Hi everyone....just thought I would check in and see how the day went....looks like some of you are working way too hard and some have a new job....congrats! Exhausted tonight....cleaned the col's house today...ewwwww.......used the spot bot to clean all the doggie pee spots, vacuumed, washed windows, did some of her laundry and the old hag is so unappreciative it makes me want to use pillow therapy. So on that note I will find myself something to eat and of course fill up my glass with rum and coke. Hugz to all!

deef, I can so relate to that grossness. I'm glad you let it out on here. Do you take breaks when shoveling? I think it's a good idea. I worry about people's hearts when they shovel. Stay hydrated too!! I'm glad you described your home. It sounds very nice and interesting. Really cool.

true, so nice to see you on here. :)

Okay, Illinois game coming on. Sure hope they win tonight.

Love yous!! I didn't get to say hello to everyone. Hello everyone!!

Man! Just got Mom's sh!t on my thumb! GROSS!!!!!!That snow sure got heavy fast. Raining here now, and I think my arms are 2" longer than they were this morning. Gonna be real sore tomorrow!
Mom has already emptied the tissue box and shredded a few, then threw them all over the kitchen. Then she took her glass of milk from lunch and poured it all over the table and started to clean with it.
I finally took her to the bathroom and low and behold, there was a prize in that cracker jack box! My thumb got the worst of it. No scratch that. My nose got the worst of it!!!! Now she is zipped into her Posey vest and tied to the glider rocker so I can have a few minutes to catch up and get the laundry done.
Good thing I have leftovers for tonight.
Ssk, the house was built as a boarding house in 1886, is 3 stories tall and has 4 apartments. it's been in the family since 1950. I have lived here my whole life except for the first 2 years we were married. My mom is in one apartment on the ground level and I am next to her. My daughter and her husband are in the apartment above us, and the one above Mom's has been empty for a few years, but my SIL's brother and wife will be moving in by March. They are moving back home from Penn.
Lot's of work to keep up with here, but it's home to all of us.
Hope all of you are not getting any nasty weather today. I think it all came here!

OK, change in plans.
Boat out first thing tomorrow am and now it's all about finishing up the laundry and washing off a weeks worth of carrots!

Deef!! whaddya nuts???
Man, take it easy. I know that the snow needs to get moved but ow ow ow.

75 degrees on the foredeck Miz!
That was a sweet thing to say Miz, and I am so happy you're still here with us. Even though my mom is gone, i don't want to lose my friends I made here and I think that those of us who are on the other side already can still be of help.

SSK!! I know how that conversation can, shall we say, lag......
Keep checking in. That's what I did and I know I say this a lot, but it did save my life.

Linda! Kiss your Pa for me and Yes! stay focused on the NOW and have a good time and when that other time finally comes, you and i will drink some zoom zoom coffee and cry and laugh together.

Cat is here sleeping half on the computer and making sure that there's hairs all around.

I am so excited knowing that I am finally going to be able to meet Miz for real.
I want to meet all of you guys for real and I think we need to plan a convention!
With Hats!
love all you guys and you all know who you are!

Deef- you probably don't want to hear this but..."be careful out there shovelling...and cleaning off the roofs.." you must have a huge house. Are you renting apt's? Your Mom sounds like a hot ticket...and quite a handful! Good luck over the next couple of days.

Awww deef, that's so sweet. Your mom asking Merry if she was hurt. So glad your mom wasn't hurt when she tipped her chair over. Those restraints sound like a good idea for your mom's safety. And, please don't fall off that roof!!

I was careful Miz, just my old shoulder getting tired!!! Snow was very light, but now it's turning to sleet. Got to clean off a couple roofs before the freezing rain hits. Don't want any leaking in the house. House is so big, we have 7 separate roofs!!!
Just ordered anew restraint for Mom's wheelchair. Goes over her shoulders so she can't bend over to reach stuff on the floor. She tipped her chair over yesterday while reaching for a piece of fuzz on the rug!!! Got to love it! First thing out of her mouth was "are you alright?" She asked Merry if she was hurt!!!Fun times for all.....

deef, please be careful with the shoveling. Throwing snow over a 6 ft. fence would hurt anyone, let alone someone that had surgery. Shoveling is VERY hard work. I'm glad everyone there is staying home and safe. All this bad weather sucks. Hubby's getting sick of it too. Maybe we WILL move somewhere warm. I sure hope so.

