Sue,
What I meant was, at the end of the post, in tiny writing, it says either "see more", or it says "see less".

I am often clicking on the "see less" by mistake, wanting to see more. Because I am confused.

Sue,
You are so kind to answer back at all, I think I may have run out of whines.
Except, don't we all, who are seniors, have senior moments to laugh over, throughout the day?

Awhile back, just this morning, I wasn't laughing. Now, I am doing better.

None of my phones, appliances etc. talk to me and I intend on keeping it that way.

Remember when cartoons were good natured and no one sweared. Now there are these animated shows and people swear, have sex, you name it. Mind you, having said that, Wiley Coyote died every day and then next day he was alive again. What did that teach us? Maybe adrenaline junkies watched too much Looney Tunes when they were young.

So I worked out second day this week. Bravo for me! Twenty minutes on the elliptical. That's it. I'm not going to make that same mistake I always do where I kill myself for an hour, then am immobile for a month. Nope.

Anyway.....................!!

Can someone explain to me what that old song MacArther's Park is about? It's playing on the oldies station right now and I don't get it. "I'll never have that recipe again? Huh? What? :P

Way too much to copy and paste but it seems to explain everything. It was everything he saw one day.

Now that I know what that song is about I still hate it. :)

Didn't Donna Summer do her version and then the actor Richard Harris do his.
I think I liked his version better but..................still think it's a dumb song.

And if a cake took me that long to make I'd throw the recipe out. Better still, I'd go out and buy a premade one. I ain't no Martha Stewart. :)

Is it just the new site and people spending less time on it, or am I missing some different way of seeing activity? There just doesn't seem to be so much traffic on the forum?

At least on my iPad, it's difficult to see more than two questions or discussion topics and some seem duplicates

Donna Summer or Diana Ross?

I dimly recall a tale about bets being made in a recording studio that they could write a song with no meaning at all and still sell it; but this may have been 1980s urban myth. Not just no meaning in the ordinary way, like 'Waterloo*', but an intentional absence, a vacuum, of meaning.

Like that actor's boast that he could memorise any lines at a single reading, and the playwright's riposte of 'she went into the garden to cut a cabbage to make an apple pie... [it goes on a bit, this is as much as I can remember]... "What, no soap?" ... and the great panjandrum himself with the little button on top. So they all fell to playing catch-as-catch-can 'til the gunpowder ran out at the heels of their boots.'

*In case anyone is wondering what I've got against 'Waterloo', as jolly a party knees-up number as one could wish for, I agree, it's that sometimes it just doesn't do to listen to the words.

My my! At Waterloo Napoleon did surrender [with you so far]
Oh yeah! And I have met my destiny in quite a similar way -

[Let me stop you there. A way *similar* to the last battle of one of world history's most notable and charismatic military statesmen? In what way, similar? A strategic tussle over possession of La Haie Sainte? The pivotal intervention of General Blücher? The suicidal last stand resistance of your bodyguard?]

Waterloo! I was just beating you on the war
Waterloo! Promise to love me for evermore...

I am not quite sure that Benny and Bjorn had completely grasped all the details.

I decided to try to read this on the Default: Newest First. I had to go back 5 pages to where I was last reading. I had to scroll to the bottom, then swipe up as I read each post. Then hit page 4. Scroll, scroll, scroll to the bottom page so that I can read each post going up. By page 3. My right arm that does the scrolling started hurting. Yep.. my right arm still hurts from my fall on July 1st. It does Not like me to rest my forearm very lightly on any surface. Nor the constant moving up/down. I gave up.. I will come back again tomorrow. This time hit Oldest First - to limit my scrolling right arm up/down the computer screen. (Yep, I have a touch screen laptop.) My right arm is hurting as I type this. Later.

Country mouse, Over the weekend and totally bored, I went thru the questions. Only 3 or 4 new questions, mostly repeats. I don’t think the site is generating much new traffic and not as many comments or questions. The new site is far to inconvenient to read. If I were still limited in what I can do I’d be doing something else too.

