Speaking of make-up. I use to use liquid eye-liner all the time, but as I have gotten older I don't any more. The main reason is that my hand starts to tremor and what a mess.... maybe this is how the "smokey eye" style got started :P

I'm sorry you have to put up with such a sub par facility MsM, as much as I like to complain my mom's NH seems like the ritz in comparison. I wish there was a better option for the viking and you.

yes, alone, asleep you name it
and no one knows if someone ate or drank - sometimes the one person on the kitchen staff who I have a rapport with will give me a look and I'll know whether mom ate or not

as it turns out, the director was still onsite and came over to make sure I wasn't hurt - I was a bit sore during the night but nothing bad - had it been anything more than it was I would report it outside the facility

from the moment mom entered hoca until this day, it has been a disappointment and a very expensive one at that

it is so hot again today
mom couldn't wake up for lunch and private caregiver just texted she's being fussy and not eating
this journey is so exhausting

MsM, would they leave your mom to finish her food alone if you weren't there? My mom is very slow too and I suspect that once they have put in 10 - 15 minutes the meal is considered over. It is especially ridiculous when our table is served last and they come by charting how much everyone ate/drank 5 minutes after we've started.

MsMadge, sorry you and the Viking had to deal with that. I don't blame you, I'd be cranky too. They need someone from staff supervising those that are still milling around after meals. I'd talk to whoever is in charge there and let them know that your mom could've gotten hurt.

I'm in a cranky mood

since I went into the office last weekend, I decided to leave at 5 pm today to be with mom for part of dinner

she's a slow eater, and I think she has a toothache - as usual we're still at the table while most of the other residents have been moved to the tv room -

a couple of women are milling about and I notice one standing next to another slow eater, and she's swiping her ice cream - no one is around and poor M doesn't even have a drink so I get her some juice

next thing I know, the ice cream thief is over by the Viking trying to take the handle off her wheelchair which reclines the seat so I tell her not to touch mom's chair and she gets mad and starts sticking her spoon in mom's face -

I try to get between her and mom and tell her to go to the other room but she starts cussing and of course no one is around so I decide to ignore her and she's still cussing but starts to walk away

As I'm standing over mom, she comes from behind me and punches me in the back

I am so fed up with everything- luckily mom didn't get hit but had I not been there tonight who knows what might have happened if she was there alone

(((BootShopGirl))), I'm very sorry you are going through this. I feel your pain...my mom is currently in the Geri Psych unit too. I hope your poor mom gets to feeling better soon. Sometimes it just takes awhile for them to figure out what meds will work best. Hugs, take care of you too.

Dear Send,
I of course had to look up what a 5150 was!
My poor Mama seems to have had 1 of those again. She just made it back from the Geriatric Psych Unit to Memory Care and they sent her back again. Mercy! I'm going to have to get the tall boots out....this $#!t is getting deep.
I'm just cranky because I love my Mama but I am so sad about her Alzheimer's brain. Nighty Night friends. Rant's Over!

When I was in my 20's, make-up was blush on my cheeks, lipstick and eye liner on my eye brows. My eyes were too sensitive for me to use eyeliners on it - so no cat eyes or Asian looking eyes. Cheek blush didn't last long since I always struggled trying to make it match on both cheeks. I finally gave up on that - too much struggle. I've never did learned how to put on make-up. Still not interested, decades later. =)

I love Betty White, but missed the Emmy's

received a a text from a school pal that her mom is in hospital and not doing well - frail body but perfect mind so she felt blessed

granted most of my friend's parents are younger than the Viking but I can't imagine it's any easier for the person to know they're dying

The dH thing is going around, like the flu. So we understand Lu.
A neighbor's husband is 5150 holdable tonight, verbally, but not physical. I must be losing my edge, because normally I would have called 911 on his behalf.

My own just cannot think straight, trying to decrease stress here. it is important.

Talk later everyone, missing you!

Did anybody else see Betty White on the Emmy Awards? It broke my heart...........seriously. When you see the obvious deterioration of her speech and how much she has aged. She's 96, God love her, but seeing her up there reminded me of my dear departed Mom so much. :(

But she still has the wit, I'll give her that.

Waterfalls, you are preaching to the choir here. I've always taken really great care of my skin.

No one was suggesting that we should all give up when we get older. LOL

I understand about the noise and inconsiderate people outside. Motorcycles all hours, people talking loud, etc etc. With us being caregivers it's important for us to have quiet. Unruly people come into nice neighborhoods and become a mess with poor habits. I can't even relax and read without hearing banging, car doors slamming all the time, trucks flying down the block!! To me it's a no brainer to be considerate of neighbors.

