Olive oil is healing too

I have chronic itchy ears and sometimes use it

Using a saline nasal spray might help....it’s a natural product, relatively cheap at any pharmacy and can be used many times a day. It’s easier to use than a nasal wash.

Gershun ~ I use a product for what you described-- Maty's Breathe Better. It's an all natural ointment; I quirt some on q tip and rub inside my nose. It works great to address the chronic dryness and scabbing I have, ever since the MOLD HOUSE at my grandmother's. Symptoms are much better these days but that's why I got it, for symptoms like you describe and it helps. I think someone on AC turned me on to that product.

Gershun - try k-y jelly on a cotton swab.Vaseline or mineral oil if you don't have any k-y, but they say we shouldn't put petroleum products in the nose because with prolonged use they can get in the lungs.

I work full time and care for my older disabled husband. I know he is frustrated, but he takes his anger and frustration out on me. He has COPD and constantly hacks up phlegm, even at the dinner table. If I complain he gets mad and says he can’t help it. I’m lonely and tired, feel like I’m getting depressed and anxious. I worry about what would happen if I ever got really sick.

Wow, you guys really came through for me with the nose responses. I woke up today with the usual scab in my nose. I'm going to just try to leave it alone today. I think I have something here I can use. I was too lazy to go out today to go buy something. But Thx everybody!

Hope it gets better Gershun.
I know it sounds gross, but I always thought they should have some sort of nasal thing kinda like a ear plug. Don't know how else to describe it. Because when I have head cold issues, which I am thankful has been a while I always take tissue and put Mentholatum on it and stick it up my nose. Keeps you from drying out and also keeps the passages open and clear. Just saying.
(3)
Report

Gershun,
A humidifier can help prevent dryness in your nose, like Glad has said.
Mentholatum under your nose, and on the outside opens up passageways, resulting in less dried snot.
Turning the heat down before bed.
Taking a warm washcloth over your face as you fall asleep. Put a tray on the bed to place it on so the bed so it won't get wet.

If you dont have a humidifier or a mister, boil some water, place the teapot of hot water near your bed, but be careful the cats don't knock it over.

Some meds dry out your mouth and nose too.

Or maybe since it's offending me I should just chop it off.

Sorry, couldn't resist. ;)

This isn't a whine but more of a comment. I have been having the weirdest sensations in my bladder area tonight. It is almost like a warm feeling but also similar to when I used to have menstrual cramps.

I have never experienced anything similar before.

Dear TiredinWI,
Sounds like your plate is overflowing! A full time job AND taking care of your disabled husband is a lot, with no time for you. Plus the bad weather doesn't help.

Any way someone could give you a day off (to sit with him) while you go pamper yourself? You can't ignore yourself all the time.

We all sympathize with how exhausted you are, as most of us have been there ourselves. Can you apply for any state or government assistance? Check with your community senior center or social services office.

Sending you a big bear hug. ((((squeeze))))

Stacey,
I can sympathize with moving. We are packing up everything, leaving Tijuana (finally!) and heading for Puerto Vallarta, México. The living room looks like a rat maze, as we dodge 7 foot tall stacks of boxes. Where did we get all this stuff?
I am persevering however, as I am tired of being cold (Mexican houses have no heaters) and will welcome the balmy, warm breezes. Hubs and I will live about 10 blocks from the beach and I plan to have a Margarita with my toes in the sand the 2nd day we're there.

Gershun,
Sounds like it could be a bladder infection. Do you have urgency, frequency or different color urine? Increase your fluid intake (cranberry juice is good). If it doesn't go away in a couple of days, get your doctor to do a dipstick.

Sue, why wait until that second day for that margarita and sand? I think you will be ready upon arrival.

Sand and a margarita? That sounds fabulous! Good luck Sue on the move. Sounds well worth it!

Tired, if you can, take a little time for yourself here and there. Even little moments add up like a good cup of coffee or tea, or watching a sunrise or set for a few moments. I call these little things deposits in the "bank of me" to keep myself going. Yesterday I realized I pretty much was a caregiver for 22 years for my mom and at the end it was 24/7 when she was bedridden in my home. Now MIL is still living on her own but needing more help. I had a year's break 3 yrs. ago before SIL died as she was living with MIL....I wouldn't get through all this without those small moments I take for myself.

Middle nephew has been in training to join our national police force and got the news today he will be assigned to a little town in the middle of nowhere northern AB. He's over 30 and has a common law spouse who needs a job, not to mention it's time to start thinking about having kids. My heart breaks for him, the whole process has been so medieval.

stacey!!! wow you are getting there.. Hope the move goes well,

ongong nose issues are a pain, Sometimes I use a little Tea Tree oil. I seem to tolerate it well but the same caution must be there there as for petroleum. Saline rinses are good ad safe.

gershun, I hope you don't have a bladder infection

sue - yay, you are moving to a warmer place Enjoy!!!

tired - yes take a little time for yourself. As katie says, the little things add up and make a difference.

cw- now you must pm me and tell me where he is going, It's not north of were I am but there are lots of little one horse towns to the south of us. It wouldn't start with B would it?

