Geaton, hope you feel better soon. I am sorry you tested positive for Covid and have side effects. I understand it is not a severe case. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Sending my prayers to you.

Geaton,

Okay, I see. That makes sense.

Timing needs to be right but he told her that he wasn’t going to bother with getting tested.

I feel like your husband is doing the best thing. I would want to know if I had it.

My cousin thinks she caught hers at work. She manages a retail clothing store. She goes to work, then goes home. So, she says that has to be where she caught it. She says the only other places she goes is to the grocery and gas station.

Grocery & gas stations... High traffic places that people visit frequently, especially early when infectious (before they realise they have symptoms). How often are those gas pump handles cleaned? (I wear disposable gloves).

Doggy poop bags are great for handling germy gas pump handles.

CW, Chicago is definitely headed that way, too, because there is a such a steep increase in covid cases lately. The city is also vaccinating at a stunning rate though, too. I'm waiting to see how this will all play out.

Ali,

Chicago is in my thoughts. I hope that it doesn’t take a turn for the worst.

Vaccines? What vaccines?
We've supposedly been "ramping up" for at least 6 weeks now and we're STILL just in phase 1 (over 70 and forward facing healthcare workers).

It's these f***ing variants, great grandma and gramps are vaccinated but hospitalization of younger people is exploding.

CWillie, I think it's also the fact that millions still will not acknowledge that a pandemic is in place, they won't distance, and they won't wear masks.    I'm not a medical person but I think that as long as people refuse to compromise like the rest of us, there are going to be more cases, and more spreading of the virus.  The mutations merely compromise what already in place.

Did you by any chance see the photos of the so-called spring breaks in Florida?  People were very close, it not packed into the crowds.   I couldn't tell how many, if any were masked, but the ones I saw were not.   And their mouths were open, yelling or celebrating or whatever.  I kept thinking of how much they were contributing to the spread of the virus.

GA - that's why many (most?) Canadians shudder when we hear the border states making noises about pushing to reopen the border between our countries, most people here are doing their best and we still can't seem to get ahead of things.

I've been working on my taxes again. I know I said I couldn't do it any more but I already have the software and I am determined to figure it out. So far I've got a $300 refund showing, I'm happy with that (even if it isn't right) 😐

My whine.... I am on the NextDoor neighborhood forum. If the power goes out somewhere nearby, it is like the start of the end of the earth. There are at least 50 answers to the original postings "is your power out?"

Then come a bunch of postings that someone saw a power truck going down their street. Then come a couple of dozen posts that their lights are back on but, oh my gosh, the lights are flickering.

Have we become so spoiled that we can't sit the dark [or by lanterns or candles or the light of the moon] for a couple of hours? Guess some people have lost their pioneering spirit.... [sigh] Or are in a panic they can't recharge their phones. The kids may need to actually talk to each other !!

I admit I hate being in a totally dark room when the power does out at night, I lose my sense of balance, so I have those power-off lights that come on for an hour or so. And a lot of battery/solar powered lanterns :) It's like camping out indoors.

I'm with you FF. When the power goes out here I crawl into bed and cuddle with the kitties. I think covid has shown who has their sh*t together and who will fall apart at the slightest inconvenience.

People here are so bent out of shape that they can't dine out anymore. Oh boo hoo. Cry me a river. Sigh........

Update: My hub's 2nd covid test was again negative right before Easter. Still no symptoms, even though we've not been actively distancing in our home, sleep in the same bed, share a bathroom, share food... He plays hockey 3x a week and had attended in-person meetings with people who then got covid. I'm glad he hasn't gotten it but it's such a strange mystery that he "seems" immune. He thinks he might have had it back in December because he was "pretty sick" (that's man-speak for your average cold). But if this is true, why didn't I and the others in my house get it? So weird...

