Glad, I'm wondering if steel toe boots may be a good look?

Seriously, that is NOT fun. Heal quick.

Had a foot x-ray a few days ago, and now the doctor wants to order a bone density.
Maybe after I recover from the strange happenings at the radiologist's. Maybe nevergoingbackever!

Every x-ray on my feet has been lying on a table.
Instead, the techs had me standing, climbing up on a home-made 2-step stair that was shoved to the wall. A 6 inch cabinet on the wall took away the standing space...you would have had to be there watching these two techs.
One using very poor body mechanics to move the stairs, not standing all the way behind the booth that protects them from radiation. Balancing the x-ray plate between my legs.

Mostly mad at myself for climbing on that stair, when I protested the tech said "It's okay", and NO, it is not okay. I should have left for my own protection. Maybe I should have asked the tech to climb up on the stair?
I no longer climb onto the second stair on my own safer step-ladder at home.
And surely would never put the step-ladder under a cabinet sticking out from the wall 6". Where was my shoulder supposed to be?

I think I can get over this, but not sure 3 days later.

I had the dexa scan per my PCP's recommendation, but I am never taking the medication, Fosamax, that destroys the jaw. Pass on that.

Good word for the radiology techs.
Squirrely fits too.

Send when I broke my ankle a few years ago, many of my Xrays were standing up, as best I could with cast/walking boot/etc.. I took Prolia (I think thats the one, sally field did comercials for it) and had a bad reaction,, frozen shoulder and weeks of rehab. SO I will also not take anything for my bad bones. But I am having another scan in a week so we can see how I am doing. Plus my mamo on the same day, and the eye specialist. MAy as well ruin one day instead of 3 ! Hubs has so many oral Dr apts coming up I am really tired of Drs ! And I work in a hospital !! LOL At least he can go by himself unless it's surgury.

Thanks for weighing in Pam.

I can go to another radiology department. I never had a bad experience there before.
This office has the best, most competent front desk staff!

Maybe it was a bad day for everyone that day. Often, my mind works similar to an OSHA inspector, so I have to set aside taking responsibility for others' incompetence, let it go this time. Take care of myself.

My dialysis tech gave her two weeks' notice this morning. I knew it was coming. She is moving to SC for her husband's new job. My granddaughters are at their house this week so I'm more on my own than I've been since before my accident. My son and his family are leaving next week to go back to Illinois. Going to have to hire some new help.

I am also way behind on getting my bone density test. I feel like it is a waste of time.

My Mom had strong bones up into her late 90's, and her grocery list would show why: cheese, milk, ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream cheese, and whipped cream. Unfortunately both my Dad and I were lactose intolerant, and Lacaid had limited products at that time. My Mom would say "a little bit won't hurt" not realizing a little bit can cause what my Dad would call "the trots" [run to the bathroom].

Llama, I also pass on the Fosamax. What I use are 2 Tums each day. Figure it is better than nothing.

Report

My mom took Fosamax until she started getting severe jaw infections. At one point she thought it was a tooth thing. The dentist ended up extracting most of her teeth on one side unnecessarily. It wasn't till she went to another smarter dentist and told them she was on Fosamax that they smartened up. By then the damage had already been done.

Isn't there a big lawsuit against that company now? I'm surprised if they are still prescribing to people.

Gershun,
I am surprised about the side effects of a lot of the newer drugs for arthritis, osteoporosis, and other conditions. Still people take them, still doctors prescribe them.

Still, the FDA takes them off the market, still, the FDA puts them back on the market.

I am also surprised about what so many drugs do to leach your necessary vitamins and minerals from your system, or do to prevent absorption of your other supplements. These drugs are called "Drug Muggers".

Become informed.

It takes a sleuth to discern what will help or hurt you coming from your doctor.

FF,
Be sure to deduct the Calcium mg. in the Tums from your needed dietary intake of Calcium needs.

You could get heart palpitations from an imbalance of Calcium.

Regarding bone density and calcium... what do people in other countries do? Like in Asia, where they consume a lot less dairy (but do eat soy/tofu, dark leafy greens, hard cheeses, etc). My Italian-American family hardly ate any milk products but have bones like concrete. My bone density is 3.5 on both sides. I'm lactose intolerant from youth but eat a ton of broccoli, rapini, collards, and yogurt/kefir AND I exercise as regularly as possible. My point is that you don't have to rely on milk products for your calcium, as is the case in many other countries.