Just got done shoveling the long driveway so my daughter could park her car when she got home from work. 4" of fluffy stuff, but now it's sleeting and then freezing rain is expected!
You would think that my shoulder would be good nearly 2 years after surgery, but I can hardly lift my arm after throwing the snow over our 6' fence. Oh well! Ice it I guess, because there is another storm headed this way Friday.
Linda, put those pillows under Pa's sheets and mattress cover. That way he can't move them. Found my mom on the floor the other night. First time she has tried to get out of bed in months! I figure it's the UTU and a full moon tomorrow. By the way, still no med for the UTI!!! Doc's office closed for the holiday yesterday and closed today due to the weather.
Daycare is canceled and I told Merry not to come on the bad roads, so it's me and Mom for the next 3 days! Had all kinds of things on my "to do list", but I guess I can throw that out. Plenty of laundry to keep me busy!
SSK, Mom used to read, play cards, and make puzzles, but it's been months since any of that makes sense to her. Glad your mom can still occupy herself.
Miz, hubby will get that room when you are ready. In the mean time, I'm sure he'll be glad to make do.
Bobbie!!! Boat out of water!!! Bet you can't wait to get her done! Those Jack Benny oldies sound cool! Used to watch him with my grandparents because we did't have a TV back then. Loved Roscoe! Just saw him in a Turner Classic movie last week with Lena Horne! It may have been her first movie and was made in the early 40's.
Christina, Take care of that shoulder! I know the OUCH!!!!
Good morning to everyone else out there! Hope you all have a good day!

good morning, ya, that was a scare yesterday, not being able to get on and see how everyone is doing. It's not easy being with Alz all day , the conversation is lacking. Mom is doing OK, but I haven't taken her out for rides in the car due to the cold, and it's hard to hold her up and open the door at the same time. Might need a ramp soon. I've gotten so attached to my mom , she's like a baby or a pet or something, I know it's gonna be a real loss when she passes (unless I "kick the bucket" first) I'll probably get on the first plane to CA and visit my sons,, and then they'll be saying.."my Mother is trying to move in with us , help! Good Morning Friends & Neighbors. Just checking in. It's nice to be back on here. Was very frustrating last night trying and trying. Been catching myself thinking Mom's still in her room. Hubby would like to use her small bathroom for a paint room for fixing up stuff that he sells. Says he would put plastic over everything and it's a real good idea cause it's too cold out to do it outside. I just don't know if I'm ready for that. I told him I gotta digest it.

I want to tell you all. I know that my care giving days are over but you all have helped me so much in dealing with Mom's passing and how hard it is going through the loss. I think we need support through all of it. So thank you very much for being here for me. Love yous.

cuz PLEASE BE EVER SO CAREFUL AND VIGILANT........antibiotic use can cause c-diff and it is contagious and very nasty stuff. Doctors tend to go yeah, right....but don't let them fool you. When I used to transport patients with c-diff I would never touch anything without wearing gloves. Of course that was a habit I used anyway, but more so then.

Cuz, I liked the stories of the children a lot. They might be all true. I remember my nephew when he was 4 years old, more or less. One of the most famous Italian singers was dead, I took the guitar and started to sing his songs to celebrate him. My nephew asked me: "If you sing his songs, will he resurrect?"

Jen, let your mother stay a lot with your grandfather. She will understand. It is normal that now she is disoriented; she had lost real contacts with him for years!

Bobbie, don't worry to polish brasses. That's my job. Your job is to drive the boat. Everyone has a different job on the boat.

BTW I have been cut off from AgingCare too. During several hours tonight (Italian night). But as I saw that all the rest of Internet worked, I understood they were doing some works!
If we have not been cancelled until now, with everything we have said or done... I guess for AgingCare staff we all are "the black sheep!"

Stay Young My Friend

We all need to read this one over and over until it becomes part of who we are!
HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Try everything twice.
On one woman's tombstone she said she wanted this epitaph:
"Tried everything twice. Loved it both times!"

2. Keep only cheerful friends.
The grouches pull you down.
(Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)

3. Keep learning:
Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever...
Never let the brain get idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.'
And the devil's name is Alzheimer's!

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud.
Laugh until you gasp for breath.
And if you have a friend who makes you laugh,
spend lots and lots of time with HIM/HER.

6.. The tears happen:
Endure, grieve, and move on.
The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves.
LIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love:
Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever..
Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health:
If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it.
If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips..
Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county,
to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
I love you, my special friend.

11. Forgive now those who made you cry. You might not get a second chance..

And if you don't send this to at least 4 people - who cares?
But do share this with someone.

Remember! Lost time can never be found.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Wine does not make you FAT ...

- it makes you LEAN ....
(Against tables, chairs, floors, walls and ugly people.)

