KAtie and Freq.. the beltway flooded this afternoon,, the videos are scarey! Luckily our area missed this storm,, but I was at work in Baltimore and it's a mess,, as is Ellicott City.. again

Pam, I was shocked when I saw on the news the rushing waters in downtown historic Ellicott City so soon after a bad rushing water storm last year. Those poor shop owners who just finally got their businesses back up and running, only to see it disappear once again. Gosh Maryland really got hit with the rain this afternoon.

Knock on wood, no rain in my area across the Potomac except for some occasional thunder this afternoon. Looks like Mother Nature will try again tomorrow and on Tuesday with thunder storms.

I miss the sun !!!

Katie, guess that saying "you can eat off her kitchen floor" holds true for your mother-in-law.

Oops, wait, that's not how that saying goes... never mind :)

FF, I never thought of that!! Thanks for the badly needed laugh this morning!!

I saw the heavy flooding in MD on the news, the speed of the water flow is frightening. I hope everyone stays safe.

I have a whine....

People who let their dogs run loose to crap big ol' stinky piles in other people's yards.

I caught the little bugger in the act and scared the he11 out of him, so I hope he never comes back. Then I had to clean up his nasty mess so my dog wouldn't think it was something interesting to roll in or eat (yes, he has that bad habit).

Lol Gershun, that cracked me up! We have a neighbor lady who is sweet as can be but she feeds the stray cats that roam around. As a result we get cats crawling on our vehicles and pooping in the yard. Stepping in that crap is horrid.

I have a ballpark whine. I don't understand what is going on with people and all their bad behavior and scowling. Hubby and I actually got away to a minor league ballgame today. This is supposed to be a fun activity. We got stuck in an aisle with 2 older people that couldn't get up well and appeared to have knee problems on one end, and she was scowling at us so there was no way I was going to get by them to get out to use the restroom. On the other end of the seats a young couple with a little boy sat down. The man of the couple might have been of another culture and that might explain the cluelessness when it came to ballpark etiquette . When sitting at the end of an aisle, people automatically know they will be getting up to let other fans in or out periodically. This is never a big problem. I did not want to make the older people with the knee issues get up to let me out as they had real trouble even standing. Went down the aisle toward the young couple at that end. The little boy was no problem, his feet didn't stick out from the seat far enough to be in the way, but boy the faces the parents made when I needed to get out and the man barely moved his feet yet groaned when I had to get by. I said "Please excuse me, sorry". I am not a large person so I do not know what his problem was. It is a ballpark not a theater production and people do go in and out. I just left once and did not return to my seat after the scowling. I called my husband to come out and we went and sat elsewhere. I am so mad. It is awkward when they don't stand to let you by as you either face them to get by and put the lower front of you in their face, or turned the other way it is your behind in their face. If people stand it is less awkward and this man was not going to budge but seemed mad my behind was in front of his face for a second....On hindsight I should have eaten my chilli before I sat down in the row. Would have served him right and that really would have given him something to scowl about!

SusanA43, same problems with the dogs where I live, but these dogs are on leases with the humans guiding them !!

Wish someone would invent a fold up disposal paper plate that an owner can carry and quickly slip under the dog so the dog can do his business on that plate when it opens up, and then the plastic bag will cover the plate.

At one time I had a good solution, had a torti cat that was very territorial. She would hide in the bushes, and if any dog dare to step foot on "her yard" she would get all puffed up, run down the yard sideways full speed. That would get the owner and dog to leave very quickly. It was interesting watching dog walkers make a wide avoidance of my house :))

FF, I've seen videos of cats guarding their yard then racing sideways, chasing them away! Very funny!

FF - there's actually a product that the dog can wear that fastens around the base of the tail, and when they squat, the "stuff" just drops right into it. Neat concept, but not sure most dogs would wear it!

