Find Care & Housing
Tai Chi Australia website has a link called Tai Chi for Everyone - classes they recorded for a community tv station. That's where I saw the chair version. I usually go to a weekly class *disclaimer* I personally know these instructors. I can't attend in person at present (# had enough of Covid now) but there are probably others on YouTube.

The TKD sounds great!

You know what just crossed my mind? I could try line dancing classes on YouTube, or maybe Bollywood style!! Well that's tomorrow's exercise sorted...

Beatty,

The female equivalent is a "She Cave" My wife says she considers the whole house her "She Cave." True as far as decorating, but she spends most of her time in the den on the TV and her laptop.

About 4 years ago, I tried Tai Chi, but found it to be more complicated than Tae Kwan Do. I am returning to practicing what I know of TKD which is all of the 9 color belts before first degree black.

Seated Tai Chi sounds interesting. Is the seated version online?

Thanks

DoYoda, would yoga be any good for you? Or Tai Chi - there is a seated version too.

Your man cave sounds awesome. I'd love one. What's the female equivalent? (Do not say kitchen).

Polarbear, yes they did offer suggestions like get more physically active, loose weight, eat healthier all of which I'm making improvements in. I plan to take it again in three months and hope I score better.

NHWM,

Thanks, it is from a man's perspective. I'm sure my wife would want to change it but it's my space. When we bought this house almost 3 years ago, she was glad to see this part was a potential man cave for she knew how much the other one meant to me when my health led to me leaving work on disability. The start of that was 2003. That one was only 100 Sq ft in the room off of the back of the garage. This one, is over the garage.

NHWM,

Thanks! You and my SIL understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a big screen tv up here, but it is mainly for watching DVS's and some VHS. This desktop computer has the largest screen which is easier on my eyes.

My wife has known for some time that she needs new hearing aids, but will not move on that need. She knows recently that she needs to use the ear wax removal stuff from CVS. I have some, but will she say, today I want to use it? No. I don't wear my hearing aids in the house for obvious reasons and I really don't need them up here in my Man Cave.

My Man Cave is 525 sq ft plus a stairway with the walls of the stairway, the end were the door is that goes to the loft, and the other end where a big cathedral window is and some shelves for my library with men stuff on those walls and on top of the book case shelves.

I have my dad's executive desk that he worked as chief engineer of research and design for Mack Trucks starting in 1962. I'm surprised he never bought a bigger and fancier desk, but that's an engineer for you, intense practicality. My step mother did not like him still driving the GM car that he had bought when I graduated from high school ages ago because it was so old and it had one rust spot that didn't bother him, but it did her. She was the materialist, not him. So they each bought more expensive cars which no longer carried the reliability of their earlier reputation. I'm sure my dad would have bought my step-mom such a fancy car, but kept his old one.

I've been the same way with cars down through the years. I'll keep them forever, use them up for around over 200,000 miles and then get a used vehicle with low mileage. At 62, I bought my first new vehicle because it was such a great end of the year buy and end of that version of that car. And I have bought my wife new cars, but she's conservative too.

Well, you can tell that I have not talked with my SIL today or much with anyone else as much as I just wrote. Thanks for listening.

Take care and keep safe.

This is a nice solid dark wood desk with plenty of drawers plus those top pull out shelves on each side. I really should have had this refinished before putting this up here.

Ok, well I'll whine.

1. Samsung rejected my trade in of my smart phone for credit in buying a new one and I had followed their directions on how to send it back. I erased all of my off stuff and apps. It was ready for someone new to start with it.

2. Yard workers did not tell me how early they were going to show up yesterday, but they did great work.

3. FedEx promised the delivery of my old phone between 10 am and 2:25 pm. It arrived at 6 just as I was getting supper out of the oven. Excuse? We had so many deliveries here. Well, why did they promise it soon? That is a logistical problem. They should not make such promises if they can't keep them.

4. My financial advisor called me while I was cooking yesterday to answer a question he could have done by e-mail. His cell phone had a hard time getting through which meant and I to stop what I was doing 3 times.

