I think men are emotional cripples! When they can't face it they walk away. Again, this is a generalization and I apologize to the men that are strong enough to handle the job as caregivers. Men for whatever reason cannot deal with the emotional & nuturing roll of caregiver. THey can do physical labor till they fall down, but clean up s==t and they become useless.
I think we can all relate to feeling very alone and deserted by family members. Their lives are much more important than ours. Oh my, they "have" to have dinner with friends. THey have to have drinks with friends. They have to go to a show. When was they last time we had those opportunities. Hell, we don't even know what it is like to go to the toilet with out rushing because sure as hell, that is when mom/dad needs help. THey don't know the feeling of being trapped at home because you need to grocery shop and mom/dad can't go but you can't leave them alone. They don't know that your back is killing you from lifting and pulling up your parents but don't even have help to try get to the doctor to get some help for yourself. Or you spend so much time at doctor appointments for mom/dad that you can't even get time to care for yourself. I know I am ranting and rambling but sometimes it just pours out. I feel your pain my friends and we will just have to be here for each other for support. Just remember, karma will come back to bite them in the ass
Hello everybody. This is a very interesting question. I guess that the influence of the family upon an individual is important, but it is not 100%. Your parents can bring you up to be a good person, and you behave well until you grow up- Then, when you are an adult, your real nature comes up, and if you are a selfish person inside, you start to behave as selfish. It is so difficult to understand how a person can change when he grows up. My brother was really sweet until let's say he was 30 years old. Then he started to work for a company which put him under an enormous pressure and he changed.... He is not sweet anymore! He is sweet just with the members of his own family. To the rest of the world he is stiff and unforgiving. Who knows what happened in your brothers life which changed them and made them the people that you do not know anymore! It hurts very much, but I guess we have to accept it and stop wondering why. We can't do anything about it. I talked to my brother a million times in the last years, telling him how I felt. The result was zip, so I have stopped! I know my mother is completely on my shoulders and I know that if she dies before me, I can't expect an help from him at any possible level when I will be completely alone. This is a given! Jojo.... Good luck! I hope you get every possible help, at least until you feel better. Think of hiring an extra person! 'nite everybody
Rip, If you ever find the answer to that question about your brothers, let me know, because for the life of me I can't figure out how my brothers evolved into being selfish self-centered butt-heads.My parents were good people also, they weren't raised to be so uncaring. My dad said only trash would turn-around and sue some-one.They would walk out leaving him laying there sick and helpless. They are not the two boys the neighbors remember, they think something happened to change their souls. It bothers the hell out of me,I wish I would stop thinking about it,just wish I knew what ever happened to their heart to make it so black.
Wish I could find the article, Jen. I am suffering, barley paying the bills. I can work, but it's tough.
Bobbie ... I've been facing Nik's stuff for years. Dad has been in comas. hospitals, nursing homes, independent living ... Still pretty bright living with me.
Yesterday morning I checked on him, as I do several times a night. He was sound asleep ... I was scared ... I have found him stoic afer a possible stroke, when my brother's decided he was too sick to go out to lunch & left him ... alone ... Called me to report that Dad wasn't feeling well. Didn't stay with him.
I had that feeeling, rushed to is apt to find him comatose. Non - responsive ... sitting in his chair holding the remote, nose dripping ... Called the aid car. Treid to wake him ... got him breathing & somehow alert. Gently shook him back to life.
The aid guys came right away. Dad came out of where ever he was & responded. They took him away . Another ER trip. SO many ... that episode wasn't a UTI. Hours of waiting they decided he needed to eat.
Fed him a sandwich & releaased him.
Again, a happy event in the ER. He ate, I took im back to his cell (he determined his apartment to be his cell in the "institution").
Why did my brothers leave Dad when he felt faint? Needed help going to his room? Just left him there? Alone! Glad I had my gut feeling & found him.
I don't know if I am ranting or venting. I know Dad is safe in my home now. As awkward as it is for me. I'll never understand my brothers. There must be something among the men in my family that I will never understand.
