Well, years ago I tried on a blonde wig for fun. I looked absolutely hideous! LOL, I will never know if blondes have more fun.

I had a neighbor who died her hair red, blonde and brown.

My kids thought that I was boring with the same old hair color! LOL 😆

I don’t know how she did it but I swear she looked good no matter what color her hair was!

I have grey highlights, does that count?

Need, when I was younger my hair was naturally very very blonde, almost white blonde. Coupled with blue eyes, every time we holidayed in Europe people would start talking to me in German, as apparently I looked more German than English! Do blondes have more fun? Well I always suffered from the prejudice (from men mostly) that blondes were complete dumb airheads. It was very tiresome to be treated like that when I have a good science degree from a top university and was the top student in my year. Nowadays I feel the prejudice from being middle aged, which can make us invisible to many younger people who we do business with.

Maple, I had to laugh at your DH’s fixation with watches. My elderly neighbour’s husband went into a care home when his dementia got too much for her at home. Every time she visited he complained that his watch wasn’t working. We both had a good laugh about it. Why did he need a watch in his care home? There were clocks everywhere and it wasn’t as though he had a bus, plane or train to catch and couldn’t be late. Laughter was the best medicine for my neighbour in that case.

My dementia-suffering FIL got fixated about the house alarm. One day my DH visited to find him standing in the hall wearing just his underwear, with an electric drill in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other, planning to cut the alarm wires and drill the control box out of the wall! It was a crisis at the time and not long after that he went into a care home for his own and the rest of the family’s safety, but we can laugh about it now, and there’s no guilt in that. It’s just a way of coping with the situation!

My whine moment today? I was having my yoga session when my mother rang the alarm button she has to call for help. I ran downstairs to see what she needed. She wanted me to take her to the toilet... But she still can't get out of bed...
And then the phone rang... Twice! And of coyrse I am home alone: husband took son to American football training. My son is a fan of NFL!

Gershun the thing I love about hi lights is the grey blends in alot longer, or at least it does on me. My dad had no grey until he was in his 60, and so far I am taking after him,, at 62 only a few have popped up, and they sort of blend into the highlites. I only get mine redone 4 times a year, so far so good!

Gershun,
I have had every shade of blond, every shade of red, brown, black and when I was a teenager I had rainbow colors before it was cool. I have also had highlights and lowlights. You name it and I had it. I even had part of my head shaved. My parents were so thrilled of my wacky hair colors, styles, with going to big to-dos parties or just going out in public. Back than people really didn't do the things they do today.

Send,
I am so not a good example. LOL! I am sure you are not ugly! You just don't feel like yourself because you haven't had your hair done. Get it Done!!!🙃

I think I had fun being a blond because I was a teenager. But I had more fun having long black hair with a blue tint to it! Talk about getting strange looks! LOL!!

I did have some purple in the underside layers of my hair for a while. It looked good but then I got tired of it.

Our UK hairdressers are allowed to open from next Monday. My hairdresser called me a few weeks ago to book me in. Goodness knows what she will think of my hair. I actually allowed my husband to cut it in January as it was driving me crazy. He ended up razoring it so I looked like something out of the 1970s! I've been hiding it under a winter hat, but now that Spring is here, that's not so easy. One day, in the future, we will laugh about this....

I haven't been to the hairdresser for 6 months. I will book... I would like to have some dark purple high lights on my dark brown hair (with some silver now... Well white actually 😉)

Maybe it will be easier to move cities than to crawl back to my hairdresser... They reopened ages ago but I've actually got used to my daughter doing the odd haircut 🙂. She does a good job I think but I'm sure my regular hairdresser will be horrified.. now I am too scared to go back... 😅. If it's bad she will be tell me off but if too good will assume I went elsewhere. You can NEVER go elsewhere while you belong to one cutter! I made that mistake once - being impulsive on a camping holiday - walking into the small town's salon to go for a short cut. Well. My (then) hairdresser was so incensed! Gave me an awful wash & cut. I had cheated & would be punished.

So glad when she retired 🙄.

Beatty, I've often wondered why hairdressers have such thin skin. I think for what women pay for haircuts etc. we should have the right to pick and choose who we want doing our hair for pete's sake. A good stylist should want you to be happy and if that means choosing another hair stylist tough titties. Last time I got my hair done it came to almost $300.00 after the tip which according to what I've read should be 20 percent. I also read that if you don't tip according to their scale that you may be disappointed the next time you go. What a racket!

