I'm tired of cooking/preparing 3 meals a day. It's just the two of us but boy oh boy can that woman eat!! She stays slimish, I get fattish. It's bad enough I do everything here much less start making her one thing and me the other. At times I feel guilty when I buy her fast food cuz of the nutritional value....not to mention I eat it too.
I have not. My dad’s family is Scottish and Irish.
I have heard bagpipes before. I’m sure I would like it. Sounds interesting. I like a wide variety of music. I just want quality of whatever I am listening to. I do adore marching bands. We have several military bands that march. They are wonderful too. Our high school bands are terrific. This city is bursting with musical talent.
And drill teams - wow! The precision is soooo inspirational. My parents used to go to drill team performances when they were Winter Texans.
Ahhhhh, a band! My favorite part of a parade. Love the marching bands!
Yes, Bellingrath Gardens is beautiful when all the azaleas are blooming.
How would we like it if the AC experts (if they had time) came on each thread and critiqued everything we wrote? That'd be a quick way to shut down the free exchanges of ideas.
Oh gosh! Too funny. I went to the Mardi Gras balls with an old boyfriend of mine. His family was in the court so we were expected to attend. I loved my boyfriend but his mom was another story! Hahaha I didn’t like her at all. Don’t think she was fond of me either. His dad was great.
Endymion and Bacchus are great parades! So what kind of marching did you do? Band? Dance?
When was the last time you were in New Orleans? It’s been awhile since I have been in Mobile. Have you been to Bellingrath Botanical Gardens there? That’s on my bucket list.
Poor kids being physically hurt, one girl was lied to by other kids saying it was a school project. A little boy had his arm broken because he did it.
Are y’all aware of this stupid challenge? Three kids jump together tricking the kid in the middle. The kid in the middle has his legs kicked out from under him and the kid is supposed to fall onto their head so it can be shown on social media! Horrible!
The police are investigating the incident. So sad 😞. Happened on Magazine St.
Nyx is a fun parade. It’s a really popular parade on the uptown route. It gets very crowded. Our police are excellent at crowd control for the parades but they can’t cover every single block of Magazine St.
So many kids at the parades. First of all, it is awful that the lady was killed and so sad that children witnessed this tragedy.
You know, the section of Magazine St. that she was hit happens to be a narrow section of that street. The crowd needs to step back in that area. If the crowd is pushed forward there, there isn’t any place to escape. It’s a tight spot.
I go to the uptown parades but I go to a different section to view the parade.
Thanks. It was Krewe of Freret. We start rolling weeks before Mardi Gras. Lots of parades leading up to Mardi Gras day. Mardi Gras is Feb. 25. I want to see the Krewe of Barkus this year. Love that parade! My dogs would not have been right to be in it. My schnauzer was crazy and my greyhound would have been too shy but I love seeing the other dogs. Very low key parade. A fun laid back parade to view. We like to go eat at The Gumbo Shop before and then walk out to the street to catch the parade. It passes in front of the restaurant.
We had a friend that gave us passes to sit and view the Krewe of Freret parade at Gallier Hall. John Kern got involved with this krewe and I really wanted to see it roll. It's a parade that is connected to our musicians. It is probably going to end up being one of our super krewes like Endymion and Bacchus. This year Trombone Shorty was honored. Love him! Since John Kern got involved the floats are going to really special. Trombone Shorty was going to have his bust on the float that was supposedly larger than any other one done. He was the Grand Marshal of the parade. Great choice! Music is part of our culture, so is Mardi Gras so it is a great combo. There were lots of marching bands in the parade too, which I love! Always have since I was a kid.
I am always on the street like most people for the parades and this year we had special passes to Gallier Hall which has food, drinks, bathrooms right there. Wonderful seating to view the parade. Oh well...couldn't be helped that we missed it.

Troops aren't unusual here in major events, but the "life threatening" warnings took me by surprise. Perhaps it's because of the bucolic villages featured in the various British series (Midsommer Murders, Father Brown, etc.) that I picture idyllic, lush flower covered cottages as opposed to raging waters.
To be sure it is a bit blowy out there, but I bet that no one who's seen extreme American weather would think much to it. The flooding is happening mostly because we had such a continuously wet autumn and early winter that there is nowhere left for the rain to go - the land is just saturated. Not to say I'm not very sorry for the poor people and animals who've got nowhere to sleep tonight. I suppose you don't stop to think what eight foot of muddy water would do your life if it got into your home, until it happens to you.
This county is such a backwater that there is only one road important enough to qualify as an arterial route, and it's the one I'll be trundling along back and forth tomorrow (I've been put on a different round. Looks like I'm in disgrace, again, whatever my shift leader said). If *that* road is closed then we'll just have to shut down until it all gets back to normal, and people's neighbours must get them out of bed and breakfasted, that's all.
I'm hoping you and yours are safe throughout this disastrous event.
Ahhh, storm Dennis, two bomb cyclones merging, saw it on the news. Stay safe and in, CM.
In those kind of driving conditions, it is not your fault. Keep yourself safe.
Today's round began at seven a.m. It had eight calls on it to be completed by three p.m. The difficulty is that we have a lot of flood water around our area this weekend and some of the roads are impassable. If we followed advice/instructions never to drive through flood water because you can't really tell how deep it is, ALL of the roads out of our city would be impassable - so we don't follow the advice, we cross our fingers, stick our hazard warning lights on, and drive slow, occasionally breaking out in a cold sweat and praying that we won't be the idiot whose car breaks down in the middle of a flood and gets swept away to its doom.
Anyway. As I was on my way to my last call, insanely late, I got a call from my shift leader to say DO NOT GO TO THAT HOUSE. THE CLIENT'S DAUGHTER IS HAVING A FIT ABOUT HOW LATE YOU ARE. REPEAT: DO NOT GO.
I said I'd rather go and face the music and apologise and try to put things right but no go. Shift Leader said she had only just got the daughter back in her box and didn't want me stirring her up again. So I trailed home sadly with my tail between my legs.
For nine solid hours I had kept my head down and paddled as fast as I could and done what I could to make sure that seven (eight, actually, because one client turned out to be two people who both needed help) out of eight (nine!) people were safe and comfortable; but it doesn't count. Because one person is understandably furious - it IS understandable - that her mother didn't get her lunch on anything approaching to time.
I know it isn't my fault, and my shift leader told me it wasn't my fault, but it *feels* like it's my fault.
And we've all got to do it all again tomorrow. 😞
And it's still raining 😟
Beatty, prayers for a fast recovery for your mom and sister.🙏
