How is the patient, Barb? Hope he and you had a better night.

15 hour day ahead because the team is rather thinly spread just now.

CM,
There are no words for working 15 hrs. in winter, but I know that you can do this for a short time - I am just hoping that it is not for the long term and becomes the norm.
A strawberry spread too thin just becomes jam. 🍓

Be safe out there, will you? You've got this!

Thank you Send :) - home again now. 100 year old lady offered to gallop to her room jumping over the furniture to be quick with her bedtime routine. The clients always make it worth it!

DH has gotten his appetite back. Is still mostly eating soup, but asked for matzah balls tonight, heavens be praised.

Still waiting on his pcr, but spoke to the NP at our PCP's office today who confirmed that there is a devilish stomach bug traveling around Bklyn. Glad to be out of its circle. Thank you to all of you for your good thoughts.

Why is it when it's the end of the day and you are the most tired that overwhelming problems happen ? Tucking Mom in for bedtime, go to empty bathroom trash and make sure the toilet is clean so when I get up during the night, I won't sit on or step into a mess. The toilet is plugged up, really, really plugged up.

Not just pee, but both.

Of course, I meant to get a new plunger when I threw out the non-working one....
I know Mom won't remember but I told her anyway don't flush tonight. I'm tired, going to bed, locking my door so she won't walk in, bend down and look me in the face inches away to get me to fix it tonight.

Tomorrow is another day.

Two steps forward, one step back...

I went out yesterday with a friend. While I was gone, DH ate a salami sandwich, so we're back to square one with #2.

So I ask, "have you taken Imodium?"

Tells me no, it's Imodium that made him faint and dehydrated last weekend. Oy.

Gave him online Imodium site (it works by slowing down your gut, increases absorption of fluid in gut), tells me that's not what it does for him.

I calmly suggest he email doc. Doc, bless him, says "take Imodium".

Barb, unfortunate but, I can understand not being able to resist. Nothing as satisfying as a nice salami with mustard.

Does he take probiotics? Those might help get his stomach back in good working condition for the long haul.

Report

ITRR, oh, I totally get the allure of salami.

I hauled out the probiotics the other day (he claimed he's lost them, but I found them!). He's on a slew of other meds (blood thinner, heart, cholesterol, etc.) so I guess it's hard to add something else.

He's perking up today, doesn't feel so shaky. Looking up. Thanks for your good thoughts!

I don't know where to put this.

Snow has been regularly removed from the driveway by my very nice snow angel, but the machine he uses leaves a layer on the cement that turns of ice and is quite slippery. DD nearly fell on it last week.

Previous years the city came and salted it but this year, in fact, yesterday, a couple of workers came and shoveled off the driveway right down to the concrete. Yay!!!

But I Yay-ed too soon. It snowed several inches over night and the driveway is covered again. Back to square one and get out the crampons. ☹

Report

Golden sounds like he needs service and a new part that will scrape closer to the concrete. Or ask him to spread cat litter and salt to help that. Very helpful of the city to finish it up.

Why do they sell lotion on pump bottles?! You can never get it all out, if the pump will work in the first place!

glad - the snow angels are arranged by the city. I am wondering if someone alerted the city to the icy layer which must be on more than my driveway. It wasn't me and hasn't happened before. In the past the city has sent someone to spread salt. I am impressed that they came and shoveled. I am also wondering now if my snow angel will be back to clear the driveway. I guess somebody will. I'm not going anywhere till its a bit warmer.

Pump bottles are great when they work. With hand soap I just refill.

I'm so tired of Mom's refusal to wear a hearing aid. Again, as we are going through the going to bed process, she grunts and sighs and moves so slowly, but finally lays on the bed. I pull the covers over, then say Good Night and turn the light off, and turn around and start to leave the room. As I am nearing the door to exit, Mom says Good Night. I already said it, and proceed to leave the room. Then she yells Good Night! Angry that I "didn't say it". So tonight, I yelled back Good Night and left.

