Find Care & Housing
still not in the garage, J ~
My life has been eventful in the last few years. Death, divorce, disaster, Dad ...
My commercial shop of 18 years caught fire one night, a few years ago. A faulty wall heater had remained smoldering long after it was turned off. Ignited about midnight on Halloween.

Everything was drenched from the sprinkle system & damaged from smoke. The insurance recovery people spent months "cleaning" my property. I salvaged the computers, plotters & other equipment. Moved the business home.

Meanwhile, I had to replace enough things like desks, tools, materials, etc. to continue working while the recovery crew held the major stuff hostage as they meticulously "cleaned" it.
They had a magic ozone chamber. Ha!

Had a downstairs renter who left stuff. Ex husband left stuff, Tons of construction stuff! Parent's good furniture was both here & at the shop. It eventually came here.

When insurance wizards finally released my crap I had double of many things. Some necessary, much unusable. Long process. Takes time to sort what is worth saving, what's not.
97 frickin' boxes!!! Some with a single thing, like a paper cutter. Others contain hundreds of dollar of unique equipment.

Dad moving back here meant his furniture, etc. needed a place as well. It's all here. I can fill only 65 lbs of trash a week.
Plus I have lots of materials which are large & difficult to move & store. 4' x 8' sheets of different substrates & the power tools to cut it.
Yeah, I have stuff. Just not the extra 1,500 Sq Ft I used to.

oh .. & yes, there are treasures. Sir's comic envelopes when he was in the service. Boxes of them. Another creative soul.
Some antique things I have hidden somewhere.

Dad's bedroom is decorated with a collection of things his father brought home from the Phillipines. Midnight Palm bedspread & Morticia Addam's wicker chairs pull it together.

The siblings never helped sort thru anything. That was my job too. Clearing out a home with 54 years of family wasn't easy.

Hey rip, find any old treasures or just..."what were they thinking keeping all this crap?"

Olivia ... how are you doing with the family visiting? I too, am the youngest. I dread the day we lose Dad ... so sorry.
I hope you're able to find some private time.

Where is Peach???

The agency ladies just left after 'evaluating' Sir. Waiting for the Home Health Nurses to contact me.
It's a start.
How did you guys find good caregivers? I simply need a few hours a week to be "off call".

Whats with us people on this thread & our unique behaviors & life styles? I too am a member of the braless bunch! How does this stuff come up?
Bobbie ... always Bobbie!

Yeah, when I stopped working for in the government & corporate sector, I didn't need the confinement for so little. Plus, how in the world can ladies live with those underwires constantly digging into your ribcage?
My simple solution was to buy 6 packs of men's tank shirts, the really soft ones. Form fitting & long enough to stay tucked into jeans.

Went creative with RIT dyes ... great fun! Tie dye is back in my life! Much of my clothing is bleach spattered from constant cleaning.
Started playing with a simmering pot of dye on the stove.
Then ...
I have an expandable shower curtain rod over the shower pan. Used it to hang shirts which steam out while I shower.
Started mixing the dyes in spray bottles & having at it. Hanes would love them. Shirts, undies & socks ~ color coordinated.
If the marbled look goes out of fashion I don't care.

Miz, I hope Sassy is all right. I know you'll keep us posted. She has a huge support group here!

Back to the @#$%^&*(! boxes in the garage.

Wish me luck! After an hour of trying to replace the bulb ib my headlight, success! Minus some skin from my knuckles and kin of broke a protective cover over part of the engine, but the stupid light works. Wouldn't you know it was the light in front of the battery and I had very little room to see what I was doing and could only get one hand in where I needed to be.
Daughter ended up helping, but dropped a phillip's head bit onto car frame, which she then knocked into some part of the lower frame. Guess it will fall out when I drive the car. With my luck i"ll run over it and get a flat!!!
Got just enough time to take the car for a ride to warm it up, then off to the garage for a sticker! Oh yeah! Got to stick more leaves over the old sticker and hope I don't get caught before I get to the garage.

Castoff - Yes, we hiked the superior trail. It was absolutely beautiful. The trees were such brilliant colors - I don't think the pictures even do them justice. And all of the waterfalls. It was just so nice to have time to think or just veg while we hiked. We did lodge to lodge but still hiked about 45 miles in 5 days. Not too bad. We ended in Grand Marais but didn't get to the Howling Wolf, too bad. Had some great whitefish though.
Miz - I'll say a prayer for kitty. I have 2 of my own so I know how terrible it is when they are sick.

Miz, They can always go in & remove it. It's quite common & if you caught it soon after..(before things back up). I'm believing all will be well with kitty.
Angie, My mom can't do gloves anymore either. She puts 3 fingers in one so I got her mittens. That doesn't help with your dad though. Sorry.
Linda, Don't you just love sitting & admiring a job well done!!! I thought I was the only one that did that! lol.

Miz, Hope kitty poos a string for you. If she didn't get too much it won't bunch up & will slide out. My old tomcat ate tinsel from the Christmas tree & we had to help him with it. BE GENTLE if you have to tug on it.
Kathy, Hope you can take the rest of the day to breathe. Sorry about Merry's injury, but glad she's OK. VERY glad your hub's job is secure. My hub has been laid off since last Oct.. He's had a few bites for a new employer but nothing concrete yet. This economy really sucks.
Bobbie, My hub was in the garage at his sister's house having a smoke. It was chilly & he has nice pecs, but you could tell he was cold. A friend looked at my hub & said "Turkey's done!".lol I love my pop up timer hub!!!! lol
Pirate, lol. Different kind of "mud" I think.
Tenn, What about some mystery crop circles???? They happen all the time all over the world. That would get the local news involved.....but maybe backfire too.
Kuli, I love Minn. Did you hike the Superior trail? No wonder you were sleepy. A good hike makes me sleep like a brick. Got my first taste of a buffalo burger at the Howlling Wolf? in Grande Marias? Tasty!!! with olives & mayo. Good colors this time of year?
Rip, Hope you manage to get out more. We need that balance you know. Walks in the park are of the utmost importance for you & the pets. Diversions !!!!!
J, Glad you get a break. Cherish the time. Gramps may surprise you & enjoy himself.
GP, So glad you're getting better.
Love & best to all.

