Find Care & Housing
Sharyn, Your home is where your Iris are being delivered, please don't panic!
I just hated it when my Mother once said to me: "Bloom where you are planted".
Maybe it applies this time. I know you are never leaving little E, your grandson.

You will be okay! Deep breaths.

Anthem is not available here. We applied for Rengence. Cobra is too expensive. I have no preexisting conditions and with ACA you can't be turned down due to preexisting conditions. I am talking out of anger and pain. I will see if I can get in to a dentist today and have the tooth pulled. I can't afford the expense of a crown or root canal right now. I may have to wait to have it pulled if there is infection but I can't take the pain anymore. I have to see a dentist today.

Toothaches are the suck Sharyn. I am so sorry you are in pain.

Sharyn I hope you get into the dentist today. After the first of the year I'm getting dental implants. I have really soft teeth and grew up in an area with bad water. I dread the process but better than dentures or root canals. PJ got them last year. He had stress fractures from when played football and didn't wear a mouth guard when he lifted weights. He said it wasn't to bad a process. So I have that to look forward to. Good luck today.

Upset, my hubs wants implants too. This is the first toothache I have had since a child. I have a couple crowns but never a root canal. This tooth can be saved but we don't have the extra money now with just having a major move. I am taking an antibiotic and pain meds and will have it pulled next week. The dentist wanted me to think about my options for a few days because with pulling the tooth, the teeth next to it will move over and since the root is in the sinus, it will leave a temporary hole and I may shoot water out my nose, lol!! Of course if a tooth can be saved, they prefer to save it.

Send, I will get it pulled next week. This morning the pain was so intense ( dentist said that is normal) I didn't know if I made sense. Yesterday it felt better because I used those dental floss sticks with the bristles between my teeth. What happened was it broke open the access causing some drainage which released some of the pressure. Oh boy, did it hurt this morning!!! I have norco to take later since the pain is more intense at night and morning.

Kelsey, thank you and yes it does suck.

Thank you everyone, time for a nap, been up since 3:30 am.

Sharyn,
I am familiar with the pain, it took only once. I am the proud owner of a missing tooth, on the bottom, far enough back that it doesn't show.
I know you will make the right decision. I am not trying to convince you either way.
But just to re-assure you......
My friend had her tooth pulled after an endodontist tried to cure the abscess taking months of painful treatment. She has the money to do whatever she wants.
So it is not just a financial issue.

And I am thinking....our teeth can really mess with our sinuses....is this the cure for sinus issues, maybe?
Good luck.

Send, it is a back tooth so not worried it will show. New technique for sinus drainage?

I don't know, but there should not be an opening from the tooth to your sinus cavity.
Does that even make sense anatomically?
If you eat cayenne, is that going into a hole, into your sinus?

Maybe I don't get it, but it's okay.

The place on my gums where the tooth was tickled for awhile....I really liked it!
My teeth were too tight anyway.

Hubs had two fillings, weeks apart. Both times he got an immediate sinus infection, within 1/2 hour, and he was sneezing! Returning to the dentist, he had never heard of this, gave antibiotics. Downplayed, big time.

You think he had a reaction to something that caused the infection? The dentist said it is temporary and heals but in some cases they have to do a skin graft to cover it. He just wants to be completely honest so I know these things can happen.

Yeah, those surgical warnings can be scary.

My hubs...autism....mercury fillings....sneezing, sinus issues immediately. We could not afford the other fillings.

Oh, mercury fillings. I didn't know they still used them.

Stacey, thinking of you and family today. You and your husband were a great care exam for your fil!! You provided a home for him during his last years. I hope where ever you chose to vacation, you both relax and enjoy knowing you gave so much!!

Before I had sinus surgery I had constant tooth pain on my upper teeth. I would go to the dentist and no cavities. Once I had the sinus surgery the pain went away.

Oh yeah Upset, whenever I get a sinus infection, my front teeth hurt and are sensitive to cold.

Upsetsister...my dH just checked into getting implants in 2 of his teeth. The estimate was $2000.00 for each implant and $800.00 for sedation without insurance. It's expensive!

Report

Lucky, I know it's expensive. But the new 4 on 1 technology makes it more reasonable and you can have them all done in one day. My fiancé dental insurance will pay 80%. So that makes it more feasible. I've been saving for a couple of years. I'm not looking forward to the whole process. They say you have a painful week and then a very restrictive diet for about 39 days.

Sharyn, Sinus surgery is painful. But in addition to the sinus infections and tooth pain, I had horrible headaches. So it was worth it for me.

Upset, the surgery you had was the more extensive procedure? My mom had the newer surgery where they use a balloon.

