After 10 years, I relinquished my role of primary caregiver for my 94-year old mother when she moved into a LTC home closer to my sister.
Since then, I have been working hard to get my life back.
There is a resource: The Anxiety And Worry Workbook (David A. Clark and Aaron T. Beck) that has been helpful. I read/do exercises in it every day.
The caregiving marathon left me depleted and with a narrow fear-based world view. I am focusing on cultivating an inner sense of expansion these days. I wish that I could say that this is easy work: it isn’t. I know that I have to do it, however, as the quality of my life depends on it.
I hope that the workbook helps someone else here.

AlvaDeer, thank you for your kind words. ‘Shrink wrap’ is about right. This changed me—but I need to get my life back.

Danielle, I so admire your determination, and in your woes, your ability to reach out and share with/for others. I know what can happen in life to us with our world shrinkwrapping round us in a smothering way. I will say that going through cancer and its treatments has sort of the same effect; one of just causing your entire world view to shrink along with everything else, and you are so right in that everything becomes more "fear based".
Thanks for sharing this book with us. I am looking in on it!