I don't want to be tied down to one stylist, I go to the walk in and take whichever stylist is available place and I'm incensed that since covid the price has gone up to $25 🤣.

I have short hair and long long ago when transferring and finances prevented me a trip to get a hair cut, I learned to do it myself. Got pretty good, so when COVID came I got my scissors out and like riding a bike I got my skills back. Yeah, scary and time consuming the first few times, but with mirror with magnify and small steps you can do it!!

I must confess lest I sound like some kind of hair snob that the main reason I go to higher end hair places is cause due to having really fine hair I've had my hair and scalp damaged badly when I've gone to cheaper places.

Having said that $300.00 dollars is highway robbery. 🙁

I never thought of myself as having allergies when I was young because I was comparing myself to my sibs whose allergies were severe, but looking back I know that I used to deal with minor symptoms back then. As I've gotten older I've only occasionally had a reaction to "something" a few times a year, today I am in misery despite the allergy tablets, decongestant spray and eye drops - I even had a shower and changed my clothes after coming inside. It's a lovely mild day and I'm afraid to go out again or open a window. This sucks.

I colored it myself tonight and am feeling more myself.

I broke out the expired Flonase, and that will cure my allergies after 3-4 doses, I am hoping. I hate to take it, but as a last resort, this one time only.

I am really tired of hearing from people how ‘wonderful’ it is that my mom is 95! It’s gotten to the point that I wish some people wouldn’t ask. You know, the ex neighbor that you run into at the grocery or the old friend of a sibling, people we know but aren’t close with.

What in the world is ‘wonderful’ about being 95, bed bound and in hospice?

Honestly, do these people even realize what they are saying to the child of a parent who has suffered for many years?

I doubt that they know what they are saying. It’s a case of, they don’t know what they don’t know. Even if they mean well, it’s annoying.

So, my solution is to not even respond. I truly don’t have the energy to ‘educate’ someone on the matter. Let them figure it out themselves or hear it from someone else.

At this point in time, I am tired of it all. I need to nourish my own needs. It’s not worth the effort because too many times people will only hear what they want to hear.

My mom made it to 99 so I heard a lot of comments about how "wonderful" that was, but what really drove me crazy were the ones about looking forward to her 100th birthday. Tthat was especially galling when it came from someone who knew exactly what king of shape she was in... so you think it would be wonderful to live longer like this, uhm, really?🙄
And you'll get the comments from those who tell you how lucky you are to still have your mother (or father) and how they'd do anything to have theirs back. Well sure I'd like my parents back - as they were in their prime. And I'd like my 25 year old body back too.😏

Thanks, cwille

I really needed to hear comforting words right now.

I really try not to let small things get to me but sometimes I feel so exhausted from everything. I don’t want anything else on my plate.

I don’t blame you for getting annoyed at the mention of a 100th birthday. My word, your mom was 99 and they still didn’t let up, grrrrr!

I don’t know if it is normal but if I get really exasperated I feel queasy and completely lose my appetite. I force myself to cook for my husband or he will go pick something up just for him.

I like to cook but not when I am nauseous. I have always been this way. If I am overly tired or upset the first thing to go is my appetite.

cwille,

Exactly! We would all like our parents back and to be well again.

My dad was ready to go when he died. He was tired of suffering.

Mom is ready to be with my father!

cwille,

Hahaha, about the 25 year old body back again!

Years ago I had one friend who had an overhaul on her body, all at once too. Lord knows what she spent on her boob lift, liposuction, botox, etc.

Another friend mentioned that she wanted a boob lift like our other friend. She did look great while ours sagged! LOL 😆

Anyway, she had an expensive cruise planned. Her husband told her that she had to pick one because they couldn’t afford both. She picked the cruise and said that she went out an bought a new uplifting bra! 😂 LOL

I agree with both of you about turning 100. I always chuckle to myself when on the news they show some old person who is celebrating a milestone b'day. Their family is gathered round all aglow while grand ma or pa is sitting there drooling in their chair with no teeth. What are they going to do? Gum their b'day cake?

Hey, if you are over 100 and still thriving, great! But how often does that really happen?