So sorry for anyone suffering with sinus and tooth problems-
the most miserable I've ever been was recovering from extensive gum grafts - needed I was told from having teeth pulled as a kid and wearing braces

The lack of oral care in facilities (think Cwillie's mom) just irritates me even more because of what I've been through

Mom has suffered greatly from nerve damage done by a dentist long ago trying to pull a tooth

I guess I better go brush and floss now

Want to revisit the benefits of a water pic to toughen up my gums, get teeth cleaned down into the grooves.
Anybody using that still?
(3)
Report

Send, I just threw away one when we were doing more moving today. Should I go and dig it out of the garbage perhaps?

I've had some of the most horrible pain in my life due to teeth and sinus infections and my poor Mom had half the teeth on one side of her mouth pulled because of jaw infections. Turned out it had nothing to do with her teeth. She was getting jaw infections due to taking Fosamax for Osteoporosis.

I like water pic still although my periodontist is mixed on it as it can cause particles to go below the gum line

I tried to get mom to use a portable one a few months ago but she freaked out with it

I agree with water pics I think they are great along with the sonic tooth brush and flossing. For the elderly with dementia it is very hard to get them to follow through. Unfortunately care facilities do not do oral care. My mom actually went to the facility my dad was in and personally flossed and brushed his teeth before bedtime.

Midget woke me up at 2am for a potty run and my tooth is hurting so I'm waiting for the norco to kick in. It hurts worse when getting up after laying down for a period of time.

Good night everyone!

Ms Madge, yes I too have had grafts for receding gums due to periodontal issues and was told it is from having had braces. I was told the movement of teeth from braces causes pockets around the gums and sets you up for gingivitis.

Sharyn, I worked for an ENT who did the Balloon surgery, but I had the more complicated. It was terrible at the time, but I've had no problems since I had it done in 2003. Way better than constant sinus infections.

Upset, I'm glad it has helped you. Chronic sinus infections are very troublesome not to mention time lost off work. I don't get sinus infections like I use to thank goodness. Once a year is enough.

Stacey - May your FIL rest in peace. He was blessed with the best care imaginable during his end time. As for a vacation place, personally I love the Smoky Mountains, especially this time of year. It is beautiful and, for me, a spiritual place.

Chronic sinus infections are the pits. I had my first sinus infection when I was 7 and have had many since.  So glad surgeries have helped others. Mine are due to allergies, so as long as I stay on antihistamines, and away from things I am allergic to I am OK these days,

I have three implants. Two involve a bridge. It is a bit of a procedure, but I have had so much dental work that I didn't find it that bad. Mine healed well and quickly.

upset - go for it! October is coming fast! So glad your sinuses are better since the procedure.

sharyn - hope you are feeling better. Sometimes an extraction is the most practical.

stacey - thinking of you and all you have been through. Hope all is going well and you get some rest soon.

It has been busy here again. R left a few hours ago and I am collapsed on the sofa. The fence is all but done. He needs another tool which he didn't have here, to finish two small places. It looks great! He is a very talented carpenter. What a relief!!! We got materials for some other jobs around the house. The lawn is good, evergreens watered for the winter, and we brought the tomatoes in and have one lovely orange one which should be ready to pick soon. The rest are still green but growing.

My eye is doing well and I can see better. I think I will ask about laser surgery for the astigmatism to be done well after I have healed from the cataract surgery. Thought, before the cataracts I saw pretty well with my glasses and I don't mind wearing glasses. We will see.

I sent off to the insurance co what I hope is the last email. It has to be close anyway.

Had a bit of a "misfortune" which I will relate in a separate post. It seems there is always something to deal with.

Hope everyone is enjoying a nice fall weekend.

I had something really gross happen to me so if you do not like "gross" stop reading here!

Yesterday morning I took the last mouthful from a bottle of brown fizzy stuff (can't mention the name as it is under investigation) and felt something in my mouth. I spit it out into the kitchen sink and it was two cut off ends of the fingers of a latex glove and they had grainy yellow orange stuff in them, some of which I had swallowed.

I suspect the stuff was blood altered by being in such an acid environment. Soda is quite acid.

I don't think I am in any physical danger from what I swallowed, as whatever it is has been sitting in acid, but I was grossed out and nauseated much of the day and coughing in the morning as the grainy stuff stuck in my throat.

I took photos of glove tips etc and put them back in the bottle which still had some yellow stuff in it. We contacted the company responsible who told me this could not happen as there is no human contact during production. I was so mad I had to give the phone to R. They want us to send them the bottle etc. to test it. We also contacted the local health inspector who said it was out of her jurisdiction and gave me the number of the Canada Food Inspection Agency in E'ton. R will take the bottle there next week as we want it tested independent of the company's testing, I filled out an online form for the CFIA ad got a reply that they had received it.

And now we wait.

I really didn't need this!