And so, I'm the one left with feeling tired and angry and need something to calm down so I can relax before going to bed in a bit. I am soooo ready for her to be gone.... can't afford assisted living. But I am very seriously considering going back to work, even just enough to afford assisted living. I'm really to the point of not trying to keep her at home which I have felt is "best for her", but quickly arriving at the point of what is "best for me".

LOL! I'd gladly cook three meals a day if mom would keep her story straight on what she wants. She tells me she wants home-cooked meals, but when I go to the expense and time to make them she says she doesn't have an appetite and would just like sandwiches. When I make her healthy sandwiches she asks me if I really think she likes sandwiches...she'd rather have frozen dinners. When I get her frozen dinners she asks why I'm not making home cooked meals. When I go back to home cooked meals she says...you get the idea.

Tekvah - try this. And I hope it works.

Next time your mom asks for something else besides the food that you offer, tell her that's on tomorrow's menu. Today, there is just this. Then stay SILENT. Don't offer anything more. GIve your mom time to digest what you just said and think about her choices. She can refuse to eat if she's not too hungry, and later will happily chow down whatever food you have available.

My whine today is that in every phase of this process of condo purchase - looking after me in my old age - people have made mistakes. I'm talking about financial advisor at the bank, bank tellers, and now the legal assistant at the lawyers. It's a good thing I still have my wits about me. I do have to say that my realtor has been very good.

I am down to the last transactions and pray that this comes off without a hitch. It's all being done at a distance which makes it a little more complicated, but these days very doable. So that is an anti-whine. I'm very thankful it can be done at a distance and will breathe a sigh of relief when it is over.

While I am at it I will whine about calling my dr about 3 weeks ago to renew prescriptions, being told that would happen and when I contacted the pharmacy today they said they had had nothing from him. Fortunately the pharmacy staff are great and will fax him for refills and be sure I get my meds. 😊

My whine moment…

I think I’ll go into the solitary woods and yell.

I was just relaxing today. Everything was going well.

And now our wonderful aide suddenly has to leave in a few weeks. She’s moving with her family to another town.

I have to find a new aide.

Luckily, we have several aides. But she is my uncle’s favorite. They laugh a lot together.

I’ll need to find a replacement, because they work in shifts.

Golden, I have found the incompetent work to be more the rule than the exception nowadays. The mistakes and errors are utterly mind boggling when you believe you are dealing with professionals.

We truly do live in a buyer/consumer beware world.

Thank God you are able to read and comprehend the paperwork and catch the errors. So many people just sign whatever is put in front of them.

ITRR - I think errors are far more common than they used to be. I agree with it being mind boggling. One really has to be aware and question the anomalies. My experience as an instructor reading many writings, of one sort or another, looking for errors probably helps. Also I have been told I must come from Missouri - I need to find things out for myself. Stubborn as a mule too. lol

Llama - sinus infections are nasty and don't combine well with periodontal treatment. I will get insomnia before coming down with something. Hope you feel better soon.

Llama, because of lingering Covid restrictions call periodontist Monday to see if they still want you to come in. My dentist is very cautious and would reschedule.

Glad: Yes, thank you. I will no doubt have to reschedule as it would be impossible to have gum work done with a sinus infection. Thanks again.

Golden: Thank you. Sinus infections certainly are nasty. Just my luck that I started with this with the periodontal appointment coming up. I will no doubt have to reschedule. I also could not sleep. DH had zero sleep as well. Thanks again.

Update on my sinus issue: I have canceled my periodontal appointment as of today. Today DH took me to Patient First, an urgent facility. After waiting quite a while, the physician comes in. He said that standard protocol (as expected) was to receive a Covid test as well as flu A. I stated to him that I have a sinus infection, have had them before and am here to get an antibiotic (common practice is to fill RXs at the facility). He never examines me BEFORE exclaiming "You have a viral infection." I advocated for myself, finally he examines me after I asked him to and he reluctantly gives me a script for an antibiotic - with the instruction to wait a few days before getting it filled. (Yeah, right!) After coming home and putting a compression head wrap on that did nothing to relieve the pain, DH found a kind of ice pack that I will be putting on after eating dinner.
