Thx Llama, my tummy is feeling better.

Ali, R's Dad recovered well. They were both prescribed Paxlovid though. As for R's mom she is still coughing. But she is stubborn and wasn't taking the medicine as prescribed.

Good luck with your finals Ali! I'm sure you'll ace them.

FF, yup, I saw him a number of times with his phone. When I was that age, yes I was mowing and weedimg, too. Probably not as fast as mom would have liked. Mowing with bare feet. Did have a self drive mower, it was about a 7500 square ft lot.

gladimhere, just read about that 16 year who is suppose to de-weed your yard. Good heavens, when I was his age, I use to mow my parent's yard using an old fashioned push mower. Guess today it's too hard to mow or pull weeds while staring at one's cellphone :(

Ali, so happy you are feeling better.

You are gonna rock your finals.

I know you like kimchi, so I recommend eating some everyday to help build your immunity and system up. Great source of pre and probiotics. If you can get past the smell. :-) We love spicy hot kimchi with everything.

I'm just now (knock on wood, and every other ritual for luck) over being sick. What started as a painful, acute sinus infection morphed into a sniffly, achy "I don't know what this is, but I am NOT well; and if I don't get a hot bath and get in bed now, I will lose my mind." That should be a diagnosis. hah

It was a full two weeks +. Roommates have both been ill, too; one still is. Covid tests have come back negative for all of us, but I don't trust the home tests too much, especially with the different variants. I've seen some posts on social media about a respiratory bug going around my area.

I managed to catch up on late school work, and my last finals period is here—deep breaths. I might drop in here to vent when my head steam needs a pressure release. 😌 I'm psyching myself up. I am psyched! This accomplishment is awesome! 🤗

Gershun - It's wonderful that DH's parents recovered. Do they have any lingering symptoms that you know of? I'm just curious. I had stomach symptoms in March '20 when covid was hitting my city and everything shut down. At that time, I recall reading that covid doesn't exclude stomach symptoms, only that they are much less common. I wonder if that could be similar for the latest variants. Feel better fast. x

It is okay to talk about past losses of loved ones in July.
There is a lot of love and support here.

Has anyone ever made a photo album of their children, or grandchildren from birth to marriage, just that person? Or just keep a whole family alblum?

How do we figure out who inherits the family photos?

GladI'mHere, I understand the frustration of widespread rapidly growing weeds; been there, done that.

I used to do it manually, by myself, but that's tedious and back challenging. Then I learned that some lawn mowing services will do it. Some use weed whackers, some use riding mowers, and some use both.

I marked flowers and plants to avoid with plastic yellow tape (thick tape I used to buy at someplace like Michael's. It's easy to see. Sometimes I staked the area then taped off that whole area.

Cost ranged from $125 to what I'm paying now, just $10 (I don't think the service owner has figured out how much he could really get for this service).

Another option is to solarize the area, but it does require someone to lay out the blocking fabric. My organic gardening friends use cardboard (plain, no colored designs or glued on paper as you don't want anything seeping off into the ground) or plastic, which comes in varying sizes and thicknesses. I believe it's available at Lowes or Home Depot, but my friends often buy it online and get specific sizes they want.

Farm Plastic Supply: Greenhouse Plastic Sheeting, Covers & Film has a variety of products.

My organic gardening neighbor uses this annual to kill the weeds before planting.

Hope this helps. If the current fella isn't going to weed whack or hand pull the weeds, he might find laying out plastic a lot easier.

Sorry to hear about the slew of health problems everyone on here seems to be having. I guess I'm joining you cause today I came down with some kind of stomach bug. Staying close to the porcelain throne for a while. In fact getting too acquainted with it if you get my drift.

My DH's parents both came down with the latest variant of covid. They are 86 and 93 yrs. of age but both recovered. I'm thinking that what I have is probably not covid related cause I have not heard of stomach issues with this one.

Anyhow, hope you all are recovering from your various ailments. Love to all!

I need to clarify, cold legs and feet with central air and ceiling fan. I turned off the fan and was not as cold. If I had been outside it would not feel cold. It has been so hot and MUGGY!

ali - I hope your sinuses are better

llama - hope you feel better soon.

glad - cold feet and legs at 100 degrees sounds like something is wrong. I hear you about the work that is needing to be done and isn't getting done. For all the good work my lad has done he kind of slacked off the last day (before his holidays). By contrast his dad accomplished more in the two hours he was here than his son has done in much more time. I am looking forward to living in the condo and not having yard work any more.

My whine - I have been having chills then got leg cramps so have adjusted my thyroid meds and it is be helping, However, it takes time for my body to catch up and meanwhile I am in very low energy mode. Been having walks down memory lane going through some old photos - some good memories, some bad. I will keep a small selection of the good ones.

TEENAGERS! My house is still on the market. Frustrating. The weeds are bad, and need it cleaned up, badly. Because of my surgery last year I am just not able to do it. So, realtor's 16 yo son said he would do it, I was going to pay him $200.00, it is definitely a several day job because of the heat we have been experiencing, upper 90's to over 100 this past week. He started about 10 last Sunday, worked about 1.5 hours the left for 4-5 hours. When back worked another couple of hours. He then came to the door telling me he thought he would finish that day!

I went out to look, he is a long way off, but has done a good job on some of the taller weeds. Hasn't touched the ground huggers. He was tired and left about 6ish saying he would be back on Monday. I left trash bags out for him and tools.

I left Monday early, returned Wednesday PM. He hadn't been here at all. Lied to his dad and told him he had.

He is back now, truck parked outside, I don't want to talk to him right now, maybe he is actually doing something. He didn't ring the bell or knock on the door. Sure don't want to interrupt him if that is the case. So hunkering down to read Crawdads and be scarce.

The state of the world. These young kids want money, but don't want to work for it.

dear nightheron,

your comment is from a few days ago (19 july 2022), but it made me crack up:

“I'm pretty sure the soundtrack in hell is the Social Security Administration's hold music ...

32 minutes and counting of listening to this terrible, circa-1987 hold music.”

——

there’s probably someone from “admin from hell”, taking notes of your comment and adding it to hell’s playlist, if it’s not there already.

today it’s my turn to deal with bureaucracy. gotta call DMV. wish my ears luck.

bundle of joy :)

NightHeron, I thought they did it on purpose. People would be so happy when someone answered and rescued them from the music, they would forget to be annoyed that they had been on hold for hours.

True, CWillie.

So, after 40 minutes on hold, I finally got through to someone at SSA. I said why I was calling (something you can't do online, you can only call), was asked the usual identification questions, then was put on hold. For another 25 minutes. And then I was hung up on.

Ugh!

On the plus side Night Heron, in 1987 your phone might have been tied to the wall by a short cord - can you imagine how excruciating waiting on that would have been!
