I gave in and turned on the air conditioner today, it runs but it won't bring the temperature down below 77°. Great, first my tires need replacing and now the A/C is acting up.

My whine today, MIL's knee doing much better which is good, but now she is up and running about and wreaking havoc. Today she cooked a huge dinner and half of it seemed to end up on the kitchen floor...lots of rice and peas. Her kitchen is always a huge greasy mess that we clean up afterward as best as possible. Hubby goes along with the messy cooking because it makes her happy. Me? sweaty and grease covered after the clean up, and probably put on weight after all the food she serves though I try to not eat all of it and get rid of it when she is not looking. She cooks for 10 people though there are three of us on Sundays at her house.

Lucky, that woman sounds like a real loser. I marvel at the stupid comments I have experienced too. It seems like some people have no filters and don't think. She has to look at her face in the mirror each day and live with her stupid comments to others, but you hopefully won't run into her again. ((Hugs)).

The do nothing for her, my husband again. He acts as if he may have early on set ad and he has even said it himself, but I can't take care of myself let alone his mom OR HIM. I just want him to get her home sold, etc, get an elder law attorney to protect himself from his siblings, etc. Am I asking too much? A lot of this should've been taken care of a long time ago. I wish his sibs would put their mother first, but we know that is out of the question.

Katie22, I no longer drive on roads where the speed limit is 55 or higher as people were riding my bumper even though I was going the posted speed limit. Once cellphones became very popular I had noticed many read-ended accidents, that also made me decide to do as little driving as possible.

One thing interesting, if I am driving sig other 20+ year old Jeep that looks like it has been through the wringer, V8 engine that the exhaust makes a cool grumbling sound, and that has hooks under the back bumper for pulling stuff, other drivers tend to keep their distance :)

How cool to get places with a horse.

Ugh, driving the DC Beltway....I am a control freak in that I have to do the driving anywhere we are. I am a nervous passenger. I drove the Beltway a couple of years ago in 3pm traffic with one eye completely clouded over with cataracts. Have since had surgery to see. I was either very brave or crazy! I worry as I age that traffic just gets worse and moves faster that at some point I won't want to drive. My dad had a horse in Europe when he was young living in a rural area that would just take him home.

Well, today we made a little more progress in finding mom a place. We toured another facility, one that she seems to like more than the last one we looked at, but she was complaining about the cost. Within her budget but will depend on how much extra the med care is before we know for sure. Supposed to go back and meet with their manager on Tuesday. Mom still undecided but I'm hopeful.

Right now, it's almost 12:40 am and she's still sitting right here in the living room, just staring at my husband and I. Not watching tv or anything, just doesn't want to miss anything. I swear, our only alone time is when we go to sleep. She usually won't go to bed until I do. We have to sneak outside to have a private conversation, and even then she tries to eavesdrop. That's one thing I'm looking forward to eventually when mom moves out, being able to have a free moment with my hubby again in our house.

Luckylu, I wouldn't have let it go. I would have said something like, mind over matter, if you mind, then it does matter. Then I would have flipped my hair back and waltzed out with my nose in the air.

Sorry Lu, :(

FF - if you're ever in the market for a new printer, get an HP with Instant Ink capability. It's been the best thing I ever did when buying a printer! The printer is wifi-connected, so it monitors how much I print, and sends a report to HP. When I reach a certain point, it automatically ships me a new cartridge. I pay $5.95 a month right now for that service, and it's totally worth it in my book not to have to run out and buy a $25 cartridge when I run out unexpectedly.

Dorianne,
Cool site (twistedsifter). I went all the way back to June 2017! It's great 'cause there isn't a lot of reading, so you can stop and do something else. Great for distraction from day to day concerns.

Thanks for the referral.

Veronica91, driving and heavy traffic. Back when I was younger I use to breeze around the Capital Beltway here in the Wash DC area without a care in the world. Now that I am older, I wouldn't take a million dollars to drive on that road now !!