Sorry for venting ... all the heavy lifting work I've done alone here in the house I keep for Dad & I ~ must have hit a chord. 3 brothers who find no time to help their little sister. That's not how they were raised ... My parent's were the kindest most considerate peole you'd ever know. Why it didn't sink in with them I'll never know. They have their important lives ...
Thanks for listening ... Sir too .... Off to bed ... good night my dear friends
nothing in stone so far because still under repairs so we're on island time. just working on the boat and Nik still has responsibilities out west. he'll be here as soon as he can, bless his heart. We talk 4-5 x's a day and laugh pretty hard considering what he's just gone through. He misses his dad so much and his dad was in his right mind right up to about 12 hours before, as he slipped into the coma so how hard is that? Even though he was really sick it would have to feel so sudden. I feel so much for him just like I feel for everybody here on the thread.
Igor is roaring through Bermuda and that's far away from us but we are getting a little wind and a squall every once in awhile. I'm only Captain, not supreme being! so safe at the dock while the sea rages.
Yo Bobbie! What's the weather doing there? I saw a news clip that some hurricane is raising Caine, but not sure where. Been working in the garage all day. Just see snips of the news when checking on Dad.
When will Nik return? When will your journey North begin? The website (or maybe just me), would like to know!
It's warm & blustery .... too early for the season here in Seattle to become cold. Everything feels sticky. Like what I've heard of the South. I used to waterski late into October. We pretend it rains alot ... this summer proved it. A very odd year ...
Back to the garage & trahing or recyling what I no longer need. What a flipping big chore! I think of your warehouse .... Whew!
Hey All, how goes it? Not sure anything would come of a report from what the ER doctor said he sees lots of elderly patients with Dilantin toxicity it is one of the most fiddly drugs out there. It is so stupid. They did this this time last year, 4 milligrams was too much 200 didn't even register on the test but they wont do 300?! I know i am not great at math but come on....
I have dvts I am getting mom tonight will see how it goes everyone works the only reason one of my sisters was able to take care of her is because her husband was on vacation and my daughter in law went there every day so she will be coming here every day to help out until my husband gets home wish me luck
Hi guys Maxine here our nursing home allow dogs to visit they really liven up the place Rossella love your stink feet story J make sure they make out a med error report esp. after what happened to Dennis Quad's babies Jo-Jo make sure you get your blood work done when ordered esp. when first starting ask you sister to help for a longer time tell her your doc said you have to lay low use electric shaver do not brussh teeth too hard be very careful with sharp knives stay away from rosebushes and cats with long toenailes please be careful my friend I am on a milder blood thinner and one day while recycleing cans got my finger stuck in the top and sis not think the bleeding would ever stop no one in the store even noticed as I am going through bandaides so often, but make sure you get the blood work done and make sure they get you the results asap so if you need to change the amount of meds you will know.
omg Diane you have a bf who crochets? SO it IS possible, wow, you made my day! It is cloudy and cool today in gloomy old Ohio. So my mom is laying low - maybe I will get some crochetting done! You guys are quite a team of sunlight! Thanks! LI (spiralli)
I have about 200 posts to read to try catch-up with everyone. Jojo I did see about your blood clots. Are they surface clots or dvt's? Whichever you have, don't play around with them. Even if the doc says to put your feet up, make sure to flex your toes and feet to push the blood around so it doesn't pool.
I've diagnosed mom as having Lewy Bodies Dementia. Despite changing her medicine around she is still having very detailed halucinations. I started to research Lewys and the symptoms fit her to a t. Today I was bathing her and she has an abcess in the crease of her leg towards the groin. It burst and I cleaned it up and plan to take her to the doctor tomorrow morning. Has anyone else experienced this?
B/f is bored to tears not being able to do anything. We had a little time to spent with each other yesterday. We went to AC Moore and he stocked up on yarn to continue crocheting his afghan. He does beautiful work. Better than me.