Evermore maybe your mom is like my mom. It takes her hours to get herself together. Sometimes people are just not morning people and like to start their days late. Moms psych team said I have to adjust to her needs not my own. It's about her, what she she wants. She's the senior. She also could be resisting you because of control reasons. Start paying closer attention to when she coooerates with you & when she doesn't. Her moods, what she says and doesn't say. For yourself, go ahead & do what you feel is important for the day so you feel a sense of accomplishment without depending on her to rise to the occasion. Lower your expectations of her. Her body could be changing and she may need more rest. You don't know. My mom sometines takes hours to get herself together on some days. Other days 123. What I want my mom to do sometimes she doesn't want to do. We argued all the time until recently I put an end to it. It was making me sick. Its not worth it. Your will be making lots of adjustments along the way!!! Take time for yourself, relax. Don't let the anger & resentment build up. Have a great day!

I totally agree, good skin care and a little light make-up makes me feel so much better about myself, so I need to do that more often! My daughter is a ULTA fanatic, always buying make-up and skin care products, but often they don't work out for her skin for some reason and she passes them onto me. I have So much product that also goes to waste because of the 6 months toss rule, still I never toss it before a year and have never had a problem with it.

My daughter also has a Friend who is enrolled in several of those monthly beauty box subscriptions, so she passes a bunch of that stuff onto me, and I end up sharing with my sister it's so much. I haven't had to buy stuff for a long time, which is great because it's So expensive any more. And triple bonus, my daughter's MIL is a Rep for BVLGARI, so I now have the most Beautiful collection of Perfume you've ever seen, which I have displayed on a mirror on my bathroom counter for all to try.

I do think it's important to keep up with our appearances for ourselves, and to continue to try to look nice for our spouses. This Caregiving gig can really get us in a rut, and I've been most guilty of letting myself go during the rough patches. I'm really trying hard now to get up, washed and dressed each day, rather than later around in my long sleeves T-shirts and leggings, my Uniform of choice, as I used to do when caring for my FIL. It definitely is much better way to begin the day. I was getting Really Lazy there for a while!

Hi Gershun. Trust me I don't plaster my face with makeup. Lol.. I would look terrible. I said "lightly". It just feels good to spruce up when your tired and look tired. Had nothing to do with comparing myself to my twenties. Although naturally I don't look far from it!!! Lol..... Lol!!! I believe as we get older we don't have to put up with the aging process to the point where we look dried up. To me it's a simple step of staying hydrated which takes care of wrinkling. We should feel good about ourselves as people but take care of our skin and appearance as we age.

Just really annoyed right now. Since I don't drive and live in a rural area, it's really hard to get anything done. One of our dogs is has only one cup of dog food left for tomorrow morning and my mother and I had agreed to go and get dog food in today, late morning since she wanted to watch her stupid Cleveland Browns game (can you tell that I can't stand football). I got up, showed an dressed and reminded her that dog food was needed and we agreed that I would deposit a check since my bank is next store. I wanted to get it done today since both my parents have a boatload of doctors appointments and it wouldn't get done. She just sat around all flipping day, doing nothing. She was wondering why I got angry. Told her flat out that the agreement was to get dog food and go to the bank in the morning, then she could watch her football game and play on her stupid Kindle. I also let her have it about her idiocy about what needs to be done, grocery shopping, making returns and the like but it never gets done. She lies around in bed, reading the books she has on her Kindle. I'm more of a get up early, get ready and just get those things done so it's not hanging over my head. Waiting until 7 in the evening to do that stuff doesn't fly with me. I said that I will not waste days off for this nonsense. She complained about her depression and my retort was that I have depression but I get my fat butt out of bed and make myself do what needs to be done and done early in the day, just so it's done. I'm just sick of this.

It is 11:30 p.m. What the heck a very loud party about .25 miles south of here. Same people with the illegal fireworks around July 4th. Young kids yelling and fighting. Parents there too, what is wrong with some people. So inconsiderate. Just a bit ago sounded like six gunshots, was hoping to hear sirens blaring because someone else called cops. But nope. 😣

Waterfalls, I used to wear so much makeup. When I look at old pictures of myself in my twenties I can't believe it. I feel a sense of freedom now that I didn't have then. It was insecurity back then that I don't have anymore and although I still like to look good I don't feel I need to plaster make up on to look nice. Plus I think less is more when you are of a certain age.
