Msmadge is your county behind in the Times? My county has everything digitized. 12 years ago When I got married, they had to pull a paper record of my birth certificate when I went to get a new copy for the marriage license. There were rows and rows of metal cabinets with huge books full of birth certificates. Well I’ve lost it again and had to get another copy earlier this year when I got my “real ID”. I was quite surprised to see the clerk at the county office put special paper in the printer and print a new birth certificate off her computer! I guess your county doesn’t do that? They still use paper records? So ridiculous that you have to go to another office further away!

Who would have thought that a few gentle toe touches and using my under-the-desk exercycle would cause unwanted side effects. I've been good, really I have, but it's been 4 weeks already and I'm going nutso just sitting on my azz 😖.

Oh I feel for you! Mine is when my mom in law thinks she has to take her medications in the evening because she doesn't remember taking them that morning. I am at the point of going to keep her meds in my room so she doesn't have access to them. I am probably going to have a battle over it on my hands. Good luck to you!

MsMadge,
i had to get a birth certificate 3 months ago and while speaking with the clerk in the court admin office i asked her if the ' old ' hospital didnt used to be on this very lot . she assured me that was correct . i pointed around the general floor space of her office and told her i was likely born ( quite literally ) right here .

id returned to the scene of the crime .

Madge, I once had to replace my sewer main and water supply line. It was a late 1800's home. Sewer line was clay, water was iron(?), don't remember. The Roto-rooter guy ended up having that snake go right through the clay pipe, no choice, had to replace it. While I was at it replaced water line too, it had calcified so the pipe was only, maybe 1/4" in diameter. Couldn't shower and run any other water the pressure was so bad.

To make matters worse, those older neighborhoods don't have easements for utilities, the shortest route was the only way, right under the yard of the idiot next door with the house that hadn't been painted in years, paint all flaking off, weeds for a yard. He wouldn't let me dig up his weeds so had to bore under his yard for the new lines. That was about 15 years ago now. The cost about 10K.

There was technology of an pipe replacement that was called in situ, where a flexible fabric pipe would be run into the existing line, expanded, and the clay would break away. Much cheaper but not an approved construction method by the utility company, at that time, it was, though soon after.

NHWM, I read this funny and thought you would get a kick out of it, being from Louisiana. It said, "If Adam and Eve had been cajuns, they would have eaten the snake instead of the fruit and saved us all a whole lot of trouble."

Well I skipped out of work early after going in late

had to call rooter service to snake the main sewer line - wasn't my regular guy though and this one thought I'd willingly agree to spend $10,000 to replace the pipe - not

made it to the area county office two minutes to closing with my notarized application for my birth certificate only to be told I'm too old and need to go to the HQ office 20 miles away - WTF?

Sorry, I did not speak up (Nov. 24th) when I suspected pneumonia because I am not an expert nor a doctor. Sorry you were suffering, but glad you are getting better now. Be sure to take all of the antibiotics until gone, even if you feel better.

My "whine" is that it took doctors until last week to diagnose this cough that I have had since October 27th as pneumonia and thus give me antibotics instead of just prednisone and albuterol. Now, finally, I'm getting well.

My whine.... the price of groceries. Guess the tariffs are making their rounds.

I would love to purchase more American made products, but items such as cookies are just too sugary compared to oversea products. And don't mess with my chocolates !! Price of fish has gone up, too.

Canned pet food, such a cat food, I use to get those small cans for $.55 each, now they are $.70 each.

My DL expires the end of January - I figured I had time over the holidays to study a bit and go take the exam

With the new real ID requirements, I need a copy of my birth certificate so decided to look online today - yikes - it can take a month to process even if I walk in and pay in cash plus I need a notary to stamp my application

Captain,

Hahaha I don’t hate men. I definitely don’t hate my husband. I despise men who are jerks or women who are jerks for that matter.

I respect and appreciate all people, men and women who are loving and kind with a good sense of humor.

Gershun,

I am a former holiday cooker! I quit doing it a few years back. Not worth the hassle. I cook all the time and will cook for the immediate family but never, ever again for extended family!

Stupid brothers with their dumb opinions about religion and politics. We don’t have anything in common. They are blowhards that love themselves. I had enough of it all.

My word! I respect all faiths. I don’t care if someone wants to worship a tree in their backyard. It’s their business, not mine.

I am a believer but I am not a fanatical hypocrite like they are. Well, the older one. The younger one is practicing to be like him, he’s getting there!

Good for you for being true to yourself. Not everyone has to be Martha Stewart.

Captain,

My husband has traveled so much with work. Our joke used to be when he would walk in the door, put his brief case down, and we’d say, “I know that face. You look vaguely familiar.”

His international travels are for a month at the time. So it would be my month away! He and I and family and friends could do other trips.

A fantasy, right? If I won that much money, everyone would win! I most definitely would share.

I was the only girl in my family. I always wanted a sister. So, hell yeah! I would make my fantasy trip come true and have all the sisters that I wanted as a child for a month or so.

I would not give my a**hole brothers a second thought! Hahaha

Cali,

Holidays can be such a hassle with families! Sorry you haven’t been feeling well. Feel better soon. Hugs!

I don’t buy lottery tickets. I forget. Don’t ever think about it but once in awhile I dream about winning a mega prize.

If I ever would, I am telling all of you that we would select a date and all go on the biggest, most expensive, luxury vacation of our lives!

