About the purse thing.... I would make a great bag lady.... would have even more room in the shopping cart for things I MIGHT need....

I used to have big purses - to stuff my junk in it. Wallet, papers, small notebook, small sharp scissors, eye glass emergency kit, etc... If someone needed something, I would pull it out of my purse. They usually get taken aback from it. When they lift my purse, they exclaim, "What is in there?! It's so heavy!." Well, I'm no longer able to wear a heavy purse.

Sis is now beginning to share her food that she buys. If any of you remember, one of my complaints was that I buy the food and she eats it - without offering me some of my food that she cooked. She still does that. The other day, I walked into the kitchen, she was cooking dinner - her dinner. I was too embarrassed to ask if she was making enough for me. After she was done eating, I checked if she cooked enough to include a meal for me. Nope.

The other day, I decided to make some hard boiled eggs. I can make soft boil. I rarely do hard boils. So, I googled to see how long to boil it. Waited until it was boiling, turned it off, and went back to the livingroom. Yep, I forgot to empty the water and put new water in it. Eggs came out funny smelling. Tasted awful, too. All well....

Be prepared was always my moto and like Book I carried everything and like book it is too painful to have the weight on my shoulder. Still take the big bag but it has to ride in the shopping cart. Expeditions to garage and rummage sales have their own small purse in my pocket and my reading glasses. now if I am looking at a house i have to have the meter to test the three pin outlets to check for proper wiring and a measuring tape plus a couple of screw drivers. These days also a cane because I WILL walk through the long grass to see what is hidden in that shed. i am also quite adept at loosing the home owners who are trailing me. i know they have lots to hide especially behing big pieces of furniture. oh I forgot this was about big purses.

Ho,ho Book were those Chinese eggs?

Good heavens, some of the purses I see out there look like they are heading to sit in the audience of "Let's Make a Deal" ;) Ok, who in the audience is carrying a can of hairspray?

No hairspray, would an emergency power outage light do?

How am I doing today? At the moment quite happy as I hired some landscapers to clean up my very neglected back yard, it's like a natural habitat that got totally out of control. Whew, if I had to do all that they are doing, I would probably drop in my tracks. Dad can't believe I am paying someone to do that work.... [sigh]. Wish my Dad [93] would do the same for his own back yard.

My days of doing my own yard work is long gone. It stopped when I became my parents set of *wheels* to drive them. My yard time became highway time :(

Momma has been using the Depends about a month now and seem to be doing okay, She is just losing control over her bladder. She is going to the primary care Dr Wednesday so I will give him an update on the new stuff going on with her. I'll ask him about Parkinson's. Thank you, good idea! She just seems to be getting weaker all the time. It doesn't happen fast, but I notice everything. Love to all!

Book...some people(myself included) have severe allergies to tea tree oil. It is pretty potent...and if you have sensitive skin...definitely stop using it....it can cause blisters and loss where applied as well. Definitely try cortizone cream...if it doesn't work, you may need a Rx steroidal cream...hugs to you and all the other caregivers. Reading everyone's posts has been extremely helpful. Thank goodness for all of you and for this site to help bring some help and see of normalcy to aus. Good night all and bless you all.

Freqflyr, I think anyone who does lawns/gardening must have patience. If I had money, I'd hire someone to come once a month to bushcut our place. Maybe you can just make a small private garden just for your own personal care and the landscapers can do the rest. I understand that gardening can be relaxing. My mom used to grow all kinds of orchids. They were so pretty when they bloomed (blossomed?) I chuckled about your cat's antic. Cats can be so smart.

College - great that your mom is finally accepting the Depends. Very important to make sure that she cleans herself well down there. Otherwise, she might get rashes and then start digging into it to scratch herself (and then spread the 'dirt' all over the place.) FYI, from experience, they will never believe that they are spreading poop. It's DIRT. They are Not children who touches their poop. So, it's dirt.

Hazy, I think I may be slightly allergic to it. Every time I use it on my cheeks, my eyes feel like it's stinging. Thanks for giving me the heads up.

Glad, I don't think there's any normalcy. Just when you think he likes this, the next you thing you know - he doesn't. Lastnight, my dad kept asking me almost every 5 minutes if it's morning yet. Morning as in 6am. Then when midnight hit, he said he has 6 more hours to go. Then 1:00am, he said it's now 5 more. He got bored waiting for the hours to go by until 6am, so he started talking loud and singing off-keyed (he used to sing so well). We both had a difficult time waking up this morning.

I had to share this before I hit the sack tonight. It's an exercpt from a book I'm reading. The main female character is doing her own sleuthing on who is the killer. She's in the alley and walking out in deep thoughts and didn't see the man reaching out to grab her until his hand closed around her arm.

She screamed & threw a punch, he evaded, while calling her name. It was the male main character. After her pounding heart calmed down, she said that she was surprised that no one came running. (They live in a small village community.)

The man replied, "I'm not. You don't scream very loud. It comes out as a little squeak Eee, eee." he mimicked in a strained whisper.

Her face went hot. "I don't believe you." I'd been screaming. Loudly.... Hadn't I?
Solemnly, he replied, "It's true. I can help you work on that." {{{he he, I and the female main character must have naughty thoughts!}}}

The female thought of some of the ways how, and her face went from hot to burning.