Bobbie, I'm with you and no bras! Didn't wear one all through the 70's and try not to now! Can never find one that feels comfortable. Flannel shirts with pockets that have flaps are good! If it didn't hurt so much. I'd cut them off. They only get in the way, and all men want to do is grab them!
Everyone thanks for the well wishes on hubby's job situation!
Now I have a new dilemma. My daughter came home yesterday and asked me why I didn't get my new inspection sticker. I was supposed to get it in September, and with the whole job thingy we forgot to get the car inspected. So, this morning it is raining and leaves are falling everywhere, so I put some big grape leaves on my windshield to cover the expired sticker! Had to use the car to take Mom to daycare. Then I noticed a headlight was out! Now I have to wait for my daughter to come home from work so I can go but a bulb and replace that! Then I can get my car inspected. Dennis would take it to work, but they are not set up for inspection yet!
Now, getting Mom off to daycare was not easy today. She was like talking to a stone wall! Couldn't get her to swallow her pills after numerous tries! Spit them in her water, rolled them around in her mouth, even fish them out of her oatmeal and held them in her mouth while swallowing the oatmeal!!! I was so pissed! Then I finally get her sweater and coat on and start out the door with her and she says "I have a big turd in my pants!" Well, that nearly did me in, as we were already late after the pill fiasco. Now I had to undress her and clean her up and dress again so we could go. That wasn't easy because she is like an octopus with her hands everywhere trying to pull her pants down and falling over at the same time.
I don't know how I got her to daycare without us both getting hurt!
So there you have it! A lovely start to another wonderful day in my world! Pretty soon my whole head will be white, or BALD!!!
Hope you all have a better start to your day than I did. Catch you later! Kathy

Bobbie, I totally agree with you about Donald Trump. In my opinion the hair says something about him too. Not sure what, but something.

For those of you who pray, please pray for my kitty, Sassy. She ate some yarn and has been vomiting and would not come out from under Mom's bed this morning. I was so relieved to find her alive. Hubby took her to the vet a few minutes ago. She's such a sweetie. I pray they can do something. Surgery? I don't know. Whatever it takes.

I'm putting away Summer clothes and bringing out the Winter. I hate that so much. Give me the tropics!!

I hope everyone has as good a day as they can have. Love yous and hugs.

love,
miz

Good Early Morning Ladies!

I am up early before sunrise and doing a load of wash and looked outside and saw the new moon that I momentarily mistook for an eclipse.
Beautiful shadow leaving an outhouse moon.

Deef!!! congrats, Deefer! we could all feel the strength and relief in your posts. Love to your husband and have a breather!! you are the best and we are all relieved and happy right there with ya, kiddo!

Miz! Glad you had an anniversary celebration!

Getting colder here and I'm going to have a chance to test the boat's heating system as well as hit a thrift store and get some heavier shirts. High beams are on. Need shirts with 2 pockets. don't own a bra. And not gonna.

Kuli! love that you're getting a boat! Dream and plan about your boat with us. Everybody here helped me get this boat!
What kinds do you like? Yachtworld.com! I looked at all kinds of boats and crawled around on all kinds of boats and it's the best (for me) to take my mind off of all of the insanity.
I took mom with me when she could still get around and she crawled around with me while she could.

I spent so much time looking at boats online that when I finally had this boat I had yachtworld separation anxiety. KuliBoat!

Donald Trump story and why he cannot be trusted, period: Has nothing to do with goofy hair or being rich. It has to do with character. Of which he has the wrong kind to lead a nation.

Not long after 9/11, maybe just 2 days, Trump went on TV EVERYWHERE to tell all of us stupid little people about how safe the stock market was and that in order to be 'patriotic' we should support our country and buy stocks... don't be afraid; all is well.

Historically, when a disaster, war, social upset and events of that kind strike a country, the stock indexes in the area where the strike occurs will tank. EVERY time, historically in EVERY market whether it's in the USA or Japan or Germany... you get it. It may take a few days, a week or such but it WILL happen.

I sat in front of the TV watching this (student of the markets for years) and knew exactly what this Co@K$u@ker was up to. He of course KNEW that the NYSE, S&P 500, S&P 100, etc, etc was going to fall through the floor.
Meanwhile, little people everywhere feeling the emotion of the 9/11 attacks, listened to what he said and invested what they had in the markets. For a few days the markets had upticks while the 'little' money flowed in. Trump, knowing that the markets were going to tank, shorted across the board (bet that the markets were going to fall) and made an obscene amount of money. Meanwhile the little people who followed his plea for patriotism lost their money as the markets reacted to the 9/11 strikes and fell like a rock. If they held on to the stocks they may have made it back in the years it took for the stocks to climb again but most people not understanding how markets work, panic and sell at a major loss. Trump knew this and was counting on it to make his own profit, screw everybody else.
He is sociopathic in the sense that he is NOT a civil servant and he is NOT interested in anyone's interests but his own.
He's a hack tv personality and he is not meant for anything else but mindless entertainment. Next.

More boat work today, as it will be for the next year while I strip and varnish the teak railings and dig out and replace the caulking just a little bit at a time.

She is here when you want to be here ladies.