Hope all are well this morning, especially jojo!!! How are you girl?
Funny stories, all!!! Welcome spiralli!!!
PLEASE someone tell me, when asm I supposed to even start to feel better??? The doc at the ER said 24 hours & we're now past that & with little, if any, improvement!!! I'm SO flipping tired!!!
Diane, thanks for my bedtime story last night! It was fun!
Hope all will have a GREAT & uneventful Sunday full of rest!!!
So I'm eating a piece of toast with peanut butter and honey and read: ....dementia AND a colostomy bag.... and end up spritzing the entire screen as well as part of the keyboard with peanut butter and honey. Nice one.
OMG you're funny. welcome to the Grossed Out thread and boy will you fit in here.
Thanks for calling us a bunch of pikers; perspective is everything.
The Swords marathon is still on. I had no idea they had that many of those episodes in the can. Oh wait.. i've seen this one. Still better than watching the news. i have avoided the news all day. Did anything happen I need to know about? I'm tied up safe at the dock and the weather is good so that's all I know.
Tenny!!!! good to see from you and lil Tenny! OK: my pet kid picked up the chocolate turd before we could have any fun with it. He fed it to the crabs. He came to the boat today and called me a boat hermit and I said whattaboutit?
A few days ago he showed up with a blue claw crab that was still kicking and wanted to know if i wanted to 'cook it'. i said, sure. As soon as you get about 23 more, some Old Bay Seasoning and a 12 pack.
Love you Tenny and Rip and Rossella and Miz and Maxine and Secret Sister and Cast and Deefer and Flex and GPeach and Jen and now Spiralli and Pirate and JoJo (man, you GOT to take care of yourself. All bets are off until you're ok) and Kuli and we're getting a bigger and bigger crew. How cool is that!?!
wondering about Rephill, Kelleybean, Pamela how many did I miss? shout out!
I think that's what will happen Rip. Some cat will come strolling down the dock and pick me out and that will be that. Welcome aboard Able Seacat.
Google cats at sea and cats on boats to hear some great seacat stories.
Oh you guys are lightweights on the gross-out chart... My mom has dementia AND a colostomy bag... you just cant imagine the fixes we get in with that thing. One day she filled it with green food coloring - of course throwing me into a fit of concern then cracking up - she was the serious one in the family! Another time she stubbornly refused to let me put it on saying there was no reason to cover up her belly button with that "horrible plastic thing". As they do, the stoma started dripping out. "Oh good Lord in Heaven, what the hell is that?" asked my extremely proper mother. I let out a poorly stifled snicker and she looked at it again. "Poop! quick! stop the poop!", That was the fastest bag-job I ever did - a true miracle considering I could hardly breathe I was laughing so hard.
Positively scatological tonight. Kitty litter, dog poop, here's one more, Mom had to remind Grandpa once again to NOT rinse out his urinals in the bathroom sink...It is her fault. During the week I get to them right off, she lets em sit there and so he thinks either they are clean or he can do it himself..yes put a little Listerine in Them puppies too, that'll do ya!
JoJo that sounds terrifying, i hope you can get some rest and just heal up!
That one has come up a lot, What do you do when the care giver gets sick? I'll post that one....
Bobbie, daughter just reminded me of chocolate donut dog turd at eatting area, what ever happened with that. Did boat angel ever get feeling any better?Daughter has figured out there are several pet paridises in Florida, wants to visit every one,I think we should have it as good as the dog.
Jojo, If you are not well enough to care for Mom alone, maybe she should stay where she is for another week. If you don't take care of yourself, she won't have you to care for her! Is she with one of tour sisters? If they can,t keep her, maybe respite care somewhere for a week, just until you get some rest. Peach, Glad you are feeling a little better! Get some more rest if you can. Castoff, your gardens must be beautiful! Nice to get along with Mom, even if it doesn't last. Bobbie, You are sounding much better. You sure are working hard on that boat! Don't do chicken titties, but love lemon pecker chicken! Rip, I'm with you on the boat cat. They are the best. Hubby on vacation this week, so busy today already. Bank, grocery shopping( Miz, glad hubby did yours), lunch, then off for a haircut. Had my niece buzz the back and sides this time. Been getting it cut shorter and shorter. No time to fuss with it anymore. We walked twice today and did about 5 miles. My feet are killing me! The dealership where hubby works, is indeed being sold. It should be finalized in about 3 weeks. In the meantime we are keeping our fingers crossed that he will still have a job.
