I'm tired of cooking/preparing 3 meals a day. It's just the two of us but boy oh boy can that woman eat!! She stays slimish, I get fattish. It's bad enough I do everything here much less start making her one thing and me the other. At times I feel guilty when I buy her fast food cuz of the nutritional value....not to mention I eat it too.
I still miss Matt my springer spaniel.
need - He loved the water and would lie in any puddle we came across on walks and drink the muddy stuff.
Sorry about your accident. What a pain to go through right before the holidays.
Golden,
That’s it. He pulls so hard on the leash.
Glad,
Goldens are beautiful! So sweet and loving.
My daughter’s dog is extremely sweet but he is super strong. He loved the snow in Denver. He loves the water. My daughter read to get a kiddie pool and fill it up with water and ice for them to play in. Yep! He loves it. He jumps in and splashes around.
need - glad your dd's trip is working out. Husky's are no fun to walk. They pull and pull and pull, and if you try to rein them in they pull harder. It's in their genes I guess and why they make good sled dogs.
glad - you would think but some don't.
Luta,, you be careful!
Her original flight was going to stop in Chicago which isn’t a good connection regarding this massive blast of crappy weather.
She is now able to fly out tomorrow with a flight that will connect in Dallas before coming to Louisiana.
There weren’t a lot of hotels available. She decided to pick a hotel that is fairly close to the airport so she wouldn’t have a long ride to the airport tomorrow morning.
Very basic hotel, no frills, such as a restaurant or room service, not even a pizza restaurant nearby for delivery. She had to get McDonalds delivered to her! LOL 😆
Anyway, will be glad to see her tomorrow. Her dog is wearing me out! Ended up taking him to dog park to run for a bit.
An improperly installed and faulty furnace can kill you and your family.
During the pandemic, preppers and many others have posted detailed instructions on how to survive when the power goes out. You can google it.
First, pitch a tent inside the warmest room in your house.
"Temps are minus 43 with wind chill and not fit for woman nor beast. With this faulty furnace, our firewood is almost completely gone and only the immediate living space near the stove is comfortable; the propane boiler can't meet the home heating demands."
From "Get Pandemic Ready"
If Utilities Fail, Don't Try to Heat The Entire House
Insulate one room in your house for a "shelter within the house."
Pitch a tent in the warmest room. Tent alternative: Use your dining room table (extra leaves in). Place a mattress underneath it, and drape blankets, rugs etc. down the sides. Leave a gap near the bottom for fresh air. Keep tent or blankets away from any fire source.
Insulate doorways, floors, walls and windows: Use extra blankets, rugs, curtains, mattresses, clothes or newspapers.
Place sleeping bags inside your tent.
Bring stored water into this room to keep it from freezing.
Safety precautions - bring the following to the insulated room:
Battery-operated smoke alarm
Battery-operated carbon monoxide detector
Any fire extinguishers
Disaster supply kit (72-hour kit) in case of evacuation
Insulate your body
Wear a hat/cap indoors and outdoors.
Wear loose clothes, in layers.
Keep clothes clean and dry.
If needed, stuff newspapers around legs, arms and chest.
If needed, use garbage bags for feet or over body, stuffed with insulative materials.
Wear thermal underwear.
Search how to do this safely.
If you must, turn those tablets off and use an electric room heater.
I think you know how to prioritize your difficult circumstances. You've got this!
Your attitude is amazingly positive!
So sorry 😞 that you are going through all that you are.
That’s stress to the max! I hope things will turn around soon.
Guess I will take him for a long walk in the neighborhood so he can burn off some of his energy.
He’s so friendly and is a bit of a celebrity here because huskies aren’t all that common here. His blue eyes are so beautiful! He gets a lot of attention from my neighbors.
I love him so much but his demeanor is entirely different from my greyhound who was a couch potato!
Two totally different breeds. My grey would sprint in my yard, then come inside and crash. Greyhounds are not high energy. They are sprinters, not long distance runners. They are very mellow indoors.
