I'm tired of cooking/preparing 3 meals a day. It's just the two of us but boy oh boy can that woman eat!! She stays slimish, I get fattish. It's bad enough I do everything here much less start making her one thing and me the other. At times I feel guilty when I buy her fast food cuz of the nutritional value....not to mention I eat it too.
Apparantly the waitress was new and thought a time limit was still being enforced but just the same it was ridiculous to say the least. Niece then gave her a decent tip. She told me the waitress was very nice. No time to ask CM the waitress took her food and boxed it up quickly.I guess she wanted to clean and sanitize the table. It was 3:00 in the afternoon and just a few people in the restaurant. My niece was a bit shocked.
NeedHelp I never thought about Candid Camera. I used to watch it years ago.I enjoyed the humor.
So of course everyday is almost identically clockwork routine that I get myself up about an hour before 96 y.o. mom gets up, and have my coffee and coffeecake, read emails, play Publisher's Clearing House, turn TV on for Grey's Anatomy.
Then Mom gets up ... I know because I hear the walker back and forth between her bedroom and the bathroom and then opens door to living room. She looks sweetly at me and tries to get me to take the dog out, but I'm trying to keep her as independent as possible and ask if she could do it, as I do it all the rest of the day. So while she takes the dog out back from the patio, I fix her coffee, coffeecake, pills ( 16 of them ) into the little shot-sized cup, and a glass of water, and set it all down by her chair. She's a trooper and takes all of them at once.
Then the day goes by, watching tv, up for lunch, up for potty breaks, and back to the bedroom later on to change out of pjs. More tv, and so goes the day, until supper time, more tv, and bedtime. I am her constant companion.
So today it's just so pretty, albeit, hot as ?? and I sneak out onto the patio (not really sneaking, but she can't hear well, and I get tired of yelling and repeating, and her peripheral vision sucks, so I make it onto the patio and sit and use my computer, talk on the phone and relax for awhile.... alone :)
Later, Mom comes onto the patio and very ACCUSINGLY says HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN OUT HERE ??!!! I WAS SCARED !! and then walks back in a huff to the living room and watches tv again.
OMG.. so I am just tired all over again tonight. There's no reasoning or explaining possible.... just trying to ignore it again. She's narcissistic, so there was never any empathy from her, and hand in hand with that, never any inkling on her part just how exhausting caregiving is. Everything always ends up in being poor her .... because of course everything is about her, never about me, because there is no me. In her mind I am her.
I feel for you. Do you have any arranged 'sitters' a few times a week?
Perhaps as people age and start to decline they lose that skill and become infantile. Going backwards so to speak. It makes sense.
I LOVED CANDID CAMERA!!!
I would have loved to be on that show! It was so funny! They were constantly playing jokes on secretaries. All of the jokes were hilarious.
They had a new show come out later with the son of the original host. I loved the show that was set in a grocery store. After the cashier rang up their purchase, she would ask the customer if they wanted their purchase to be gift wrapped! 😂 LOL
Another show that was cute was set in a park that had a hiking trail. The hikers were stopped and given tickets for walking too fast!
It’s a good thing that I wasn’t born a twin. I would have been tempted to be one of those kids who played jokes on people. Twins have a lot of fun doing that. I had twins in my neighborhood that were constantly playing jokes on people.
That’s funny but annoying at the same time.
Oh my goodness.
Sad whine. 39 yo daughter having major back issues. Spent all day yesterday in the ER, no solution.
Just found my cousin has just gone on hospice; has a rare blood cancer and was just also dx'ed with ALS. So sad about this.
And your cousin too.
Thanks for asking Barb I an doing great! Pain level maybe 2, going off narco to Tylenol.
glad - so happy for you that you are doing so well, and the pain is not bad. Yay!!!
Sending prayers for your cousin and daughter.
One of my work assistants worked for the local cell provider company. She said that sometimes if you answer the call and say nothing that your number will go to an inactive list. I imagine that means you also need to listen until the to go hangs up on you.
You are certainly sounding very wide awake and raring to go Glad - does your hospital follow ERAS protocols and do you have a workbook and checklist you are supposed to follow?
I am surprised I am feeling as well as I am. I think 90% is attitude going in.

ERAS is a protocol designed to give very good care:
What are ERAS protocols?
Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols are multimodal perioperative care pathways designed to achieve early recovery after surgical procedures by maintaining preoperative organ function and reducing the profound stress response following surgery.
My husband’s grandmother was also a narcissistic hypochondriac. Once, she told me that her “hair” hurt! LOL! 😆 So, I asked her, “Do you mean your scalp?” She clearly answered me by saying, “No, I don’t mean my scalp. My hair hurts!” Oh, she became furious me when I told her that it was impossible for ‘hair’ to hurt!
So very sorry for you and your family's loss. 🌹