Hi everyone still alive was in the hospital had clusters of blood clots in my left leg whole leg and foot blew up couldnt walk so I decided I better go to the emergency room that was last friday they let me out late wednesday on the condition that i stay in bed and est which I havent done and now my leg blew up again. Will get mom back on Monday but will have some help since I cant go running after her since I have to stay off my feet and I also have to be careful that she doesnt get violent and try to hit me since she is starting to do that lately I have to be careful since I am on blood thiiners comaden and I have to be very careful. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions
I just love reading all the posts! I was feeling down & alone today...overwhelmed, & then started reading the posts & don't feel as alone now! Thanks! What in the world would I do without you?!?!
Again, I should have taken notes! My brain no workie so good anymore so it's hard to remember everything that's been said & by whom. I think I'm gonna start a Gross journal.
Thanks for all of your advice on reporting the situation with the urine culture! Still not feeling good, but it's coming!
Bobbie, LOVE the chicken tittie thing! How's the sunburn coming along? I'm so glad that you've got the Babraba B!!! Please KNOW that you're an inspiration to all of us!!! I'm very thankful!!!
ah Bobbie! So great to read your words! Been to long since our Mother Ship was aboard Grossed!
Gotcha on the dinghy. I am out of the realm for way too long. I miss it! Understand about the kitty too. When the time is right, you'll know. A far a kitty litter goes ... don't spend tons of money on clay or fancy newspaper litter.
If you have a feed store / horse or farm animal type outlet - find a product like Dry Den. It is composed of pine pellets with Zeolite - mineral supposed to supress the stink .... $6 for a 35lb bag. Great deal. Shelters here use it.
I scoop the poop ... why do we always revert to poop stuff here? OK ... I scoop the hard st*t, flush it or bag it ~ then when the pellets become dust it works for mulching the outside plants.
In Bobbie's case., I think it is green enough to dump overbaord. Some dogs love eating Cat Sh*t . Why??? Some enzyme they're missing., so they say.
I bet some fish would enjoy it too.
When the time is right, you will have a boat cat. Their sh*t is nothing compared to the companian the kitty will offer you.
Remember ... early ships crossing the Atlantic, all had cats to catch the rats. Cats can adapt ... as long as they are loved. You can love .. we know that about you!
A lucky cat will board your boat! Then the stories you wil share ..
Hey Rip and Cast and Miz and everybody!! I'm so glad you're all here I can't even imagine what it would have been like without you guys. Rip, you're the shiznit and I know these letters will be amazing. thank you thank you.
ok: the dinghy has to be the ship's tender. Therefore it is;
TT Barbara B TT= tender to
I'm not supposed to call it another name for all kinds of different reasons, mostly for ID and taxes.
I was supposed to go to the Pet Adoption today and forgot. I don't know if the Meatball is still available. I know I don't want any kind of dog. don't want to have to take it to the bathroom and the thought of cleaning up dogsh!! from wherever is not working for me. Neither's the thought of cleaning out a catbox to be honest with you and to have to spend so much $$ and stock up catfood and litter and I think I have talked myself out of it. Maybe I'll feel differently later but now it's kind of overwhelming. the boat is demanding enough! I thought for a minute I wanted to do it but am happy I have not pulled the trigger. there's a cat I can pat over on the next dock. Monk Roughwater is us to be sure. just a boat, no yacht. the sail you see in the picture is a steadying sail to keep the boat from rolling. If there was a stiff following wind we might pick up a knot but she is not a motorsailer.
burgee is the name of the little flag usually flown at the stern or bow. There's burgees for completing the Panama Canal, the great Circle Route and You're right there should be one for us!
brb... have to turn chicken tittie over...
back.
