and I cried and cried this one day because I was grieving really bad then later that night when I was in bed almost asleep I was woke up by him whispering my name in my ear.
That is precious, cricket. I've heard from my brother a lot, but only one time from my Dad. It was very weak and I sensed it was difficult for him to do it, but he made the effort, just for me:) I understand.
Ladies - this was shared by a friend and i share it with you. Share it with EVERYBODY!!!
STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Letters of STROKE - S T R If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.
STROKE IDENTIFICATION: During a party, a friend stumbled and took a fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call ambulance)
They got her cleaned up and a new plate of food - while she appeared shaken up, she enjoyed herself the rest of the evening. Her husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital and had died.
She had suffered a stroke at the party . Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps she would be alive today.
Some stroke vistims don't die. They end up in a helpless condition instead.
It only takes a minute to read this...
STROKE IDENTIFICATION: A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke - totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Remember the '3' steps, STR Read and Learn! Symptoms of a stroke can be difficult to identify.
Now doctors say we can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions :
S - SMILE. Ask the person to SMILE. Is the smile normal?
T - TALK. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) such as "It is a lovely party" or "Bobby has a beautiful boat".
R - Ask the person to RAISE BOTH ARMS .
If the person has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 911 and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. Get help quickly. If in doubt - check it out!
Another 'sign' of a stroke is 1. Ask the person to stick out their tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked' - if it goes to one side or the other - this is also a sign of a stroke.
Remember S T R for STROKE. Put it on your fridge. Tell your friends, Share this post!
cg: that is such a sweet story. In my belief system, we never lose a loved one and I do think they drop in whenever we are having a particularly bad time grieving. Sounds as if Bob had a good sense of humor.
And if you can take one more story before the end of the evening....
When one of my Mother's older sisters passed, it was such a blow to us all. She was the first sister from Mom's family who had died and we were all stunned by how sudden it was.
About one month later, I visited home and was asleep in my bedroom with the door open.
I heard a sound like the wind blowing but it was a calm night. I turned over in bed and looked toward the door. In the doorway was a much younger version of my aunt. She was dressed in the old-timey nurses uniform with the white cap and stockings. She leaned against the door frame and just kept looking my way. Abover her head were these wispy, gauzy, apparitions flying in a circle above her head and circling in the room.
In my head, I thought I was dreaming. But my eyes were wide open and by that time, I was sitting up in bed.
To this day, I do not know what it all meant and I still question if it was really just a very vivid waking dream.
Mariesmom Thank you for the information on strokes -you may very well save lives with this-passing it on to others. Two of my neighbors who got speedy treatment after strokes are both doing well now.
The best election commentary I've heard so far......
.'I haven't left my house in days. I watch the news channels incessantly. All the news stories are about the election; All the commercials are for Viagra and Cialis. Election - erection - election - erection - - - either way we're getting screwed!' -- Bette Midler.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I feel bad that I got so freaked out the other day and hope dad continues to visit. Not because he's worried about me but just to say hi from time to time. My dad talked to and appeared to see several relatives and friends who are deceased in the weeks before he died. Some call this near death awareness. The day he died he started saying, mom, mom so I asked if he could see his mom. He said yep, she's about 50 feet away. I asked if she was smiling and he said yep. I said she was probably happy to see him since it had been so long and she probably wanted to give him a big hug. I asked if anyone else was there and he said nope, not right now. It made me feel better that his mom was coming to help him through his transition. Hope it made it less scary for him. Me - I'm feeling like crap. Glad I didn't get sick before this so I could be there for dad but knew the multiple sleepless nights in the past month or so would catch up with me and it has in a big way. Wishes for peaceful sleep for all ~ Kuli
Kuli: so good to see you. It takes so long to recover from the death of a loved one. When you are their direct caregiver, it is even harder. I did not know that your dad had these moments of connection to his loved ones before he passed. I am sure there are those who would brush this off as a by-product of illness or the brain shutting down. I think the evidence is too compelling to ignore.
Whatever your beliefs, it is nice to know that there may be someone waiting to help us cross the bridge when our time comes.
Sounds like you have a bad case of exhaustion. I hope you get lots of rest and let the recuperation take its course.
It makes me feel good that people who have lost the family member they cared for are kind enough to stick around and help those of us who are still on the journey.
Peace and restful sleep to all here as well as our loved ones...

I would love to talk more with everyone but I need to get busy here on the home front. I'll be back throughout the day as I pace myself with breaks. Love you all, Cricket "Chirp Chirp"
'The judge gave me 30 days for perjury
Maybe sinse I am open-minded about it, I have had so many experiences that just can not be explained away.
Here's another one:
When I was in HS I thought about becoming a clothing designer.
Austin, thanks for sharing that about making the 911 calls.
pretense and passive aggressive stuff. I think I have a good bs detector.
Weird. Who was it? I started paying attention to whatever! haha

STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Letters of STROKE - S T R
If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.
STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a party, a friend stumbled and took a fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call ambulance)
STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke - totally.
Another 'sign' of a stroke is
1. Ask the person to stick out their tongue.
If the tongue is 'crooked' - if it goes to one side or the other - this is also a sign of a stroke.
Remember S T R for STROKE. Put it on your fridge. Tell your friends, Share this post!
To this day, I do not know what it all meant and I still question if it was really just a very vivid waking dream.
.'I haven't left my house in days.
I watch the news channels incessantly.
All the news stories are about the election;
All the commercials are for Viagra and Cialis.
Election - erection - election - erection
- - - either way we're getting screwed!' -- Bette Midler.
