Find Care & Housing
barb - hope your family are well and ex doing as well as possible. That day will forever be etched in our minds.

My whine - came downstairs to a chilly 17C (62F) - my downstairs furnace is broken. Thankfully the upstairs one works. Thankful also that furnace repair people work every day of the week if needed, and we are in a mild spell - minus 9 C (16F) - outside. How we take our modern conveniences for granted!

I've always felt a connection to my ancestors and how they must have lived their daily lives so I am often mindfully thankful for my modern conveniences. Indoor bathrooms, central heating and air conditioning, even electricity are things that my own parents did not have in their childhoods, my grandmother often expressed how wonderful something was and how she never would have believed it possible (her electric blanket comes to mind).

Another modern convenience:
LED Tiki lamps on neighbor's patio, supposed to look like flames....
And they do, look like flames, from farther away, at 5:30 a.m. flashing in the rain.

Seen from my bathroom window.

my father is mailing money to "kiki" in Kenya. Kiki told him she wants to come over and marry him . He said he mailed her money for food.

There is not a lot I can do about it.
He will be 87 in Feb

My FIL lost over 100,000 to a scam like that. He even went to the airport to meet her and only called the police when she didn't show up. But he was a child abusing dumba$$ so it serves him right.

Oy. In the ER with DH. Stomach flu symptoms for 2 days, but woke up short of breath and very disoriented when I came to bed.

EMTs are wonderful in these situations.

So sorry, barb. Is it covid?

His rapid just came back negative. His O2 sat at home was 87, which is why I called EMS, but it was normal when they took it, so I don't think it's Covid. Despite all the soup I pushed into him today, they say he's dehydrated.

I'll let you know what develops. Thanks for being here, guys!

Barb, is he running a fever?

I don't think so. Felt normal to my hand. He's in the back, just texted me that they just did another ekg. They have him on a saline drip and running blood tests. I don't get to stay with him, due to COVID. Long night.

Take care barb, try to get some sleep and relax. I knows that must be nearly impossible. Know that I am thinking of the two of you. Maybe it was just a blip on the radar screen. Sometimes weird things happen without a reason.

I've read many anecdotal reports of symptomatic people who have repeatedly tested negative for covid who get a strong positive several days later.... this seems to be true for pcr tests as well as rapid tests.

Thanks, all. Dx was stomach flu; the re-hydrated him with IV, checked out everything I don't think this was/is Covid, but we will get him a PCR tomorrow.

Got home at 5 AM and just woke up.

Barb, I hope your hubby is better soon.

If you can get him to drink anything with ginger in it, it helps the body absord fluids into the cells.

We like fresh grated ginger, raw honey and a squeeze of lemon when we are feeling dehydrated.

Barb, I hope DH recovers well. That must've been scary.

I never eat it otherwise but when I had flu or vomiting as a kid, jello or jello water always went down well. I wonder how healthy things like ginger could be added. Seems you could put it in the hot unflavored jello water just like a tea and make your own flavor.

This is in my head because I just ordered a collagen supplement because my hair is getting so very thin. Hoping it will help some joint pain, too.

Oh Barb! Hope your DH is ok & you get to catch up on your rest.

Have heard Omicron can present with nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea. Rehydrate is all you can do.

Dr told me Omicron is more in the throat, so even though the R.A tests are good, if nasal only, may not pick up (apparently). But PCR will.

Of course stomach flu does happen now & then. Whatever it is, hope it is brief.
🤞🙏

Ali, Dermatologist recommended biotin 10,000 once a day for my hair. Great results. Also good for skin and nails.

Just noticed when checking my CC statement that my onstar payment has doubled this month. Tried to log in,, nope.. Got online with an advisor, can't tell me anything because hubs set up the accounts for the Caddy when we bought it and the emails and passwords don;t match,,, but he is the "owner" of the account,, although I pay it from my CC. I think they added his new truck to my payment, and I am OK with that but he got no notice nor did I. I just want to make sure they did not screw up my account as my Caddy is 12 YO! Its my commuter car and with cell phone and such I really don't need to overpay for that service! I agree with someone who recently said this new double triple password stuff is a pain in the butt!

Becky I use heavy Biotin also, and it and oil has really brought my hair and nails back to life!

Becky, I've been taking biotin for years but unfortunately my hair just kept thinning. My PCP says it's probably genetic (both parents have thin hair now that they're in their 70s/80s) and my thyroid levels are normal with medication. Still thinking that collagen or gelatin supplements are worth a shot for me, even if the hair loss is genetic. And sugar free Jello flavors are a nice treat.

Beatty, I had read that covid could have stomach bug/flu symptoms but I've never heard this firsthand from anyone.

Barb, hope you can get covid ruled out completely and nurse DH back to health. Sounds like you're through the worst of it. I hope so.

In my immediate circle I went from only knowing one person whose husband had covid back in the very early days of the pandemic to almost a dozen in the last month - my nephew had diarrhea, fatigue and still has a lingering cough. My other nephew's little ones also had vomiting and diarrhea, I'm not sure about their mom though... he either didn't catch it or was asymptomatic.