Sorry Gershun, for ruining your meal! You know how our conversations go here - we get off on some odd ones sometimes. LOL

Took my little dog to a parade yesterday for the first - and probably last - time. He LOVES people and other dogs, but goes a little ballistic when he sees other dogs and starts that high-pitched squealing that small dogs do, increasing in intensity and volume until he can no longer see the other dog. He did that a couple of times yesterday, and everyone was staring at me like I must have been doing something to hurt him - that's what it sounds like when he does that. Soooo, no more parades for him, I'm afraid. If it were just barking, that'd be one thing, but this, "Oh my God, I'm dying" screaming he does is not something we can deal with in a public setting like that. I have to wonder if this is the "behavior issue" that led the former owner to return him to the shelter? I would never return him - he's with me to stay - but I can see some people being pretty annoyed by it. I'll just deal with it.

Ok, off and running for the day - have to get the van to the shop to see if I can get the A/C fixed soon. The cat transport on Sunday was fine on the trip up there, but awfully hot on the way back (fortunately it was just me and the dog at that point, and I could roll the windows down).

Have a good day everyone!

The cat guarding the yard and running sideways when it perceives someone invading the space sounds like my Bully neighbor in the condo next door! My condo is detached from his and there is a lot of greenspace around everyone, but he does this whenever I go out to do something in the little flower garden by my patio. He appears out there and begins to "pace off" the boundary he perceives as his area, never saying hello or making eye contact. What is crazier is that he got on the condo board because he is a contractor and can fix things and the retired professionals on the board see him as useful. He is constantly marking his territory with flower pots strategically placed etc.

I think you should give him something to worry about Katie... offensive garden art, bird feeders along the property line, maybe some invasive weed seeds mysteriously planted in his flower pots and lawn. Oh, and maybe you could borrow a loud aggressive dog that snarls whenever he appears.

You can get mooning garden gnomes, apparently. I have wondered before who on earth would want them in their garden but at last I can see a really good place for them, Katie :)

Pam, I had thought of this way of marking the territory too. This Bully is a dismaying neighbor and nothing he does would surprise me. I suspect him of killing 2 rose bushes and some grass behind my condo with a spray that made a zigzag pattern. Grass does not naturally die in such a pattern as someone moving their arm back and forth with a spray bottle. Last Fall, long before he got on the condo board, I saw him taking photos of the back of our condo....nothing was amiss back there and no one ever came to repair anything. He had stated when he first moved in that he wanted to see the inside of our condo, which did not happen after he told me I sold my Mom's condo for too low a price,(a good realtor set the price and it was comparable to the other comps). He then began scowling at us every time he was outside. I suspect he was photographing to see in the large wall of windows and zoom in with the phone to stretch the picture to see in here. Not that I have anything to hide, but this behavior was just creepy. He has not done it since, but I did see him hiding in a rhododendron peering over this way...he went away when my husband walked toward the window. Now he has wormed his way onto the condo board... This used to be such a nice, quiet place.

I’m whining today. It was 83 today - really? In Maine? My other whine is they’ve switched my surgeries around. Now I’m scheduled for next Monday at 4:30 am. My surgeon and cardiologist think the aortic valve has to be done first. I’m not looking forward to this. Hospital for about 10 days and 3-4 weeks in rehab. I’m having one of the RN’s that was with my cousin Pam to do private duty for me. Going to talk to another one tomorrow.

Sue, Typical cardio surgeon - they like early. And I’d rather be up first than after lunch. Get them before they’re worn out. Transplant surgeon I worked for liked to start cutting at 3:30. I’ll be asleep - won’t what time it is.

Becky so sorry you are facing a heart operation. Sounds as though they will be opening your chest. I thought they could do these through a cardiac catheter these days .
I too like being first on the list and usually found a 6am arrival meant the surgery did not start till 8am. They like all that time to do blood work and anything else they fancy.
No fun at all we will all be thinking of you and hope it helps. I am afraid some valve repair may be in my future too.
Check out the rehab if you can you don't want to be stuck in a stinking dump where their idea of rehab is to make you walk to the bathroom.
