Find Care & Housing
Hey meanwhile2 sounds wonderful. I grew up on a farm and my favorite thing was waking up early to take care of the animals before school. Didn't enjoy moving pipe as much though. I also wish I knew how people can make money. Oh well, you do what you can I guess. You take care of yourself and good luck with the work.

Good morning. California cold today. Take care of yourselves out there. MsM, hope hubby is not sore today. Falling is scary. Probably my biggest fear, don't have many. Going directly to recipes now, or I won't get it done. Today is 70th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, 1st anniversary of not seeing my son. I think it's my year anniversary here, too. One has nothing to do with the other. Being here makes the other one and life in general easier to handle. Thinking of you all. Love and hugs, and Many Thanks to our Captain. Christina xo

Hi everyone, cool and rainy here. Mama was all perked up last week and back down today...you know the drill... I just feel wasted for some reason. Every time I have all my kids and grands over it takes me days to get over it.

I hope you all have a tolerable day today, even a good one if possible.

Love to you all,
Ann

I have changed my icon because I have lost today the cat (Nino) who was on the photo. I haven't killed him - lately I have to point out. He died for a disease. The feather of the icon is the feather of Forrest Gump! One of my favorite movies of all time. I have to finish the eternal translation which has kept me busy for the last week - 2 hours, 120 minutes of overlapped dialogue - I mean there were always 5 characters speaking in the same time, and I had to translate them all. A beautiful film but an enormous work! See you tonight

Late morning all - and again thank you for all your suggestions.

**A quick note - I have been receiving a good deal of Happy Holidays material from folks involved with Moms care and her death. Hospice, the funeral home, the cemetery, even the newspaper where her obit ran. It can be emotionally wrenching - so be aware of this as you innocently look through your mail.

The problem with entry level jobs - either for myself or my husband - is that across the board, people with a high level of education and people who have worked executive level jobs are not even considered. We get it. The few times I was lucky enough to get one of these jobs (a receptionist, a 911 operator during the Atlanta Olympic games) it was an unpleasant experience...

And the city and county jobs - as in police dispatcher - are a whole 'nother animal. I jumped through 6 months of hurdles before coming in 2nd for the Director of Civil Rights position for my county - I would have likely gotten the job had I shared the board's Alabamian view of immigrants. Should I have lied? A moral dilemma.

We have considered 'dumbing down' the resumes - but that is no more honest than inflating them . . .another moral dilemma.

Oh my - snow coming here only a few inches - the city girl in me cannot imagine getting up early in the bitter cold to milk the animals. My husband did that - lived on a working farm his first 18 yrs.

Love you guys. Truly do.

Good Morning all,

Shirley, I don't envy you with the farm work, not at all. I'm not much of an animal person except for birds and dogs really, or other types of indoor pets. I did grow up around horses but hated the chores related to them. I'll stick to gardening and low maintenance animals, lol

Barb, I guess they figure if you're over qualified you are only going to be around until you find something better. That's also a good reason to take a temp job if you can find one. How's your Hubby doing with the fall down the stairs? I hope he is okay. You would proably do really well in a job where you were recording information or documents. Maybe even working for a detective agency :)

Rossella, I'm sorry your cat passed away. It's good you are keeping busy but it's okay to grieve to. *Hugs* to you.

Christina you sound busy busy as usual!

Hello to everyone, have a good day, or fake it, lol

Rossella, I am sorry for your loss. I still grieve over Mittens, who died before her 10th birthday in 2005. I have spoken of her, how I can feel her jump up behind me on the sofa? They are always with us to comfort, those who we shared real love and connection with. But, life is for the living, and on we go. The renewal of life: babies, puppies and kittens, is our hope:)
I posted the Lentil Stew. I will do more, but I'm very unmotivated today. Tired from being out yesterday. I am not a shopper. Can't stand it. Who needs more stuff?
I am meeting my friend who lost her husband to Alzheimer's a couple of weeks ago. She was the woman who almost took Sanura. Mother getting her toenails cut at 10--YES IT IS A BIG DEAL!!! haha. To her, anyway. I will go over after that and take her out for a walk. It is a lovely day, however, I am feeling like the other shoe is about to drop. Just a general sense of doom. Oh, Joy. Tralala. Later, Friends.xo

