What Vronica said we can express our opium in the US as far as I understand-I am sure there are those who think I am a royal bitch for speaking up at our Senior Center about things that are wrong but guess what I will continue I spent too many decades getting walked all over and walking on eggshells-if I see something I will say something

MOLD INFO AND WHAT TO DO:

I have same problem. Headaches and other issues. I found out this can be controlled. Buy an air purifyer: found one for about $50: even if you move it to room to room or buy a big one for more $, the health benefits are worth it! Walmart has one and the reviews look fine. So that's my one plan.
Thank God the landlord had to replace the old toilet which was real mold farm, but it's still in the air, so more cleaning effort and air purifyer will help a lot. Today I'll clean the AC and windows with white vinegar, baking solda, or peroxide. Read the article on it. All very helpful. Best luck! Don't delay: mold is serious business.

Hey StandingAlone: I too admire your outspokenness. Airing your thoughts are very important and can help us all move on to ideas, solutions, and real honest talk with each other. You might find that you are NeverAlone!

As much as I like to vent, and believe me I do when it is safe and might be constructive, I find that my venting is like a boomerang and it hits me in the heart after too much indulgence! When you find others back away from you, I think it could be a sign, you've overindulged and there might be a better way to find your way back to your own inner wisdom and inner peace. I have a sense that you have tons of strength! Letting others get our goat, steal our inner peace, and not being able to be loving and open to others is something I am working on every day.
Many, many days, (mostly when I am with my Mom for a few hours), I notice my body undergoing negativity and my health is immediately effected.
Just treated myself to a yoga class for one month. Learning how to WATCH my reactions, note them, but not trade them in for my inner joy.
Do what's right for you, but I do think eventually you realize the place we all must end up is where we resist the most! And those moments when we arrive in understanding and let go of all that anger, that's when we feel a rush of joy and peace.

I think God has a good set up for us. Might as well keep on that road and see how much of Him I can reflect...got a lonnnnnnnnnnng way to go!

Judda, I hear what you're saying. The only forum I ever vent on is here. On other forums, it's usually other people doing the complaining, and from my side of the fence, after all I've seen and endured and been through, it's a tad difficult for me to dredge up sympathy on command as seems to be required for every person in creation that feels like having a poor me fest and expecting me to act and conform to certain mindsets. Hell, I had 48 years of that crap with my mom, dictator that she was. I damn sure don't want anyone else telling me how to think or expecting me to act in certain ways because it happens to be what the masses do. I'm just not down with it and when I resist it, by insisting on being me and simply being honest, I'm looked at like I'm an alien under a microscope. And I see the masses the same way. I'm determined to be who I am and if they don't like it, they can piss off. If someone is asking for advice in a public forum I think they should be prepared to hear the views of many other people, whether they agree with that person or not. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore. It seems to be that if you're not in 100% agreement with people and have the audacity to actually voice a differing view, or God forbid, mention how they can actually DO something and help themselves, you're considered 'mean' and 'insensitive'. I'm real sorry, but I don't ooze sympathy on command and it's a shame that I seem to be required to do just that to get along.

And Austin, yes...walking on eggshells is about right. And I'm about sick of being required to tip toe through 100,000 different tulip fields. The world just seems so ass backward to me.

When they started giving out trophies for 20th place, patting those kids on the head and sending the message that no, they really didn't have to do shit but breath to be considered wonderful, special little snowflakes entitled to praise for zero effort, the gates of hell cracked open, imo. lol

I'm driving down to the beach tomorrow. Sun, wind, waves, salt and gulls...ahhhh...can't wait!

Book,

Suggestions about the mold are great.
It is a known fact that mold does cause many health problems.
I'm a sinus sufferer also. I've been doing the sinus rinses for some time now.
They have helped me very much. So don't be afraid to do them. Of course it will feel uncomfortable at first, but the relief that can be felt outweighs this. You will get accustomed to it.

The other thing though........I have read about how you like ice cream.
Believe it or not, ice cream can really provoke sinuses. It happens to me.
I'm not a big ice cream eater, but my husband likes it. I have to keep reminding him not to over do it because he has high cholesterol, so that isn't good for him.
This summer was very hot, so I did eat more ice cream than I usually do, which wasn't even that much. Oh boy, was I sorry a day after, and two I'd eaten it.
Try to take note of what you have been eating, prior to a sinus flare up.
Another thing.......ice cream being dairy, will cause phlegm, hence the stuffy nose.
Oh yes, when you have sinus problems you have to become a detective w/diet,
and environment.

