Find Care & Housing
After I had a wreck when I was young,I had to take a defensive driving class and I'm glad I did because it's helped me alot through the years. It was just bad that the teacher was the one I'd had before in Driver's Ed. that taught me to drive in the first place.
Glad you dodged a wreck Send~Good going!

Send,

I wholeheartedly agree. My dad taught me as a teenager to drive defensively.

Glad you avoided an accident.

No kidding! I think that sometimes I can observe a car from a distance and predict how they are going to mess up in advance.
So I am being ever so careful, driving home with dH last night.

If I had not slowed, that car would have just wiped us out.

Just FYI, one clue is that they have a light out somewhere.

And, if you watch carefully, one can tell if a car is under someone's control, or just 'sailing' like they are the only car on the road.

Be careful out there everyone. Give up your right to be in the right, or in other words, give up your right-of-way so you can live to drive another day.

Yoda,
You just had pneumonia, and could be just coming off of an antibiotic that has serious safety warnings also.

If you were my family member or patient, and falling out of bed, I would take you to the ER asap. Not to panic, but to get a medication review STAT.

I will look up the antibiotic if you ask here. Be back soon.

Yoda,
You are also taking a medication with a serious Safety Announcement:

LAMICTAL

[ 04-25-2018 ]
Safety Announcement
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning that the medicine lamotrigine (Lamictal) for seizures and bipolar disorder can cause a rare but very serious reaction that excessively activates the body’s infection-fighting immune system. This can cause severe inflammation throughout the body and lead to hospitalization and death, especially if the reaction is not diagnosed and treated quickly. As a result, we are requiring a new warning about this risk be added to the prescribing information in the lamotrigine drug labels.*
The immune system reaction, called hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), causes an uncontrolled response by the immune system. HLH typically presents as a persistent fever, usually greater than 101°F, and it can lead to severe problems with blood cells and organs throughout the body such as the liver, kidneys, and lungs.
Lamotrigine is used alone or with other medicines to treat seizures in patients two years and older. It may also be used as maintenance treatment in patients with bipolar disorder to help delay the occurrence of mood episodes such as depression, mania, or hypomania. Stopping lamotrigine without first talking to a prescriber can lead to uncontrolled seizures, or new or worsening mental health problems. Lamotrigine has been approved and on the market for 24 years, and is available under the brand name Lamictal and as generics.
Health care professionals should be aware that prompt recognition and early treatment is important for improving HLH outcomes and decreasing mortality. Diagnosis is often complicated because early signs and symptoms such as fever and rash are not specific. HLH may also be confused with other serious immune-related adverse reactions such as Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS). Evaluate patients who develop fever or rash promptly, and discontinue lamotrigine if HLH or another serious immune-related adverse reaction is suspected and an alternative etiology for the signs and symptoms cannot be established. Advise patients to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms of HLH during lamotrigine treatment. A diagnosis of HLH can be established if a patient has at least five of the following eight signs or symptoms:
Fever and rash
Enlarged spleen
Cytopenias
Elevated levels of triglycerides or low blood levels of fibrinogen
High levels of blood ferritin
Hemophagocytosis identified through bone marrow, spleen, or lymph node biopsy
Decreased or absent Natural Killer (NK) Cell activity
Elevated blood levels of CD25 showing prolonged immune cell activation

Patients or their caregivers should contact their health care professionals right away if they experience any symptom of HLH while taking lamotrigine. HLH can occur within days to weeks after starting treatment. A physical examination and specific laboratory blood tests and other evaluations are used to diagnose HLH. Signs and symptoms of HLH include but are not limited to:
Fever
Enlarged liver; symptoms may include pain, tenderness, or unusual swelling over the liver area in the upper right belly
Swollen lymph nodes
Skin rashes
Yellow skin or eyes
Unusual bleeding
Nervous system problems, including seizures, trouble walking, difficulty seeing, or other visual disturbances

Read the patient Medication Guide, which explains the benefits and risks of lamotrigine, every time you get a new prescription because the information may change. Do not stop taking lamotrigine without talking to your health care professional first as doing so can cause serious problems.

Yoda,
You are taking drugs in combination that may lead to Serotonin Toxicity.
Can you please look that up, or call your doctor right away?

I discussed this with a friend online. He thinks that it is the lamictal being a anti-seizure mixed with the serotonin drugs like Wellbutrin and lexapro. He thinks that one of them or a combination is sedating you in REM sleep so deeply that I roll out of bed.

cwillie,

I started a new medicine, Lexapro, an anti-anxiety med, over a month ago.

So far, I have not hurt anything which is amazing since I weigh, 260. I land on my shoulder which keeps my head from hitting the floor.

I'm going to contact my psychiatrist and primary care doctor about this.

Lol Glad, good one.

Funny my hubs always tells me to be careful but when we are out he likes to jay walk. He grabs my hand and says let's go. I always let go of his hand and walk to the crosswalk anyway. Can't be too careful.

Yes Glad crazy.

My hubs is always telling me to be careful like I'm a little kid. I always tell him that no one is more careful than someone who has already been hit by a car in their life. For a while afterwards I would just freeze if I saw a car getting too close to me. Even when I was walking across a marked crosswalk. I would suddenly just stop walking and freeze expecting the cars to not stop.