To me there is no worse months than the last half of January, all of February...and the first part of March. Had cabin fever, so I drove out in driving rain to mail a letter and check mailbox...then after driving through pot holes, mud, and trash strewn streets outside of this condo complex, I was glad to be trapped inside once again. The lesser of 2 evils I guess. Someday the sun will shine again and hopefully I will feel better. I could do things inside but I have that depressed "whats the use?" feeling...

Katie,
I think you will feel better when the season changes.
In the meantime, getting even 15 minutes of sunshine may help.
All that work you did to shut out the noise, now open up the windows and curtains! I can still hear my brother's voice, over 20 years ago, he
dropped by for a visit, and throwing open the drapes, said: "No wonder you are depressed, who wouldn't be sitting in a dark house!"
It is good you got out!
Extreme weather permitting.

My brother is still a grouch.

You have heard of S A D ?
Seasonal Affective Disorder?

I keep wondering, what am I supposed to be doing, what's the use?

Feel better soon.

Oh thank God there's this thread to gripe on.

We must have 50 boxes piled near the ceiling in the living room BECAUSE WE ARE MOVING. (Emphasis put for husbands benefit.)
I guess he's embarrassed that the house looks like a rat maze (to him-everything has it's place) and he's even fibbed to certain friends that he's not home so they won't come by and see our "messy" house. (They would understand that we're moving, I'm sure.)
I know how much work this is and he's riding a wave of anxiety about it, but why? It will work out fine. You can't help anything by worrying your brains out. He's been more than difficult to deal with (headaches, depression, etc.) and I can't wait til it's all over!

Aaaaaahhhhhhh! 😫

There, I feel better now. Deep breaths from now on.
Margarita on the beach here I come! 🌊🌴🌞🍸

Sue, when my Hubs and I moved a year and a half ago he was like a slave driver. I was battling Mononucleosis and he was barking orders. He spent most of his time wandering around like a foreman at a construction site while I did everything. I was almost tempted to start singing "well I've been working in a chain gang"

Never Again!

Katie, I've had that "what's the point" thing going on for a while now. It's beautiful and sunny here today too, but cold. I went and grabbed a coffee but really couldn't get inspired to do much more than that. Sigh..................

-8 degrees tonight, freezing all day, and all day tomorrow.... front door stuck shut, trudging through ice, snow, and wind up to the horse field to feed them (poor little boys, they're both 24 yrs old and have to stay outside.... except they DO have a shelter.... do you think they use it? No no; they both had ice on their backs this afternoon! (I've been watching Liz Wheeler on You Tube lately, so now I talk like her). It WILL be spring eventually, won't it?

My whine for the day: I’ve been going to the gym 4-5 days a week for about 2 months. Have not lost even ONE pound -nor has there been any shifting....ugh!

I hear you about the weight that just won't budge. The only time I lose weight is if I am in a major crises mode.
This has been the week from h$ll with that factory through the woods...they cranked up the noise on Superbowl Sunday, not that I cared too much about the Superbowl, but am surprised the workers agreed to come in Sunday...and it has been cranking ever since...even all night. Woke 3:30 am to the uptick in noise. Iam trying to figure out the sounds and when they occur...usually it is a hollow "wongwongwong", but then sometimes it sounds like an old bullfrog, "gronkagronkagronka" . At the end of last month it was down to 2 days and one night a week but they have escalated decibel level and now 24 hrs a day. Wondering if the first week of each month is the worst. These places were expensive, very nice kitchens etc, and now this...I could have gotten a home a whole lot cheaper near an industrial park. Visions of strangling the developer, Lol ( sort of Lol), ....I have a couple of sound machines and 2 air cleaners running to sort of drown it out. I am giving it 2 years and if MIL is still alive then I will still move around here and if not, I am hoping for a better climate.
People on this thread have been so helpful in making suggestions, more helpful than anyone else I know....thanks to all of you, and hope you all are getting through this weather or whatever is occurring for you.

Our house deal is 100% completed, we closed yesterday and got Everything all moved out and the house all cleaned, it is Sign Sealed and $$$ delivered, and Boy does it feel GOOD!!!

We are all moved now and into my Sister's MIL apartment, where we will stay until we purchase a Condo, but for now we are in Rest and Recovery mode. We Need a Vacation!

My husband, bless his heart, worked like a dog to get it all done and he deserves to be pampered these next few days, so I guess I will need to hire somebody to do that, LOL!

We had a few inches of snow a few days ago, and starting today, we will be having a Major snow storm moving through with 6-8 inches more expected, which is a pretty huge deal for the Seattle area, especially because we have such hilly terrain. NOBODY knows how to drive in the snow here, so it basically shuts down the City.

You all take care in this crazy weather we all seem to be having, and SUE, good luck with your move!