Her husky has the ‘sled dog’ mentality and wants to keep going!
In my 120 yr old 5 bedroom home with a furnace installed in 2019 and done improperly, won't heat the house above 62 F, had frozen water pipes that thawed into a mainline leak and plumbers are all busy. Went without water for 3 days.
By choice, when young, I lived for 5 yrs without electricity or plumbing and not my gig at age 65 with children in the house.
We're trying to prepare for XMas for the kids and the lack of water makes it all quite hard! Anytime we need to run the taps, we have to switch on the breaker for the pump and that results in more water in the crawl space, yay.
My daughter is showing possible early signs of pre-eclampsia and may be induced before her due date of 3/9. I'm set for hip surgery first week of January and an earlier delivery may mean I'm not able to help as may be needed that much sooner. Yikes!
Temps are minus 43 with wind chill and not fit for woman nor beast. With this faulty furnace, our firewood is almost completely gone and only the immediate living space near the stove is comfortable; the propane boiler can't meet the home heating demands.
The kids are settled by the woodstove on their tablets and content with their hot chocolate. At least the cookies will be nummy, the meal good, the house alight, and Santa is coming for the kids. We have a roof over our heads and food for the table, so much more than far too many have and I'm grateful for the comforts, just weary of the ongoing crises and my total lack of ability to sustain efforts due to a hip that is "totally collapsed" and feels even worse than that.
Ready for that break that I know will never come!
Wow! Yeah, it’s a mess. Crappy weather.
Thanks everyone. Hoping for the best outcome but we’ll see.
As of now her flight is scheduled to arrive tomorrow in New Orleans at 7:00 in the evening.

I suggest an alternate plan. For the Christmas blizzard in 82, I had just had DD#2 on the 23rd. Frozen pizza was the dinner that year.
Oh my, super frustrating to have issues with trunks, doors, ice on windshields in the cold. I will pass on your tips. Thanks.
Well, I certainly hope that the is able to get a flight back. She is hosting Christmas dinner this year!
Seriously, I hope that she remains safe. She said that it was about an hour to drive to Cedar Rapids from Dubuque. She wanted to drive today instead of tomorrow because the weather will be worse tomorrow. So, she didn’t want to risk not being able to get to the airport. What a mess!
NHWM she will be lucky to get out of Cedar Rapids tomorrow.
If the lock is frozen sometimes heating the key with a lighter will be enough to melt the ice in the lock. I have been able to do that before.
Yes, a rental car. Thanks for info.
The weather is not looking great for a lot of places right now. She says flights are being canceled and rescheduling is a nightmare.
It didn’t take my daughter long to figure out that living in a 3rd floor walkup in an apartment building in Denver without a garage wasn’t a good idea! She dealt with ice on her windshield.
As soon as her lease was up she moved into a building with a garage. Now she’s back home in Louisiana but misses the snow! LOL
Her Siberian husky really misses the snow. We have had him with us for the week. I have vacuumed like crazy since he is here! That double coat of fur is beautiful but he sheds so much.
My daughter just called me and was rather frustrated because she can’t get her trunk open to get her suitcase due to the elements.
She went to visit her friend in Dubuque, Iowa, had a flight home which was canceled due to the weather. So, the only flight she could find was one from Cedar Rapids, scheduled for tomorrow, so she drove there to stay at a hotel before coming home tomorrow and then couldn’t open her trunk.
Is this a common occurrence? I can’t imagine being in weather so cold that the trunk doesn’t open!
It is snowing. So many neighbors working on clearing ice from their driveways today. This is remaining from blizzard of last week. Doesn't there come a point that you just give up?
Me: cash WHAT in?
Mom: THIS!
(She picks at her used diaper)
I could go to the bank and cash it in. I need to buy Christmas presents.
Me: 😶
We don’t have much of a Spring. We go straight into hot, muggy and humid summers.
Not much of a fall and winter either. I wish we had the beautiful fall foliage. Our leaves don’t turn all of the beautiful colors. They just turn brown and drop on the ground.