On Swords there's a little fiberglass boat like this one toughing it out in the N Atlantic. keep an eye on them and how they take weather, I hope we don't see that kind of stuff!! HurlWorthy.
I have a fishing pole that I'm eyeballin up at the pirateswap. big one. got red on it.
Psychic? I was thinking of a label too! We are too Gross! Over 4,100 responses to your original post. you are Gold, Girl! Not just the lettering ... Your inspriation for all of us writing here! Cult following? Whatever ... I am happy to be on board. I love this family!
Your lettering will be first class! The Barbara B deserves it!
'I'd like your dinghy being "What Now "... Somewhere we need to display "Grossed Out"! Maybe a Burpie?
Did I spell it right? Those little pointy penants that fly on the masts?
From the photos ... Your boat appears to have motor power as well as sail power. An amazing vessel! Very unique!
One of these days Bobbie will take & send photos. Our FlagShip ... Monk Roughwater? Correct me girl .... it's your yacht!
About the ship kitty ... Meatball. Anything new there?
Bobbie, You never know...you just may meet her one day in your travels. Mom likes the "chicken lumps" from Wendys fast food when she gets out of the docs office after a fasting blood test. She also writes "Sheekin" on her grocery list. Hub & I have been known to indulge in chicken tits also. Esp. now that we are older & cutting back on the red meat. Enjoy your movies tonight & sweet dreams.
watching the Swords marathon and reading Perfect Storm. Captain Linda Greenlaw is a hero of mine. That would be the stuff, if I could get some face time with Linda Greenlaw!! She's written a few books too and they were great.
My thoughs are with you all constantly. Sunshine Pee indeed!
I was going to make some Sun Tea but read through the posts and was afraid that i would see it as UTI Tea! Ummm. Rip!! We need a label!!
Rip, seriously, you must be psychic. Just last night I found out it is Interlux Sea Green. That's the outer 1/4 inch of the transom letters as well as the big accent stripe around the boat. I'm working on getting the teak the InterluxSchooner Gold, so the letters would have the gold inside. you know what I mean. Neck hurts. Wax on; wax off. working through it. Nothing compared to what you ladies are experiencing.
Been collecting the materials and tools to do the varnish, caulking and painting of the boat. A lot. i bet we'll be an inch lower in the water after it's all on board.
today is Talk Like A Pirate Day up at the marina. I haven't left the boat. i was sleeping downstairs where there is a big mirror on a bulkhead that's across from my bed. I can look in the mirror and see through the open portholes (rectangular) and see the sky. I'm half asleep and look up in the mirror and see a Giant Pirate Ship going by with a number of revelers hollering and laughing and having a good old time. By the time i figure it out and get in the cockpit they are tying up at the dock E of me. Love it. Lots of laughing and goofiness and yet I get to come back into the quiet boat and watch the Swords marathon. Talk about pathetic. Sitting on a boat watching tv about boats.
Well, I have a chicken tittie I'm going to cook up for dinner.
wish mom was here and i could crack her up with chicken tittie. One time when I asked what was for dinner she told me: Cats eyes fried in snot. I've laughed about that for 50 years now. laughing now. sorry if i grossed you guys out.....wait a minute.... Still the Grossed Out thread, right?
Things are ok here, just still sort of trying to sort out time and time off as in there isn't any. It just goes on. Hi to Rip and Rossella and CC and deefer...
Miz, I on the other hand have trouble getting out of the shower once I make it in. I end up late for many appointments not being able to drag myself out fast enough. Trying to wash away the world I guess. Are you taking any vitamins dear? Sounds like you could use a B12 shot? Iron? When I start dragging I know I'm missing something in my diet. Hope you find what works for you.