Good for you, Geaton. My last bone density test years ago showed some lack of calcium so my dr put me on 1000 mg a day. I take magnesium with it. I had tracked my nutritional intake for a while and the only thing I was low in was calcium, I am allergic to milk protein so can't take any form of dairy and obviously don't eat enough greens etc. to make up for it. You are fortunate to be able to eat yogurt and kefir. I haven't been checked for a while but I after that tumble on the concrete driveway and no ill effects, I figure my bones must be OK or I would have had a break.

FF: I also was behind in the dexa scan until I finally got it and satisfied (to a point) my PCP's wishes, though I told her upfront #1 I reached my adult height of 5' 8-3/4" at age 12 (thus small scoliosis) and #2 I have WAY too much of an expensive mouth to EVER take Fosamax. Plus my ear doctor caused me to have a middle of the night fall and I had zero fractures.

CRAZY drive home today! Large slow vehicles for about the first fifty miles. Near the end of that 50 I was behind a duely pulling a gooseneck flat bed trailer, with dual ramps to.load a large farm tractor type vehicles.

Finally, all the large trucks, etc turned off my route except the duely. Nearing one of turns I really wanted to.pass him as I did not want to follow him for the last 30 or so miles to the interstate.

Just as I was getting ready to pass him, he drastically slowed and one of the ramps blew into the air, maybe caused by wind, came down, hitting the asphalt, leaving skid marks. It was a very strange sight. I was not too close thank goodness. He pulled off partially into a roadside ditch, and on I went, passing him.

There is usually very little traffic on that route. Getting home took about twenty minutes longer than usual.

My whine is that I hurt.
I need so many surgeries I put off because I was caring for Mother but now that Mother is gone and I've gotten the tests, procedures, xrays,MRI's ,etc.,every doctor Iv'e seen has told me that my bones are too soft and fragile for any surgeries.
My last appointment was to see about putting in a spinal stimulator for the pain but again, the doctor said he couldn't do it because my bones are too fragile so there's nothing that can be done and I just have to live with the pain.
I wish I would have drank my milk~

glad - that's no fun. We have many big vehicles travelling the highway to here, but they aren't slow. It's good you weren't too close to that last one. Take care on the highway!!! You are doing a lot of driving these days and n end in sight yet I gather.

Aw lu, I'm sorry you hurt. Did your doctors not prescribe you something to improve your bone density? I only started taking calcium (with magnesium and Vit D) a few years ago and I think it has made a difference, Glucosamine chondroitin helps joints too. Careful ((((((((hugs)))))) lu. 🤗🤗🤗

I'm hurting a bit today too but only because I did too much on Tuesday. I had a dumpster for the day and sil and dgs filled it and the garage is almost empty and the back garden looks tidier. Of course I had to join in too and I am feeling it now. But this will pass in a few days hopefully.

Summer cold. Gosh haven't had a summer cold in decades. It is just taking soooo long to disappear, I want to get my taste buds back in order so I can enjoy food once again. Plus get my energy back, as I am so tired. I bet the neighbors had thought we adopted some dogs as both my partner and I have been barking up a storm [coughing].

We both tested ourselves earlier on twice for covid, both clear. Even the doctor tested us [in the parking lot] and that was clear. We got prescribed cough medicine which is now in pill form. It didn't help me at all. We tried Musulix [sp] and it caused me mild A-fib. Over the counter Ricola cough drops did help me but made my food taste funny.

We are doing better after 3-4 weeks, but it will take time at our age. So many naps. Lot of watching "Perry Mason" .

Frequentflyer, years ago an elderly neighbor contacted us late in the evening to help with their computer. My poor hubby was terribly sick with a summer cold, told them he would help but, they would have to stay clear.

We showed up to Gil handing my honey a hot drink. Said, "I know you don't drink but, you are going to drink this". Okaaaay!

Next morning, hubby says he hasn't slept so well in a week, no coughing he could remember all night and ALL of the congestion was gone.

Of course, we have to find out what he was given. It was hot whiskey, raw honey and fresh lemon.

We now make this if we feel a cold coming on and it kicks it to the curb. I add raw grated ginger and water, because whiskey makes me gag and the ginger stops that reflex for me and of course, it has it's own nutritional benefits.

Drinking it as hot and fast as possible seems to be more effective for us.

Hope you both feel better soon.
