Good Morning Everyone. Busy day today. Nail appt., bank to close out Mom's accounts, take checks to investment firm, take used needles and such and unused diabetic supplies to the caregiver place, work and then out to eat with a dear friend. I'm not used to all this out and about stuff. Girl came into work yesterday to sell a house in a nearby small town for $3,000.00. I started asking her about it and there was a fire there. Needs work. Hubby is gonna go by there and check it out. No garage and that's a problem for us. But, if we can buy it and fix it up and make it good, we could make a profit on it. We shall see. Thanks for being here everyone. You are God's gift to us all.

love,
miz

yep....crazy old lady.....that's what I call mil to myself and hubby and friends.......but with affection. Hey, she's nuttier than a fruitcake and what makes it so frustrating is that she thinks she's as smart as she was 50 yrs ago. And she doesn't hesitate to tell me how stupid I am. Po'd her again last night....went down to let dog out, put her to bed and her coffee pot is brewing....well I know she doesn't have coffee, I take it away from her at noon or she would drink it all day...then pee all night. Need to run cleaner through the pot because she planned on drinking this hot, barely colored crappy water. One day I saw something in her cup that resembled dirty, dirty bath water and she was just slurping away. So anyway, put her to bed at 9p and told her she'd better not turn all the faucets on again....had to turn them off when I went down around 7p....bathroom tub and sink were just flowing.....I told her she would have to pay the complete water bill if she turned them on again. Getting the bidet installed today on her toilet......that's going to be a riot because I know she will try and turn it on before she sits down.......one time ought to be enough to stop her from doing it again. More coffee for me now and Special K for breakfast and I'll be good to go for awhile. Hugz to all...................

"Old" is when...

...going bra-less pulls all the wrinkles out of your face.

This one is for those of you who knit...

An old lady was knitting as she was driving down the highway.
A police officer drove alongside her car and yelled, "Pull over!"

The lady yelled back, "No - mittens!"

Partial Dosage

An elderly gentleman went to the local drug store and asked the pharmacist for Viagra. The pharmacist said "That's no problem. How many do you want?"

The man answered, "Just a few, maybe 4, but cut each one in 4 pieces."

The pharmacist said, "That won't do you any good."

The elderly gentleman said, "That's alright. I don't need them for sex anymore as I am over 80 years old. I just want it to stick out far enough so I don't pee on my shoes."

Chuckle of the Day ---

Sitting on the side of the highway waiting to catch speeding drivers, a Police Officer sees a car puttering along at 22 MPH. Says he to himself: "This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder!" So he turns on his lights and pulls the driver over. Approaching the car, he notices that there are five old ladies - two in the front seat and three in the back - wide eyed and white as ghosts.

The driver, obviously confused, says to him "Officer, I don't understand, I was doing exactly the speed limit! What seems to be the problem?"

"Ma'am," the officer replies, "you weren't speeding, but you should know that driving slower than the speed limit can also be a danger to other drivers."

"Slower than the speed limit? No sir, I was doing the speed limit exactly...Twenty-two miles an hour!" the old woman says a bit proudly.

The Police officer, trying to contain a chuckle explains to her that 22 is the highway number, not the speed limit.

A bit embarrassed, the woman grins and thanks the officer for pointing out her error.

"But before I let you go, Ma'am, I have to ask..Is everyone in this car OK? These women seem awfully shaken, and they haven't made a peep this whole time," the officer asks.

"Oh, they'll be all right in a minute officer. We just got off Highway 99."

May I say that as just a reader of this site I think all of you are great caregivers and if and when I get sent down the road to ill health that I will have someone as caring and as loving as all of you are. cuzzin Bobbie got me reading this thread from the begginning and I have shared this site with my wife and others. I hope to continue to be able to share your venting, your jokes and most of all the boat. Not because it is Bobbies boat but because of the great memories of all of you have made dreams of have been aboard.

