I'm tired of cooking/preparing 3 meals a day. It's just the two of us but boy oh boy can that woman eat!! She stays slimish, I get fattish. It's bad enough I do everything here much less start making her one thing and me the other. At times I feel guilty when I buy her fast food cuz of the nutritional value....not to mention I eat it too.
The refusal to cooperate even just in masking is a national disgrace. I won't address the political issues though. But the jeopardy created by people toward their families, friends and others b/c of their own "interpretation" of the reality of the virus is despicable and irresponsible, especially when extended to the people who did mask but still were infected, may have lasting complications, or didn't survive.
It's time for the noncompliant people to grow up and act like adults. This comment will probably generate negative responses, but they won't change my opinion. As disastrous as it is, the pandemic is not the worst that could happen:
1. We could be living in a country like Afghanistan, in the midst of more disastrous friction, fighting and worse. We could be living in Syria, subject to years of vicious fighting and political manipulation by countries seeking dominance.
2. We could be living in very poor countries, with negligible distribution systems, poor sanitation conditions, and worse.
We could be living in third world countries w/o adequate medical treatment or access to it, especially countries reliant on Doctors W/o Borders for assistance.
3. We could be living in countries where political oppression or turmoil, guerilla activity and more (some South American countries come to mind) prevents any kind of rational and successful effort to address the pandemic.
Fortunately, we don't have to personally address these disastrous issues. We've had to make some sacrifices for a little over a year and a half, but we have the benefit of some top notch medical people and facilities. We have an active (if not sometimes misleading) informational system. We have a lot more assets and benefits, which I'm sure most of us recognize.
For those who feel sorry for themselves, may I politely suggest researching the VA's efforts to help wounded military, to provide them with prostheses, to provide support through PTSS, and more? Can you imagine your life after being wounded, or caught in an IED explosion situation?
Wearing a mask is a piece of cake compared to the sacrifice of losing a limb, or vision, or speech, or living a life after suffering a TBI.
When I read of the rescission of mask mandates, I anticipated that some people would consider this a type of emancipation, drop their guard and behave as they did before the pandemic. I've already seen this in the few places I've been - no masks, no social distancing...back to normal "life is all about me" status.
So I started stocking up again, anticipating a significant if not catastrophic rise in cases, more hospitalizations up to the maximum capacity, more deaths, and more political whining about how someone's life is being disrupted.
Too many Americans are used to comfort, limited sacrifice, and failure to understand "the common good." Those people are IMHO going to cause a reversal that could be worse (b/c of the DELTA variant) than we've experienced so far. I do hope though that I'm wrong, and also hope that the innocent people affected and/or infected by these selfish people are limited, and are able to get treatment and survive the next round, which is coming, sooner or later.
I think the discussion thus far has been helpful, polite, insightful and relevant. I won't even bother to address criticisms, from those who think they don't need to mask, be careful, and follow medical advice. There is nothing I could say or write that would change those attitudes, nor would I try.
And I want to thank all those who've expressed concern, who stand up for their beliefs and insist that tradespeople and visitors mask, and who have the insight and courage to recognize that this pandemic is far from over.
Glad, I'll have you in my thoughts as you go through the procedures scheduled, and hope that you come through them "with flying colors!"

COVID is a concern for those who are alone like you, especially if there aren’t good medical facilities in your area. I suppose that you would have to go to the nearest community that had care.

One large one which cultivates publicity was sued by some of its own doctors on the basis of malpractice. It seems to want to be a Taubman (real estate developer) more than a hospital, now having gone into retail store development. I've heard a rumor that it's described as where to go if you're ready to die.
The one which we used to go to regularly has been acquired by a for profit entity which has resulted in a massive layoff, nurses striking just for specific types of breaks, and the reputation of having deteriorated. I saw some of that when Dad was there for the last time.
Another fairly good chain was acquired by another hospital collector; I don't know if the decent standards it maintained have been compromised, but its newsletter has deteriorated, and that's a bad sign.
One nonprofit chain seems to still be a decent hospital, but I haven't been there since Dad died, so I have no recent experience. Another for profit chain was good, even had an organic garden to grow food for the patients' meals, but now it's in the first (exploratory and investigative) stage of merger with the hospital chain that has the reputation for malpractice. This bad hospital has been in potential mergers with at least 2 other systems; the deal always fell through, after the potential mate performed its due diligence.
The best hospitals in my opinion are closer to Ann Arbor, which also has a teaching hospital, but it's a long drive from my area, especially in winter, although if I can find the right place I may move to that area.

Some medical facilities are definitely better than others. You’re right about buy outs. That happens too.
She is trying to keep up her spirits. I wonder how many people will become infected with COVID at her job.
About needing a clear test before she can return to work: the advice we were given was to cease PCR testing for 90 days from the end of quarantine: because the PCR picks up any stray shreds of DNA you're *going* to test positive even if there is no complete/active virus in your system at all. She might want to clarify exactly what's required.

Tech support promised a response with 6 hours; that was either Friday or Saturday; can't remember. Response: nothing. I finally found a way to trick the system though.
NeedHelpWithMom, how is your daughter today? From what I've read (and I'm not sure how reliable any of the news reports are any more), having been vaccinated mitigates against the severity of an infection, so hopefully this will be a mild experience, and over quickly, very quickly!
CountryMouse, I must have missed earlier posts as I was unaware that you had Covid. Someone on another forum, a backpacker and in good health, also suffered the loss of smell issue, and also is finally regaining limited sensations. His bout was at least 6 months ago as well.

My daughter called me a short while ago and said that she felt a bit better this morning and hopes that she will continue to feel better.
The Delta variant is a different animal. I wish that more people would get vaccinated, so these mutations wouldn’t keep occurring. As long as COVID is spreading, we will keep having more mutations. That how it works!
I wonder if her office will go back to wearing masks. They relaxed the masks rules after everyone got vaccinated. They also say that cloth mask aren’t as effective as N95 for the Delta variant.
Her company ordered everyone to work from home for two weeks. They are deep cleaning and sanitizing.
She works in a cubicle. She doesn’t have a private office. I know that some places have plexiglass around themselves.

I decided to treat my niece to lunch today. I told her a few days ago to take some time and go to a restaurant for lunch, I was hoping it was a stress free fun time for her. Well her lunch arrived and half way through the waitress came over with a folk and took the plate and put it in a box, my niece still had her folk in hand. She ordered dessert and she packed that as well. Niece thought oh it must be Covid problem. She called me to check on my mom and I asked if she enjoyed her lunch and then she told me about it. I told her I could call the manager of the restaurant and said no need. I was aggrevated that my niece could not finish her lunch so I did call and spoke to a lovely manager. She could not believe the waitress. She wanted my niece to go back which she did and presented her with a $30 gift card. She is going to have a meeting with all staff. Niece was happy I called. Told her she should have called the manager over to her table.
Why did the waitress pack up her lunch?
Anyone would be surprised by this action. I am reminded of a stint on Candid Camera where this happened. The people sat down to enjoy a meal and as soon as they were about to take a bite, the server took the food away! LOL

I am glad that it worked out. Your niece will still be able to enjoy her meal out and you were extremely fair by giving them a chance to correct an issue. I do the same. I ask for an explanation and am pleased if the other party is willing to correct the matter.