Hi ALL .... I went around the corner for about an hour today to visit my friend and see his new really cute Parrolette Bird. He is the friend that we dog sit for (his dog came from mine). Anyway that was fun, the little bird was sitting on my head haha then on my shoulder, he let me pet him and even lay him on his back in my hand. In my next life I'm raising little birds instead of dogs, LOL

I helped dad get his xmas shopping done over the computer today and he's happy that it's done. So am I. It's time to go play outside for a little bit then time to cook dinner...arrrgh! Maybe I can go build a treehouse and live in it? The idea really appeals to me. :) Love you all. XXXOOO Chirpy

Nothing new on the thread tonight.... No news good news!
Guys I am not adopting more cats... I have definitely understood there is an epidemic of feline immunodeficiency virus here, so I have just to hope that not all of my cats get it. I should move from here (complicated) or shut my cats inside (impossible). So I think it will happen as in Wilderness. The strongest will survive.
The strangest thing is that were I lived before (1 mile from here) there were no FIV, but FELV (feline leukemia). In a way FELV was better because there was a vaccine. I know that when you keep cats free, anything can happen... It doesn't happen frequently that they live until they are 15.
Good night everybody!

Rossella,
I too have a kitty with feline AIDS and there is a vaccine here, but by the time he was diagnosed, Tuxedo and Remus had been eating out the same dish for months. I just have to do the best I can for them and hope they are some of those kitties that manage to have a fairly normal life. I know you will end up adopting more cats if they show up at your door. You have a big heart. Try get some rest my friend.

Sorry to hear about Nino. Pets are so easy to get attached to, and don't have that long of a life span sometimes. We have 7 cats here at the ranch. I think there is a sign up in "cat" that says " free food" If they hang around long enough, they get a trip to the Vet though. My sister has one that showed up neutered and declawed, almost 12 years ago now. He gets to come in the house, mostly because he beats up everyone else, even the dogs. So keeping him in the house most of the time keeps out of trouble.
I know those shaws and lap blankets are going to be appreciated. That is such a great thing your doing. The quilting club here, gave me a lap blanket because my husband was sick. I still keep it on my bed.
Well have to work again tomorrow. Good night everyone, and may tomorrow be a good day for all of us. Shirley

2011's First Christmas Joke

Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.
'In honor of this holy season' Saint Peter said, 'You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven.'

The man from Idaho fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. 'It represents a candle', he said.
'You may pass through the pearly gates Saint Peter said.

The man from North Dakota reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, 'They're bells.'
Saint Peter said 'You may pass through the pearly gates'.

The man from Arizona started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties.
St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked,
'And just what do those symbolize?'

The guy from Arizona replied,'These are Carols.'
And So The Christmas Season
Begins......