Gersh, I too was hit by a car, actually twice a year and a half apart. First time was in a city parking garage. Stupid woman playing some kind of game with the guy that was in the car behind her. Came around one of the 180 turns and there I was. She stopped as did he, no place to go. City hung pedestrian signs in the garage after that. I had a bruise on my hip the size of a very large watermelon. Had a couple of surgeries for weird stuff with my ankle and toes.

Second time, a hit and run. It was night, walking to blockbuster o rent a movie, in the crosswalk. Idiot came blazing around the corner, friend ended up on hood of car then thrown against curb. Me the car just brushed against my ankle, so I tried to get closer to get tag numbers. Called police, gave them the tag, which was a temp, got numbers but not the letter at the end. Come to find out, that there were three temp tags issued with that number in the past couple of months. The one most likely inn the immediate area, the owner of the tag had thrown it away in a dumpster on the army base. My guess, is he sold it to a buddy for a few bucks.

Craziness!

I wish that for you too Yoda. Sorry.

As for getting hit by cars. I got hit by a car when I was in my late twenties. The guy that hit me pulled over afterward but never got out of his car to see how I was. He was from out of town and I hired a lawyer and got a very small settlement. My injuries were minor although I did suffer a concussion and had some really bad bruising on my legs and right eye. I still have neck problems because of it but they didn't show up till months after the settlement had already been decided otherwise I may have received more money.

The hospital that I was taken too is the same hospital my mom later died in. The nurses there treated me like sh*t. They made me give up my bed cause they said they were busy so they sat me in a chair. I was really dizzy when I stood up but they couldn't have cared less. They didn't even tell me (my boyfriend at the time was there to pick me up) Who knows how long he had been waiting in the lobby for me. And he was no big help. They told him to wake me up every three hours cause of the concussion. He instead invited his pot smoking friends over for a party and got stoned out of his head.

So sad, cwille

It really is. I agree that they need to be remorseful and be accountable for their actions. An accident is something that can’t be avoided but a deliberate hit and run is despicable!

It seems like I hear about hit and run crashes a lot more than I used to, people definitely don't seem to feel the need to take responsibility for their mistakes, they don't even try to make a call to get help for their victims. And then there are the ones who claim they didn't realize they hit anything, like this fool.

Awful Cali! Let me tell you that some people don’t care! They simply don’t care.

Sometimes even the people in Mass. My husband and I have commented that the same people who shake our hands and say, “Peace be with you” during Mass will run us down in the parking lot! Some people drive like idiots!

Years ago I had an older woman back into my car in a church lot after I dropped my daughter off at her preschool.

The church also had a terrific preschool program. She tried to hit and run! I quickly got her license plate number.

I called the police. She tried to lie to the policeman. The policeman called me aside when he saw how upset I was and whispered to me that he could see just by the damage on my car that she was at fault but he had to remain neutral in front of her but the insurance company would rule in my favor (which they did.) He was a wonderful policeman that reassured me her insurance company would pay for damages.

It is horribly sad those two women were struck by this man. My Lord! So, so sad.

I had been hurt in a bicycle accident when the old lady hit me. I was dropping off my daughter at her preschool, then going to my physical therapy session. There was a young man in there who didn’t even look injured. I was in my early 40’s. He looked to be in his 20’s. I said to him, “Geeeez, you’re in great shape! You don’t even look injured.” He laughed and said, “Lady, I was hit by a vehicle driving by as I was loading my truck.” He was a garbage man or sanitation worker if that is the politically correct term. A person was driving fast and ran into him. He said it took him awhile before he got to the place where he was in his recovery.

Did you see recently on the news about the policeman hit by the train while he was trying to catch a suspect? Oh my gosh! He lived. His camera caught it all. He didn’t think he was standing that close to the tracks. Awful! Glad he is okay.

Yesterday in my city, a 68 year old caregiver and her 90 year client were hit by a car after attending morning mass. It was a hit & run and the good news is, thanks to video cameras in the area, they know who the driver is. It’s older man! He’s in his late 70s and no, not a feeble little old man. He clearly hit the poor ladies and didn’t care! He went to the food bank and got food while they lay in the road injured! The caregiver has been released but the 90 year old is still hospitalized.

A few years ago at one of our wal-marts, a senior citizen mowed down 2 other senior citizens in the parking lot. he was backing out and hit the gas pedal instead of the break and took out little 2 old ladies, one of whom died instantly!

I herniated three discs in my back, about 15 years ago just bending over, getting beer out of the liquor store fridge. And I was much younger then. It took a couple of weeks to start feeling better. More pain than childbirth and lasted much longer too.

Then just putting foot up in corner of tub while showering, and irritated those discs again. And putting n all those bulbs a couple months ago. Gotta be careful with that twisting while exerting, even a little bit. One false move....

Ice pack or alternating heat and cold may help.

How in the world can a person hurt their back by standing up from a seated position? I was watching the LSU game yesterday and was a little tense, wanting them to win, got up to get a drink and I felt a twinge of pain like I pulled a muscle or something. Is it because I was tense? I have heard about people hurting their back from sneezing while being in an awkward position. I have never hurt my back before like this. Will see if it eases up in a couple of days. If nothing improves I will visit my doctor.