Much Love & Light! Margeaux

Hi Margeaux: I used to love ice cream too, but now my tummy gives me nightmares afterwards. So I am enjoying goat yogurt with trader joe's pumpkin butter with some walnuts or pecans on top. Or Greek yogurt. I experiment with Trader Joe's jams that have little or no preservatives and less sugar, but plenty of fruit and sweetness. Or just add real fruit. Now I don't miss the ice cream.

We need not worry though we have the Capt to take care of us. He respects women especially if they have a nice derrier?sp my French is rusty

I'm at the moment struggling to NOT eat ice cream daily. Ever since I came back from the doctor with a weight increase of 6 lbs since 3 months ago. I need to cut back my weight gain because I'm lousy at following thru with exercising.

I've got everthing now for the sinus rinse. I just have to figure out when to use it since when I blow my nose, I'm spotting blood. I've read enough online to know that I shouldn't do the rinse if there's bleeding.

I had a terrible sinus-allergy this morning. Fave niece dropped off ribs from Chili's. It was the dry rub ribs. I took one bite, tasted the different herbs and knew that one of it would trigger my sinus. It did. Plus, I've also noted that when I take my daily handful of walnuts and almonds in the evenings, I wake up with sinus. The thing is... if I keep avoiding everything that causes me sinus - dairy, nuts, garlic, curry, italian seasonings, nuts, etc.... what do I have left to eat?

I tell you this, those handful of nuts a day sure make me very regular in the BM daily. But the ice cream - I've been good for the past few days. Although my mind keeps telling me to go get some.

Boss and I have been sniffling all morning today at work. I'm going to take the RX Motrin prescribed by doc. Maybe it will ease the pounding of my stuffed up head. My nose is not stuffed up, nor am I draining out (as in blowing my nose). Lunchtime now. I'm taking the Motrin and then off to work.

Thanks for tips.

FYI, I will admit that I haven't mopped the moldy wall in the bathroom because I'm so scared of inhaling it. I can already smell the mold when I walk in. Imagine when I'm cleaning it. I'm thinking of getting another pail to use to rinse off the mop every time I swipe. This way it doesn't go into the treated water. I'm still trying to figure it out. I've got all the cleaning supplies for it, too.

Book, I just googled "mold bomb" thinking of a bug spray bomb that used to be advertised. You know the one activate it, leave the house, come back later and no more live bugs?

There is a bomb for mold, treats up to 2800 square feet in one application. Set it, leave, and forget it. I do question whether this would actually work though. But might be worth checking into.

I don't think so. We only have 1 bathroom. Sis goes to it every hour. Our house has high ceiling. So, for me to do a thorough job cleaning the wall with the mop, I will need to stand on something like a chair. Then get down, squeeze the mop, etc.. then get back up the chair. And our wall paint is peeling. So, I will be dealing with flaking paints as I clean. Thanks for the brainstorming idea.

I forgot to mention, that we had a temporary respite worker. Dad really liked her. Her last day here, she massaged him. He truly liked it and keeps waiting for her to come again. I've tried over and over to explain to him that she was just covering for his regular respite worker but.... He just doesn't understand. Actually, he thinks both of them are Not from the same company but of 2 business entities. I gave up trying to explain it.

Book, that peeling paint may be feeding the mold. Have you ever checked the paint for lead? And other areas of the house for asbestos? They sell test kits at home depot.

Peeling paint + mould = damp problem. I should have thought that in Book's location it does kind of go with the territory, though, no? Very hard to get and keep things dry enough, and when modern materials aren't designed for the environment they're used in… terribly difficult to tackle.

Book, surely this is the kind of major project where it's appropriate to bat your eyelashes and get a brother-and-his-buddies involved? They want to strip the walls, get everything completely dry, and then redecorate with a paint that allows the wall to breathe. Tell them how wonderful and strong and clever they are, poor little you could never manage all that… flattery will get you everywhere.

Book go to Home depot and buy one of those respirator type masks so you don't inhale while you clean able buy a secure step ladder while you are there. See if they have any long handled mops for the job and proper stuff to kill the stuff. they even have disposeable suits to wear. give sis a bucket to pee in while you get the job done.
Never mind fluttering your eyes as CM sugests i suspect that would not work in your culture. this is where dad's tax money should be spent.

ICE CREAM -- thats the highlight of my day. I'm caring for my Downs brother who is showing signs of alzheimers. He has collapsed a few times and ended up in the hospital for a couple of days. Now that was an experience. However, in my quiet moments I thank God for allowing me this time to care for this innocent person and help make the remainder of his life as easy as possible. I tell myself no to the ice cream but keep on eating it. No self control.

Taking our minds off the grief and feelings with food is fun and I am happy I like to try different things out. So Alice, why not try making your own ice cream? Then you can control the ingredients and have it be healthy and delicious. I saw a recipe online for avocado ice cream! Not so sure I'd like that. I'd rather just take a spoon to an avocado.