5. During my virtual session on my laptop, an airline that I have a ticket with wanted to know if I wanted credit for a future flight or my money back? I told her there was no way I was going to fly to Calif in May and please give me my money back, but no I have to go online to process that. wew!

6. I have given my the anti flee med for the cart earlier. Somehow, she managed to loose that one and a second one. She was going to put it on that cat because she like her the best.

7. I have answered some people's questions on FB threads with what they could google on their own which they claimed it was not their responsibility to look it up but for me to back up what I said. I knew that I should not do this, but I told them that I could back it up with my education which he refused to accept.

8. People who claim to be experts in areas other than their own.

9. This crazy market which will likely hurt part of my SIL's pension for the rest of her retirement because 65% of it will be put in an annuity which right now the rate is very, very, very low.

10. My wife is obsessed with Trump and Virus news and her hearing is so bad that I hear it back in a back room. PTL! for my man cave.

11. My wife has yet to get well from a sinus infection that even the prescribed meds did not cure. Now, our doctor does not want us sleeping together. great :(

12. My wife is reading all of these end of the world, virus problem sci fi books which she reports on. aaaahhhh

Last but not least are the bad results that I got from an AARP test that I took for free and can take again in 90 days. Activity wise, I am as active as 75% of people my age. But my brain activity was less than expected.

Working Memory

Processing Speed

Recall Memory

Recognition Memory

My Recognition Memory, Recall Memory, Working Memory and Processing Speed scores were all below the expected range for people my age and gender.

This thread needs some attention. Strange now that we are in very trying times, there are fewer whines -recently anyway.

Anyhoo, I have a whine. I miss my hairdresser. I did find some suitable hair colour (semi-permanent, medium cool blonde) at the grocery store of all places. Couldn't find any on Amazon. So I bought two boxes and need to use one today. I miss the chat, the girls (women, but girls to me) and a couple of guys, the warm "hum" of the salon...

Normally it is one of my outings and counts as socializing time, of which I don't need much, but I do like a little. Sigh. I can't see going there again in the foreseeable future, even if the business survives the lock down. A number of small businesses didn't survive the fire. I am sure some won't survive the covid crisis. My heart goes out to all those who are losing incomes that they can ill afford to lose.

Having had my whine I will now do the opposite and be thankful for all I have which includes a steady income and two beautiful orange kitties who are out enjoying the sunshine. 🐱🐱

Paint egg-size rocks: easter egg colors, then write an encouraging verse. Place them in neighbor's yards on the curbside.
Have your kids go on the walk with you to place them for others to find.

Cali,

Decorating the bags would be fun! Special too because it’s personal. I love that idea. Go for it!

Do you have a shredder? Let them make shredded paper for Easter grass inside the bags. It will be their own personal nest for their jelly beans and chocolate eggs.

Happy Easter to you and your family family, Cali 💗.

FF,

I feel exactly as you do. More people should care about safety. So, thank you for being sensible and thoughtful of others. This is not a time to whine about ‘losing freedoms.’ It’s a time to pull together and do what is needed.

Let me give you a perfect example of people who don’t care. Some people are lazy! They don’t want to bother with precautions. Crazy!

Our governor is taking this very seriously because we have to. We are a hot spot.

Anyway, our governor has asked that all store employees wear masks and gloves. Some store managers are not following the recommendations. He asks that customers wear masks as well. Also, sanitize carts after each person.

It is disturbing that some stores are taking additional risks. Trader Joe’s and one of our locally owned stores has had infections from Covid because they won’t bother taking proper precautions.

The employees get sick and and stores have to be closed for cleaning. Like FF says, if they would listen from the start, it possibly could have been prevented.

We are Whole Foods shoppers. My husband is doing the shopping. I have asthma so I am staying home.

We will absolutely continue to be Whole Food shoppers. There are taped markings for the specified separation of people. They have shields between customers and employees. They all wear masks and gloves. Everyone shopping wears a mask. They provide wipes for shopping carts.

They were out of a few items so my husband went to another local store. It was the polar opposite! No taping off on floors to separate anyone. Not one employee had gloves or mask on! No wipes for carts. My husband saw only one other shopper besides him with a mask. Different vibe in that store.

