Golden, I've been though it all, 😂 my BP son is now diagnosed with OCD not BP, I'm not sure , maybe he was diagnosed BP because of his age and then when he got older and in control of his emotions , it was better diagnosed. My second has toretetts, my 3rd is mildly autistic, number 4 mostly his fathers golden child. Then me with dyslexia, all nerodivergent issues, except my youngest.

Ah, Daisy. There is a difference between BPD and BP. BPD is a personality disorder which often also has narcissism and BP is characterized by mood swings. Not the same at all though they may show some similar symptoms. Either way relationships with them are difficult for sure. Glad your son is getting properly diagnosed. Maybe he can be helped.

Starting to do a bit of downsizing here. Mostly selecting things that I am not using here to be trashed or donated - like extra bedding, a few bits of furniture, clothing..Time to clean out the fridge and freezers too. If it hasn't been used since i came here, I think it needs to go! 😊

On my mind this morning. One of our floor residents came to the door this morning looking for R. Her husband passed on Monday. R has helped them. He was relatively young - early 60s I would say. He has been ill with asbestosis for some years and very ill recently. He didn't want a funeral so she is having a gathering of friends and family here later on. She said she is so glad they took the trip to Mexico last year as she has some good photos and memories.

It's good to be reminded that we need to do the things we want to do and not put them off. Nobody knows how much time they have left.

I just found out this morning that our retired Pastor has aggressive prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones. He's in his 70s with Parkinsons and mild/mod dementia. He only wants the hormone treatment, no chemo or radiation. There was a post from Fawnby recently that was on this topic. I was hoping to read more people's experiences with their LO and prostate/bone cancer/dementia and pass it on to his wife but that thread is now closed. Please PM me with your journey if you are willing to share insights from your experience with this. Thanks!

I just got a text from my phone provider that they are shutting down their 3g network in July and even though Samsung says my phone is 4g capable supposedly it is not compatible with their new network. Say what? First they discontinued their pay as you go service and I had to change to one of their satellite companies, now this? And they're only letting me know a month in advance? 🤬

Cwillie, we changed our service to Mint Mobile several years ago and can not be happier. We did need to get new phones but, ours were like 8 years old, so no hard feelings. They are a fraction of the cost and we have never had coverage issues.

Worth checking out if you can get an off brand service.

I had a new phone on my list of things to get in the near future but I was hoping to squeak by just a little bit longer. It's the total lack of advance notice that pi$$es me off, it was exactly the same thing last time with a "as you may be aware"... blah blah blah. No, I didn't already know, and one month's notice is completely insufficient.
I already paid for a full year phone plan and had to buy a new SIM card, not to mention they wouldn't honour the credit I had in my account, it feels like they are constantly screwing us over.

I agree, 1 month is not sufficient notice and not transferring the credit is theft.

Hopefully your next provider doesn't play these types of games.

Can I whine here a little bit? I've got no one in real life to vent to.
It's just the frustration of getting a new phone, I'm getting upset over all the tech stuff... how will I ever navigate the future? All the people who come here to b***h about their brain dead mothers and fathers who can't figure it out - that's going to be me, in a lot of ways that already is me. Even though I can eventually figure out a lot of it it makes me so stressed out, I hate this😖

Cwillie, I so understand, what I do is put my phone make and model on YouTube, they really do explain it better. Of course you need a working laptop something you can YouTube.

I like it because you can keep rewinding and watch it again.

I absolutely love my Lively Smartphone3 (understand they have number 4 if ordered now). It's setup was so easy and when I came to a problem I simply called them and they walked me through. They are so patient. The customer service is absolutely stellar. I think I wouldn't be up to a cellphone at all if it wasn't for Lively.
New computers, new anything these days, even a TV is a nightmare for us, really. I think I would be down to a tablet and podcasts if I were alone. It takes two heads to figure out anything for us today.

cwillie, if you haven't already tried, go into YouTube and search for a tutorial on how to set up and navigate your new phone. I'm a visual learner so I do this all the time on all sorts of devices and appliances. "how to set up"+[ your phone model ]+[ version of your operating system ]

My tech guru lives with me!
When I ordered an unlocked phone from Amazon, the Samsung did not work for me. Returned it, exchanged for a refurbished I-Phone (I-Phone is more intuitive, it is said).

I signed up for BOOST Mobile, $25 per year for life. Automatically deducted from checking, no contract, I can cancel anytime.

It was the tech guru(s) specialist (in the U.S.) that walked both of us through setting up my account, etc. Even tech dH could not do it, so do not feel bad or
doubt your abilities.

In the meantime, I had panicked and filed a CPUC complaint; and then cancelled my account, lol. An act of frustration on my part.

Boost Mobile worked this out for me, and after speaking with their tech guru in the U.S. (no accent, I could understand them); this issue was resolved.

I am still learning how to use the phone, but need assistance daily from dH.
Now, I just wait, turn the phone off until he might become available. All I ever need to do, really, is to make a phone call. But now, texting has become more fun.

Part of my problem is aging, so I am not going to blame anyone (unless they are
w r o n g !)

I still plan to get the help of an outside tech guru to reset my phone to "simpler"
functions. It will all be okay, sometime in the future, I think.

cwillie, you deserve to pat your own back for certain. N. is so much more patient than I am, and he just says "you have to keep playing with it". I suffer from thinking I will mess something up permanently or never get anywhere no matter how much time I spend "playing with it".
Even N. is starting to fail under the onslaught of all that's new.
Quite honestly it is no wonder the elderly as sitting ducks for scams. It is all so hard we just want someone to do it for us.

I'm the techie here but not interested in android phones, R's in particular. He. who has more phone troubles than anyone I have ever met, is learning about his phone (Samsung). I figure he needs to. He's had to set up many new ones. The guy he currently buys from helps with anything and everything. He's great. We have a back up iPhone that we can switch for him to use or me as needed.

Time for me to get an upgrade. Mine's old but does everything I need it too. However, I dropped it and it sat in water for about 1/2 hour which didn't do it any good. It's still working but limping a bit. I found out the "bury it in rice" is not considered a good thing any more. Turn it off and let it dry gently. A fan can help.

As far as phones or computers go, I am with the keep playing with it group. Eventually things seems to work out.

Finally got a cheque in the mail so I used the phone app to deposit it. I've been wanting to do that for a while lol. Yay!!!