Thanks Margeaux about the info of dairy and sinus allergies.

CM, Veronica is right - batting my eyes won't work. Money will. The thing is, will they do a good job cleaning it or a half-a** job at it. Let me figure this out.

Veronica, hopefully I can drop by Home Depot tomorrow and see if they have the respirator mask.

I went with oldest bro to a hardware store to buy a large canvas (tarp) 10 x 40 ft... to cover the backside of the house. This is the area in which my dad's wooden project eroded from time and weather. So, now when it rains, it rains into the kitchen and our outdoor washer and dryer are getting wet. Always have to worry about getting electrocuted from the rain entering the power outlet. So, that 40 feet will cover one corner of the house to the area of the washer/dryer. Guess how much it cost? Shocked me. $920.00!!!! I think with that cost, we could have tried another wooden shelter? I would think the wooden shelter would last longer than the canvas/poles shelter when it comes to tropical storms and typhoons. I'm really stressing over this. I told oldest bro that spending that much money, they better take down the canvas when it's tropical/typhoon winds. I can just imagine those poles flying and damaging the apartments and the tenants cars - from all 3 sides of our house!! Wait, even my car would be in danger, too.

I'm deathly allergic and sensitve to mold too - but guess who gets stuck finding and cleaning it ALL THE TIME...I keep N-96 masks handy and swear by Tilex, and lots of it. If my family complains about the smell of bleach, maybe they can avoid it by not leaving food and wet clothes around to invite mold spores to come flourish and grow, and remember to change the air filters before they get that lovely gray-green color.

I'm exhausted but better then I have been in a while. When I got home my mom was already going to bed and I decided I had to do something to keep her up so she will sleep or at least let us. My mom use to love to play dominoes but I having asked her because she also loved 42 but couldn't remember how to play but I thought ok it's worth a shot. I told her that while my partner is cooking dinner if you will get up I will play a few games and she was reluctant but did. She did have trouble keeping score but before I knew it she was beating me so I had to play harder than expected LOL. It seem to really give her a boost because as her memory goes she has told me it makes her feel stupid but seeing she could still add and quickly give me a run for my money, she went to bed at a normal time. nly got up once for the bathroom and actually remembered to ring the bell for me. I told her we would set three nights a week to do this and she seem so excited. I had not seen a real smile from her in a very long time. I was reading other post about giving them something to do and that wasn't working with mom but simple games of dominoes reminded her of better times and that she could still have fun we just have to find what works. :)

rfox... What a wonderful and inspiring story!... I try to involve/engage my mother in activities whenever I can. Games are wonderful (especially in the winter). I also ask my mother to do simple things like taking something out or putting something in the refrigerator, microwave me tea... or, whatever I can do, but it makes her feel useful. My mom also loves to do the jumble word puzzle in the newspaper (does she have a puzzle book?... some come in large print)... You're a wonderful daughter/family! Big Hug!

Rfox, thanks for sharing that! The only domino game I know is just matching the ends together. And making it stand up in squiggly forms, push the one end and then watch it knock itself down - as in a 'domino' effect. =) Joking aside, I didn't even know what a 42 was. I just googled it. And saw that long explanation and something about it being similar to 'bridge' but not as complicated... and my eyes started glazing over. Well, if your mom can still play that game, then she's still very sharp!

Sometimes, you just have to do things yourself. My niece's boyfriend says that he scrubbed it several times and it didn't go away. He says that our bathroom walls need to be water blasted. My mom never had to waterblast our bathroom. Why now? So, just before I changed dad's pampers, I stared at the wall. Since niece's boyfriend tried Clorox and it didn't work, what can I use? Sigh... I took my Vinegar/Dawn dishsoap bottle spray that I use for the shower, sprayed half of the wall that I can reach, took the mop, wet it, then mopped the wall. Bingo!!! All that black stuff came out soooo easily! Only problem was, that I had to get on this flimsy chair, almost tipped over while spraying the upper wall (but not able to the upper wall close to the ceiling - too high for me).

I tell you guys, that vinegar/Dawn dishsoap is a miracle worker! After I'm done showering tonight, I will spray the other half of the wall that I can reach, mop it. Tomorrow, I will check Home Depot for a... a ladder, a sturdy ladder - so that I can finish the top walls.

Book get a tall step stool with a rail at the top about 6 feet high. Try it in the store before you buy. It is important to get all the mold including the ceiling. If the mop handle is too short buy an extension. They should have them in the paint department. you should be able to unscrew your handle, screw in the new handle them screw the original to the long handle. Tell the people in the store what you are trying to do and they should help you find what you need. you may get something long enough that you don't need a step stool.
I know ther are other people here who DIY and may have other ideas.
