Today my hard of hearing mother put a piece of mail up to her ear, said she couldn’t hear cuz my husband and I were talking in a very low volume. I found it really rude. What? We can’t talk in our home? I had already turned up the tv so she could hear. This is all a childish act. Yesterday she told me she hated her life. I think she hates what she can no longer do. I try to take the high road. But it’s a long way up. I get tired. Am I physco?

Glad, let the sweater go. Really. Find a new sweater and tuck your beloved friend in the back of the closet, soon you'll find that you've forgotten all about it. (lol)

Still missing my heavy wool sweater in great condition-sister advised I not wear grey (a deep charcoal grey) when I was in my forties, saying it made me look old.
Would have loved the perfect warmth this winter.....
But then again, it was just a possession, now gone.

Mentholatum ointment on chest, nose-an old time favorite....because I hate to cough.

GrannieAnnie- my knees are giving me trouble this winter, and I have concerns they will just give out in addition to hurting. But as I look outside, it appears spring is arriving, if I can just hold on. A return to "wall walking" I call it, as I get up before my body wants to, holding onto the door frames. I was already healed from this before so still hopeful. And grateful that I never had to buy that walker.

My knee is sprained, I wear a splint, and the knee aches. Lots of walking/limping this week.
I went to walk/limp in -clinic Mon,  sliding the car on local slushy roads.  Tues. I took my aunt to the ER. A friend helped me put Rose in car, and an ER nurse had to physically lift her from the car into a wheelchair. Tests for strep, lung infection, flu etc. negative except for virus.   She got fluids and sent home. Same nurse put her back in car. She froze getting out of car, and I had to peel her fingers off top of car door.
Wed. was worse. She fell in bathroom, unresponsive. Called ambulance. Tests all ok in ER, but she failed the walk test with walker. I refused to take her home, so they admitted her as "Observation." Medicare will cover only 2nights for that. Luckily she did PT, then passed out while sitting on toilet. Finally they are seeing what we've seen. At same time her BP took a dive. She's staying till she goes to rehab Mon. at Mineral Springs, to see if some PT helps her to be more independent in our home again. If not, she will be in a Nursing Home.
I have her cold, am exhausted, and grieving. They now think her heart just can't keep up.  She 'wants to go home.'

GrannieAnnie, I hope your knee feels better soon. Hope Aunt Rose feels better too and that they can get to the bottom of what is going on! It is hard enough getting out in this weather let alone with a bad knee and sick loved ones.

Send, Are you serious about Spring? I am reading that temperatures are going to drop to zero where I am. It keeps snowing. Right now Spring may as well be a place on Mars. I see photos of green leaves on trees and can't imagine that ever coming back.

Drove 80 miles round trip to have hubby and I clean MIL's messy house and then we went to buy her groceries. Oatmeal, potato chips, two bags of chocolate bars, one bag of caramels, and one large bag of chocolate chip cookies. She then announced loudly after us doing all the work that she was NOT going to share any of the cookies or candy. I am so glad my mom was at least generous to the end and grateful for anyone doing her favors to at least offer them something. It seemed so childish of MIL.

A bright scarf is a great idea Grannie.I just hope my Mother doesn't see that I'm wearing gray in Heaven and I really hope she doesn't know about her antiques the kittens broke either.
I'm so sorry about your knee.Be careful while your'e out tomorrow with your dear Aunt Rose. You really do have a big day ahead~

Lu- if it is any consolation. There is no tears in Heaven, no sorrow, no grief, no ill feelings at all. So if your Mother could see your gray clothes and broken antiques, it wouldn't bother her a bit.

Mentholatum is getting harder to find in the stores - one national drug chain looked at me like I was speaking Greek when I asked if they carried it

Right, MsMadge.
CVS pharmacy inside of Target ordered some Mentholatum for me.

Others use Vicks, I prefer Mentholatum.

I’m feeling the need for a treat - not food but totally something unnecessary

I stumbled into a store on the weekend to get a new mattress pad and saw some lovely dishes- even at a discount they’re a bit pricey - I don’t need them but I still want them

Madge, I felt like that the other day. I roamed around the store thinking what should I get myself. I couldn't think of I thing I wanted. So I ended up buying a little brush for getting into the grooves of wood flooring. Cat litter gets caught in these and it annoys me to no end.

So that was my big treat for myself. Something to clean with! Wow, lucky me. Aren't I special! LOL

Funny, I was just thinking about cat litter on the floor today. Drives me nutty too. I have one of those mini vacuums, a Shark, it works ok. I usually end up sitting on the floor with the hose from the big vacuum. Then all of the sudden I realized I had a near perfect solution for getting golden retriever hair up from a indoor/outdoor kitchen carpet, that was a diamond pattern, blue with pink stripes. The house I rented after mom, before my house was ready from post fire construction.

I thought gosh an adhesive lint roller would work great! But, really did not want to be sitting on the floor to do it. Was there such a think as an adhesive lint roller on a mop length handle? Yup!

That will work great for the cat litter problem I am having, I think. But will try the hand roller first. And think how quick it would work, if it will.

Glad, I have a Hoover mini vacuum thats supposed to be great for cat hair but it really isn't powerful enough. I spent 45 mins. today vacuuming the couches and cushions etc. My lower back was so sore by the time I was finished. Then I trimmed my cats claws. Which is hard to do by myself. Usually Hubs is here to help. I got a big soft blanket and wrapped him up in it and went for it. It's amazing what you can do if you want to do it enough.

I bought two new-to-me vacs for new apartment, plus have a Shark that works well. Seems excessive, yes? But I needed a cordless stick for the daily litter mess and I bought this Bissell Adapt Ion Pet 2-in-1 cordless. That thing is convenient for quick daily pick ups of hair floofs in corners and litter tracked everywhere. It has a handheld you can remove from the stick part, too.

And I bought a Eufy robot vac... but still haven't programmed it yet to do daily runs. That's a good thing to work on tomorrow for Polar Vortex Day when no one's going outside. lol

I also use a litter mat for cats to step on when they come out of the box. That helps, every little thing helps imo.

One way or another, I WILL get the cat hair and litter under control at my place. lol

Good job, Gershun. And yes, I agree that "where there's a will, there's a way."

Everybody in the area of the extreme weather please stay inside and safe!

Lu, can you also cover the outside cat's boxes with tarps or blankets?

The wild creatures manage to survive in the cold and outdoor semi feral cats will be much better off than they are. Temps here are -6F this a.m., cold enough but nothing like people get regularly on the prairies. I see Winnipeg is -37F, now that's cold!

I ve always wondered how little birds with their stick-like little legs can survive extreme cold, or even squirrels and chipmunks. Must be cold bloodedness or metabolism...It is -5 here this morning.
(3)
Report

The chipmunks hibernate Katie, and when it's really cold the squirrels hunker down together in their nests and don't come out. I know foxes, coyotes etc will den up but animals like deer are too big so I guess they just have to crowd together in a sheltered spot. I always used to make sure I put suet out for the birds in bitter weather, but of course with my squirrel feeding neighbours I haven't been able to find a way to do that since moving here.

Siri tells me it's minus 16 degrees F outside right now. 😵😳 I felt the apartment was getting too cold last night, even though thermostat is on 70, so I turned it up to 74 and now feels much better. The sun is shining here, coming right through the south facing windows, so that's nice. Just.... wow. It's SO COLD OUTSIDE.
