Find Care & Housing
Cali,

That’s nuts. There is no logic with some people, right?

so this state is under a statewide shelter-in-place order until further notice. I am quite annoyed with the people losing their damn minds because people have the nerve to be outside their homes! They have made it very clear we can go outside. We can go hiking. We can take walks. We can ride bikes. We just can’t do it in groups and need to stay 6ft from other people. The number of boomers losing their minds over all the parents outside with their kids is insane! I cannot believe these people think anyone is going to stay IN their house until further notice? People are in the FB groups losing their minds & asking who to call to report it too....and what’s the answer? Call the police! Have them fined $1000! They don’t get it though. It’s not a fine-able offense to be outside getting exercise. The police are not going to go out and start writing tickets to everyone outside.
We are not going to catch the ‘rona from someone walking their dog past or jogging by with their toddler in a jogging stroller!

My other whine moment is.....that irresponsible parents are still taking their kids to play at the park. Parks are still open. But we are advised NOT to let kids use the playground equipment. I live by the neighborhood park. All week I have seen people drive in to the neighborhood and let their kids play in our park. What I have not seen? Is a single city worker cleaning the park. As of today our county has 7 confirmed COVID-19 cases. There are probably more but they are being stingy when it comes to testing because we don’t have enough tests to test everyone presenting a symptom. So COVID-19 is here and yet people aren’t taking precautions when it comes to their kids. The irony of it....I can’t find cleaning supplies anywhere. Even simple household cleaners, there are none to be found. Probably because the same people taking their kids to the park are the same ones hoarding all the cleaners. Lot of good all those cleaners they hoarded will do when their kids pick up the rona because their parents took them to an unclean park!

My whine of the day.... I am the one at the office who makes sure Lysol is the first thing one smells when coming in the door to the suite [we're in an office building]. I wipe off the door handle and the door around the handle. The break room area gets a good wipe down. I blast a paper towel with Lysol spray to wipe down the phones, keyboards, and Mouse. Conference room table, chair arms, yada, yada, yada.

Da boss finally shuts down the office, so I lugged home office stuff that I needed.

What does my boss [who is 85] do? He's playing golf :P

Yeah. I am sure that my nephew will seek help but it’s still tough.

Toilet paper earrings! Now that’s funny! Thanks for the giggle.

My nephew is willing to work he just wants some common sense precautions - delivery only, no set up (which can involve an extended time in the house building furniture), and no furniture returns or accepting used mattresses and appliances for disposal. As for the ding dong he works with - that's an ongoing list of irritants and complaints to management are just laughed off.

Today I called the City who advised me that my husband's employer cannot force him to work. I know that "at will" employment allows the employer to just not schedule an employee, which is technically fired if he does not want to work under the threat of Covid-19 precautions and they decide not to have him back.

The nephews may be sub-contractors, however, they should cite City, County, Providence, territory, Gov't guidelines and at least stay away from sick people. Refuse to work with them. Now is the time to take a stand, imo.

In Canada:
"Most workers in
Canada
 - about 90 percent - are protected by the employment laws of their province or territory. Each province and territory has its own legislation. ... If you are such an employee, the Labour Program administers the federal labour standards that define employment conditions in your place of work."

NHWM,
A person in the film industry has protection by unemployment if they qualify. One could ask the SAG/Aftra for information.

My nephew just lost his job 😞. He works in the film industry. Shows are not being filmed.

Coronavirus will impact us more than we realize and it’s not over. We have several humps to get over. There are hoops to jump through. There are twists and turns.

This is all new to us. We are trying to navigate in new territory. I am not trying to be a ‘negative Nancy’ or a ‘Debbie downer’. I am facing reality for what it is.

cwillie my nephew delivers furniture too. I don't know what precautions they are taking, if any.

I'm also glad my mom isn't alive to see this. I keep thinking how panicked I would be feeling if she was in nursing care right now.

Nephew that delivers furniture just called me, he's livid because his employer is a covid denier and the only extra precautions they're supposed to take is that they can refuse to enter a home where someone is ill - of course people who are are stupid enough to accept delivery are also stupid enough to not warn the delivery men. And.... the other guy he works with (trapped beside him in a truck most of the day) has a horrible cough and cold.

My whine moment is that this economy is killing my sister in law's retirement money and there is nothing that I can think of to do and she's retiring in July. Too bad that could not be put off for say 2 years. My wife is thankful for all of the help I have given her sister, but this one is beyond me or my own financial advisers. What a mess! :(

Xrayjodib, let the calls go to voicemail. She wants what she wants but that doesn't mean you have to risk your sanity or safety to provide it.

Can she arrange delivery herself? If not, maybe you would consider arranging that once a week or fortnight?

If she calls your brothers - so be it. They can choose to listen to her complaints or not. They could also get it delivered if they choose to arrange it.

My "Whine moment " for today is that my narcissistic mother is on a rant because I won't make the 45 minute drive(one way) to bring her some wine!
Her AFL is on lockdown!!
I am not willing to drive all that way to drop wine in front of the facility door and turn around for home. We've had snow all weekend and it's only 13 degrees out!
It's beyond comprehension that she wants me to risk life and limb so she can her alcohol fix!
She's calling my brothers and complaining about me. I have been busting my butt for weeks getting her room nice and cozy, running around trying to find her everything she needs!!
She started in with her crying game this morning so I took some previous advice from some of you, and told her to call me when she stops crying and can talk calmly.
No call yet! Sad to say, but I'm glad she hasn't called!!🤬

Yes Grape,
Stop repeating what you said to your hubs.
When all this became too much for me, and I was getting more and more frustrated, I tried some things.