No husbands, no kids, just us women for a grand time all to ourselves. I would tell everyone not to even bother to pack a suitcase because with that much money we could all go shopping anywhere our hearts desired! Hahaha

I am thinking about at least a month for ourselves or maybe more! Nice dream, huh? I think we’d have a blast! No cooking, no cleaning, no anything but pampering ourselves and seeing beautiful sights and doing interesting things.

Think our hubby’s would miss us? Hahaha

Thank you frazzled & Cwillie. So hubby did tell his sister to come later. Her family got here around 2:30. Which is great because he didn’t get home from Starbucks until 12:30. I was still thrown off by having to get myself ready so early though. And now Physically I feel terrible and my body is aching & I can’t wait to take a hot bath later tonight. But I still managed to prepare a full thanksgiving dinner and I’ve got a house full of happy people with full bellies and that’s all that matters! Hubby’s 2 uncles are here as well (MILs brothers) which is a nice surprise! Can’t help but feel a little emotional though because we’re all missing her terribly. But it’s nice having her brothers here. For a minute, i stood in the kitchen feeling like death warmed over thinking “holy chit I have to do this all over again in a few weeks” and just dreading it terribly and not wanting to do all this work! But fingers crossed, I won’t get sick at Christmas time and Christmas prep will be easy peasy!

hubby is disappointed because I didn’t have time to make his pecan pie. Told him I will make it tomorrow. And that as soon as the kitchen is clean tonight, I’m going on vacation for 2 days and he & the kids can eat leftovers all weekend or fend for themselves because I’m not doing a damn thing!

I can’t taste anything so I couldn’t taste test as I cooked (I do everything by taste) & thought the food was salty but everyone is raving over dinner! I’m actually glad SIL and the kids got here earlier, 2:30 worked out just fine!

Frazzled I cannot believed the nerve of your BIL! I would have been livid myself. He must have gotten the idea from national lampoons Christmas vacation LOL! Clark’s BIL did that to the griswalds in that movie!!

I feel for you, Worried. Sounds about like our Thanksgiving last year. I was cranky, sleep deprived, and about ready to pull my hair out when my BIL and his family of 5 just decided to show up for the weekend on Thanksgiving morning unannounced. Hugs, I hope you're able to get some rest and relax after the chaos dies down. I don't see a thing wrong with excusing yourself a little early and taking a nap or just some quiet time for yourself. You deserve it. Ask hubby and SIL to help with the cleanup.

Worried some people need it spelled out for them explicitly: Dear hubbie, I need you to do A, B and C on Thursday and I need you to be here at 12:00 to entertain your sister and the kiddies because I'm doing X, Y and Z and then I'm having a shower. I will NOT be doing A, B and C so if you don't follow through we will be doing without.
And seriously, park your SIL and kiddies in front of the TV and just go about your business, it's just family and they can deal (or not, lol).

Seems a bit wrong to have a whine moment today but I’ve got to vent for a minute otherwise this holiday is going to end very badly over here.....

i must have had a moment of temporary insanity when I told hubby I was going to stay home & cook and he could invite anyone he wanted. First we had an issue with the time I set—hubby felt 5pm was too late and SIL has to go to her in-laws and has to leave her by 4:30. Before I knew she had to leave by 4:30, I changed the time to 4 and she asked if they could come over earlier so the kids could play. Stupid me assumed “early” meant 2-3pm. I mean never ever have they come over and stayed for 4 hours! Joke was on me because she decided to come over at noon and & make it sound like I had already agreed to it!

So this morning I ask hubby to ask her to come between 1-2 instead and tell me why does he focus on dinner and want to argue it with me? He says they aren’t coming to eat so it doesn’t matter how early they come. I tell him set a specific time for dinner for a reason! Just tell her to come between 1-2 so that I have time to shower and get myself ready. I don’t care about dinner, I won’t be ready for guests at noon. Of course I am the bad guy now!! We were raised very differently and I’ve always been the bad guy because my way of doing things is rude in their book. Always. So I am not surprised by this. I’m always the unreasonable one! Well the way I was raised, it is unreasonable to show up 4 hours early because it is generally known that the hosts are knee deep in cooking and cleaning! My husband thinks it’s No big deal because they just want to hang out. I’ve been sick for 3 days now and I had chills and hot flashes all night so I NEED A DAMN SHOWER! And the kitchen always becomes the main hangout so I don’t need a bunch of adults standing around in my way while i’n Trying to cook, while a bunch of kids are running through the house like a pack of wild dogs! He just doesn’t get it! And no one in this family ever wants to go against SIL and tell her no! I’ve accepted that I can’t change their behaviors but I can change mine and I can say no and put my foot down. Even if it makes me the bad guy! This is the last time I host thanksgiving. I’ll cook for my own immediately family but this is it. This is a bunch if horse chit in my opinion. No respect for the host whatsoever! Typing this out I see how how petty my complaint is. But in this moment I am very annoyed by it all! I’m tempted to whip up the side dishes at record speed, put the prime rib in the oven & tell hubby when to take it out and go back to bed!

and to boot!!! He made plans to meet his best friend at Starbucks at 11 knowing damn well he’ll sit there for a good hour!! And this is knowing his sister is supposed to come at noon! And he didn’t want to ask her to come later. Year after year it’s the same thing, he goes and hangs out at Starbucks while I’m knee deep in cooking and last minute cleaning. His idea of helping? Washing down the patio and cleaning the garage!! Year after year...this is how it is. So why I bring this stress upon myself, I don’t know. Nothing ever changes. I cannot believe I was foolish enough to do this again! Stupid stupid stupid!!