He must have realized how suggestive he sounded because he quickly added, "I give self defense seminars every few months. It might be good for you & your sister to attend one. You already have a good right hook. We just need to work on the vocals."
...
I couldn't help it and laughed. So far, this book has been making me laugh. Unfortunately it has toooo many characters (the whole village community) and who owns which shop and who has powers and who don't, and what kind of powers (healers, etc...) I'm having to write down notes on all the characters. This is one time that I wished the book was in the kindle. I can use the orange highlights for names, blue highlights for businesses, and yellow for short notes. All well... time to sleep.

Book that has happened to me too many characters to keep track of I have to go back pages to find out who is who-have you read Mave Bincheys books I think you would enjoy them- unfortunately she died last year but did write a lot of them and some people are carried over to other books - I really enjoy her books-we had a great book club at our senior center before our dumb Director ruined it by putting her friend in charge.

Hi Austin, no I have never read Maeve's books. Her covers are pretty but just from reading the back cover of the books, I just find myself interested in it. When I was a teenager, I loved to read teen mysteries and Harlequin romances. When I was going to college, I was still into Harlequins, other romance novels, Sci-fi (space/aliens) and westerns. As I got older, I turned to True crime stories, novels and Fantasies (magic and swords.) Now, I'm into shapechangers, vamps, Humorous mysteries and humorous romances. I try to stay away from romance books or any kinds of books that remind me that I never left home, married, etc... Those happy-ever-after romances and novels just depress me. So, I avoid those. Maeve is one of those authors. {shrug}

I was watching the TV special of Toy Story Terror ..something. It's a kids show for the Halloween theme - scary. {{chuckling}} Just as I scream aloud with the original Scooby Doo cartoons, I was screaming in this show. I really cannot watch any kind of 'scary' shows - whether cartoon, animated, etc... Well, at least it got my heart beating fast (without even having to exert myself physically.)

Austin, don't you hate it when someone is hired because they know someone and not because they know what their doing?

Dad died last night. I'm so grateful to have been by his side holding his hand, caressing his head, telling him to go where he needed to go, to be with my mom and three brothers, and all those he had loved, and that everything is good, and to not be afraid. I told him I would be alright. I thanked him for being my dad, and taking such good care of me and my brothers and sisters, and for always being there for us. I cared for my dad alone for 5 years. He was in his 96th year of life. He'll be so missed.

I think I am making some progress with my parents [in their 90's].... for the past couple of years I've been telling my Dad that I have panic attacks when I drive, but it seemed to go in one ear and out the other.... and part of that is my fault because I kept on driving pushing through my panic attacks.... but I had a major one a couple of weeks ago driving alone.... that was it, time out, got to really limit my driving now. I should have done this a year ago :P

Big problem now is that my parents primary doctor is now too far away for me to drive. I suggested they use one of the doctors at the urgent care facility that is 2 miles from their house, and easy drive for me... the doctor there takes regular patients, not just emergencies.

Dad was hesitant because of all the paper work with the current doctor. Told him current doctor and possible new doctor are under the same umbrella thus everything is on their network computer. Mom liked the idea, there is one doctor there she liked.... whew. Keeping my fingers crossed this works out. I hope the doctor is taking new regular patients. I will find out tomorrow when I take my parents over there for their flu shots :)

Sole, I'm so sorry about your father. You were a wonderful, loving daughter to him. I'm positive that he knew this towards the end. You did Good. {{Hugs}}

Freqflyer, I also hope that your dad decides to choose the doctor closer to home. Hopefully your mom is subtly aiming him to choose closer to home.

Score One for me :) Yes, my parents will change doctors to the doctor who is just down the street and an easy drive for me.... if fact, if they have a 2 pm appointment we could even walk there if I get my parents started by noon :P

My parents got their flu shot today, and the doctor that my Mom likes and had seen in the past reminds me of Hugh Grant [I wouldn't mind getting sick].

Since this doctor office is under the same group as my parents current doctor, all the paperwork is already networked into the computer. All I need to do is tell the new doctor's office my parents want to come to this practice, set up an appointment for a check-up, and they can get the ball rolling.

What a relief... whew.... as my parents go to the doctor on a regular routine basis every 3-4 months just mini-check ups because of their age [mid 90's] and how I hate that drive on the 6 lane highway... yikes.... there were times I could barely get my parents to their appointment and then dreaded how was I going to get them back home I was in such a panic.

FF good or you I have trouble driving on parkways with many lanes and just let those who depend on me that is what it is and they have to find a back less stressful way to get there and back if I am to drive-I am at the point where I speak up and not suffer in silence any more-it works for me all my life I stuffed my own feelings for others no more-our elders can learn to give in at times.

195Austin, how I wished I had spoken up years ago. If I had, my stress level would probably been cut in half.

Yes, give me the back roads, I find the slow 25 mph, lot of Stop signs, routes are the easiest for me. And lots of snow a good distraction, maybe because everyone is going 10 mph :)

Haven't posted for a while. Dad doing well at AL stopped in for a visit today as hubby and I did some hiking at a state park and I took many videos and photos to show him. I have another uncle and aunt who want to come and visit and another who called me to see how Dad is doing. Others have sent cards which is nice. Eyes still healing from surgery one more week of eye drops. Have appt in December to see if docs will do a LASIK "enhancement" to get closer to 20/20 vision or else I am getting a weak prescription to use mainly for driving.
Researching switching Medicare supplemental plans for dad as I am really paying a lot monthly for benefits he isn't using.
Have some recommendations from relatives and friends on what I should switch him too. Dad does have 6 month doc visit Monday so may pick her brain too.