I asked him to repeat to me what part of what I said he did hear.

I would ask him to repeat things he said to me, often saying "What?". That gave him a clue as to how it felt, but did not improve communication.

I would not answer when he said what? Found he was just buying time to formulate an answer. Waiting helped, in silence.

I started to say short things (can you get the pepper?) automatically 3 times. This worked, but do not do that in front of anyone, it will freak them out, thinking you are just mean.

He did tell me to say his name first, and wait. But he often would not answer, his mind elsewhere.

He sometimes says now: "I heard what you said, but I don't understand what you said."

I tried pointing, but this does not work with aspergers, it is not something that they can respond to.

So, we talk less as he is sometimes just not 'there'. The old saying, "the lights are on but nobody is home" too often applies. I think hubs would like to be left alone with his own thoughts, in his own world.

First say his name and insist on eye contact before you tell him anything, at least then he won't have the excuse my father used to give that he didn't know mom was talking to him (yeah, just the two of them in the house at the time 😂)

Grapeauto, maybe not words of wisdom but I can relate. My hubs does the exact same thing. In my case though I won't repeat what I was saying anymore. Now he wonders if what I was saying was anything important and gets peeved.😏 But I still won't repeat it. He's learning.

So maybe try that. Don't repeat yourself.

My whine of the day is having a husband who just doesn't listen when I am talking to him. He might catch the end, but doesn't tune in until I am halfway through telling him something. Then I have to repeat it, which is a pet peeve of mine. Then I get snarky and say it louder and scarcastically. He then says I don't need to yell. He keeps saying it is his dementia kicking in. I think that is just an excuse to not be interested in anything I say. He says I will be much happier when he dies and not have to deal with him. Then I feel guilty for being such a rat of a wife. Any words of wisdom?

I have asked, they looked perplexed and I was given the number of a library administrator and offered tech counselling. I don't need counselling, I've explored every #$&%! option available and I'm not missing anything. The problem is that the site is designed for people using their tablet or phone so instead of being on page 8,253 and creating a bookmark (like I used to do in Overdrive) you just keep scrolling on one never ending page, bookmarks just take you back to the beginning. I can search for a favourite author or a title, but the #%$&! site won't even let me paste in a title/author I've found from somewhere else (like goodreads), I have to type it in. And it's stupid, so if I make a spelling mistake I just get an oops!

I'm getting hot again just thinking about it😖

There will definitely be an easy-when-you-know-how way round that one, CW. Have you called a human person at the library to ask?

One other quick idea - how about going to your internet history and returning to the page you were on when you last browsed? - or will it just go to the Log In page?

I have 2 more whines about modern technology.

#1 is the Cloud library, which my library has switched to instead of Overdrive. I love my digital books, I don't have to leave my home and go the the library, I don't have to worry about overdue books, I can check books out at 1:00 a.m. if I'm so inclined, but the Cloud library is going to kill that love because it is so dysfunctional. There are options to browse books by popularity, by author, by publication date or by title but you can't scroll through all the A's and then bookmark that page so you start at B the next time (believe me I've tried), to get to B you must spend a half hour scrolling through all the A's once again. This means I shall never be able to see much more of the catalogue than titles and authors beginning with A & B (or C if I have that much time and patience) or whose publication date is no older than 2 or three years, or of course the dross that generally makes the best seller list 😤

My second whine is that every local business and service club - even my church - uses facebook as their main web address. Do they know how annoying it is to constantly have to bat away requests to sign in in? No I WILL NOT join facebook, nuh uh, no way.

Send,

Don’t rain on our parade! LOL Of course, we would have someone else do that job for us in our luxury RV. I would have to hire a driver too. Trust me, no one would want me on the road driving an RV!

A minivan was as large of a vehicle that I have driven. Parking an RV would terrify me, turning the thing, just driving the thing...

I have no business to be behind the wheel but with a driver it would be fun!

I keep seeing Steve Harvey doing the commercials for Publishers Clearing House. Who wins those contests? LOL The winner could buy a nice RV.

Rolling my eyes at one of my friend's dad. We made plans to get together yesterday. He let his dad and sister know on Monday so he could have some cash if we decided to go out to lunch. He calls me up at the last minute and said that his dad said he had to cancel with me so he could get a tux for his cousin's wedding. My friend was upset about it for a good reason. He asked his dad why his dad couldn't have said something Monday and he could have gotten the tux yesterday and why is he having an attitude and saying he has to do it today. Friend told his dad Monday morning that he was getting together with me on Tuesday and he was off all day on Monday. I can't blame my autistic friend for being upset about the whole situation because his dad has gotten more self absorbed and plain old mean.

No, CW, it should not.

I operate on the assumption that if I don't know what they're talking about I either ignore it or click yes, or continue, or send me a reminder, or - ugh.

But that may be why all of my best music is sitting in the iCloud unlistened to by me since I somehow ended up with two Apple accounts and can't find anyone to tell me how I make them understand that they're both me.

Oh well, silence is golden.

You haven't got a cellphone registered with them, have you? Would they text you a security code? Like I'd know - !

Can I whine about Microsoft?
It's been a while so I decided I should change the passwords on my email accounts. I'm asked for my "code". What code? Enter recovery code instead - I do have that. Then I am asked to enter an email where they will send a new code. Won't accept the alternate email because I've opted to link my emails on my desktop PC. Uhm, now what? And since Windows 10 makes me sign in every day if I f this all up will I be locked out of my computer too? It shouldn't be this complicated, should it?