Cuz. I got my mom back home from the hospital Monday afternoon. She is very tired now but doing fine. Just spent 6 hrs in emergency with the mother in law. She has a bad infection in her left ankle similar to gout or colidis but drs have ruled that out. She has diabetes but they kept her over night to try to knock out the infection.

Love all you guys

I just read what is going on on the thread & I am SO sorry, Bobbie!!! I guess it's a good thing that I read it after you asked us to get back to life so that kinda stopped me from responding & toasting some hateful people!!! You're a better person than I am! Bobbie, you've done nothing, but be nice & encouraging to old & new alike...smart & uninformed ...ok, stupid as well as uninformed...nice & mean...How in the world could they be so mean to you, I'll never understand!

Instead of lowering myself to others statis, I'd rather encourage you! I lead when the time & situation is right (I'm smart enough)...I follow when the path is right (I'm NOT dumb)...You have set an example in how you've handled this situation that I have learned from! I feel closer to this group of people than I do people I've know my whole life! I've made some friends that I hope will remain lifelong friends & I'm proud to consider you one of those friends! Here's to the core of this group in being actual TRUE friends...Here's to YOU, Bobbie, for bringing us all together & helping us learn that compassion that you examplify! Coudos, Captain!

Yeah, Pirate, the orange peels are made for that (and also to cut them with your nails in 2000 pieces that you can spread all around the house!)
Jam, my mother is declining very fast, too. She is more and more absent because she doesn't like and recognize the world she lives in. I know she could lose completely the joy of living, and let herself go very fast. On the other hand she could live in this kind of limbo for years. I guess we can't do anything else than help them in this stage of life, as well as we can. We are not God.

Geez....I finally get to go to work today and I come home to see the "family" in an uproar. What the heck happened with Tennessee and Nance? I'm not sure just what sparked the fire on here, but I am very grateful to Bobbie for expressing what so many of where feeling, and creating what was to be a "safe haven" for us stressed-out caregivers. I am sorry that a few have chosen to misinterpret the relationships on this thread. I'll look for the famliy on Facebook later this evening. Gotta cook some dinner.

Bobbie, well mom has slowed down a lot since I first started the heaviest of the caregiving saga in August of 2009. But was a caregiver for mom after dad died this month 12 years ago, doing all the driving for shopping errands and such. She is quieter now. In the last month she does not do the vast phone calls of a million hello's. My answer machine has the last few. I hated those...and now kinda miss them, due to I know she is really slowing down. The hutspah is gone...the wind is slowly going out of the sails so to speak. Sad....I know I prayed for quiet..but now it is sad. I am going to tape those last few messages from her of hello's so later on I can reflect. I have a tape from the beginning of the hell my mom began for me 12 years...when her rages at me were loud and violent and rude...now the last ones...you can hear how she can barely speak loud at all. Big difference. I no longer get any phone calls from her. I don't know if she can see the phone numbers well anymore even though the number pads are about an inch. It's all part of the aging process the decline..so sad...really makes you think about your own demise later on. So with mom, we try to keep her clean, clean depends, clean clothes, clean bedding. Try to keep her feed and somewhat entertained..that is tough. She only likes the Food Network on...I try to keep her mind engaged... Oh and something funny last weekend I made her Hamburger Helper Double CheeseBurger flavor......and on Sunday I was making for b/f and I braised ribs. I heard my mom calling me on Sunday night...I thought crap...always in the middle of cooking....so turned off the flame and went into her bedroom. "What are you cooking...it's smells so good"...had to laugh that is all she wanted....I guess it was the mirpoux I had used to do the braising with (celery, carrots, onions, garlic - diced and then added 1 can of beef broth).

Gosh, girl, I agree with you 100%.
Bobbie! When my bro and I were kids, we always stuffed the orange peel in our teeth! We gave it, of course, the shape of teeth. My father in the meantime took the paper which wrapped the tangerines, he gave it the shape of a rocket, he put it on fire and I don't know why, it flew like a rocket!
We liked to play with citrus in our family.
