Ali, I hear ya. I have allergy problems and when I'm out and sneeze or cough, boy do I ever get the side eye. I run the gamut from thinking do I have covid or nah, it's just my allergies. Sigh.

Where is my helmet, I need to bang my head against the wall. Sig-other's grown daughter and her 2 older teen-age children have been tested for covid, and all came back positive. Not surprised, she and her children act like there isn't any pandemic, visiting friends, going shopping, etc.

This is their 2nd bout with covid, they had it one before. Daughter was down for the count for almost a month the first time around. Gee, one would think after that she would get the covid shots/booster, and for her children. Nope, she believes in those unfounded conspiracy theories. And here she has a serious underline medical disease that reduces her immune system.

Should I feel bad that I have zero sympathy for what she and the children are going through? We have warned her over and over. Her teens are old enough to make their own decisions. Sig-other is beside himself with worry.

No, FF you are not wrong to not feel bad for them. These conspiracy theorists drive me nuts. They think it is all political and it is them that are making it so.

I do not feel badly for those that get it and have done nothing, NOTHING, to protect themselves or others.

I see that the cold in norther AB is expected to continue into the weekend - seems like you can't catch a break Golden. Nephew #2 reports that despite having his car plugged in while they were away for a week it couldn't handle not being run daily, good thing he can walk to work if necessary and uses the "company" SUVs for work.

cw - it's starting to break, I think. There is no wind shill factor so minus 31 fees like minus 31. Next week is warming up according to the forecast. I don't plug my car in but I do use synthetic oil and it is in the garage. It might help your nephews car. It makes a big difference here in the cold weather. I was out 3 times this past week in the frigid temps and the car started. Mind you the oil light was on and also a warning light about insufficient air pressure in one tire. I think both are due to the cold but once it warms up I will get them checked if they are still on. Oh well. January and February then the deep cold will be gone for another year.

Golden, I said a prayer for your weather while I was enjoying the gentle heat of the last 2 days.

This is why we can tolerate the excessive heat, we get fabulous winters, falls and springs. Well worth 3 months of crummy weather to enjoy 9 months of perfect temps.

My son in law tested positive tiday. Ex DH has put up DD and DGD in a hotel near me (none near him) for 5 nights.

Scrambling to send her over some chicken soup and do some laundry. You gotta hope kids remember this stuff, yes?

Hopefully it's very mild Barb and he doesn't need much coddling, although a little chicken soup is always welcome.

Oh Barb, so sorry. Hope he feels better soon.

Barbara, did he do a test center test or a home test?

My whine is that the positivity has to be much greater than data show. While, I have heard there are instructions on home tests you are to report the results. Really?! How many people will take the time to report results? How many will actually read the instructions and know that they are to report results?

Glad, he was positive via PCR.

freqflyer,

I understand. I don't know if you are familiar with the character "Mr. T." from the "Rocky" movies. I would be very tempted to quote him "I [don't] pitty the fool[s}. I have one prediction, pain, pain and more pain."

Barb, hot tea and chicken soup is my go-to for colds and flu. Wishing your family a speedy recovery. I got sick last Thursday and my mom got sick 2 days ago (we were both vaccinated). No testing. We're both holding our own. Unvaccinated husband still has not gotten sick at all in 2 years. Such a mystery!

Totally unrelated to caregiving -
I hate it when computer updates cause problems! Last Firefox updated and now things are displaying with black background and white text. I've reset the colours a dozen times but all my drop down menus, new tabs and web searches stubbornly remain reversed.

I found instruction on how to enable dark mode, the solution for enabling it must be here too. I use chrome, no personal experience with firefox.

https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic/firefox-dark-mode.html

Google is my best friend.

I've been googling too Glad - I've gone into the configuration editor to change a setting and that has solved most of it, drop down menus are still reversed but I can live with that. Hopefully everything returns to normal with the next update.

In case anyone else is running into this ....
in the past I used to change up my decorative background theme with the seasons but I've been content to leave one with a dark background in place for a couple of years now. It seems that Firefox assumes that if you like a dark theme you also want to have your display in dark mode, and changing to a lighter theme changes everything. Now I'll have to search for one that I don't hate 🤔
SMH.

I’m changing NH’s tomorrow. No care complaints. Tired of people wandering in and out of my room, trying on my bathrobes, taking my snacks. Final straw this morning when a family member of one of the MC patients chewed me out for complaining about her mom and asking them to keep her out of my room. My stepson knew about an opening at my first choice NH. They do not have MC at the new place.

That may be the default Glad, you probably have to google how to set up voicemail. (but I'm just guessing)

The posts here had me poking around with my own Firefox display settings and I can't go back to the previous display mode now. CW, something has changed with the Firefox displays. I can't choose just a dark setting where everything else (pages, etc) displays white with black text -- which is what I've used the past year.

*Ope, mostly fixed it. I used the General settings and chose the colors individually instead of the themes because they change everything.

I will check that CW. This is really my first smart phone. My last one kinda was, but storage was so small the phone often wouldn't operate properly. Forget about downloading any apps.

So, all affected family members tested negative on PCR today (before anyone starts talking about over-testing, my ex has stage 4 prostate cancer (likely 911 related) with bone mets and is on immunosurpressant meds.

We are trying to keep his/my kids tested and the grandkids able to see him.
Will move daughter and granddaughter out of temporary hotel accomodations tomorrow.

Just too much family drama this week.

Followup optho appt for my husband today. Watchful waiting as to whether what the doc is seeing is the beginnings of glaucoma.

Itrr, no, it never ends. Thanks for your good thoughts.

I am ever grateful that my eldest, who had just started a job at NYSE was at a back office meeting in Brooklyn that day and not at her job. And that she had the forethought to call me about 3 minutes after the second plane hit to tell me that she was not in Lower Manhattan.

One of her H.S. friends was at her first day of work at WTC. Dead at 22.