BRING BACK THE OLD SITE!!!!!!

Some of the long time posters are absent from the forum, the changes may have been the nudge that caused them to move on permanently. I think the forum is often quieter on weekends - perhaps that is when caregivers are more apt to have visitors or respite and less apt to post.

Wish the software for "Discussion" would be like it is in "Questions" where you could answer an individual post answer instead of having to wait until the very end of the answers.

But I've grown to dislike the individual replies FF, for instance Isthisrealyreal has just "replied" to something somewhere on the "What aging-related words do you consider to be disrespectful, and what is a better substitute?" thread - who and what did they reply to? It shows up in my news feed but since it is out of context makes no sense. Maybe it would make more sense if the replies only showed up as messages to the people being addressed, but that can be problematic too because the comments are often meant to be part of the conversation but the rest of us miss them altogether.

Hm, I'm just thinking how to fix this - maybe if they included the name of the person being replied to?

My whine is this forum is more about chit-chat than the actual intended original question, so I'm out.

I hate to ask.....What's the question? 😐

Does NoRecess mean EVERY question on EVERY thread or just here in the "whine" section? If you're whining, ya' gotta' have "chit-chat" to explain the whine, right?

Oh dear, this is too complicated for my little brain 🤔.

Report

The question is, "My whine moment today, what's yours?

In keeping with my finely tuned and honed skills of interpretetive communication ,
( I call it), I think that No Recess did have her whine.

I think she meant, "how could you all be chatty when I am really suffering here".

Those "replies" feature are a pain, and no one is going to see the replies.
The forum is so much like Facebook now, and that is not helpful, imo.

Cwillie,
Have you found that you can reply to your own reply? Thereby having an entire conversation with oneself that no one is going to notice, lol.

Another "thing". Archived posts, which no one can add a comment to, that's great. However, it is all still there, making for a very heavy website. I would like to suggest a real archive section to store those threads from years ago. One would have to click on "ARCHIVED" to view posts from our past years. imo.

Sigh, I couldn't find one whine of hers in 10 pages back.
And, when someone asks a question on the other threads, I think everyone bends over backwards to offer as much information as possible. No chit-chat.
If you can't chitchat on "whine", where else do you go?
Just my opinion.

New whine,
Can we get a petition going to go back to the "old" Aging Care format?
I can only see one question at a time on my teeny IPhone 4. Really frustrating. (Lots of other changes are frustrating too.)

Always thought of Richard Harris as an actor. He has a son who is doing a fair amount of tv roles now. Did he ever have another song other than the cake one? Wondered how that came to be. Totally not relevant but since the discussion was started thought I would add my penny worth

I also think No Recess missed the point of this thread.. to just vent,, and find something to do to "get away" for a bit.. Like the Coffehouse ? thread, or the dinner thread. I personally love them as a bit of distraction

IDK, I think that losing someone who almost never posted anyway is not something I'm going to lose sleep over. I really can't stand the people who post and run and seemingly aren't interested in adding detail or following up, even when you try to commiserate or help you are left wondering if they are even still out there.

My biggest complaint about the new thread is "Where is everyone?" Seems like the whine thread is where all us lost posters are congregating now. Sort of like if you don't hear from me in a while look for me on the whine thread.

If you don't want to whine you can go to General Topics thread where anything is up for discussion. As for people feeling excluded, all you have to do is push your nose in and we'll talk to you. No need to feel like a shrinking violet here.

I remember Richard Harris in the movie "Gladiator" I think maybe that was his last role before he died. Or has he died? I'm not sure. But he had a small part in the beginning of "Gladiator" anyhow. I thought he was a good actor. Much better an actor than a singer IMO.

I just ate a whole big container of yogurt. I'm I gonna have the runs now? If you don't hear from me in a while you'll know what I'm doing anyway. :P Note to self, must buy more toilet paper. :)

I'm just hopping around from thread to thread hoping to bump into someone. NoRecess had a point, nobody has had a really good poop pee can't eat near death beyond burn out and I want to scream whine on this thread for a long time. And that's a good thing.
