My "whine moment" is trying to deal with my mother's frustration of not be able to do things. She's 93, legally blind, and in assisted living. She was very upset today that she couldn't get someone on the phone....when I dialed the number it was a company not the person she was trying to get. So I tried telling her she probably got a digit wrong...and to ask someone there to read it to her or have a staff person dial the number since she can't see very well and her dexterity is poor. She will never admit she may have dialed it wrong... I thought it might be better if she went to the contacts on her phone and then call..therefore, not dialing having to dial a number but there's way too many steps involved to do that...just don't know of any phone that might help. The Vision people have been coming but so far they have very little to offer in terms .of helping her. Anyway I always feel bad when I loose my patience with her...I know I should just listen to her...she has very little dementia...but maybe it's getting worse.

Hi! Not venting or whining, just very embarrassed. It has nothing to do with caregiving.

Today I had to give an important speech. I started off well, and then totally messed up towards the end (kind of like stage fright).

I’m very, very embarrassed.

People will need to relearn how to live without the internet someday.
Whether that is for a temporary time, or forever, I do not know.

Rogers whole network was down including many subsidiaries that buy their services from Rogers- phone, internet and TV as well as Interac which is the digital brains behind all debit transactions (and apparently many ATMs). Businesses that rely on their internet to do business couldn't connect to the web, businesses that rely on their phone service couldn't make or receive calls. This is the second time it has happened but it wasn't nearly as wide spread the first time. But there are only 3 big players in the market so... what are ya gonna do🤷

CWillie,
Not sure exactly what happened. I heard the banks closed.
Are the banks dependent upon a digital provider (a cell phone company?)?

How widespread was this-all the banks, all the cell phones?
What caused this, does anyone know?

Apologies if I got this wrong, my source is iffy, waffely, and not always correct.

Can this happen to the U.S.?

Why is this not in this morning's news?

My phone started to recover last night with access to 911 only and today things seem to be back on track. We Canadians have been griping about the monopoly in digital services for years but what are you gonna do, they've got us by the xxxx.

Hey Canada! Are things any better today?
CWillie, thanks for that reminder about keeping some cash.

glad - there are lots of other providers. I am not with R*gers and haven't have any problems. Happy your new provider is much better.

Canadians, I am sorry to hear that. I feel.your pain. How are you able to post?

I have had Verizon internet for almost a year with no outages to speak of. My previous provider was awful, outages would last for days and they were frequent.

Get your tims? Tims coff ee?

Report

I have them as my cell phone provider but fortunately not for the internet and home phone or I'd be feeling the pain. Reports are that no debit payments anywhere had many people scrambling this morning, good thing I still carry some cash so I could get my Tim's and groceries.
And there is still no timeline for things to be fixed either.

cw - I gather that was R*gers. A bit scary to think it can happen on that scale.

I don't like going to hospitals either Golden. I don't blame you. I always have flashbacks of my mom's last days whenever I'm in a hospital environment.

Speaking of mammograms, I had mine yesterday. It was a diagnostic mammogram because last year's led to a biopsy. I felt nausea when she kept going over and over the same area but she said nothing's changed since last years so that's good at least. I need to be extra careful cause my mom had breast cancer and my dad died of pancreatic cancer.

Thx again, Gershun. BTW I don't go to hospitals. I have gone for mammograms as they have the equipment there but I don't remember the last time I went for anything else.

Oh my, the wood smoke from somewhere is hurting my chest. It smells quite strong at times. I don't need this!!! I looked up the forest fire info and there is nothing near, thank goodness, but we all know that smoke will travel.

glad - happy for you the reception went well. I always read posts, just don't have the energy to respond sometimes. The sewer and flood stuff were stressful and I tend to hide in my shell then to survive.

Golden, I am.seeing you come back. I was always amazed by how you would address everyone and their recent posts. You had paused, somewhat, and now at it again.

Reception was great. I rode there with my son and his darling 5 yo daughter. So I had an excellent excuse to leave early. Both twisteds were there, actually chatted with ts2 quite a bit. Ts1 a cordial hello. I wait for ts2 to say how she really screwed everything up by letting ts1 get too close. It will never happen, in reality, I know that. Her oldest son is doing well, finally, touring the country with some band. He loves the genre, I know nothing about it, but hate it, don't even know what it is called. But, success and he is so excited about it.

cw - sorry about the cyclist So sad

anche - I think any of us could have had a meltdown going through what you are. (((((hugs))))

ali - any congrats on your great mark once again. I guess a childhood of juggling issues prepared me to be a survivor. I'm not one to back down from challenges but I do feel the stress at times and need down time.

llama I am glad your UTI wasn't worse

My whine - I am too tired today but figured I had enough energy to tidy up before the realtor came - especially the kitchen, And then I discovered my dear Rocky had peed in the basement bedroom. I normally keep that bedroom door closed so she can't get in but took a chance and had it open after the flood to dry and air it out. It had to be recent as I was checking that room daily. She (Rocky) certainly senses when things are happening that she may not like and makes her protest.

So instead of tidying up, I had to identify where the smell was coming from, (found it on the bed) and then strip the bed and start doing laundry as I didn't want the laundry room smelling of cat pee either. I opened the window and left the fan on and the room smelled OK. Then I found an extra queen size bed cover and extra pillows and arranged the bed so it looked OK but certainly not as good as it had been.

Aaargh, Not as bad as a sewer break or a flood but still bad enough. The kitchen was a mess and I know it affected the realtor as she said the kitchen is the only room you haven't renovated which was not true at all. I pointed out the new cupboards, etc - but it didn't look good at that point. I will show it to her again after it has been cleaned up and the renos done (pantry doors redone). She figures the appraisal I had done in March is "a bit too high". I agree so that is no surprise. The question is by how much. Oh well.

She didn't think the house needed new paint so that was good. The only thing she suggested that we hadn't thought of was cleaning the front deck treated wood which has some moss in parts. I gather vinegar or peroxide will work. Rocky caught a vole and started eating it leaving a small blood stain on the deck. I poured some cola on the stain and that worked well.

Visited my hairdresser today. She asked how I had been and I told her about my U.T.I. She then told me of her 73 year old mother's case of a U.T.I. Shockingly, her temperature reached 108.1, leaving her with D.C.I. and wheelchair bound. Yes, I knew how serious U.T.I.s can be, but never have a heard of a temperature that high.
