I totally agree.

I do have to remind myself that when someone comes on the group that it is all new to them. They are looking to touch base with other caregivers and get some support. So I do think it is important for us to stay welcoming. I don't like it when a newbie gets jumped on by some of our rougher people.

There are rarely any new questions posted here. There are some questions I've answered so many times with the same experiences each time that I don't answer them anymore. I've been on the group a long time now. Fortunately, there are newer, fresher people who answer. Because they're not tired and jaded like me, their answers are usually a lot better than mine would have been.

Good I'm not the only one... If I wrote what I really want to say I'd get kicked of AC..LOL

The few times for those who asked the same questions as those previously, I have copied and pasted the links of previous answers. I even directed them to use the search engine if they need more answers. Then I'd read others who have answered patiently and I feel bad for doing the shortcut. I just don't know how they can patiently answer these same questions over and over. I, too, skip these questions.

I pass them over, too. I don't mind doing that, because there are other people who answer the question. I don't feel like I need to. I also skip over the Medicaid questions because anything I would say would be hearsay. I am glad Igloo is here to answer the Medicaid questions. What a wealth of knowledge she has. I am glad she is willing to share it with the people who ask.

I feel bad but I just pass over the "can I get paid to care for my mother questions".. If they used the search site they would find many answers...

I need a generic response..

How am I? Tired. Stressed from work. Stress about a family of 4 whom I'm second guessing because the d*rn father would not answer the d*rn cell phone! I left work late, researching, calling the airline, etc... and then I tried to call him. Tickets are non-refundable. I ended up going back to the office, and Canceled the sale. I'm off tomorrow but I need to go back to work and try to reach he-who-doesn't-answer-his-cell-phone.

I sooooo hope that their reservation is still good tomorrow when I get in. Or I'm in deep trouble!!! Ugh! {{{{ muttering }}}} I

Book Dad is sticking the earpiece from his glasses into his ear because the ear itches like crazy and there is no way he can get his finger in there to scratch. He needs some eardrops to deal with the itch. Ask the RN for something on the next visit. It really is an unbearable itch. Make sure he dies not have anything long and thin within reach, he could pierce his eardrum.

Oh, he's still coughing a bit, but better with the meds. Pulmonologist on Monday; this is the guy who solved the problem last time, so I have high hopes. Just discovered that one of our cats pooped and peed on the bathmat ( I woke up smelling cat pee, but couldn't figure out the source) Is it possible that DH showered this AM without noticing that? I just sent him an email at work to ask. Inquiring minds want to know! Oh, and the last exterminator visit (I hope) for the bedbugs is tonight!

I completely forgot to pay a credit card bill. It used to be on island but they closed up. So now I have to send payment to the states. I don't do online payments because I don't trust paying out of my bank account to pay a bill online. I have no problem paying online with my credit card (I can always dispute any unauthorized charges) but.. once my savings is wiped out, who's going to cover it? I just mailed it off, and it's due today.

Dad is now doing a new thing - sticking his eyeglass frame earpiece (that goes around the ears) into his ear.

Gerd can certainly cause a cough, which is why he's taking Omeprazole. I'm looking forward to what the pulmonologist has to say on Monday!

I was looking at the symptom overview of GERD and one of them is dysphagia...which is the feeling of something stuck in the esophagas...which might cause them to cough maybe?

Babalou, my mom has had Gerd for what seems like forever. She was on Nexium for 20 years now priloac since ins no longer pays for nexium. Anyway she gets these coughs that last for weeks. We've never been able to pin point the cause but i know they are related to Gerd. She now has berrets disease which is precancer of esophagus so she needs to make sure to take med to keep the Gerd in check. Also people with this need to sleep with head raised, very important because if they reflux during the night the acid can go into lungs and cause damage. Raise head of bed or put blocks under bed posts so there is a downward slope. This helps alot. I not have the same problem...joy. Hope he feels better soon.

I'm thinking it's GERD related as it started up after he ran out of omeprazole. But got to check the lungs because he's had issues with breathing since his aneurysm surgery which resulted in part of his diaphragm being paralyzed. Need to find out if that's become a problem again.

Babalou, I hope it is something simple to treat. I know he's tired of coughing. I read about how GERD could cause lung problems the other day. I had never thought of that before, but it makes sense.

Non smoker and yes, the chest xray was negative. He'll be going to the pulmonologist...that was recommended to him by our pcp when he first saw him on 12/30, but DH decided to ignore that. I just sent an email to pulmonologist to set up an appointment. Thanks for all the support, guys!

Babalou,
Veronica has made suggestions, and Stacey also has a good idea.
With taking that much medicine prescribed by the doctor, if there is no improvement, go back, or get a second opinion especially about the interaction between the meds, specifically the heavy cough suppressant, gerd meds, and prednisone. Guessing he had a chest x-ray and does not smoke?
Hoping there is some improvement soon!

It was non stop, non productive. Yes, probiotics, soup. Now back on omeprazole, strong cough surppressant, and nasal spral. I think it's GERD, aince it came back after he stopped the omeprazole.

How am I today. Proud. Proud that I got the past number of years have gotten the opportunity to know my mom. The truth is my mom left herv first four children with her mom and dad when she divorced my bipolosr father. Maybe rest in peace. For many years I either had resentment for my mom or thought I was abandoned. What was a woman supposed to do back in the 50s with a 2 4 6 and 8!yesr old. What she did. Cleave us in a stable home with the best role models ever. I promised my grandfather on his dying bed I would take care of her she the time came. Now it's past six yeSrs and what a wonderful woman she is for making that sacfifice and hanging over her children while her heart broke. I am so lucky I get this opportunity. Sleep or no sleep. This is a kind lost soul but I have been found. My mom did the absolute best for her children. Yes she made mistakes in her two other marriages of which she paid a heavy price but I have two more brothers from it. V this woman doesn't have a bad bone in her body. Never has. Now she has dementia and I love her so much. I wish she had a joyous life but she didn't. I will never abandon you mom. This is where I belong v

Pamx, maybe he has cold weather related Asthma/Bronchitis! When I worked in Asthma and Allergy research, there were quite a few affected, primarily from the cold in winter, and then often followed by allergies in the spring, just a thought!