CATHOLIC HORSES

One day while he was at the track playing the ponies and all but losing
his shirt, Mitch noticed a priest who stepped out onto the track and
blessed the forehead of one of the horses lining up for the 4th race.

Lo and behold, that horse - a very long shot - won the race..

Before the next race, as the horses began lining up, Mitch watched with
interest the old priest step onto the track. Sure enough, as the 5th
race horses came to the starting gate the priest made a blessing on the
forehead of one of the horses.

Mitch made a beeline for a betting window and placed a small bet on the
horse. Again, even though it was another long shot, the horse the
priest had blessed won the race.

Mitch collected his winnings, and anxiously waited to see which horse
the priest would bless for the 6th race. The priest again blessed a
horse.

Mitch bet big on it, and it won. Mitch was elated.. As the races
continued the priest kept blessing long shot horses, and each one ended
up coming in first.

By and by, Mitch was pulling in some serious money. By the last race,
he knew his wildest dreams were going to come true. He made a quick
dash to the ATM, withdrew all his savings, and awaited the priest's
blessing that would tell him which horse to bet on.

True to his pattern, the priest stepped onto the track for the last
race and blessed the forehead of an old nag that was the longest shot
of the day.

Mitch also observed the priest blessing the eyes, ears, and hooves of
the old nag. Mitch knew he had a winner and bet every cent he owned
on the old nag.

He then watched dumbfounded as the old nag come in dead last. Mitch, in
a state of shock, made his way down to the track area where the priest
was.

Confronting the old priest he demanded, 'Father! What happened?

All day long you blessed horses and they all won. Then in the last
race, the horse you blessed lost by a Kentucky mile. Now, thanks to you
I've lost every cent of my savings -- all of it!'.

The priest nodded wisely and with sympathy.

'Son,' he said, 'that's the problem with you Protestants, you can't
tell the difference between a simple blessing and last rites.'

Grand parents

1. She was in the bathroom, putting on her makeup, under the watchful eyes of her young granddaughter, as she'd done many times before. After she applied her lipstick and started to leave, the little one said, "But Grandma, you forgot to kiss the toilet paper good-bye!" I will probably never put lipstick on again without thinking about kissing the toilet paper good-bye....

2. My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday. He asked me how old I was, and I told him, 62. My grandson was quiet for a moment, and then he asked, "Did you start at 1?"

3. After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin. Finally, she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three-year-old say with a trembling voice,
"Who was THAT?"

4. A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like. "We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods."
The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this all in. At last she said, "I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!"

5. My grandson was visiting one day when he asked, "Grandma, do you know how you and God are alike?" I mentally polished my halo and I said, "No, how are we alike?'' "You're both old," he replied.

6. A little girl was diligently pounding away on her grandfather's word processor. She told him she was writing a story.
"What's it about?" he asked.
"I don't know," she replied. "I can't read."

7. I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me and was always correct. It was fun for me, so I continued. At last, she headed for the door, saying, "Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these colors yourself!"

8. When my grandson Billy and I entered our vacation cabin, we kept the lights off until we were inside to keep from attracting pesky insects. Still, a few fireflies followed us in. Noticing them before I did, Billy whispered, "It's no use Grandpa. Now the mosquitoes are coming after us with flashlights."

9. When my grandson asked me how old I was, I teasingly replied, "I'm not sure." "Look in your underwear, Grandpa," he advised "Mine says I'm 4 to 6."

10. A second grader came home from school and said to her grandmother, "Grandma, guess what? We learned how to make babies today." The grandmother, more than a little surprised, tried to keep her cool. "That's interesting." she said. "How do you make babies?"
"It's simple," replied the girl. "You just change 'y' to 'i' and add 'es'."

11. Children's Logic: "Give me a sentence about a public servant," said a teacher. The small boy wrote: "The fireman came down the ladder pregnant." The teacher took the lad aside to correct him. "Don't you know what pregnant means?" she asked.
"Sure," said the young boy confidently. 'It means carrying a child."

12. A grandfather was delivering his grandchildren to their home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started discussing the dog's duties.
"They use him to keep crowds back," said one child.
"No," said another. "He's just for good luck."
A third child brought the argument to a close."They use the dogs," she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrants."

13. A 6-year-old was asked where his grandma lived. "Oh," he said, "she lives at the airport, and when we want her, we just go get her. Then, when we're done having her visit, we take her back to the airport."

14. Grandpa is the smartest man on earth! He teaches me good good things, but I don't get to see him enough to get as smart as him!

15. My Grandparents are funny, when they bend over, you hear gas leaks and they blame their dog.