For me, my best bet is driving at 3 a.m. when I have the road all to myself but nothing is opened at that time :P

Veronica,
Uber!
Less than a cab and you can leave the traffic to them. Get the app on your phone and they know right where to pick you up.

Sounds like he should hang up his keys. If the girls won't ride with him, you may want to follow their lead.

Been concerned about Dh's driving habits for many years, even the kids wont ride with him, they insist on driving him in his car to get somewhere. He has been slower and more careful in recent years but this morning coming out of the bank he drove straight into the back of the car in front of us.
Since we moved a month ago I have not even dared to drive in the heavy traffic guess I must try soon.
DH has been so overwhelmed by everything it is quite scary

AliBoBali, thanks I totally forgot about shaking the print cartridges. Back at one job I use to shake those large print cartridges that came with the inkjet printers :)

Hopefully it will give me another day or two of printing !!

FF, I've had some success in the past with getting my printer to do a bit more printing past its self-declared quitting time. I turn the printer off, disconnect, shake up the print cartridges (very scientific and exact, I know, haha) and turn back on.  Half the time, the printer will carry on like nothing is wrong. lol The sale of replacement ink cartridges are a huge money maker for printer companies and while I don't mind that, I also will see if my cartridges are truly empty or just playing dead.

Murphy's Law... the printer decided that it was hungry for ink... oh great, I usually keep an extra box of all the colors plus black, but sure enough I don't have one. I can order from an on-line company and get the box the next day but tomorrow is Sunday and then Memorial Day. So Tuesday would be the earliest. BUT I WANT TO PRINT NOW !!

And my beloved neighborhood Staple Store closed it doors a few months ago... my gosh it was like visiting DisneyWorld for me in that store !!

I just got up to use the bathroom. Mom was sitting on the couch, eating yesterday's Timbits (I went back to the drive-thru) and flipping through a copy of Hello! magazine. No walker in sight - she walked out here and actually made it without falling.

"What are you doing up so early, Mom?"

"I'm READING." (With the curtains closed, the lights out, and no glasses.)

"Well, if you're up, then I have to get up too."

I sat on a dining chair. Mom continued flipping pages. (Note that she never rises before dinnertime on non-dialysis days.)

"It's six in the morning, Mom."

"FINE I'll go back to bed."

"I'll get the wheelchair."

"No, I don't WANT the wheelchair!"

"Mom, I can't keep picking you up when you fall, you're gonna kill my back."

"FINE."

Then I wheeled her to her room. On the way, she said, "Can't you turn the heat up?"

(Note that we're experiencing 30C/85F summer highs lately, and it's already up to 23C/74F inside.) "Mom, it's boiling in here."

"Well I'm freezing!"

"Well if you hadn't refused to wear your pajama pants last night you probably wouldn't be."

I put a second comforter on the bed.

Mom: "I HOPE nobody's coming in today."

"Mom, home support is here to help ME."

Mom: *whines like the love child of Eliza Doolittle and a pre-nap toddler* "Awwwohhhhwwwww!" (Not a wholly accurate phonetic representation but you get the idea.)

Me: "MOM I'M NOT WIPING YOUR DIRTY BUM EVERY TIME YOU REALLY EXPECT A LOT FROM ME WHY DO YOU THINK I GOT SO SICK."

That's how it happens. The part where I lose my patience and snap at her. Sigh.

I'm going to try to go back to sleep now.

Whine for the day.... one of my horses is smarter than I am; he didn't come when I opened the gate to the field so they could graze a couple hours, so I went to get his grain and hay instead, but DIDN't close the gate. Guess who scarfed up his grain and beat it out the gate before I could get back to it? Aaargh....

Since it's Friday - a thing that used to mean something when I had a Monday to Friday job - may I recommend The Shirk Report on twistedsifter.com for people's entertainment/de-stressing pleasure? Comes out every Friday, and I do look forward to it - just a bunch of funny pics and videos, and some interesting articles, culled from the internet. Usually meant for when you're "shirking" on Friday afternoons at work.  :-)