Cuz, hazelnut coffee with splenda up the nose is not comfortable first thing in the morning, but it did help me blow my nose. WhooHoo!! Cuz, you rock:) I love the 3 guys going to heaven, too. Thank you for starting my day with a laugh!!! :D
Austin, Sweet Austin: some things skip a generation, as we have seen. My Grandmother knitted and crocheted for all her family, but she was not benevolent outside the family. My Mother did nothing for "outsiders", and less for her family. I do too much for everyone, including strangers, so maybe my daughter will balance things out. My son is like my Mother. We are definitely ALL Different, and I am beginning to think it does not matter where we came from, who our parents were, if we have siblings who we bond with or who want to wipe us off the face of the earth. Each has a purpose, unique and single. We are who we are:) And YOU are a sweetie. Everyone HERE is amazing. xoxo
I might have eaten some smoked fish that was not good yesterday, and that was the reason for my funk. I felt bloated, like the fat yellow cat in the Hugs section, so I kept drinking water, eating fruit, and by last night I was OK. Water on the brain can make you feel weird, that is why when women are bloated before their period, they get bitchy, as well. As soon as the water leaves the tissues, you feel better.
I am just full of it this morning, aren't I? Miss know it all. hahaha. Just kidding, folks.
Hubby said in passing this morning, almost under his breath,( the country he has been dealing with about his wind turbine wants to make a deal) I did not react. I got off that roller coaster a while back and gave it to God.( If I may say that here) I have to decorate the tree and mail some things TODAY, so I cannot be thinking about some international deal.
Rossella: how are you:) Again, I am sorry about Nino. Your story reminded me of my two Siamese back in the 70's, which I inherited from my step-mother after my Dad died. One of them died in my arms at midnight of Pneumonitis, as they called it then. They were 'in the house cats', because we had coyotes very close by. It seems everywhere I have lived in California I am near the hills and bridle trails, and that is where they are. We also had an afghan hound at that time, and a green Mexican parrolet. One day, the dog came in the front door, knew the bird was flying free downstairs, and it was all over. I called him, he came slowly up the stairs, very ashamed, with little green feathers stuck to his luxurious blond coat. Yikes. Nature. Sorry.Oh, I am living in the past and I must stop that now.
It is lovely and clear, and about 42 degrees. I shall go now for a walk/jog and breathe deeply. Then I will go to the post office, then go do Mother's nails.
Blister dister sister was supposed to come today for a visit, I thoughtfully sent her a quick email the other day explaining that Mother is now sleeping all morning until after lunch, maybe the info would help her plan her visits. She is coming Sunday afternoon instead, with Chubby grubby hubby. Isn't that NICE?!
I Love each and every one of you dear souls. YOU are a BLESSING to me.
Hugs, Christina xo

Take my Son.....
A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, fromPicasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art. When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son. About a month later, just before Christmas, There was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands..
He said, 'Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly... He often talked about you, and your love for art.' The young man held out this package. 'I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this.'
The father opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture.. 'Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. It's a gift.'
The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected.
The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings. Many influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection.
On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. 'We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture?'
There was silence...
Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, 'We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this one.'
But the auctioneer persisted. 'Will somebody bid for this painting? Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?'
Another voice angrily. 'We didn't come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Gogh's, the Rembrandts. Get on with the Real bids!'
But still the auctioneer continued. 'The son! The son! Who'll take the son?'
Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the longtime gardener of the man and his son. 'I'll give $10 for the painting...' Being a poor man, it was all he could afford. 'We have $10, who will bid $20?'
'Give it to him for $10. Let's see the masters.'
The crowd was becoming angry. They didn't want the picture of the son.
They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.
The auctioneer pounded the gavel.. 'Going once, twice, SOLD for $10!'
A man sitting on the second row shouted, 'Now let's get on with the collection!'
The auctioneer laid down his gavel. 'I'm sorry, the auction is over.'
'What about the paintings?'
'I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will... I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings.
The man who took the son gets everything!'
God gave His son over 2,000 years ago to die on the Cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today is: 'The Son, the Son, who'll take the Son? 'Because, you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything! FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, WHO SO EVER BELIEVETH, SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE... THAT'S LOVE

God Bless.

Rossella, I am sorry about your cat. I had a farm cat when I was just a young girl that I just adored. He was siamese and his name was Chewy; he had a nack forr getting into trouble, but I nursed him back to health after every mishap. He was run over by a car, slammed in the door on several occasions since he loved to bolt into the house, the dog chewed all of his fur off his neck, he lost his tail and one leg to a swather on separate occasions, and his ears both froze off during the winter. So he was my three-legged, no eared, bald-necked cat with a very crooked tail. He survived all of this just to disapear two years later. I was devistated.