Maxine, You are right about folks getting out of your way. I have gotten out of the way of many people in public. Of course I think they have missed more than one or two showers.lol
Rip, I couldn't agree more about the "tech" problem. Machines have no compassion. Many people don't these days either & there are times I wish I could reach through the phone &........ 8 hummers today? I have been doing fall planting & wraping up for the year. Our hummers may be getting ready to migrate here in the mid-west. We haven't seen them much this week & have had quite a drought this year. Did some "hard" gardening at our local county park yesterday. Approx. 17 wheelbarrows of mulch in the bed I was working. It's a mostly native floral for the birds & butterflies but the weeds were taking over. Had to remove them first of course & I now have a rash half way up my arm. OOPS. I didn't think I ran across any poison ivy, but I've got some mask on it now & will hope for the best. Got it alot when I was a kid but this seems a little different. It's that "thin Irish skin" LOL.
Peach, Glad you got hooked up with the proper meds. Sorry it has been such an ordeal. Often the antibiotics will make you groggy & yucky on there own, so don't lose heart. The drug stores carry stuff for yeast infections over the counter. I prefer the three day suppository. The one day doesn't seem to work as well for me. A course of antibiotics can give you a yeast infection (kills the good bacteria also) so don't use it until you are finished with the course of anitbiotics you are on. GOD's best to you dear.
B321, Glad you are the supreme navigator of the Barbara B now. Hoping you & Nik are OK. Too funny about the depends for dinner.....you & my hub have the same (dare I say twisted?) humor. He makes me laugh all the time too.
Kathy, Hope all is improving for you & your mom. My mom & I had three days of activity in a row this week and we got along all three days. I'm thinking it's GOD! Nothing else explains it. Hub says we're like two cats in a box! I'm elated but I won't get my hopes up too high for next week, just be happy for the peace we had this week.
Rosella, Glad you got your modem & back with us. We have had some pretty severe storms here also. A little help with an antidepressant is almost standard for folks in our situations. Makes an unbearable thing a little easier.
Angie, I'm sorry things are so hard for you right now & hope they improve immediately. Please take care of yourself & try to rest when you can.

Love to you all and big hugs.
Diane
Does anyone recall the article with the link about Medicaid spend downs and paying caregivers? I can't find it..?
nothing in stone so far because still under repairs so we're on island time.
just working on the boat and Nik still has responsibilities out west. he'll be here as soon as he can, bless his heart.
I'm only Captain, not supreme being! so safe at the dock while the sea rages.
lovbob
Whew!
Cheers ~
sometime the Stich,
Rip
Sir & pets!
Yer a smart one you are. don't know about the abcess but I know we've got some real nurses here!

I hope everyone can have a beautiful Sunday.
Hugs to all my caregiver friends!
Diane
Thanks for calling us a bunch of pikers;
perspective is everything.
How cool is that!?!
wondering about Rephill, Kelleybean, Pamela
how many did I miss? shout out!
I think that's what will happen Rip. Some cat will come strolling down the dock and pick me out and that will be that. Welcome aboard Able Seacat.
Google cats at sea and cats on boats to hear some great seacat stories.
lovbob
JoJo that sounds terrifying, i hope you can get some rest and just heal up!
That one has come up a lot, What do you do when the care giver gets sick? I'll post that one....
Rip, you're the shiznit and I know these letters will be amazing. thank you thank you.
ok: the dinghy has to be the ship's tender. Therefore it is;
TT Barbara B TT= tender to
I'm not supposed to call it another name for all kinds of different reasons, mostly for ID and taxes.

Gotta have a rat Cat! Maybe a small dog too?
Enjoy your movies tonight & sweet dreams.

One time when I asked what was for dinner she told me:
Cats eyes fried in snot.
I've laughed about that for 50 years now. laughing now. sorry if i grossed you guys out.....wait a minute....
Still the Grossed Out thread, right?
lovbob
Hi to Rip and Rossella and CC and deefer...
Love & peace to all.