The Whole Food shoppers were glad to wear masks that I and others donated. I doubt if the shoppers at some other stores would bother to even wear them. What a shame.

My husband brings his own wipes in case there is none. The only thing they had were the shield between customers and cashiers.

My husband is a very laid back kind of guy but viewing this behavior made him angry. He almost walked out in protest.

He was upset that they weren’t complying with our governor’s regulations and putting all of us, including their own employees at higher risks.

What is going on in your stores? Stay safe, y’all 💗.

My 8 year old just asked if we are having an Easter egg hunt tomorrow :(
original plan was to go with SIL & BIL to the easter brunch & egg hunt at the country club...obviously not gonna happen.
i made the kids easter baskets because I wanted to give them a sense of normalcy. But I didn’t buy plastic eggs because I wrongfully assumed they no longer care about egg hunts!!!

Now have to decide if I put on my mask and hop down to CVS and HOPE that a)there isn’t a line to get in and b)they still have plastic eggs....or get creative and find something around the house to put the candy in & hide......would probably have to use zip block bags. Or paper lunch bags but I could have the kids decorate those.....

My whine is seeing comments on the local NextDoor website of people who think the States are going too far with stay-at-home rules, and complaining about their freedoms.

One person mentioned that during none of the other pandemics did the government shut down. To which I wrote "Maybe if they did we would have had less deaths.... 116,000 people in the U.S. died from the 1957 Asian flu pandemic, and the 1968 flu pandemics that took almost 100,000 people, also in the U.S."

cwille,

It is only drive through for us too.
Know what you mean, more and more places are closing as well. Even public roads are closed here now. No one can drive along our lakefront, park and sit in cars.

Will be nice whenever it becomes safe enough to lift some of these regulations that have been put in place for our safety.

Sadly, some people in my area don’t adhere to the restrictions and then our authorities have to crack down and become stricter.

My whine it that I woke up to general aches (nothing new) and a brain fog/sinus headache which isn't responding well to meds. Right now I couldn't fight my way out of a wet paper bag. I have had a coffee which usually helps and as a last resort a fudgsicle - for medicinal purposes!!! The chocolate doesn't hurt ether. Cold things seems to shrink the sinuses. As long as I can see straight and disinfect and put away my groceries when they arrive this afternoon I will be OK. I think another coffee is in order. ☕ Really don't like these kind of mornings!!! 😒

Can't get my coffee unless I drive, they won't accept walk ups at the drive through.

I may be able to order food at the local restaurants but I have to drive there too, and there is nowhere to eat it except at home, I can't sit in my car at the park because they've blocked off the parking lots - I suppose I could sit by the curb, I've seen some people doing that. Of course then there isn't anywhere for them to toss the trash except out on the street🙄.

Can't walk on the hiking trails but can walk along the road - no sidewalk, almost no shoulder.... I feel so much safer.

Today when I went on my walk I saw that now they blocked off the pathway beside a little one block long park garden, but it is the only sidewalk because there is none on the street. Yeah, that makes sense.

Grocery prices are going up due to supply and demand. I remember when toilet paper and paper towels were $1 a unit, not any more.

K-cups use to be $.50 to $.65 per unit, now they are $1.00. Thus, a box of 10 coffee K-cups is close to $10.00. My sig other goes to the McDonald's drive-thru for his $.65 senior coffee :)

The ambulette agency charged full price $3,250 plus an extra $1,000 for our cancelled trip. I am shocked. The whole thing was upsetting because my husband refused to leave the house, and our move was canceled. I had half the house packed and ready to go. Then to be charged that much money for a trip we didn’t take...! Added insult to injury. If we had left on time, we would have moved to a rural area to stay until the Covid 19 threat passed. We had planned to go even before the virus. Now, we are in lockdown.

I should have checked the final charge with the company at that time, but I was not myself. They didn’t tell me the final charge on the phone. I just saw it on last months bank statement. I’m so upset. Their contract says their cancellation fee is at least $500, and if the client disputes the cost and loses, they will charge 150% the original cost to cover their fees. I’m speechless.