I follow another forum where there has been a lot of chat about the capricious nature of the virus Geaton, sometimes spouses who share a bed haven't gotten it while in other cases whole families have gotten sick from casual, short time contact. And although we now know that some factors put people at risk of severe illness there are people who don't fit that criteria who are nonetheless becoming very ill or who are suffering from long covid - it's truly an unpredictable disease 🤔

I am just so tired. Things I do to take care of myself and find balance just tire me out more. Supposedly good things like physical exercise, eating healthy, even meditation just deplete me. Sometimes I sit still in silence and stare at a wall and that is the only thing I like. I suppose this too shall pass.

((((((ginger))))))

My whine is that my allergy to the current kitty litter is escalating so I have to do a thorough clean of the two basement rooms where the litter boxes are, after my meds has kicked in.

Plan 1: change to old clothes, double mask and maybe wear gloves, wash all pillows, cat beds etc., throw out anything else I can, toss all kitty litter and replace with the one remaining kind which I hope I don't have an allergy to, sweep/vacuum, wash the floor, then strip off my clothes and throw them in the laundry, go upstairs to shower and wash my hair.

Plan 2: ask dd to do it.

I'll see how well the meds act before I decide.

Ginger, sometimes trying to be healthy is so tiring. Staring at a wall with a good cup of your favorite beverage sounds more relaxing. HUGS!

As for me. I'm more paranoid about covid now than I've been since it started. Cases are worse here in B.C. than when covid first started. We're averaging 1000 cases a day now.😫

Will we ever be able to go maskless again? Sigh....

Golden hope you solve your kitty litter problem. We use one here called Easy Clean which we purchase at the vet's office.

So sorry to hear that B.C./Canada cases are rising! Foolish is to open the county when the numbers of new cases are worse than the numbers when we first shut down in SoCal. Idiots!

It is not paranoid to respond with wisdom and being careful in a pandemic.

When the going gets tough, creative people make safer, designer masks!

I am going to color my hair so that the virus is not living in and amongst my hair roots. If I am going to get sick, maybe die, I would rather do it as a blonde!

Blondes don't have more fun though Send. At least if they do then I've been missing out cause I was born blonde, I stay that way with a little help but can't say that I've been having much fun lately.

If I'm posting in the wrong spot, please forgive me. I just found this topic, and boy do I need to whine (or b*tch).
My husband has dementia. As many of the rest of you know, dementia patients get fixated on things. His is watches. Tomorrow, I am going to buy him his 8th watch. It will make him happy, but I hate to waste the money on something he doesn't need. Every watch he sees, he wants. I usually throw out all the catalogs that have watch ads in them, but this one got past me!!!
(3)
Report

Maple have you tried just getting one of his old watches, cleaning it so it sparkles and just giving it back to him. I know it may sound cruel but if he has dementia he may not notice and you've saved yourself some money.

When my mom was still alive and was living in nursing care she would say she wanted something and I'd run out and buy it for her. A pair of binoculars she tried once, a cuddly new robe she wore once or twice, makeup she tried once only cause I gave her a facial and applied it for her once. I think the workers there must of stole it cause I never saw it again after that.

But you get my point. Good Luck!

Gershun,
I would have to disagree with you. I had lots of fun when I was a blond...30 yrs ago! LOL!!

Send,
You are so funny! However, you do have a good point! Which reminds me that I need to dye my hair again! I am a red head; I am thinking red with blond highlights. Time to change things up!🙃

I pray that both of you are staying safe!💜🐈🐦

I have always been blonde Shell so have nothing to compare it to. Maybe if I had tried a different color when I was young I'd of thought Hey yeah, blonde was more fun! Since I'm pushing 60 now I think I'll just let myself stay blonde and keep wondering what if. LOL

Aw Send. Shucks! I don't think of myself as any great example. Mind you, I've always been sooooo hard on myself. I need to start giving myself a break I think.

I recently got my hair highlited. At first I hated it but it's been two weeks now and I'm actually happy with it now. It looks natural. For a while I was over highliting it and I think maybe it was too harsh But now it looks sun kissed and shines where it should.
